I’ve been the voice actor for Jet the Hawk in the SonicSong182 series for many, many years. It always warms my heart to see the impact that channel has had on so many people. I always associate the stage select theme with that channel too, so I’m really glad to hear it resonated with you so much.

You can blame the lack of saturn emulation (from an official standpoint) for that. Not helping was Saturn console source code being lost as well iirc. Well one can hope they do figure out a way to bring back saturn titles (and dreamcast as well)

Saturn had highly unique architecture which means most of the stuff thats stuck on Saturn is there for good, I personally bought an inexpensive Saturn and a Pseudo Saturn Kai so I can just burn games to CD and play whatever the system has to offer instead of shelling out thousands for the more rare games like Panzer Dragoon Saga
I greatly recommend it if you're interested in the system and appreciate playing on original hardware.

That voice actress deserves the world for her level of cultural understanding. Bomberman has a similar vibe. Characters are genderfied but the core concept of being a “bomberman” seems similar to being a reploid/robot.

For Japanese -man, they didn't "import it weirdly" it first of all already existed independent of the English meaning of "man". SECONDLY, it IS the actual english definition as a pun with Japanese, that's why there's "pikesman" and "WO-man". Western world abandoned the actual meaning.
Weird sexist stuff started really taking up in 1800's English-speaking world, where by the time of abolition of teaching Latin grammar completely severed any understanding of the average person how English syntax works AT ALL. Because England always was a Roman colony that utterly failed to invent a native script, like Korean Hangul or phonetic diacritics. English, where you can write "I present you a present in the present" has NO bearing on which pronunciations you mean, is a really damaging, half a real language.
You won't get far when your grammar is heavily based on Urban dictioanry "clever" portmanteaus, and attempts to memorize meanings of emoji for tiktok because you don't EVEN have Chinee Hanzi symbols to perform that function. I peresent👌 you this present🍆 in the present🤡🌏
Genders were invented in biology in 1950's by john Money when the CENSORING of the word "sex" and "pregnant" were en vogue on the TV. It's not "weird" in language: that linguistic one IS the meaning of "gender". In English it's euphemism. You live a complete false history. And gender simply splits words in groups so that when you start a word with one of THREE options, you can remember the word that follows from there three times as easily. In English when noun can start with a random letter out of 26, those are ALL possible genders, and you struggle to remember if a word is spelled pretext of pertext.

From my understanding, this is the reason why _Sonic Jam_ was created. Few people in Japan knew of the _Sonic_ series due to the Mega Drive not catching on there, so Sonic Team made a collection to show them *why* they were called "Sonic Team".

    • @CarbonRollerCaco

@@AztyphIt was inevitable tho; Super Mario All-Stars existed, so it was only natural Sonic would follow suit. But since Sega was mainly pushing themselves as an arcade company in Japan, few there gave a damn about their home stuff, so neither Sonic Jam nor the Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast helped the franchise there. It also didn't help that, despite the Japanese lore being correct for the pre-2010s games even though English is the series's canonical main in-world language, early JP marketing pushed the "cute" side of Sonic WAY more than its "cool" side-the opposite problem of the Western marketing-when Sonic's "cool" and "cute" should be about 2:1. A shame that Mega Man 11 squandered its potential in that regard. The games are designed to be replayed in different orders for new experiences, so comboing that with a system where you have to choose what you want is nice, and encourages experimentation for later runs. It also does wonders for exploration. Every shop bolt is the equivalent of finding a Beat Letter, but now there's 40. That's a lot of opportunities for exploration and challenges!

Fair enough about the critiques about the player growth for the boss rush. I personally find it works well for a 2D action platformer, especially one in this early stage in gaming. I personally find the boss rush fun, because I find it challenging. I'm happy you acknowledged that and gave good reasons for feeling that way. I think that if you don't know the weakness order, it makes it really satisfying to have all of their weaknesses to beat them. I think going in boss order takes that away.
That being said, it does hurt replayability, and I think that's the major flaw of the boss rush.

    • @WhiteFangofWar
      @WhiteFangofWar 5 месяцев назад +2

It should at least be in its own separate stage like in MM3/6. That way you're not forced to re-do it if you game over on Wily, which you're likely to do since he's supposed to be the hardest challenge.

