Thanks for this. I've watched several YT vids that say the CSF is shoegaze in a box, but your video is the only one that plays shoegaze. You obviously understand this pedal, and I hope you do another video in more depth on playing shoegaze with this pedal, or just shoegaze in general. A masterclass if will. You have a lot to share here with gazers. We struggle so much with stacking pedals, and not enough time on how to play gaze.
thanks frank! glad you enjoyed it! i listened to MBV, ride, slowdive and the like when they came around the first time, but i haven't listened to much since. i had a blast doing this video though! i went back and listened through loveless and souvlaki for some inspiration. such cool stuff!
You really nailed the sound of the genre in your mix and the dirty section. The demo's sound like something that came straight off of a Whirr album. Probably the best demo of this pedal. Love it.
This sounds great, I had the realizer by keeley effects and I currently have a loomer. Hands down the soft focus is what I liked most about the features of those pedals and I can here it here too. Same patch. Good stuff and accessible because keeley only does those pedals in batches. Really heard some Pink Floyd in the beginning music example. Really nice. Great work
Actually in regard to the closing statements, there was a Yamaha FX500 for sale cheap recently at my local MGR. But the ease of use, ability to tweak, and better audio (the FX500 supposedly has an inferior incoming stage and degrades the dry signal audio) make a modern pedal that gets that sound in a box really hard to pass up. The only thing I'd want in some cases is a pedal version with stereo outs.
Great sound of course...tho I just can't stand pedals where the power jack is NOT at the top side of the pedal, for whatever reason it's gotta be low down on the side of the pedal 😆..all pedals in the future please have power jacks on the top side! 👍
@@therewasascene the Aqueduct vibrato by Earthquaker Devices is a sweet pedal as well if you don't have a vibrato (whammy) on your guitar. ruclips.net/video/Wro0A9Nbm3o/видео.html
I like 1981 DRV & need to check it out. I like using an EQD Hizumitas or EHX green russian JHSmod for fuzz & Boss Blues Driver for overdrive. EQD Hizzy is also modded big muff... Which the excellent ProCo Rat is also. Then you get Catalinbread KatzenKong now the Blood Donor, EHX Flatiron & EQD iron horse which are then their take on Rats. Cross contamination or fertilization depending on one's world view? 😂 Its always depend on rig. Like i dig the blues driver w/Roland JC & a Strat/Tele.
This caught my attention. My favorite pedal is the Talisman plate reverb, but it has a specific purpose. I can hear similar qualities in this pedal, but more modern, flexible, etc.
Haaaa! The Fx 500 was my first effect ever back then, this half rack sized thing, i remeber the metal distortion, was it No 9 ? would love to mess around with it now!
i use a combination of a bunch of things, loops, samples, and almost always native instruments. i program the basics of the beats and then i've purchased MIDI fills and movements that make it seem more "real", but at the end of the day it's all how you mix it.
Thank god a demoer who knows what this pedal is for. Straight blues lick demos on this pedal is both hilarious and useless.
Useless for everything but transparent overdrives.
I have seen 3 clips so far and this is by far the best one that hits the Shoegaze genre 👍
thanks, man!
@@DemosInTheDarkjust annoying its not a stereo pedal

Soft Focus = Slowdive’s Secret Sauce
I wish they had pushed the Symph/Mod function to more of an extreme. We can always dial it back for subtle, but it's cool to get weird sometimes.

I'm hearing Cocteau Twins Victorialand... unbelievably fantastic! Thank you very very much! This made my day! Excellent demo, sir...
that's a great record. i've been listening to heaven or las vegas a bit lately!
There’s no high octave in the OG patch. It’s a trick of the ear. It’s all EQ and the Symphonic’s modulation
This doesn't sound anything like the soft focus patch.
Tbh its still worth the money, its like a synth, reverb, octave and overdrive, pity it aint stereo is my gripe to buy it

super reasonably priced too!
@@DemosInTheDark considering how much the keeley loomer and realizer(100 unit batches) cost new and on resale market this pedal is a steal
I own a loomer, bought a soft focus because I also adore the focus setting, excited to stack them and use the reverse with this as well
@@gloryxkid oh that’s gonna be some super soft focus fun 🙌

you’re right. i actually picked one up on reverb for about $150 after i made the video. it definitely sucks to use, so that part was right. 😂
Very nice indeed. Add an expression pedal & it's a winner. Meanwhile, run it from an ABY with a volume pedal.

i hate when the power and in/out are too close 😅
& i get extra cranky when "in" is not labeled 🤬
makes it a pita for 2 L cables
Honestly, I had to go back and watch this again because this was so awesome! Thanks again! Wow!!!... mind blown...
the 1981 DRV and it's note clarity is ace for the gaze
yeah, who knew!? i was initially using muffs and then tried the DRV and thought it sounded great!
I has rat. I want this. :) With the space bender I’d be set for gazin’

i love the talisman also, had it for many years still the best for that sound.
talisman is great, especially with a heavy amp like a marshall that eats reverbs!
@@DemosInTheDark I routinely run two Marshall’s and there’s nothing like hot amps and reverb that goes KARAANNGG !
Wonderful sounding Pedal. The history of the Pedal's origin was quite interesting. Thanks
Is the octave/symph, and mod/chorus, pre, or post reverb?
sounds pre to me

mono.

just something i wrote with the pedal!

yeah, i was mistaken
vintage gear has its quirks/issues though
noise probs
im seeing $150+ on ebay for yamahas so still better to have a reliable clone/repro instead of a 40 yr old thing about to break

i have no idea what that means, but i love it. unless you're saying i probably smell like cheese.
