Megaman 8 graced us with the deeply written and masterfully voiced line of dialogue "I'm Aquaman but you can call me handsome guy" and for that, we salute it
The Robot Masters have so much personality in this game. Whether it’s Clownman’s smug quips, Aquaman’s obnoxious little brother energy, or Astroman having a full on panic attack during his fight, it really adds to 8’s vibe.
Absolutely, astro man is great being the complete nervous wreck that he is during the boss fight, and sword man acting all chivalrous and honorable by quoting how he's just doing his job, his death quote complimenting mega man "nice shot"
played the japanese version of the game, so the voice acting was audibly good to me and eletricial communication was on my mp3 playlist always. (even though I've no idea what they're talking, and also just being a mystery with the shop item usage). 8 was also my fav too as I found it "hard" to get back to the older megaman games apart from 7. The opening anime animation for 8 tricked me in thinking this is the quality of animation to expect from that ruby spears megaman series when I first chance upon it.
I love this game to death but yeah I remember the cutscenes looking really cool but the VA almost break the immersion. Thankfully the legacy collection includes the Japanese version which is a day and night difference I can't play this or X4s Western version ever again. The art style was awesome the sprites and animations were solid and it was fun albeit frustrating at times. I know the RUclipsr isn't really a fan of the art style but if you grew up in the 90s this was the time anime was really taking off in the states so for us growing up during this time it was dope.
i'll never forget how this game went out of its way to put more of a focus on the story only to name the evil energy source and main plot device, quite literally, "evil energy". it has had no other canon name.
Finding out that 8 was almost universally disliked was a real shocker for me considering everyone in my childhood friend group considered it their favorite out of the original series. I had gone through most of my life assuming everyone had equal love and appreciation for 8 only to find out the opposite when everyone praised the return to 8 bit in mega man 9. I am at the very least thankful that mega man and bass got made before capcom decided to can this brand of mega man.
People coming from the older ones didn’t like how compromised the game as a whole felt in comparison to past ones. Sure they had far more visual technology and such to work with, but at the same time the systems it was out on were heavily limited in how they could even use it. Stages were either really short or split into two sections. Often times stages felt like they repeated. And then if you only played the PS1 version, you were missing on content. These were all fairly big reasons why 9 and 10 went all the way back to NES visuals, though I would also say that those games missed a few of the fundamentals of 1-6 in their own way.
Its so strange, because when I first played this game on the anniversary collection I hated it. I played it multiple times, hated it every time. It was by far my least favorite mega man. Then, a few years back at this point, I played it on the legacy collection, and I had so much fun. I was in disbelief as I found myself seeking out every bolt just so I could play the game for longer. I still enjoy playing it and I now consider it one of my favorites. It just had a complete 180 out of absolutely nowhere for me and I am not upset about that at all.
I've had this same thing happen with games or entire genres even. I used to feel underwhelmed by de blob because I was obsessed with physics mechanics in games at the time and wouldn't engage with its actual merits, and this extended to a lot of games at that time. For a while I thought I hated turn based games because I wanted intense action and thought turn based was "fake" by comparison, but now some of my favorite games have turn based combat
Mega Man 8's not a bad game...although it's certainly a step down from Mega Man 7, which is easily the best game in the Classic series next to Mega Man 10.
My favorite RUclips videos seem to be long, semi rambling analyses of some media that I vaguely was aware of but didn't have anywhere near as much love for as the video's creator. Would love a series from you like that. :P Fits perfectly into my video watching niche.
One of my favorite innovations from this game, that for whatever reason, never made a return, is the ability to always utilize the Mega Buster, regardless of which weapon or item you've got equipped. Why hasn't Capcom brought this feature back?
I’m not as passionate for classic mega man as I used to, but 8 is one of the few I still find interest in revisiting. It’s just so funky and absurd that I can’t help but come back to it. Also aqua man and clown man are the fruitiest robot masters ever, I adore their vibes so much.
Im with you on liking this despite its shortcomings. The games chock full of 90's charm even if the rubbery animation does get in the way of the game feel and some pf the sfx can get too cutesy. Its the same reason why I still hold Mega Man & Bass close to my heart along with the collectible cd bios. Hope you do more videos like this even if it isnt about the mm series.
I really love this video. There are so many franchises where my favorite iteration of it is objectively one of the worse ones and this not only validated me, but gave me so much energy. It is so fun hearing you gush about things you love!
Megaman X6 is the same for me. It has a lot of good ideas just poorly executed, and it's a shame they never tried them again. I really appreciate the ideas regardless and love that game.
