- In this video, I will go over why it's very important for Sonic to get a win with this title. With how the blue blur has been getting shafted in the games lately between Forces, the Colors remake , and the Origins collection being a bit lacking in terms of what it was trying to do, along with the questionable decision making SEGA has been doing, our boy has been having quite a bad time as of late.

SEGA actually wanted this game released last year because they wanted the money closer to Sonic 2’s momentum. Iizuka told them it wasn’t ready yet and pushed back, because they haven’t learned their lesson from the last time they pushed a game out early.

I think Sonic Team is well aware that this is a make or break for a lot of folks.
We had a roller coaster of emotions all throughout the 2010s. Colors was good (aged poorly), generations was great. Free Riders killed the Sonic Riders series... and Forces while many stick up for it. It was subpar.
I think Sonic team knows that and they are probably tired of sandbagging the games. At the very least I know a high budget game when I see one. And this looks like one. The last one we had was back in Unleashed technically and that's my favorite Sonic game.
Tl;dr I have my hopes. No matter what happens, I'll still support them. But they gotta make a hit for sure.

Sonic Colors for Wii was a disappointment when it came out & failed miserably to live up to either 2008's Unleashed or 2009's Black Knight let alone the glory of the Adventure Games. 2010 was probably the worst year in the history of Sonic for having 3 low quality games release within weeks of eachother with Free Riders, Sonic 4, & Colors. Generations wasn't all that special unmodded & it was the best 3D Platformer Sonic got in the 2010s just because of how badly Sonic was failing during the 2010s. I'm frustrated that right when it seems the series is finally returning to quality we aren't physically getting it.
If this game ends up being a flop, I wouldn’t be surprised if Izuka’s credibility gets absolutely destroyed
Oh it won't be destroyed. It will be obliterated.
Izuka isn't the one directing the game, it's kishimoto. So if anything his creditlbility would be destroyed (kishimoto is responsable for pretty much any sonic game you dislike like lost world and forces.)
Sonic lost world was a good game (especially the 3ds version for better fights against zetis) but the gameplay wasn't enough deepened. The game is good but not at the same level to Sonic colours or Sonic generations.

If frontiers fails then Sonic's IP could be sold to another company. Sonic Team has been proud of the games outcome so far and how it will set a new foundation for the next 10 years and even we as fans can see that happening. If it fails then they wont even have a foundation to begin with. They might aswell let someone else work on the game
I doubt Sonic will be sold to another company. If anything, Sega might outsource Sonic to a third-party studio if the game fails.
Funny you should say that. I had a conversation with a friend of mine regarding what it would be like if Sonic was sold to another company...the question you then have to ask yourself is who would be the safest pick?
Nintendo - Consistently good titles, but say goodbye to all your fan games, rom hacks and anything fan created. Oh, and having it priced at $50.00 forever.
Capcom - Consistantly good titles, but a new game won't drop until like...50 years later. But hey! He may appear in the next Capcom clash or as a Blanka skin in Street Fighter.
EA - Will release a game with 3 stages, then you need to pay for the other 8. Then you need to pay more for the special stage DLC, followed by another payment to unlock Super Sonic after getting the chaos emeralds. And $20.00 for each additional character.
The conversation pretty much went along the lines like that.

The ONLY company i think would even be a good idea for Sega to sell Sonic to would be Sony since at least they have a right head on their shoulders most of the time, yes i said MOST of the time, we would have to very much say goodbye to the Sonic movies, comics, and shows no matter what company Sonic would even theoretically go to…

If sonic frontiers fails, it isn't sega's fault, since persona, fantasy star, yakusa and others are pretty good franchises, which makes segas credibilty still stable
The thing though with the Yakuza series though is that it's by Ryu Ga Gotoko studios that's published by Sega... Not really a Sega game
But I agree though overall with your sentiments about the other series, they really are good series.
I would agree with this if it wasn't for a few notable things...
The Persona series (3 to 5) is made by a different team and published by Atlus. Sega owns the rights to them and that is pretty much it. As far as influences go, its mostly on Atlus who shot calls everything regarding those games.
Phantasy Star did not get good until the third and fourth entry on the genesis, laid dormant until its MMO came out, kept PSO2 in a cage for YEARS in Japan, had a VERY rocky launch when it hit state side, and both PSO2 and NGS has been off to an awful start, NGS having it way worst than base PSO2. It was not until VERY recently, the game has been getting better because Sega finally took the time to give the game a good chunk of features it was severely lacking. (Free players were very limited on what they can do, content updates were slow and lacking horribly, some classes were terrible, no concerts, I can go on, but thankfully they did fix it way later.) But up until that point, it was doing pretty bad. Oh, and lets not forget how long it took em to get the games over to the PS4, when it's been readily available for the PS4 AND the Switch over in Japan too. (At least base PSO2 is on switch.)
Then there's the Yakuza series which is being developed by Ryu-ga Studios. Sega only publishes the games and had been consistently good due to the fact that it has a dedicated team. If it were not for the fact that Ryu-ga Studios had been the ones behind making these titles, knowing Sega, they wouldn't put nearly as many Yakuza titles out there as they are now. They'd end up in the Sega graveyard where the rest of their IPs never see the light of day again.

