  • Shots from Buffalo, Pembroke, Hamburg, Orchard Park and other areas around the Buffalo metro hit hard by record breaking #snow. The #snowstorm is over but the clean up will take weeks. This is raw video from ground, drone and rolling shots we experienced along the way after the storm showing the massive snow totals. The truck fire was just random on I-90 just after the interstate reopened. Please do not forget to subscribe for more weather, professionally shot without screaming or hype. Thanks you all!

I haven't seen snow like that since I was a kid -- this is what we had EVERY winter, in a semi-rural area on the South Shore of Montreal. Totally great for kids to play & sled & toboggan in, & use mini skiis, & now I guess great for snowboarding too (on the drifts blown up around houses & in back yards or parks maybe?). Also great to make snowballs with (it's a "wet" snow") & snowmen/women, & for "making angels." Plus, it's not like snowfall in the city, which turns into yucky dirty slush fairly quickly, & is also just scraped off of everything, pretty much. The snow in this video will stay awhile, & stay white & clean-looking, & ofc is just perfect for the Christmas holidays, with coloured lights on houses, wreaths on doors, etc etc!!!

The last time I experienced something similar was in December 2004 in Vitebsk, Belarus. The snowfall was so heavy back then that you could hardly see the street from the 7th floor. However, there was no traffic chaos, because when the first flakes fell, the clearing vehicles were already on their way. About 1 meter of fresh snow fell during the night and the next morning even the footpaths were almost all cleared and passable.

I worked at Mica Creek [Hydro Station & Power Distribution Center]/near the Athabasca Glacier Ice Fields. In 4 nights we went from about 1 foot off snow, to 10+ feet, afterwards we had a low of -48°C with the windchill factor.
We literally had to dug our way out of the portables (housing). We could hear & see snowmobiles travelling on the icey crust on the top. That year we had a total height of 12+ feet (all within 12 days).
I hope that You & Your Family are doing great, staying safe, healthy & enjoying life.
Cheers & Respect from Vancouver BC🇨🇦🇺🇦

It was not meant like that. Here in Germany, for example, with temperatures around or below freezing, you can count on public private local transport having its problems and difficulties with these temperatures. The Berliner then only says that suddenly and unexpectedly it is winter and snow is also falling. If you then live on a street with classification 3B, i.e. not an important main street but only an insignificant side street, these are not cleared and only the footpaths and crossings are cleared. Every homeowner and property manager must ensure that the paths are free of snow and ice. In some areas there is no winter service at all, you enter these paths and areas at your own risk. What surprised me so positively in Belarus was that the winter service, state and local, was so on the ball.

@@AmandaFromWisconsin probably is. What isn’t realized is that nearly everyone in the Buffalo region has a car and no matter how many times you tell them not to drive around, there is always someone in a Toyota Corolla with bald tires that wants to go out and explore. When it inevitably gets stuck it blocks all ability for a plow to do its basic job of clearing streets and the false narrative that Buffalo can’t handle the snow gets spread. Also 6ft. of snow does not occur yearly here, just for those that see us as a constant frozen tundra.

Some great shots there. What gets me with this is how localized it can be. We were at Niagara Falls one day when Buffalo got over three feet of snow. We didn't get any. We were in a hotel in Batavia NY the previous night and got out around 7:30am to head to the falls. We saw a little snow when we turned off I90 but it soon stopped. We spent a few hours on the US side then crossed to Canada for the rest of the day and stayed in a hotel overlooking the falls. In the morning we could see there was some snow down to the south, but very little sign of it where we were. Heading north through Toronto to Ottawa we didn't get any more. Lake effect snow is just freaky. At least it doesn't happen all winter.

( BTW: it’s just winter time in Buffalo 🥶)
Funny fact about living in Buffalo.
In winter, I had to keep an ice scraper next to me on the front seat. Why?
Because the inside of the windshield would freeze up, from my breath and make seeing impossible.
How many others from this area do this?
I’ve had my “turn signal” arm break off
in my hand from the cold. I’d drive to school and the engine temp didn’t move off cold.

People with mild hypothermia usually recover with no lasting damage. However, people with moderate-to-severe hypothermia can face serious complications and even death. Children are more likely to recover from severe hypothermia than adults. The death rate for hypothermia in older people is about 50%.

I live north of Lake Superior. Our township fire hydrants have 7' red and white markers bolted to them for locating in emergencies, snow removal avoidance and measuring snow depths. Surprised I didn't see a single one in the footage.

I hope someone sets up a time laps of the melt that will happen this week. By next weekend a lot of this snow will have melted.
The blanket of snow is impressive and can be destructive, but I’ve always said I’ll take a blizzard any day over a hurricane, earthquakes, volcano eruption ect. Just give it time all that snow will melt away and all will be back to normal.

Melt?! This won't melt until May of 2023. They'll get more snow next week and it piles up until late spring. If you've never spent time there, you need to see it. Just indescribable.

@@suzyjewel6052 Wrong Bozo, temps in the upper 40's from wed. thru the next 10 days will melt almost ALL OF THIS by Saturday. It was a minor, temporary inconvenience. The roads are already clear, and life is back to normal. Its not like Hurricane Ian, that practically wiped Fort Myers off the face of the Earth and flooded 20% of the state, and will take a decade to recover, ITS A SNOWSTORM for goodness sake. The "Storm of the Century" hype, that the media commits AT EVERY storm, is ridiculous. We just sat inside drinking cocoa till the roads were cleared and went back about our lives.