I mean I'd still say out of the 11 numbered games 1-3 are objectively worse. Play through Doc Robot stages or Ice Man's stage and tell me those games don't have faults
Heck Yeah! It wasn't the original Mega Man series, but my absolute favorite games growing up was the Mega Man Starforce series. It's very different to the main series, taking more of an rpg take. I highly recommend if you haven't played
I've been going through a sudden phase of me replaying Mega Man 8 again recently so it genuinely makes me glad to see other people also loving it for what it is One thing I absolutely love about it has to be the overall character design of the Robot Masters (Also Duo) of this game. They're all so simple yet complex at the same time that leads to them all scratching my brain a special way that makes me very happy, same goes for the art direction and all the silly little cutscenes Thank you very much for making this, very fun to watch, and I hope you have a good day! Edit/update on this that I feel like is good to mention since I'm watching this video again [6/7/2023]: I got my boyfriend to play through all of this game and he just finished it about an hour or so ago! He may not like the game (or the Mega Man series as a whole because he's not good at it), but it still makes me happy that he at least tried and I am very proud of him for playing it all the way through without quitting and never touching it again We now mutually bully each other by calling each others favourite games bad it's great
I do spriting and code work for a fighting game celebration of the series called Mega Man Arena, and we added sword man about a year ago. I took that opportunity to look through sword's stages to see what could be made of them for a casual fighting game setting (it's a platform fighter so we try to incorporate stage hazards sometimes). Doing this made me really realize how messy and unexplored the hazards and mechanics in 8's stages were, BUT this also allowed me to explore them better, for example, taking the dungeon style, 4 challenges first half of sword's stage, and making it into basically the smash bros wario ware stage, where the stage can reform to recreate one of the 4 challenges in that section. It's hardly utilized in the real stage, but now we were able to fully flesh it out (and it honestly fits a fighting game better than the original game). So while 8 does have thousands of gimmicks it introduces and abandons in the same sentence, I've ended up really appreciating them, since it fits our game's format for stages really well.
I also know more about the first half of sword's stage than anyone else in the world I'm pretty sure Did you know that basically every weapon can hit the floating ball in the tengu part of sword's stage except for specifically: Rush bike bullets Rush carpet bomb Arrow shot Flash Bomb Astro Crush And, for some reason, Water balloon Why these exceptions can't hit it but Flame Sword itself can, is beyond me I have been burdened with this knowledge and I must spread it to the masses.
8 always felt like the best classic MegaMan game to me, especially when I used to play it on my Anniversary Collection copy on PS2 (never got the glitchies tho), I haven't played it in a while, so I might just track down a copy for my Saturn and give it a spin, I think the biggest reason I loved and still do love this game are the beautiful graphics and sound design... It's great to see more people appreciate it!
Megaman 8 has my favorite stage being frost man's stage. I love the snowy city aesthetic especially when it goes to night after the first jump slide part. Makes me cry.
It really is a beautiful stage with the changing background colors, snow effects and general tile design. Hits that certain chill snowy vibe for sure :)
as an extremely huge megaman fan, it’s nice to see a megaman vid coming from ya. 8 is honestly my favorite one (of the classic series, anyway) too lol.
As one of the game's lovers, yeah there really is no super intelligent way to put it. Pretty graphics and audio go brrr I guess. Though I can say that I probably love the game so much because of how drastically it stands out from the rest in the series. Even if it is objectively messy, all I really care about at the end of the day is its uniquely charming feeling.
I just really like the art style, and even if the voices are bad at times, they add a lot of charm. I actually like how the bosses being split allows for stages that can rely on you having certain boss powers. Also the Mega ball is an amazing weapon, as ball jumps add a lot to the game.
you should give the series a try, the games are really good id really recommend the first mega man x game for snes. that game has aged insanely well, the gameplay is great, the levels are well-designed, everything just clicks into place perfectly. it also has some of the best music and sound design ive ever heard in a video game. you can get it on modern consoles as part of the x legacy collection, which also includes x2, 3 and 4 (also great games). i might be a bit biased, since this was one of my favorite childhood games, and as such i have a huge amount of nostalgia for it, but i genuinely think x1 is one of the best games ever made, and i think its one every gamer should play through at least once.
When I played 8 in legacy collection 2 I thought it was pretty similar to the games that came before and after it, never knew it was considered odd by most of the fanbase
I did enjoy this. I like video essay critical analyses, and more generally I really like your sense of humor, so I'm def interested in seeing it applied in this kind of context in the future.
Actually why Heat man has that face is not because he's tired, but suffering from heat stroke, in the Archie Comics Heat man said he was having heat problems.
This is the 1st ever MegaMan game that I have finished and the one that got me hooked to play the other MM games. The boss music gives you an epic anime fight vibe. I had a lot of fun fighting mm8 bosses specially Tengu Man. The stages fun and are just right; not that easy and not that hard either. And the music on each stage are really good. The weapons are decent and have a lot of uses. I just wish that there's a difficulty mode setting and the bosses' weakness just like the other MM games.
