Fallout: London is a DLC-sized mod for Bethesda’s Fallout 4. As a continuation of the base game, the mod will allow the player to visit the previously unexplored post-apocalyptic environment of London.
As a divergence from previous official titles in the series, Fallout: London is not set in America. Visiting a totally new setting allows for us to explore totally new cultures which have not homogenized with their American counterparts. It also allows us to explore pre-war European history, and the effects the Resource Wars had on the class structured society of pre-war Britain.
Team FOLON® operates as an independent entity responsible for the development of the Fallout: London mod for Bethesda's Fallout 4™ game. We want to emphasize that Team FOLON® is a separate legal entity from Bethesda™, the publisher of Fallout 4™.

f4se script extender needs to work. Otherwise it won't even turn on the mods.
The people who are in charge of the script extender, we're counting on them. The games life is in their hands.
Man this shit hurts to hear I was so hyped for fallout London and here comes Bethesda I appreciate the update but most people play fallout again because they 1 love it or 2 love it and want more with mods

Damn, we gotta get in contact with the creators of the script extender.
With SKSE Bethesda has been providing them the update ahead of time so they can drop the updated script extender at the same time as the update. Here's hoping that's happened with F4SE as well.
Why are you guys acting as if the creators dont pay attention? They always update it. Everytime. They dont even take long. shit, theyre still doing it for F3 and new vegas. And if they dont? Someone else will. Stop being so scared, it is pathetic.

Why are you blaming Bethesda? The mod team shouldn't be surprised about this. It's their fault for not planning ahead. It's not Bethesda's job for modders to release a mod in their own time.

This sucks. The devs actually got 3 well known celebrities from the UK to voice main characters, Matt Smith, Katie McGrath and Rebecca Hall where the ones that were currently confirmed. Rumor had it Emilia Clarke might of had a character in the mod.

Well, that kind of worked. Had to pre-package creation club mods into a "bundle" and sell Skyrim as a new version a few times to get people to buy the game again. Though either way it worked. Now lets try something more ambitious.
Bethesda:

Starfield! We will spend tons of money on advertising, and then most of the rest on executive salaries. Don't worry, we will use the reputation built around our past games to sell this one in droves. A tiny hit to our brand name won't stop these suckers from Simping for their nostalgia. Just look at CP2077, lying is hugely profitable.

Fair enough, there just pay pigs anyways. No point in treating them like people.

I’d argue you should release the mod anyways. I know for a fact I won’t be updating to the next gen update as over half the mods I use are abandoned by their developers. This means that if I update, my entire modlist will have to be scrapped because most of it will never be updated. I WANT to stay on the old version so it would be nice to release the mod for pre-next Gen and post-next gen. THAT is the best experience for me and many others.
Very much this; if they don't release a non-update version, would force anyone who wants to play it to abandon any modlists they've already got - or worse, go through the update/rollback rigmarole everytime you wanna use a different one - and I've put literal days of my life into every single one (though you'd never tell from how well they play, lol)
And all for what, some crappy CC content I don't want anyway, that won't even be in the _total conversion_ mod, and the widescreen equivalent of the High Resolution Texture Pack everyone will tell you to never, ever, use?
Same here, I don't plan to update either.
I may be as a conspirator here, and I hope I'm wrong, really hope, but it's starting to seem like the FO London team really are not considering it as an option, which is weird. Maybe they're using the situation to buy them some time to flash the mod out, and blame on Bethesda. Because, the fact is, the "next-gen" update is broken, Bethesda won't stop releasing updates for a long time now, and who to say that they will stop, adding content to FO4 after the huge interest in it after the Show. The guy on the vid said that he wants everyone to play the mod and not everyone will want to go through the steps of removing the update, but men, its just another step, if the person has enough insight to go through a mod manager, read the installations instructions, why the hell that same person can't just follow one more step and remove an update. Thing is, it is really odd that they are not considering it as an option, I may be off here, but it seems like the easy one for short, medium and long term, IF they really want to get this thing out sooner rather than MUCH later.
You wouldn't want to play it in the state that it's in.

This labour of love is gonna be a bit late due to unforeseen circumstances? That's perfectly fine and reasonable to me, take your time and make this perfect. We all have been "Okay" with broken releases; the last thing I want is this project to do the same mistake. It also gives me time to save up for a proper monitor for this game!
Except that it's already 4 months late due to "world events", next it will be "personal issues", then "unavoidable problems", then "technical difficulties" and who know what next.
@@Ffinity It's almost as if life is complicated, nuanced and has a million different parts happening all at the same time. In the end, this is a FREE mod. The fact that this project is this close to being finished is incredible. I understand being disappointed when expectations are not met, but in the end, we as people who will play this mod, there isn't much we can do but have faith that these people who have spent their free time into a passion project, will deliver what they said they will. Measure your expectations next time.
@@Graive17 I know all of that, I have argued all of that. However, this is not the first delay, this is now almost 7 months overdue and counting. There's always some excuse, and this one was pitiful. This mod just isn't ready. I'm out, it might drop, it might not, who cares!