    • @Rationalific
      @Rationalific 5 месяцев назад +2

I think that a boss rush should be a separate mode that appears after beating the game. When it's a mandatory part of every playthrough, it feels like "filler" and just boring repetitive stuff to go through when trying to get to the end boss. However, when it's split out into a new mode after beating the game, it feels like an "extra/bonus/omake". And you can play it at will and not be forced into it. That one thing by itself can really feel mentally different based on whether it's mandatory every playthrough or a bonus one gets by beating the game, I feel.

SCEA supposedly did have a policy against 2D games, but it was only enforced for the first year of the PS1's release and loosely at that. Games like Rayman and the PS1 port of Mortal Kombat 3 were _huge_ exceptions to the rule, so I don't think it was ever that firm of a policy. I haven't found anything about difficulties or drama between Capcom and SCEA for this period. Not even as it pertains to Resident Evil 2, which was said to have been the game Capcom got up in arms about the "no 2D" policy at SCEA over, even though it released in 1998 which is _well_ outside of that policy's period of relevance, and also notably after multiple Mega Man games had released in the US.
If anything, it seems like Sega of America were the ones to cause issues. Bernie Stolar is a factor for both SCEA and SoA, and one thing he did with the Saturn was try to "salvage" it which no doubt involved harshly limiting Capcom's ability to release games on the platform, and it's likely that the reason why Capcom didn't continue to do arcade ports on the Saturn was because SoA all but shut down the Saturn following 1998. I could see Capcom trying to pull a hail mary on SoA to make a case for changing course on the Saturn, leveraging the potential of RE2 on the platform. However, unlike the SCEA story, it fails and SoA's policy doesn't really change. Later, the majority of Capcom's output on Dreamcast ends up the same as it was on the Saturn: Mostly arcade ports and a scarce amount of original titles.

Hey J, I know you're not the biggest fan of these Boss Rushes, but here's my take on how I would go about it if I were to develop a Mega Man game. 🙂
If I gotta put the Boss Rush in there, I can add it as its own stage rather than having it there BEFORE facing off with Dr. Wily. I would make it that Wily has his own 5th Stage so whenever you get a Game Over, you don't have to do the boss rush.
As for the Boss Rushes themselves, I would've liked it if the Bosses mixed up their patterns in their Rematch. If Wily rebuilt them (or they're just hologram copies, I dunno), it shows that the Robot Master wanted to try something different to take down Mega Man. Like for example, maybe Tengu Man will take less time on the ground so you have to be quick enough to use Ice Wave on him, or Clown Man will use Thunder Claw in a different way rather than from the ground, Aqua Man will use a Tidal Wave, or Astro Man making illusions of himself to trick you or something. These are just little ideas I wanted to share.

I used to be very harsh about this game for a lot of the same concerns that people will typically point out, plus I had personal gripes with the slow walking movement and the damage output for the weapons. But finally beating 8 on the Legacy Collection a month ago helped soften my opinion a bit to say that it’s not rock bottom on my personal tier list anymore. The soundtrack is great for remixes, the Buster/weapon mechanic is neat, and the animated montage for the intro is awesome! Plus seeing speedrunners use Mega Ball tech is fun to watch.

I believe a good Mega Man boss rush is one of two things. First way I like it, spread it between different stages like first Classic and X games. A simple way to break up the pace. Alternatively, take the Mega Man X2 approach and make the bosses more difficult, whether it be by modifying boss AI, the arena, or maybe both. In the latter case, I also like it being in a different stage to the final boss, though I definitely would be in for a lesser fortress boss to appear after a teleporter room. Something like Wily Press in Mega Man 5, for instance, which is a prelude to Wily Machine 5 next level.

Mega Man 8 was also initially going to be fully Saturn exclusive. As such, it is one of the very rare cases of the PSX being a port rather than the other way around. Sony was willing to be much more reasonable, despite it being a 2D game. Though Capcom still kept some bonus content on the Saturn in a show of goodwill toward SEGA. It shows how much pressure Sony felt from SEGA of America than their Japanese branch. They knew how much they saved the Mega Drive.
Sure makes you wish they had rebuilt SotN from the ground up for the Saturn. It had so much potential to utilize the great features the sprite engine has. Mega Man 8 is that nice future where the Saturn got to show off the goods and did so with flying colors.