Gotta agree here. Though I've been playing since the nes days, 8 is my favorite largely because of the robot master designs, and Tenguman is my favorite robot master ever. I love that dude
as someone who (relatively to the other mega man games) still doesn't like 8 that much, this video reminded me of everything i still appreciate about this title and might have made me see it slightly more positively than before, even if i still much prefer the more standard classic series. also, the little ytp segments that slip through every now and then in your videos always get me
I'm happy that you're not afraid to point out a game's flaws and still have a personal attachment to it. We all have games that we love that may not be the most well designed and that's totally okay. Feelings like those are part of what makes us human. Also, Mega Man Maker music at 23:17. Love it.
I was never one who played all the megaman games. In fact mega man 8 was the first mega man game I played and when I found out that it's supposedly the most disliked and the worse game in the series? I felt kind of guilty for liking it. But after watching your vid all I can say is: "Y'know what? Yeah I like mega man 8. Sue me." and now I have the arguments why I do.
I love 8 mostly because it's my introduction to the series when I was a kid, and that the colors really popped out. Also knowing there's another Clown Man enjoyer makes my brain go :o)
The vibe that megaman 8 gives off, both in its art style such as in pixel art, ost and everything is simply just something unique about this game and in the franchise as a whole, and I really wish that more Mega Man fan-games tried to replicate the same feel that this one does instead of always doing the 8-Bit formula of the Nes games. Maybe that's one of the reasons of why Mega Man: Perfect Blue is one of my favorites Mega Man fan-games even though it's still just a demo.
While I totally get preferring this art style as I really like MM8’s art, to me as a new millennium baby Mega Man looks like his 8-bit sprite. That’s just Mega Man.
I just noticed while watching this, Mega Man 11 has a classic gaming translation error. "Mash Burner" should definitely be "Mush Burner", for reasons obvious to us. It's an easy mistake to make, as the "mush" from "mushroom" would look like "mash" to someone who is just translating the kana with no image of the visual design. Neat. Anyway, I'm subscribing.
This was my first Megaman game and I still love it. I love it so much, when I lost it when I was younger, found a copy at a flee market and bought it instantly some years ago. I occasionally go back to play it and do only buster runs on bosses. Good times..
I liked this more video essay-y type of format and I'm letting you know! It's nice hearing people talk about all kinds of stuff they love, plus I just enjoy your scriptwriting a bunch.
Yes!!! I have been talking about the Rompers (The Toy Soldier Enemy,) getting sucked into the Tornado Hold and getting flung out in the same manner as Team Rocket for as long as I can remember, and It finally got talked about! Thank you!!!
that "semi-isometric view" that you wanted a name for is called "2.5 D" and is an actual sub-sub-genre of platforming games. From what I've seen its usually a component of metroidvanias this side of the millenium.
MM8 holds a special place in my heart. The voice acting for me gives it identity too (not saying it's good). It just isnt the same expirence playing it with japanese VA. There was an interview with Ruth Marie jarman, the english dub VA for mega man on yt by colefam and its really wholesome and I recommend watching it. Overall, I agree with almost everything you've said about the game *except it being your favorite and your thoughts on clown man's stage, I still think you're crazy for that*
Finally!!! Some video of someone how loves MegaMan 8! It's wonderful to see a video appreciating the little details of the animation of this gorgeous game. Plus the music! The best track for me is Willy Stage 2. I don't know... I love it! Thanks for the incredible video.
I was actually shocked to see people didn't like this game. My friends and I loved this game! Very fond memories of Capcom games on playstation during summer break. This, MegaMan X4, MegaMan Legends, and MegaMan 8
thank you for this video! mega man 8 is also my favorite of the classic series, and if that also means I have a "freakish little brain," I can live with that 😂
In my point of view, megaman began to evolve from the 7th game, it already seemed like something anime from that game, the villains, the soundtrack, the drawings, everything perfect
I don't know if I would call splitting robot masters and less castle stages as "evolution." I would even argue that the evolution existed from 1-4, then began to stagnate until the new ideas in MM8. The first 4 Mega Man games are way more different than people give them credit for.
I actually really love Mega man 8! So I loved listening to this video. Though if I were to make a change, I would really like Frost man and Aqua man to share weaknesses, similar to Burst and Slash from the previous title so that the two separate weakness chains can connect into one even one. I've never been of fan of two separate chains personally (why I wish Needle and Hard would swap weaknesses in 3). I originally used to think Tengu and Aqua should swap based on a Screen nuke seeming better for a flying enemy than a ground crawling weapon, I found out both of Tengu man's weaknesses are inspired by Tengu yokai mythology and didn't want to take away from that. Plus it serves him right for coming down just to taunt you anyway
I highly recommend you to play MegaMan & Bass, it has some genuinely endearing mystic, similar in experience to 8, a bit off when it comes to the love put on it, but it has that sensation of exploring. I think is super fun and it has a lot of things to give. Btw loved your video, and the way you edit and narrate things, thank you for working on this!!