And do not get me started on why Sega has been noted as being Sonic's worst enemy. That is a conversation for another day.
Dude, corporate Sega is Sonic’s worst enemy, they pushed Sonic 3 and forced it to be split for a Mc Donalds toy deal, they rushed Heroes to get a new game out after Adventure 2 Battle’s success, they’re the ones who split Sonic Team in half for both 06 and Secret Rings, they’re the ones who pushed Big Red Button onto the Wii U for Boom when it was never gonna work, we can keep going if we want, Sega just seemingly has a record of chasing easy money for Sonic, meanwhile their other franchises are untouched mainly because they have more room to stretch around but with Sonic being Sega’s main money source, they just don’t care and have showcased it multiple times…
@@2elusivereviews Gonna put an addendum on that, NGS still completely fucked over PSO as a franchise because it purged everything the series had that was unique in addition to terrible management.
It'd be like if the boost era started by Sega removing momentum and the homing attack, purging the musical style, and rebranding the logo and everything else with a Thunder Force aesthetic while cutting the budget for everything except for the world size down to 5% of what it was before
And then doubled down when people complained about it.

Agree with most of what you say, but c'mon, using Sonic 06 as an argument to fear if Frontiers fails just like game critics used to do it's so old at this point, 16 years have already passed since then, it's time to get over it, we all know what happened then, but c'mon, move on

I would gladly move on if they didn't repeat the same mistakes with other titles like what they've done with 06, the main repeater being: Lets rush the game out before it's even finished. They've done that with Boom, done that with Origins, and did it again with the Colors Remake. Then they also half-baked Forces. All which are pretty recent titles by the way.
I hope that the game will restore it's characters.
I will shout this from the tops on mountains and will die on them defending my opinion - games with good plot ended after unleashed, and game without butchered characters with thier development thrown out of the window ended after adventure 2.

Amen to that! As someone who is trying to get into writing, I value consistency and not assassinating characters over anything else. With Ian Flynn being the main writer for this game, we can possibly see the characters return to their former glory or at the very least, have better writing in general so as long as Sega does not restrict the man's creativity with the mandates and all that.

Y’all overreacting, if this game fails, Sonic ain’t going anywhere, especially after forces nothing happened to the franchise, so what makes you think this game will kill Sonic?
Which is why I never said in my video that it will kill him. I've mentioned that at most, he'll get carried in other media like his comics, shows, and movies. What will likely happen is any faith in Sega's ability to make a good game will either be hanging by a thread or completely gone.
My only problem with the game is that it doesn't seem like Sega intends to actually release it this year. My Switch doesn't have room for full game Downloads anymore & Origins took the same Digital Exclusive route with an absurd chart. As for this video 3K was dethroned within 5 Years of its release by Sonic Adventure which then was forced to share its throne for best Sonic Game with its 2001 sequel. 3K may be king of 2D Sonic, although 3D offered another dimension entirely.
Mmmm...I wouldn't go so far to say it was dethroned by Adventure. I love that game to death, but Adventure has its share of issues that prevents it from claiming the throne outright, same for SA2. I won't get too far into the details here, but to sum it up, it basically has to do with the fact that there are some aspect of the game that are not the greatest thing to play through, like Amy's section being a less fluid Mario 64 if he had a chaser mechanic. If there's any game that came absolutely close to doing it, its Mania.

I want sonic to be good again but I have no hope in frontiers;the fact sonic has to “clean his image” yet again is tiring and I’m tired of most of his games being mediocre or bad.
Around the time of gens I could call myself a fan but I can’t really say that anymore when most of the games that have released since have not been good.
Frontiers has yet to show something that feels exciting and interesting imo all the open world areas look bland and generic (same with the enemies), re used level designs,theme and worse “boost” gameplay and outside of those without momentum there’s not much to play around with when it comes to sonic’s speed in an open playground.
I don’t think this will be 06 or BOOM bad but I do think it will be mediocre like forces,lost world and to a lesser extent colors (colors is great for everything but gameplay,level design and story)
Idk I feel burned and wish sonic could just be like Mario in that even at his worst a Mario game is generic, too safe but is still a fun time. I don’t want sonic to be like Mario but I want him to be consistently good-great with his games instead of being mid/bad a lot of the time.
I hate that sonic is often copying what made others succeed and trend chasing which is another reason I’m not too positively frontiers.
(Sorry for the long cringy rant I’m just tired of sonic pretty much only being consistently good outside of games I just wish the games were good too)
It's all good bro. In fact this is a shining example of what I was talking about. I've spoke with plenty of peeps who are burned out of Sonic for the reasons you listed above, so I completely understand. With me personally, Frontiers is going to be one of two things...it's either going to be something that will blow my expectations out of the water which is what I'm hoping for, or it will be a "meh" title, or a buggy mess...Okay, that was three things. I'm overall going to keep my expectations low and see where it gets us when the game is out. Know that when I play it and do an update video on the game itself, I'm not leaving a stone unturned and hope for the best.