Bethesda should have packaged their "update" as an official mod on their workplace, plenty of people did not need this, and no one wants their mods to break, really a lose-lose situation that Bethesda is so good at making. That being said, after installing the update on PC, all of my mods seem to have loaded with no conflict, and no individual updates.
For the most part any mods that don't rely on scripting are fine. But anything that relies on F4SE is completely busted. Sadly FOLON is one of those. But on the plus side, the Script Extender maker said he's already working on it, but he doesn't have an ETA.

Anyone who works in software can tell you that any step you add to the user getting your product massively drops the user base.
Releasing it would split the user base and absolutely kill momentum and hype which is one of the most important parts of a game launch and getting widespread adoption.
If you care about Fallout London being enjoyed and known by as many people as possible, you want a unified release.
@cazzah49 I get what you're saying. But considering the comments I've seen on here, the majority are likely to be people who both know how to, and are fine with, downpatching Fallout 4.
It's not that hard, and I've seen people say they don't even want to update Fallout 4.
You guys got this! Delay or not, we’ve got a real gem on our hands, and the team are working so hard to give it to us. The decision is entirely theirs to make, and it was the right one. Bring it on, London ❤

Londoner too and my old street is in the mod so happy to walk around and see it all again, albeit now be8ng after the war.
I understand pushing the launch back until everything can be released. That said, will we still get a "current" build of FO London when it is released? I'm sure there are many people, myself included, that will opt to keep their game downgraded so that they can still access all current mods. It would be a bummer to have to choose between that, or updating and loosing access to all other mods in order to play London.
If they were to release a "current" build, they never would have pretended the next gen update was a problem and instead would just admit they weren't ready.

I'm so sorry your baby is going to be delayed. You guys should also talk to the guys who put out the Novlus modlist for Skyrim. They've made a whole Nolvus specific dashboard for the game that doesn't require Nexus or GOG. I'm pretty sure that silverlock will be working on the new f4se asap. They've always be wonderful at that. So my pristine load of Fallout 4 will wait patiently until everything gets worked out. Goodness knows anyone who plays Bethesda games is used to waiting! :D

I'm willing to bet you guys could include instructions on downgrading the base game like they have for The Midnight Ride modlist. Downgrade the game to the one that works with Fallout London so none of the core systems break, release the mega mod, and work on updating it in the background.
They don’t have anything, that’s why they didn’t even released workshop items unlike Miami or A Better World with the clean wood cabins

From what I understand, the Script Extender team is usually pretty fast with a fix after an update is dropped. It has been a while since the last update (2019 was the last time from what I heard), so this might not be the case this time round. Hopefully, we will see quick results though. Honestly, my heart sank the day of the next gen update announcement as I knew you guys would probably push the release date again.
From memory it wasn't that long, about 4-5 days. I only used F4SE for building, so as long as I don't need it, I can run fine without it.
Sure sure the problem is the vast majority of PC players aren’t going to update to the current update because it adds no significant value and it’s gonna break a lot more Masden just the script extender so follow should just release two versions of the mod those who plan on updating in those who don’t and one versions already done. Problem literally solved and I’m a nobody on the street. Why is it so complicated to y’all
You do realize its not just F4SE that needs updating which will be quick, just like SKSE is, however all the other mods will need to be updated to be compatible. Depends on how fast the modders update there specific mods

It's a free mod the size of a game, they owe you absolutely nothing, have poured thousands of hours into creating it and are doing it for themselves.

Honestly as someone excited for the mod I do wish you would release the current version anyways (Especially when GoG has really easy version control for games you own through it) and work on a next gen update version for later release. But at the same time I know how hostile people can be when something doesn't work and they don't know why.
It's too bad you can't just ship the mod with the important current version Fallout 4 files and call it good without getting slammed with a C&D.
in all honesty they could provide this version to us just make a banner or something with "im aware that my game need to be the pre next gen version" or something... common we are not console peasants we are pc gamers...preventing or reversing the next gen update on pc cant be that difficult
@@Simsonlover222 Doing so requires using command prompt. I can see where they're coming from, they want a clean release. I say this as someone who knows the update reversing process well - expecting the common Steam user to follow directions for command prompt might be a bit too optimistic.
@@jayknox8072 At the same time mods will probably come out pretty quickly that do the version downgrade fairly easily like what happened with Skyrim AE, and Fallout 4 is available on GoG which has a simple option to change what version of the game you want.
Honestly I get the desire for a clean release, especially in a post Frontier modding community, but delaying it has the problem of us not knowing what Bethesda's support plan for the Next Gen update looks like. Everything could be fixed and ready for release only to have the same situation happen cause Bethesda decided to release another update, and this could happen several times.