Not going to lie, I still consider the first two games to be the worst of the main classic series titles. 3 is where the series really hit its stride, 1 and 2 both felt like they were trying to figure out what worked and what didn't- 3 took the best of everything the NES games had to offer, and 4-6... Yeah, they started to overstay their welcome, but they used a formula that worked. 7 felt very stiff, though it was still an okay game. 8 is actually my favorite as well (yeah, the dub is terrible, but the gameplay is just so smooth and it makes very clever use of the different weapons). 9 and 10 were both good, but again, kind of felt like they were phoning it in by going back to the basics (seriously, he doesn't even have his charge shot?). I've yet to play 11.
As someone who can't help but be fond of X6, of all things... I know how this is. My only "defense" is that I enjoy interesting games, more than "high-quality" ones, up to a point. Also, I adore Grenade Man, I don't know why.
really good video. I've always thought megaman 8 was pretty but as someone who got into megaman around when she was 12 and finally played them them all (except 7 I got distracted) last year I do not have the skill for it especially that second jump slide slide jump jump. I was genuinely curious why it was on your favorite games list in the Q&A video and I'm glad to know why. oh also I was worried see you in my dreams wasn't gonna make the cut for the video. glad to be wrong.
Funnily enough, I’ve started reading the mega man topics when this vid pop up which is a nice lil treat and def motivate me to try dipping to the mega man games, or at least the world more ^w^ thanks for that!
Because the fanbase are hypocrites as perfectly proven with their 3rd letter 15th letter 3rd letter 11th letter 19th letter 21st letter 3rd letter 11th letter 9th letter 14th letter 7th letter of the trash known as 9!
I'll admit, I had a low key obsession with Tenguman and his design growing up. I also love how both him and Astroman are the only Robot masters to appear in multiple games (8 and Megaman and Bass).
Nah, the REAL reason Mega Man 8 is considered the oddball of the series... is because it's the ONLY game in the series were Mega Man can actually SWIM!
>15 years later >21 year old I remember when I bought the Anniversary Collection in high school. :.) I returned the Gamecube version because the jump and shoot were backwards to how it was using an NES controller and you couldn't remap the buttons. For the record Mega Man 8 is dope as hell and is actually one of my favorites in the whole series. Absolutely LOVE the soundtrack along with Rockman & Bass's which has the same vibe going for it. In fact the whole reason I found your video was because while listening to the soundtrack, as I usually do, when I decided "I wonder if anyone has made videos about MM8" and here we are. Definitely give Rockman & Bass a play when you can. One of the hardest damn games if you play as Rockman though. Speaking on Mega Man 8 some more we can rewind back to 1997 (maybe 98) when I first played it at a party of all places. I can't recall the specifics other than I believe the house belonged to someone influential in our town (politics?) but hell if I remember that unimportant information because all that mattered was the guy's son had THREE+(maybe more?!) TELEVISIONS IN HIS ROOM WITH A DIFFERENT CONSOLE HOOKED UP TO EACH. It's funny because at the time all I could think about how cool that was and not about the inequality- oh well I'm just old and bitter now I guess. Anyhow there was Mega Man 8 on PS1. Fell in love with the game right then and there. Did all I could to save up money and eventually get the game for myself to play on my older brother's PS1. Thankfully he let me. A game developed in Japan in the late 1990s... Absolutely some dudes sleeping on the floor in the office to make this game. At least that made an impact on multiple generations and hopefully more to come. Game is a work of art. JUMP JUMP. SLIDE SLIDE.
Honestly I love this! Though I don't feel the same way about 8 I completely understand and respect how you feel and your opinion, I end up feeling the same about Megaman X5, which objectively isn't a great or even good game, but I have a soft spot for it! So awesome video and I'm gonna give 8 another chance!
Hello. I found your review of MM8 so refreshing. I, too, adore MM8 but it was so hard to find anyone who loved it for the same reasons I had until I saw your video. I really love your voice too. I had to literally search for the specific words "Mega Man 8 is good" to find your video. You've won me over as a subscriber. Yes, MM8 is good because of its aesthetics. The animations are so pretty and the soundtrack is dope. I don't understand why so many people overlook these two things so often. Thank you so much for appreciating the heart and sweat that came into making this game.
The first MegaMan i played was 8, and i felt in love with it. After some time i played MegaMan&Bass, i loved the idea of being able to play with bass, also i had that feeling of replayability thanks to the 2 character mechanic. After some point i played the X saga and after a few years i played the classics, and yeah, they are quite an experience. But i cant help to thank the vibe, ambiance, the feeling of using some of the power ups and destroying some of the stage things and enemies in 8 and m&b. They really put the heart in the game, i feel 8, X4 and megaman 2 are my top 3 favorite megaman games by a long shot
MM8 is one of my absolute favorites... But after thinking about the awesome music (especially the stage select) slowly but surely two words rise from the background until they overwhelm my memories... JUMP! JUMP! SLIDE! SLIDE!