I'm not sure I beleive the "No 2D" policy Sony had was real. Rayman was a launch title for the console in North America, and Street Fighter Alpha and Darkstalkers were also very early games for the system in America as well, before Mega Man 8.

Yeah it was real. That guy Bernie Stolar I think was responsible. He did the same thing on the Saturn after he took over Sega US around the mid 90s, and the Saturn infamously only got 25% of the full library of games in the US partly because of that.

Sony America's draconian licensing rules for most of the PS1's life were VERY well-documented back in the day. They weren't very controlling in the first days of the system, but once they actually got a foot in the door they started working very hard to manage their image.

More on the music, Mega Man 8 uses the onboard sound chip found on the PS1 and Saturn as opposed to using red book audio like Mega Man X4 did. The one on the Saturn is more advanced than the one on the PS1, so that’s why a lot of tracks sound different between the two, and Tengu Man in particular getting completely different tracks between the two.

Apparently, the anti-2D sentiment stopped because Capcom held Resident Evil 2 for ransom unless they let them release 2D games. Which is so badass. EDIT: This is apparently incorrect, sorry for spreading misinformation.
And nowadays, there’s a backlash against this idea and people shit on great early 3D games like Resident Evil and Mario 64 as “dated” but they don’t seem to do the same to dated 2D games like Castlevania 4 or Mega Man 7. At least in my opinion, it’s all subjective.

Never beat this game because of the STUPID delayed hover board, in Wiley's stage one! Tried when I was 8 & agin at 28. It's impossible the game is broken right there lol. Although I hear this is not an issue on the Saturn version.

Wily stage one is definitely a tough wall to get over, but I was able to do it as a kid on PS1. I dunno how big the delay is between versions so I can't speak on that. But if you're trying to get through the final stretch after a lot of the slide portions are over, you can cheese a few AstroCrushes to stay airborn till you run out of energy. I found it helpful back in the day at least.
I'd give it another shot, bet you'll manage it. Then good luck on the boss tactics lol.

MegaMan 8 is really fun to play and the anime cutscenes back then made me interested in playing it, similar to Sonic CD's intro and ending.
I'm fine with the lower difficulty, micromanaging bolts is silly enough and the snowboard section is kinda hard the first time.
As someone who'se not a native English speaker, I found MegaMan's and the other voices to be good and never laughed in a bad way about it albeit I can see why people make fun of it now.
Didn't know that interview either. Crazy that VA didn't even change her voice for Rock and X judging by the sound of it. What made me curious tho was that the lines were recorded like in the early 90's? What's up with that?

I think this game is probably the worst of the 11 main entries, being really janky, having no option to turn off voices which sometimes are really, REALLY aggravating, unskippable cutscenes that last ages, Clown Man Stage, Astro Man Stage, Astro Man, and the jump slide segments are one of the worst things I've played in any Mega Man game
It's not really a bad game as much as just a lot of what's wrong with Mega Man is present, introduced and sometimes at its worse in this game

NGL. And this is just an idea. If MM8 could be remade. One of the ideas is the board section doesn't have the jump, slide signs. More rather it could be foreshadowed through visuals. Think MMZ2's Train mission. One of the hazards was an arch that the train passes by, it's danger is indicated by lights that indicate the oncoming arch, getting darker in color to symbolise the danger that could happen if you dismass their warnings and you along with any enemy forces you're fighting becomes a collateral casualty. Thus the same effect could be done for a MM8 remake, the jump and slide voice lines could be
recycled/omitted by placing them as literal sign boards warning us as the player for what to do, instead of just telling us verbally, it shows us visually that we should keep in mind what we must do to avoid death.

The controls do bother me a bit, but honestly you get used to it after a stage, I just wish MegaMans model wasn't so soft looking, and his buster, not including the arrow shot, just don't have the same impact as previous games.