@@jayknox8072 Preventing Steam game updates is as easy as marking the game's appmanifest file readonly in the windows file explorer.
Downgrading does indeed requires use of Steam's command line interface. But a downgrade guide already exists from the last time, and update broke FO4SE. It just needs to be updated with the new old file ids and will likely "just work" again.
A day or a month. I remain just as interested in checking this out. So much of this stuff is beyond your control and anyone who understands this stuff, understands that. Take whatever time is needed. Don't feel pressured. You've got a lot of people in your corner 😊

As ianpatt has stated "Most of the updates going forward are going to be very uninteresting, with me just watching the forums and other places to see if people are crashing in a way that isn't caused by the vanilla game, maybe doing small fixes like mentioned earlier. Once I find something seriously wrong or something that is impacting plugin authors then I'll put out a new version with the fixes." - is the F4SE version that he released two days ago not working for you guys?
I can't wait for this to be available. After years of on again off again playing FO4 my game has suddenly and it seems spontaneously decided its not going to work anymore (CTD at startup). So it was time for a total clean out of the mod list anyway. Now I've got a reason since I assume pretty much everything will break anyway so I'll just wait until around the end of May when hopefully the latest update is out and all, or most mods are updated for it then I'll give it another run and hope that it can be in London in the very near future!

yeah i dont get the people saying that modders wont update to the next gen update. as if they expect everyone to turn off auto update and just never update. most people will not think about it and be left out if this was the case.

Except, that the update has been known about for a long time, people are even complaining about it being late. The mod is an optional thing that some people think is dead. This is a stupid response. Release on time with a warning. That's the fix.
@@Ffinity sadly, a lot of major modders have done nothing but talk ill of Bethesda helping create these kinds of statements. Not all modders are like this but I think its funny that Bethesda did hire a few that "hated" them for Starfield and their tune changed almost instantly. Most players wouldn't even think this could of been Bethesda being malicious but you get a group of idiots that will. Why drop bombs when hate will do?
@@Crunchymunchysmate I ain't even a modder and I speak ill of Bethesda because of the amount of work I have to do to get mods for fo4vr to work cos the cunts ain't updated it since it came out and until recently I only owned the vr version so I'm just hoping they release the old version of the mod too so i don't have extra work to get it going in vr
They actually do. Releasing a major update to FO4 is more change than I ever expected for such an old game.

Do you plan on updating? because if you play on PC there is literally no point until fought one did this now they’re forcing people to update when they could just release two versions of the game I can tell people didn’t give this much thought.
@@mackdaddypeypey1 I've disabled updates on steam over many years waiting till script extender and mods updated with both Skyrim and Fallout titles. This is the first time hearing a mod cannot go up because of an update. I am curious of changes and/or improvements, but I think I'd have more to do and more fun with Fallout London than the update for PC.
@@mackdaddypeypey1 this is not the norm. most people will have auto update. so for most people it would be broken. for instance ive heard of this mod and thought it looked cool and thought to myself yeah i might play that sometime in the future... in order for me to do that i would have to look for an old version of the game just to play the mod.
folon wants it to be as plug and play and as stand alone as possible. therefor you have to make it work with the new update. also having to run two versions of the mod is way to much work for a small group of volontiers. they will be busy enough with just one version of the game. with future bug fixes and stuff.
Just release it as is for current patch, and work on the other one in the mean time. Many already arent updating anyway.

They are blaming Bethesda and, likewise, put the entire buck on Bethesda to reach out to them and help them, rather than the other way around, which is... How it should be? As a mod creator/developer, you should be going to the game developer if you want some sort of official support.
Likewise, there is legitimately nothing stopping them from releasing for the current version aside from their own pride, which really shouldn't be a factor when they are taking money from people on Patreon specifically for this mod. Assuming every Patron is ONLY at the minimum tier, they are still raking in ~$2,202 USD every month before taxes and fees. That's before factoring in that they have a $100/mo. tier with limited slots that is SOLD OUT.
At the moment, the way this mod is structured is such that a few members of the community are paying for everyone to be able to receive the mod.
I hope this mod can be downloadable in two options- with or without the Next-Gen Update since we've installed other mods that are expectedly not going to work on the next update.
You'll most likely need to start a new mod list tailored for this anyways.
Unfortunately that would be pain in the ass for developers. I don't know how easily they can share fixes between those 2 imaginary versions, but there surely will be issues specific for pre-patch and post-patch versions. So it nearly doubles the effort required to support mod.