Same but for Mega Man 7, I could never put into words why I didn't like MM7 all that much, but it's certainly because of the slower and more sluggish movement compared to the 8-bit games.
i love these types of videos!! i was so excited to see this in my recommended i watched the whole thing despite me knowing a smidge about mega man let alone 8 lmao. please do more!! 💕
Since I started with X1 to X4 and then played 8, I was probably the oddball that's disappointed that old Megaman looks like it does. Also Dr. Lights voice is the best. 😂 I'm also probably the oddball for saying this, but, if every Megaman (1-11) were all made to look like 11. I would buy that on the spot. I just like 7 8 11 a lot more.
Brazilian here... Mega Man 8 along with 6 are my favorites... Here in Brazil, there was a lot of piracy so, without knowing it and wanting to, I played the Japanese version of the 8 first... When my friend and I saw the game for the first time... We were fascinated... The graphics... the music... the gameplay... yeah... even though I've played every game up to that point... frankly speaking I didn't have any difficulty playing it... for me the first time I played it I took control, Mega Man was already part of my body... Yes... I was VERY addicted to games at that time and for me those gameplay difference things didn't even cross my mind... it was a new game and a new challenge... simple as that!! For me this game is a work of art!! Always was and always will be... Without a doubt the most beautiful game graphically speaking and for me the most fun of all... along with 6!! I loved your video and I already subscribed to the channel!! A kiss from Brazil!!
MM8's probably my favorite classic Mega Man too, and I feel basically exactly the same way you do about it. It's super cool to see this, because I feel like there's so few people who actually have opinions on the game aside from "lol funny meme voice acting" Excellent video!!
this was great! and ye you saying that the level design just does whatever it wants is kind of a selling point for me too, i love when games just put effort in bizarre things like detail animations and interactions of a one use enemy. Shoutout Gimmick
This is one of my favorite Mega Man games, as a kid I loved to replay the stages even if I already beat them, just to listen to the cool soundtrack and sometimes trying to get all the bolts that I missed
THANK YOU for talking about the voice acting!!! The world WOULD be worse off if The Room was """"better acted"""" The cutscenes make the game memorable! It has an identity! I don't remember ANY of the acting from 11 but the lines from 8 are burned into my brain. Zany "bad" performances can be a fingerprint and entertaining. I think it contributes to the game's aesthetic. It's so easy to do lame criticism of "man this shouldve had better voice acting" for what purpose? so you could get pulled into the ~drama~ of "dr wily's back go stop him." nah, gimme 8 and X4's performances any day. Great video!
The problem is I hate when stuff I like has terrible aspects. Like I hate the voice acting for SOTN and Mega Man because I legitimately love and am somewhat interested in their lore/stories, and it sucks to see it treated worse than it deserves. I don't mind it in The Room because it's not a detriment in that movie. It is for game series I love. Call that taking it too seriously, I don't really care, but being bad is not a personality trait, it's just being bad.
I played the heck out of Megaman 8 for the past 2 years, I loved this game and I still do even if I don't want to revisit it that much now. It still holds a special place in my heart. The soundtrack is a 10, the visuals is a 10, the atmosphere and the vibes that it gives off are something no other game could give. The gameplay might be rough around the edges and not much satisfying but that's why I love this game the way it is
My problem with 8 was the angled perspective on all the platforms. You always had a vague idea where the ground was but never the exact plane where the ground and character meet. The more sluggish game play made it so this wasn't to bad of an issue but it was just distracting every time I jumped. Still a very fun video.
I love your sense of humor, you’ll go a while without any gags and then hit me out of nowhere with the fuckin “juj” at 32:25 and it’s so stupid but absolutely cracks me up
it really hurts when I see all that gameplay and hear all that background music and think "hey I remember that" and I realize I'm actually really into Megaman i never really thought about it huh
This video was lovely biz. Love listening to people talk about their favorite games in all forms. Mine is final fantasy 8 and its quite flawed and yet i will always love it forever. Its funny how many 8s in series are strange black sheeps and yet are also cool
The problem the plagued Mega Man 8 was it came out during the time of Sega Saturn & Play Station. Console that focused a lot on the visual graphics and being able to make things more detailed. It was also the reason that Mega Man Legends was created, because Capcom was not sure if they want to try new 3D game mechanics with the main series that was popular. On top with more power system that you could do more. Much of it was most likely due to having to meet certain expectation by the console companies, while not have the time to properly complete a game. Just like you said, they added more frames in the animation, and that takes time.
