    One thing I also like that this game do is that because of how it structured, the levels in the second half of the game need you to use the weapons you get from the first half to progress further. It make them useful outside of just being another way to kill enemies. I don't think any megaman games that use this structure utilize it the way 8 does, and I love it for that.

    • @2elusivereviews
      @2elusivereviews  Год назад +7

      Yuuuuuup. That's why I love using the weapons as often as I do. I'd say the first X title comes pretty close to rewarding you for weapon usage in that one too.

    • @linhero797
      @linhero797 Год назад

      The issue woth that is that the weapons are all rather garbage and weapon usage is more often FORCED then something you do because you want to or because you notice something. Plus weapon usage is never done in a clever way.
      You never see an item in an area that's got a clever trick you can do with weapons or anything like that. It's just "Now it's time to use your weapons kiddo." in Mega Man 8. Compare stage based weapon usage in all of Mega Man 8 to Mega Man 7's Junk Man Stage and see how night and day this is. Junk Man can be beaten with just the buster, you are never forced to but the game makes several hints at doing so, and its hints make a lot of sense. Using Thunder Bolt on a generator box and Freeze Cracker on Lava are things the player is likely to naturally try do. And the game rewards the player for doing so.
      That's how it's supposed to be done, encouraged but not forced. Because it's important to remember, the player isn't always guaranteed to have these things, so forcing them to use it is terrible design.
      Especially when the mechanics the game is forcing the player to use aren't that great.

    I'll never forget laying my eyes on Mega Man 8 for the very 1st time. I absolutely LOVED the new redesigns of the characters as well as their animations. It looked so...smooth, so fluid. The soundtrack? Another homerun (the staff credits music always takes me back to my childhood ❤). The robot masters? Liked every single one of them. The power ups? Awesome. The level design? Fantastic. The voice acting? So incredibly TERRIBLE that it's PHENOMENAL. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've played and beaten this game. One of my all time favorite Mega Man games bar none.
    On a side note (for those who may not know) the Saturn version has exclusive content over the PS1 version. It has 2 extras boss battles in Cut Man (Mega Man 1) & Wood Man (Mega Man 2). Cut Man you fight midway in the game while Wood Man is the mid boss in Search Man's stage, it has 2 new remixed theme songs when you fight them, no slowdown, more enemies on screen at points, Tengu Man's stage theme is completely different (I like both his Saturn & PS1 stage themes but I like the Saturn version a bit better), Aqua Man's level theme is also a little different on Saturn, it also has a sound test mode, art gallery mode and hidden animation test mode that isn't in the PS1 version. While the Saturn version is definitely the definitive version you can't go wrong with the PS1 version as you're still getting a great game overall. Just kinda sucks that every time it gets ported to another system it's always the PS1 version.

    And if i recall theres 40 Bolts to collect total. Some levels do absolutely require coming back after Astroman. Namely Tengu, Frost, and Aqua Man stages
    Tengu Mans is the ship portion of auto scrolling right before the energy machine

    Aqua Man the second screen after midboss that brings up the water after its destroyed

    I tried an experiment once, to how hard it is to beat Mega Man 1-10 without using any e-tanks or continues. This was before I got my hands on 11. 8 Turned out to be the hardest to do this with and I was stunned. The reason being since they start you at a checkpoint when you continue, they feel justified in making all their levels much longer. Some sections have tons and tons of enemies all around and it can be a grind beating levels without losing lives. It's not because of cheap deaths like spikes or death pits, a lot of these deaths are from taking too much damage because of all the enemies you have to deal with in a level. Of course, that's to say nothing of "jump, jump, slide, slide". Also, yes the final Wily battle is tougher than it looks and tougher than it seems like it should be and I'm not entirely sure why. It took me about 10 tries to beat this without an E-tank or a continue, which was more than any of the other games took me. Previously I had thought Megamans 9 and 10 would have been the toughest, followed by 3 and 7. But no, it was 8.

    • @linhero797
      @linhero797 Год назад

      It less has to do with the developers feeling justified in making the game hard and just, bad enemy placement that often forces the player to take damage. And bad design where the player is forced to use unreliable and often just outright poor mechanics. No Mega Man game but MM8 has stuff like 8 Wily's 1. Clown Man's Bell Gimmick. Sword Man's Puzzle Stage, and Search Man's Thunder Claw segments. All of which are more then willing to instantly kill the player for something they often didn't know because the game does a poor job at explaining things.
      As for the enemies, Tengu Man has a section where the player is forced to take damage because of the raining mets. Grenade Man has the hammer segment that's basically just. "Do this right or take damage then take more damage." Clown Man likes having enemies stuffed in areas you can't see because of the active foreground and background. And just generally poor placement that ensures damage because you often can't see the things coming for you, or below you.
      And enemies are often placed in cheap areas.
      Nevermind the fact Mega Man 8 is just the slowest game in the series.
      I can see it having value but there's other reasons behind Mega Man 8 ending up like this, if we don't factor in any personal experience that is.

