as much as i love indie and shoegaze, that description is pretty accurate ngl, especially with shoegaze there so many mbv and slowdive clones out there it sometimes gets so annoying to find some actually decent shoegaze
Shoegaze died in the 90s because bands were trying to replicate bands that were good because they were trying new things. The revival is having the same effect, obviously
i think the original soft focus patch was: comp -> eq -> reverb -> dual delay -> modulation and all this through a stereo output. This pedal is missing the delay, its more like a shimmer reverb tuned to sound like soft focus, and its sounds really good ! just put one or five delay pedals in the chain and your're good to go slowdiving
I like this pedal but I can't help but feel like it sounds too different from the original FX500 patch. Maybe I'll have to get the original one? Or am I missing something? It sounds too...clean to me I guess? BTW i love your style, you got a new sub ;)
Welcome to the channel and thanks for the sub! This Catalinbread version of the Yamaha patch does have some slight differences in the sound as it only replicates the reverb. The FX500 had a chain of FX it processed to create the Soft Focus patch, including delay and EQ. I think that's why the Catalinbread pedal sounds "cleaner." I wouldn't be surprised Catalinbread comes out with a "Deluxe" version in the future that replicates the entire Soft Focus FX chain on the FX500.
I bought this pedal a few months ago and all I can say is, I really like it! I don't consider myself a musician but I use this pedal on my channel in some of my videos. I think it sounds beautiful. I used it on the song TROUBLE by Coldplay for example.

I think you could easily make up shoegaze sounds with anything as long as it has lots of reverb

@@diogoazevedo4976what does that even mean

Indeed! I plan to chain this with a delay in a future video, and perhaps throw in a fuzz with that too.

That's great! It does a lot of cool sounds for sure, glad you found some use to it