I am going to not get your hopes up and give you a summary of frontier's reputation right now. It looks like it will succeed, the public audience loves it, and the actual sonic fans think its more positive than negative, but it is like a 65-35 compared to the usual 80-20. So if you do play it, tread lightly. It is by no means a perfect game, BUT reviewers and casual audience alike seem to enjoy it. Overall rating from both so far averages to a 60-70% rating, so lets all play the game and be modest and not accidentally overhype it.
Yep! This is why I'm keeping my expectations at a realistically fair level. Not over hyping it or lowballing it, just eagerly waiting for it to get in my hands and hope for the best.

The chances of us playing those two again is the same amount of chances we have at getting Mega Man Legends 3 from Capcom. 🙃
The real problem was the Just Sonic Mentality that started plaguing the series 15 Years Ago. Silver & Blaze are examples of the excellent cast of characters that the Sonic Series was known for before JSM took over the series. You're talking to someone who was frustrated by Colors & Generations only letting you play as Sonic. The fans of the characters were betrayed hard to please the minority who wanted Just Sonic & at this point it has been the new normal for half the series existence. Maybe someday we'll get lucky the same way we got unlucky with this series. Blaze deserved her own games.
If it does will it really do that much for the franchise in the long run or Will Sega make sure the games in the future suck ass?

As I said, Mania definately came close. Only reason why Mania doesn't surpass it is mainly due to the fact that Mania is a game built immensely off of nostalgia and carries over a lot of elements that Sonic 3K already put on the table. The same is also said with Generations. Both are amazing games, don't get me wrong, but they don't quite push the envelope like 3K and in the case of the 3D titles, Unleashed. I'd elaborate further, but that's an entire essay in it of itself.

Tbh you can’t blame sonic team for bad games, I full heartedly blame Sega because they don’t give their devs enough time, I mean look at Sonic boom Rise of Lyric, if they didn’t make decisions behind Big Red Buttons back, the game could’ve been good, and maybe the Wii U wouldn’t have that bad of a reputation of bad games. It seems a lot of people liked the demo, except for one Female critic who just hated the game, even PREMYDAREMY liked it, Premy bashes this game to the ground in some of his vids but he actually liked the demo, which gave me a bit more hope since he has called it mid so many times. I’m happy that they aren’t rushing the game, but their marketing has been so bad that everyone thought the game would just flop
Yup, there's a reason why I never mentioned Sonic Team at all when talking about it. Sega has not only screwed them over, they also screwed over Big Red Button as you mentioned, and recently screwed over Head Cannon who was the team behind the amazing title that is Sonic Mania. It was so bad, they had to come out on Twitter and clear their name and explain why Origins was released at such a lack luster state.
As people have pointed out before, Sega is Sonic's worst enemy right now. The games we've gotten so far could have turned out waaaaaaaay better if Sega would just ease up on the reigns when it comes to creativity, stop sticking to unrealistic deadlines and allow the devs to properly cook their games so we can consistently get good titles.

I do get what you mean, but that actually sends the wrong message. The movie is handled by a completely different organization all together, same for the comics and the TV shows. Boycotting them will not hurt Sega so much, but it will hurt (At least in the movie's case) Paramount, and the team who designed the characters for the movie itself.

Game will be trash. Trust me. I know when a game will be good or bad by videos and what they show. They haven't shown ANYTHING that makes me want to play the open world for 6+ hours. The boost stages are a joke.

I do hope that this is a matter of opinion... Just because you think the game will be trash doesn't mean that the other person will say the same... They may agree with you on some points, but on the overall scale, it can be a good game. I for one, cannot wait to play Sonic Frontiers! I normally don't play open world games and as a casual Sonic fan, to me this game looks awesome and promising!

Hmmm....I can understand what you mean if we look back at his history since his games had not been hitting right after Mania. But I'll hold my tongue on weather or not the game will be good after I play it for myself.