      It was always a rather superfluous feature. It's only really useful in a handful of segments. Plus there was just simple logistical reasons.
      Mega Man 9 and 10 were made as Wii VC Games. Thus they had to work well for the bare minimum controls of a Wii Remote which had only a few more buttons then the NES Controller. Hell Mega Man 9 didn't even have Hot Switch buttons.
      And Mega Man 11 already uses all the standard buttons shared between the Switch, Xbox, and Playstation consoles for far more useful features, Rush Jet/ Coil and its main gameplay mechanic. So no game ever really saw the need to bring it back.

I only took 2 tries on the Wily one the first time I beat the game. The thing I find is majority of people who think Megaman 8 is bad seem to think its bad because it's hard. Or the voice acting. Which really the voice acting is incredibly minor and pretty much all Megaman games are hard and require memorization. You're supposed to play through them multiple times. I still think it's actually the best one of the original 8. Haven't gotten around to playing the newest entries in part since Legacy Collection only had half the games on the Switch cart and I didn't have a PS4. I'll have to find the separate PS4 discs, also obnoxious, once I get a PS5.

    MM8 and MMX4 are my favorite megaman games these two games were my introduction to the megaman series as a whole and the reason why I love it so much, they were the first two games I owened on my ps1 and honestly even though I played evey megaman game afterward each game felt like a downgrade, the music in these games was never matched imo, the pixel art to this day is phenomenal the animated cutscenes and the fact they were not too easy and not too hard either they were a perfect midpoint and a perfect start for this series, the copies I owened were in Japanese since I neither spoke Japanese nor English back then, so I didn't notice the atrocious voice acting 😂, I loved the story of both, loved the character designs, I actually felt sad when Iris died (I was six don't judge me😅) Bass and Zero were like my favorite characters, I wished there was a way to play as Bass, I really enjoyed the anime cutscenes and I remember thinking there was an actual anime that these games were based on and I searched everytime my dad took me to a video store. I was so sad that these games were not received well and so never got anime cutscenes again, they never used the same pixel art again (I know we got X5 and X6) but MM9 and MM10 used the ugly 8 but style, I'm sorry I love pixel art it's just that 8-bit style was always ugly imo 16-but and 32-bit is what I love.

    i love megaman 8 as well as that era of capcom in general!! :3
    while i had a few problems like the sliding sections even when i know what to do,bass getting forgotten after the intro and rush(which to be fair rush jet/most of his abilities outside to an extent coil were pretty useless after 3 & really only missed the super adapter of 7.) it definitely isn't the worst classic game.(would say & bass,7 in a few areas,10 or 5 is closer to that.)
    it's outweighed by what made me love the game when i played it on anniversary collection like the visuals(love tengu man's stage,swordman,aqua man,frostman's stage in the city areas & the look of dr. wily's castle.),music(really makes it feel like a 90's megaman anime with my favorites being tengu man,frostman,astro man and electrical communication/brand new way.) & cutscenes especially(wish we'd get another megaman anime in this style or a promotional anime/cutscenes for 12,do wish for it & x4 we had a few more cutscenes for boss intros like what x3 did.),voice acting(don't find it that much different from a 90's ova with the vibes megaman has and outside dr. light's elmer fudd voice don't find it resident evil,early sonic,symphony of the night or especially x4 bad.),roll's new outfit,extras(wish the future collections included the sega saturn gallery/rewatch).
    duo(like the evil energy being an origin for roboenza & the wily/sigma virus in the x series with what it does and would love to see duo return.) ,challenge(really loved the flying sections getting a full team of auto,eddie & beat.) and the weapons(i actually used them more compared to earlier games where i stuck with the mega buster and loved the upgrades like the arrow/laser.) to where i'd say it was a very good 10th anniversary game that i wish the series would try it's visuals again.

    Every time I see videos like these, they always follow the same theme, saying that there's some deep rooted spiritualism or meaning in every little thing, making this thing seem a lot more ambitious than it really is.
    Mega Man 8...Is genuinely not one of those types of things.
    Mega Man 8 is legitimately underrated, and is only dunked on for solely the voice acting, a horse that's been dead since the early 2000s. Or at least, in my eyes, it seems like its dunked on for the voice acting.
    I played through all 11 Mega Man games over the course of a week, and I'm coming out with this
    Of the NES games, 2 & 3 are the best, but 2 slightly edges it out because the Doc Robots severely hurt 3 and decreases replay value for me. So I go back to 3 less in comparison, unless I input a password to bypass them, but it doesn't feel as fun to beat 8 Robot Masters than have to input a code just to advance. 8 is my favorite overall as it felt like a proper evolution of the formula, and it was super discouraging when 9 & 10 returned to the 8 bit style just for nostalgia (that is the only reason from what I've gathered)
    11 was a solid return to form after Mega Man went dormant around 2012-ish.

      I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought Capcom kind of regressed a bit with 9 and 10. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy those games but...I don't really play em as often as I do the other titles because it felt like a step backwards compared to what was already accomplished. Especially in 9's case. But that is a topic for a different day.