I love the sprite art and the hand drawn animated cutscenes. The controls and stage design are a little disappointing, but my god the presentation value is immaculate, especially on the saturn where it had more frames of animation. I really wish that capcom would have been willing to spend the time and money to go all out on the presentation value like this on megaman 11. I really like megaman 11, but it felt a little too safe. Back in the day during the ps1 era when this and x4 came out it really felt like capcom was putting everything they had into the visual presentation of both games. Nowadays we are lucky if we can get something made on a teeny tiny budget.
I just played the game for the first time, and... I don't get it. Kinda. Like, I can see why this is most people's least favorite entry in the Classic Series, but for me it was pretty fun. The only gimmick I outright didn't like was the Snowboarding sections in Frost Man and Wily Stage 1 (seriously, I died like 12 freaking times in the latter one), but other than that, it's a solid game. I like the graphics, love the music and atmosphere, and I think the game provides a fair amount of challenge. It's far from being my favorite Mega Man game, but I don't think it's bad either. Overall, it was a fun game.
Banger video as always!!! I have a soft spot for 8 so the plot twist where you loved it was a pleasant surprise even though I was completely fine with the criticism section too😂 Megaman and Bass is so fun, I consider it one of my favorites of the classic series!!! You gotta play it 👀 I feel like if you like 8, you’ll really like MM&B!! Also take this info with a grain of salt, but I’ve heard that the voice actors for 8 were given scripts that still had the Japanese names for the characters which is what led to the infamous “W-megaman” stutter from Light, I guess he was about to say Rockman 😂
i liked the part with the sexy woman who mentioned the moai head
i dont like her because she made a terrible joke at the end!
@@HYPNOBUGS you gave into splat ghoulie before me, dont even lie to me

I really liked that part too :)
Megaman 8 graced us with the deeply written and masterfully voiced line of dialogue "I'm Aquaman but you can call me handsome guy" and for that, we salute it
Indeed
My personal favorite line is "That's a Good Question"
The line "but I've never seen this type on earth" is burned in my brain
I need context for that line, PLEASE 😭

The Robot Masters have so much personality in this game. Whether it’s Clownman’s smug quips, Aquaman’s obnoxious little brother energy, or Astroman having a full on panic attack during his fight, it really adds to 8’s vibe.
ARE YOU WORTHY OF MY CHALLENGE??????????????????????????
Or how my personal favorite, Grenade Man, is a masochist. Seriously, his "That felt good!" Death Quote lives in my head rent free.
Absolutely, astro man is great being the complete nervous wreck that he is during the boss fight, and sword man acting all chivalrous and honorable by quoting how he's just doing his job, his death quote complimenting mega man "nice shot"
Astroman is just suicidal.
Yo, geeky!
Holy cow. The edgy sword robot actually says "Nothing personal." I can't get over that.
played the japanese version of the game, so the voice acting was audibly good to me and eletricial communication was on my mp3 playlist always. (even though I've no idea what they're talking, and also just being a mystery with the shop item usage). 8 was also my fav too as I found it "hard" to get back to the older megaman games apart from 7.

So.. Megaman animation next? Something about Rock doing a sentai henshin sequence into Rockman? Just kidding
@@enriquejoseantequerasanche6180 I mean, Sageman already exists so…
I love this game to death but yeah I remember the cutscenes looking really cool but the VA almost break the immersion. Thankfully the legacy collection includes the Japanese version which is a day and night difference I can't play this or X4s Western version ever again. The art style was awesome the sprites and animations were solid and it was fun albeit frustrating at times. I know the RUclipsr isn't really a fan of the art style but if you grew up in the 90s this was the time anime was really taking off in the states so for us growing up during this time it was dope.

i'll never forget how this game went out of its way to put more of a focus on the story only to name the evil energy source and main plot device, quite literally, "evil energy". it has had no other canon name.
dr light was running short on time when he came up with the name
i have better idea for the name: Dark Energy. gets to the point without sounding wierd.
@@JezElectro13 yeah thats like literally the same thing fam
@@ZeeTee20 that isn't. Evil is when someone is bad, Darkness however, is negative to Light, not Evil.
Then the energy is called Alien Energy.
These were all fairly big reasons why 9 and 10 went all the way back to NES visuals, though I would also say that those games missed a few of the fundamentals of 1-6 in their own way.
dudeee sameee
Same. I still regard it as one of my favorites while my least liked being 7.
@@Darknight0681 Eh....the reason 9 and 10 did that was purely because of nostalgia.
Universally disliked? It's not that disliked though.
Clownman's Trick
Get Stockholm syndrome'd
The Anniversary Collection of Mega Man 8 is a bad port of the PlayStation version, so it makes sense that you disliked it back then.
@@extremekiwi101 I can't believe I read that as Clownman's dick...

