Fallout 4's Next-Gen Update Isn't Free for PS Plus Subscribers - IGN Daily Fix

Fallout 4's much-anticipated next-gen (or rather, current-gen) update went live today, and though it was touted as a free upgrade, some users won't be able to download it without handing over some bottle caps. It seems like PlayStation 4 and 5 owners who downloaded the game when it was free via PS Plus can't download the update unless they pay for the game. Bethesda did mention that the upgrade was free to those who purchased the game, either physically or digitally, and technically PS Plus subscribers didn't outright pay for their copies. However, Game Pass subscribers aren't having the same issues, but that's likely because Microsoft owns Bethesda now, and Bethesda games are just included with Game Pass subscriptions. In other Fallout news, be wary of any Fallout: New Vegas advice on social media. Veteran players are having a little fun with newbies to the Wasteland by pointing them to spots in the world that new players just should not go to unless they're pretty high level. And finally, Stellar Blade's launch is almost upon us, and you can expect a New Game+ mode on day one.
Update: 04/25 3:41pm ET: A Bethesda Softworks Community Manager posted on the official Bethesda Discord server that the company is still working to resolve the issue for PS Plus owners unable to access the free next-gen update.

In Fallout 3 on low difficulty, deathclaws were pretty easy. In New Vegas, they were deadly on every difficulty.
They're not as bad once you level up a bit and get better gear and weapons. Now, the alpha male and mother, those are awful.
It wouldn't be a Bethesda release if it didn't come with a bug.
1:25 Sony themself said even before you posted this video that they know it's a bug on their end, and they are working on it. As of a few hours ago, some PS+ users in Europe via the Fallout subreddit are saying they can download it just fine on their PS5 via PS+. So they seem to slowly be fixing it... whatever it was.
Didn't the ps plus issue also happen with final fantasy 7 and upgrading to the ps5 version

Which year/month was Fallout 4 part of PS Plus ?
Some time in November around PS5’s first year before the PS+ subscription service was separated into three different tiers, it seems those of us that got the game free through the “essential collection” will not get the update unless we upgrade our subscription tier from Essential to either Extra or Premium, this isn’t confirmed just what me and many others have landed on based on how poorly this whole thing is being handled by both Sony and Bethesda
Edit: As of April 29th it seems owners of the “collection” version of the game now have the update as well.
it was added to the ps+ collection when the ps5 launched in november 2020.
Why are we celebrating ng+ being available as something special?

Oh that's simple, it's available on Day 1 instead of Day 69.
It might be a bug, but with Bethesda being owned by Microsoft, you'd almost think it's intentional, lol.

It didn't give me this problem.
It’s currently 4:18 on the west coast and it’s fixed for me currently downloading the ps5 standard edition on my ps5 with just ps plus on my account without owning it. 🎉
This seems to only be true if you have a PS+ Extra subscription or Premium and not for those who got the game “free” when it was was part of the “essential collection” before the subscription service was separated into three tiers
Edit: As of April 29th it seems as though even the “collection” version of the game now has the updated as well.

@kingkobrasgaming1241 Yes, they could be doing that; because there is two kinds of update on the Playstation. One is a standard update for the PS4, and the other is the next gen update to make it into the PS5 version, which you have to select separately.

Finaly working for me! Living in Norway. Currently downloading the ps5 standard edition on my ps5 . Have ps premium on my account without owning it.
You can actually download it if you go to product and check versions.

It's in 4K now, if that's what you mean. If you want updated textures, lighting, and character models that actually reflect modern day technology, then no. This is a Bethesda game. It was never gonna have those things lol

PS4 versions have an update that came out today as well. The PS5 version isnt an update you have to download its own version of the game.

This news is WRONG.. It's an error, and it's already been fixed. IGN, fix your video description, or simply remove this video. ALSO, it's not a "MAJOR UPDATE!" It's a framerate increase. Saying that is going to make people expect improved lighting and textures, improved graphical assets, volumetric weather effects, Ray Tracing, HDR, Dolby Atmos, etc.. No. It's just a frame rate increase. So, it's closer to the old PC release.