I think we all knew that this was coming as soon as we saw the announcement, as much as we didn’t want to admit it, but nevertheless I’m glad the team has made the sensible decision to delay; godspeed with the fixes, and we eagerly await release!

@@azeria1 it was announced in 2022 in the fallout 1 anniversary post in steam or something, they delayed it until now strategically because of the show release and popularity, it’s called common sense, something humanity seems to be loosing
April was a hectic month for a release, with the show alone I had an inkling of some complications. Delays are always tragic, but if it means we get a better game I don't mind the extra wait at all.

Depending how it all goes it might be smart to release a version for both pre and post update. I have a feeling that this will be a thing we see with a lot of mods, much like Skyrim/SE. It depends if there becomes a swath of people that don't like something about the update or not. If it really runs better even on low spec systems it may not be an issue, but if it actually does thing like, use more CPU cores for better performance on new rigs but at the expense of older quad core rigs, there may a be a large group of fans that don't update for years. Seeing as you already have a complete version for current F4, it might be wise to set it aside in case it becomes apparent that having only a next gen version is detrimental to a lot of players.
I am more than certain that this will be worth the wait - and if we Brits are good at one thing, it's waiting in an orderly queue

Just rename your fallout4 folder in steam library to keep your original, download the updated version, and manually switch between the 2 when you want. No need to break anything.

you sound salty as anything, but the dev team wants to give a smooth rollout so everyone can experience the mod at the same time, a bit more of a wait pales in comparison to a fully functional mod that everyone can enjoy without any extra hassle or seeing spoilers online
@@rtanner The issue is that to have all the dependencies mods updated + everything tested to make sure it actually run well without game breaking bugs, it could actually take several months. Unless they want to release the next gen version with disabled feature and unproperly tested. I think he's a bit optimistic about the time to update and test things.

So, I have been playing games in one way or another for nearly 40 years and also a "nuclear nerd". I was always aware of Fallout, I even bought Fallout 3 on ROM disc but never got round to playing it because of life, which is surprising because of my interest in the cold war and living in the shadow of nuclear war.
I have had major spinal surgery recently and found myself watching Fallout on Amazon Prime to pass time. I really enjoyed the series so it has also piqued my interest in the games. Luckily, Steam have a sale on Fallout and have bought 1-4 and New Vegas. So you can imagine how I felt when I found Fallout London. I'm British who likes the subjects involved. I love the Protect and survive music, the Threads references (hope there's a Jimmy or Ruth) and the whole aesthetics of this mod. I will certainly be trying this when it is released. You've found yourself a new subscriber.
The so-called next gen update is out and it adds nothing. No new graphical or engine enhancements. All it has done is break everything. I don't even know why it was released on PC. It's totally unnecessary to anybody who's enhanced or fixed these game issue in the last decade.
You guys should just go ahead and release your mod with the condition to not update the main game or roll back if you have.
As much as it pains me to wait, it's perfectly understandable and reasonable. You're not miracle workers and the entire modding community rests in the hands of regular people with families and jobs that do these mods as passion projects when they have time. Isn't it pretty easy to disable automatic updates? I feel that an announcement video warning everyone to disable Fo4 updates would've been fine. Could still have the original release date and work on an updated version as well.

You must not own it on Steam because the only way around that is to have it already installed and NOT let Steam connect to the Internet.
@@chrismeandyou If you disable automatic updates in the game preferences and use the F4SE loader then it should prevent steam from updating even if its connected to the internet. At least thats how it works with skyrim. I think the other way is to make the .exe read only
Atp steam is obsolete, launchers like GOG with backup installers and backwards compatibility is the future

I'm not planning on updating unless this mod will require it. Most of my modlist won't work anymore with this new update and I don't care about whatever additions bethesda is putting in the game at this point. Reading through the comments, it looks to me like a lot of other people feel the same so maybe releasing for the older build isn't such a bad idea. Installing a mod of this magnitude requires at least a little technical knowledge so I don't think rolling back to a previous version will be a problem for the majority of people interested in this project. I'm sure folks like Gopher will release a video on how to make it all work.