i adore hearing people talk about bad games in a positive light. like "this is bad, but here's why i love it". a++ video would watch again
I mean... I wouldn't call Megaman 8 a bad game by any stretch.
Mega Man 8's not a bad game...although it's certainly a step down from Mega Man 7, which is easily the best game in the Classic series next to Mega Man 10.
@@smashmaster521 I personally didn't care too much for MM7. I mean, I did play it, but it never stuck with me like MM6 did.

One of my favorite innovations from this game, that for whatever reason, never made a return, is the ability to always utilize the Mega Buster, regardless of which weapon or item you've got equipped. Why hasn't Capcom brought this feature back?
the alternate charge buster options were also really cool (not exactly balanced though)
@@jess648 very true.
I’m not as passionate for classic mega man as I used to, but 8 is one of the few I still find interest in revisiting. It’s just so funky and absurd that I can’t help but come back to it. Also aqua man and clown man are the fruitiest robot masters ever, I adore their vibes so much.
I think Astro Man takes the cake for fruity robot masters… 🍎 🍌
Im with you on liking this despite its shortcomings. The games chock full of 90's charm even if the rubbery animation does get in the way of the game feel and some pf the sfx can get too cutesy. Its the same reason why I still hold Mega Man & Bass close to my heart along with the collectible cd bios.
Hope you do more videos like this even if it isnt about the mm series.
I really love this video. There are so many franchises where my favorite iteration of it is objectively one of the worse ones and this not only validated me, but gave me so much energy. It is so fun hearing you gush about things you love!
Megaman 8 was my first Mega Man game, and after replaying them all I think 8 might still be my favorite. The vibe is too amazing and nonstalgic
Megaman X6 is the same for me. It has a lot of good ideas just poorly executed, and it's a shame they never tried them again. I really appreciate the ideas regardless and love that game.
@@Handles_be_dumb I love X6 for what it is - a broken mess with some really cool but poorly executed ideas. Plus a 100% awesome soundtrack.
"validated" grow up or grow a spine lmao
I mean I'd still say out of the 11 numbered games 1-3 are objectively worse. Play through Doc Robot stages or Ice Man's stage and tell me those games don't have faults
Heck Yeah! It wasn't the original Mega Man series, but my absolute favorite games growing up was the Mega Man Starforce series. It's very different to the main series, taking more of an rpg take. I highly recommend if you haven't played
I've been going through a sudden phase of me replaying Mega Man 8 again recently so it genuinely makes me glad to see other people also loving it for what it is
One thing I absolutely love about it has to be the overall character design of the Robot Masters (Also Duo) of this game. They're all so simple yet complex at the same time that leads to them all scratching my brain a special way that makes me very happy, same goes for the art direction and all the silly little cutscenes
Thank you very much for making this, very fun to watch, and I hope you have a good day!
Edit/update on this that I feel like is good to mention since I'm watching this video again [6/7/2023]:
I got my boyfriend to play through all of this game and he just finished it about an hour or so ago! He may not like the game (or the Mega Man series as a whole because he's not good at it), but it still makes me happy that he at least tried and I am very proud of him for playing it all the way through without quitting and never touching it again
We now mutually bully each other by calling each others favourite games bad it's great
I do spriting and code work for a fighting game celebration of the series called Mega Man Arena, and we added sword man about a year ago.
I also know more about the first half of sword's stage than anyone else in the world I'm pretty sure
Did you know that basically every weapon can hit the floating ball in the tengu part of sword's stage except for specifically:
Rush bike bullets
Rush carpet bomb
Arrow shot
Flash Bomb
Astro Crush
And, for some reason, Water balloon
Why these exceptions can't hit it but Flame Sword itself can, is beyond me
I have been burdened with this knowledge and I must spread it to the masses.
@@phase623 Thanks, I too am now burdened with this deep knowledge, and must now spread it like a virus to the world!
As a sucker for high quality pixel animation, Mega man 8 definitely roped me in with that alone.
Time to enjoy a Bizabizow video about something I know nothing about
you should give the series a try, the games are really good
id really recommend the first mega man x game for snes. that game has aged insanely well, the gameplay is great, the levels are well-designed, everything just clicks into place perfectly. it also has some of the best music and sound design ive ever heard in a video game. you can get it on modern consoles as part of the x legacy collection, which also includes x2, 3 and 4 (also great games). i might be a bit biased, since this was one of my favorite childhood games, and as such i have a huge amount of nostalgia for it, but i genuinely think x1 is one of the best games ever made, and i think its one every gamer should play through at least once.
2:28 as someone who exclusively watched normal boots back in the early 2010s this joke hit me like a ton of bricks
I love 8 mostly because it's my introduction to the series when I was a kid, and that the colors really popped out. Also knowing there's another Clown Man enjoyer makes my brain go :o)
:oD
SAME!!!
