Wow a real miniature game review, and not some friendly flip through. Thank you for being critical of a miniature gaming product. The game sounds amazing, I was always tempted but no one told me that I could be playing the game in 10 pages. Sign me up.
Brilliant! Your enthusiasm and delivery are amazing. And your bit of fiction at the end was just the icing on the cake. I would gladly watch every die roll of your campaign. Thank you.
It's perhaps worth noting that while the game is DESIGNED as a solo system, it's easily adaptable to either co-op or PvP mode with a little imagination. Similarly, while it definitely has a Firefly/Serenity feel to it, you could just as easily make it work for a 'Star Trek:Voyager' or 'Star Wars:Mandalorian' type of setting - starship with a small crew engaged in a series of loosely connected, quasi-legal adventures.
That's a heck of a book review! Yeah, the fact that I could immediately figure out how combat works combined with all those awesome random charts really sold me on the game. 2e was certainly a lot easier on the printer, but 3e is visually spectacular! Thanks for the video, the hour just flew by!
@@solowargamer too funny. I’m terrible with grasping and retaining rules..so as I do more videos it actually helps me learn them better. Thanks for watching. I will be watching all of yours as well now. I enjoy the style!
I'm really late to commenting on this (as in years) but I really love this game. I have added some house rules to the combat system to give it more depth - and I find it creates very interesting games where I care about the characters and their stories, and where I enjoy the battles. I play the game with a journal to track the stories and add details. Your review convinced me to buy the 3rd addition a couple years ago, and I can't thank you enough.
I’d already preordered the game when I found your review. Now I’m even more excited to get my hands on it. Your enthusiasm is infectious. You did a great job of outlining the rules and explaining the feel of the game. Thanks!
@@solowargamer thanks for the quick reply. Does the A.I. make all it's own decisions? I really don't like games where the player has to decide what the A.I. does. Thanks.
Hi Dino, may I say how much I enjoyed your thoughts and consideration's on this rule set. As a returning gamer/modeller this looks like the ideal thing for me. I think your style is both relaxed and clear. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work. I'm ordering my copy now! Take care. Stay safe.
I really enjoyed this review. Already purchased the game however found the review really clear and very concise. 👍for the review And yeah, this is so Firefly and I'm really happy about that
Excellent review of Five Parsecs from Home, 3rd edition! Thank you for covering all the details to help me make a purchase decision (I own FPFH, 1st and 2nd edition). Does 3rd edition include formal rules for psionic mind powers? That was one, important thing left out of 2nd edition; although, there was an experimental supplement called "Mind Bullets".
Outstanding review. I just purchased the hardbound from Modiphius and a separate pdf from DTRPG for my bud. This is the game I have been waiting for. Damn fine job covering it. (subscribed btw)
I am on the fence about ordering this. I looked at it when they first announced it but I have a reservation and I am hoping you can answer it for me. Is the system or 5 Parsecs flexible enough to allow me to nix the aliens, and/or create my own "world" or items and custom ships in a scifi setting? Also are the rules all inclusive because if I understand correctly, it is a 5 Core Engine thing so are those mechanics/rules included in this book?
I own 1st Ed. Guess I’ll look into 2ed. Then I’ll compare Stargrave to 5 Parsecs. Been playing a lot of Rangers of Shadow Deep, so rule wise and learning curve.
Yeah, that was a bummer. I luckily had Modiphius points saved up, and I got the preorder for 5 GBP, so it essentially washed the shipping cost. Nice of them to give the PDF right away, however.
5 parsec is good, but the instant sub went coz of the Scrappers poster lied down in the background, and as such I expect some great content to be found on this channel :-)
“Miniature-agnostic”? LOL. Man, I hate that term. Don’t you people mean normal, as in what the norm was before GW and other big name exclusivists started forcing all their products on you, and prohibited the use of figures from other manufacturers in their store-played or tournament games? In other words, miniature-agnostic is the orthodoxy, not the heresy. Their forced products tactics are the heresy. I think things started going south when companies stopped telling you to write in your house rules whenever you came across something that was unclear. And when they stopped encouraging you to make (or kitbash) your own terrain and scatter pieces, instead of being nothing but a consumer.

Love the review. Well done. I agree with most points. I myself keep forgetting that 1” bump when stunned often!

I just rolled up my first crew while watching your video, loving it so far!
Good review and great intro to your game. Gave me goosebumps!
Wow, this looks pretty cool. That campaign system seems very detailed.
Glad to see you liked combat, I was concerned it wasn't gonna rate high enough

I am going to use my Kasrkins in a W40K setting.
I'm less disappointed by the thought of Stargrave than you are but I'm very pumped for Five Parsecs. Order in, I am sold!
Very in depth. Thanks!
Great video, I will be keeping an eye on this one!
Awesome series of vids! Thank you
Thanks for the thorough review! I was looking for a system to use with a recent purchase of cyberpunk miniatures. This looks like a good fit!
@@solowargamer thanks! Ill do that!
Thanks for doing this video. I have the rules on the way and your excitement about the game has me really pumped up to get it.
Good choice. Great series. Pre-ordered the book. Well done.
Thanks to your enthousiasm you really got me thinking about buying this book.you deserve a like and a subsciber.keep up the good content
Awesome work dude. Just ordered myself a copy :D
I haven't tried this yet, but I am certainly hearing a lot of good things. Need to give it a try.
Agreed, the 22 GBP shipping for a 25 GBP book to US kills the print option for me. Will wait for a US shipping option or just buy the PDF only later.
30 usd for shipping.
So no way to buy it.
Can I ask a couple of questions?
1. What's the recommended board size?
2. How do the enemy models activate, move, shoot etc?
Thanks very much.

@@solowargamer Thank you. I don't want to go crazy with psi, but wanted to at least have something to represent Jedi/Sith type characters.
Sold!!! Thanks!
Is there a reputation system with the factions?
If not would make a nice system, as crew members would all have contacts based on thier Reputation.
“You may think combat is boring.” Curious if it is not possible to scale combat complexity to taste. What’s the rush…..?
Outstanding review.

@@solowargamer It does, thank you, I do appreciate the answers. Looks like I'll be spending some money on Ivan's book. Have a great one.

I regret I didn't get 2nd Ed. Glad this is on the way.
Great review. Im looking forward to five leagues from the borderlands since fantasy is more to my taste. I hope it is as good.
what is the table size i need to play?
@@solowargamer thanks
Your voice sounds funny, but the vid was interesting, so you get a like and a comment.
All hail algorithm!
Looked it up, shipping is 30 usd on 36 dollar product.
So no sale.

This might be a bit late, but they now have a PDF-only option for $21 US dollars.