You say you have a release candidate ready. Many of us won't be updating our installation for some time, so would it not be a viable short term solution to release for those that will be remaining on the older version while people work on the fixes?
Secondly, have you considered torrents as an alternative method for distribution? A magnet link on the website would ensure people don't get fooled by malicious fakes.

it is likely that many mods will break due to this is there any chance yous will release a current version of fallout London so we can play with the mods that are working ATM? i would guess many of the old modders wont come back after nearly 10 years
yup this update if it does what we are sure it will do will just be a huge middle finger to modders in general not just FOLON, the fact they release this update just a few days after this mod was going to go live is just extra spiteful.

The problem is that even if they release a mod in the pre-next gen version of the game, you will still have to delete all your mods to install it.

At this point I would just stealth release it as soon as its ready, or release it as is with updates going forward. Companies charge £60 for broken AAA games nowadays and a depressing amount of people accept it, which means I think there will be so much good will towards a free mod with pure passion, especially since it is common knowledge that it was out of your hands. I don't know anything about game development, but this is my view as a gamer.

Many content creators were anticipating covering this mod and wont be able to now, I hope most will be able to cover it once it releases, I understand the decision but cant help but wonder if releasing it and instructing users to only use the previous version of the game wouldn't have been the better option

I am ok with this. It gives me the chance to dive into the Fallout 4 Next Gen update and play it while I wait for Fallout London. You guys have worked incredibly hard and deserve to do whatever you want with the release! I will be waiting patiently and am super excited to get my hands on it!

I own the game on console and PC. I prefer playing on my console, but I knew FO London would never fit as a mod. For the longest time, I wished Bethesda would have stepped in. There are so many failed ambitious mods, I get Bethesda not jumping up right away, but closing in on the end, they have to know the excitement from the community and the fact Fallout London is the real deal. Bethesda propping up modders, showing their support would have been huge for the mod scene and Bethesda itself. If they stepped up and said hey, let us turn this into a full DLC for consoles so it won't act like a mod (with full and proper compensation, of course) that would have been monumental. Bethesda needs a win here after Starfield. The Fallout TV show is a fantastic shot in the arm, but Bethesda failed to capitalize on it with their joke of a Next Gen upgrade that is little more than skinned assets and promised bug fixes.
I can't believe the missed opportunity of goodwill and even profit that would have come if Bethesda said "Hey gamers, we are celebrating Fallout with our new show on Prime, and celebrating our biggest fans, the modders. Here is Fallout London, a passion project and game bigger than anything before in the gaming industry. Join us so you too can experience the lore and games, and now TV show that has excited gamers for generations. Buy Fallout 4 and enjoy the biggest mod in history, the sprawling Fallout: London, coming to PC through the modding scene, and Bethesda, who will be bringing it to all consoles."
That tiny bit of PR would have been a huge shot of goodwill to the company and, more importantly, the fans. You know, the ones that buy their games. Even if the only thing they cared about was $$$, the payoff in that regard would be huge.

yes the mod is impossible to work on older version of the game as it can only work on next gen update for let's say using what next gen update has and thus mod will be depended for next gen update therefore unless you are the creator of the mod you cannot convert the mod to work with other versions of the game but next-gen update
if you ever installed a mod for cyberpunk 2077, then you gotta know how version of the game matters a lot on which mods can be installed. same logic but bethesda version :DDD

I do hope you archive the build that would have been released. I would imagine it may end up useful should you ever wish to port the game to FO4VR, as things like FRIK get more and more advanced. Especially with all the beautiful scenery you've shown, it'd be mindblowing to explore this world using something like FRIK.
I would personally prefer to see the current version go live with a big old disclaimer while the work is done on the updates.
That said, your reasoning is entirely understandable, and I trust the FOLON team to do what's best in the long run.

You should just launch it, cause BGS is going to update the update multiple times now.
At this point you guys should just release the London mod early and we will back track our updates to play, otherwise we could be waiting indefinitely. Please folon release to us early. I know its a collective project but the update is a disaster anyway, people hate it and want to roll back either way lol. You should just let the main modding community play who have kept this game alive for so long, forget about the collective for just the moment, you could just release to us early and in the future when the script extender fixes you can then release for next gen for the rest to play but please don't hold us back from playing just because of the minority instead of the majority.

It's sensible what you think is best wait and see what happened as you might be worried new update might stuff up add on game and is no good to release game with potential to cause more problems. As a casual gamer who doesn't really get into mods or game tweaks much, I'm one of the people who doesn't put effort into "making things work". I just want to click and play. I am also a Londoner - I hope you can solve this problem, and bring your work out into the world!