This is my favorite mega man game of the whole franchise as well!!!!
9:38 This just makes me realize we need more bosses with goofy one-liners as their entrances
This was my childhood, nothing else comes close to the megaman anniversary collection
i remember as a kid who also had the anniversary collection, 8 was my absolute favourite because it was the only one that i could actually beat
that "semi-isometric view" that you wanted a name for is called "2.5 D" and is an actual sub-sub-genre of platforming games.
Overall, I agree with almost everything you've said about the game
*except it being your favorite and your thoughts on clown man's stage, I still think you're crazy for that*
Yeah, because unlike the English VA, the Japanese VAs aren't annoying to listen to.
I genuinely love Megaman 8 too. It was the first in the “Original” series I played and made me the Megaman fan I am today.
Plus it serves him right for coming down just to taunt you anyway
all us mega man 8 enjoyers are still slide slide jump jumping in our dreams to this day
31:28 you can hold up on the dpad while you kick it to make the Megaball go at a more upward angle. It makes the boss fight alot easier
You should give 11 a shoot it has the best level designs out of the classic series
@@Just_a_teddy_bear I certainly will eventually. But it's just a question of how much of a backlog I already have.
Mega Man 5 is definitely worse than the first two games. And getting rid of the charge shot was a good choice
@@thomasffrench3639For me: 4 > 3 > 5 > 6 > 2 > 1

I returned the Gamecube version because the jump and shoot were backwards to how it was using an NES controller and you couldn't remap the buttons.

Glad to see another Clown Man enjoyer

You basically said all the things I thought about this game that I couldn't put into words.
Same but for Mega Man 7, I could never put into words why I didn't like MM7 all that much, but it's certainly because of the slower and more sluggish movement compared to the 8-bit games.

Since I started with X1 to X4 and then played 8, I was probably the oddball that's disappointed that old Megaman looks like it does.
Also Dr. Lights voice is the best. 😂
I'm also probably the oddball for saying this, but, if every Megaman (1-11) were all made to look like 11.
Fun fact, that trumpet MM8 loves is also in sonic mania, specifically in Mirage Saloon act 2
MM8's probably my favorite classic Mega Man too, and I feel basically exactly the same way you do about it. It's super cool to see this, because I feel like there's so few people who actually have opinions on the game aside from "lol funny meme voice acting"
Excellent video!!
Hearing someone saying that these games weren't accessible to children almost sent me into a boomer style "IN MY DAY" speech.
this was great! and ye you saying that the level design just does whatever it wants is kind of a selling point for me too, i love when games just put effort in bizarre things like detail animations and interactions of a one use enemy. Shoutout Gimmick
This is one of my favorite Mega Man games, as a kid I loved to replay the stages even if I already beat them, just to listen to the cool soundtrack and sometimes trying to get all the bolts that I missed
THANK YOU for talking about the voice acting!!! The world WOULD be worse off if The Room was """"better acted""""
The cutscenes make the game memorable! It has an identity! I don't remember ANY of the acting from 11 but the lines from 8 are burned into my brain. Zany "bad" performances can be a fingerprint and entertaining. I think it contributes to the game's aesthetic. It's so easy to do lame criticism of "man this shouldve had better voice acting" for what purpose? so you could get pulled into the ~drama~ of "dr wily's back go stop him."
nah, gimme 8 and X4's performances any day.
Thank you for sticking up for one of my fav MM games! This absolutely blew me away when it came out!
why think about an alternate universe of Clown man being a Tumblr sexyman, when we can make that reality in this universe

it really hurts when I see all that gameplay and hear all that background music and think "hey I remember that" and I realize I'm actually really into Megaman
i never really thought about it
huh
Except that X4 feels great to play.
Omg she's talking into a Gatorade bottle let's goooooooo
I love the sprite art and the hand drawn animated cutscenes. The controls and stage design are a little disappointing, but my god the presentation value is immaculate, especially on the saturn where it had more frames of animation. I really wish that capcom would have been willing to spend the time and money to go all out on the presentation value like this on megaman 11. I really like megaman 11, but it felt a little too safe. Back in the day during the ps1 era when this and x4 came out it really felt like capcom was putting everything they had into the visual presentation of both games. Nowadays we are lucky if we can get something made on a teeny tiny budget.
Good on you for finding enjoyment in something most people seem to look past.
8 has always been one of my favorites too!
This feels like it has Rayman 1 as part of its core aesthetic DNA.
The soundtrack in this game is GOATED
Banger video as always!!! I have a soft spot for 8 so the plot twist where you loved it was a pleasant surprise even though I was completely fine with the criticism section too😂
Megaman and Bass is so fun, I consider it one of my favorites of the classic series!!!
27:44 that was adorable i now love them
"This isn't a joking matter." Said Clown Man
