Absolutely thats why im still in shock after a year. I’ve decided to stop thinking about it because he’s always in my heart. Its been over a year and Im still in his circle of life after Chris Cornell.
I was in a back-back room 20 years ago with the likes Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Gruntruck, and a bunch of the epic rockers at an Alice in Chains/ Screaming Trees show in Seattle. I didn't get star struck until Kim walked into the room. He was so nice to everyone and nearly everyone star dropped what they were doing to say hi to him. He is worthy rock/ guitar god. Naturally, I didn't have the nerve to talk to him.
Not as familiar. But have heard a couple of tracks I liked. Where are all the good bands these days? I never realized what I great era the early 90's were until looking back recently & realizing the good that has resulted from the influence of this era is few & far between.
Carl Puglisi there are NO good bands these days! well OK, there are a few. Queens of the Stone Age are pretty good, and the Black Keys are awesome, but nothing has the youthful fire of 90s alt rock. grunge was the last breath of life in rock n roll, and an amazing breath at that. every time I discover another grunge band from the 90s, I get so angry that I wasn't growing up in that era! music today is so crap..
+entertain7us14 I agree with you... The whole Grunge/Alternative scene was the last trace of pure Rock... After that, almost everything was pure garbage... The music scene in 2000 was catastophic... In my opinion the 90's was the best decade for music !
What Kim says about fans and influences is one of the most righteous things I've ever heard. I don't know if I've heard any musician put it that way and it's a really pure philosophy
I love this; "function of age" lmao. Same age of Chris, so I can relate to that. Can NOT wait to get the new stuff. Chris has to be the best singer of his time. Never tire of listening to him sing.
Man I Aint Sold Dat Let's see... pretty much every other video I've mentioned it in, I've mentioned it on my Facebook, my twitter, and IG. I think this is the first one I haven't said RIP in. I've probably said it 100+ times already. But thanks for making me look like a jerk does doesn't care. 😊
Remember, Kim Thayil has a degree in philosophy, so his erudition and articulate wit go with the territory; also, consider the lyrics he writes ("Ferrivorous direction and drive," say)...but even given the raw, visceral power of his playing, the beast is still under exquisitely calibrated control:. consider his deceptively quiet, even serene playing posture, which reminds me of nothing so much as John Entwistle's unshakeable steady-as-she-goes stance at the eye of the Who's storm. Kim wastes no energy on cheap theatrics, instead pouring passion, soul and intelligence into the controlled fury of his playing; he is one of very few guitarists whose playing can meet the power and truth of Chris Cornell's voice and not seem flat by comparison. (IMNSHO, Tom Morello is another such rare bird among guitarists, which is the only reason by these lights that Audioslave worked at all, let alone as well as it did.)
Such down to earth beautiful souls that became legends. I remember when they were practically kids and were also constantly clowning around. Honored to watch them evolve over decades
In other interviews, Chris Cornell, who made no secret of his introversion or of his chronic depression, had stated that part of what he looked for in a bandmate is someone with whom he could hang comfortably as well as create worthwhile music; perhaps Soundgarden worked as well as it did for as long as it had, then was able to reunite fairly gracefully after the hiatus, because the band had become a relatively functional chosen family along the way and never really dissolved the social bonds among them during the layoff. During this interview, Chris and Kim did appear like brothers from different mothers, which was delightful to see; I only wish his band-family could have intervened for Chris on that fateful day in Detroit in May 2017.
My opinion is i think Chris was kind of shocked at the introduction. The interviewer called them 'guys from Soundgarden'. I dont know, I think that intro could have been more heart felt for such legends in the music world.
I was hours away from death Jan 5th 2012. 4 months in hospital, wished I could die later after. 6 bypass heart surgery, a unrepairable Aeorta and a 10% chance of survival and 3 stomach surgery's. damn! I swear these guys did this for me! Life really is worth living! By the way, there is a medical write up by Mayo clinic as being a complete anomaly to survive the damage to my aeorta by it scanning over on its own and for have that FRICKING tube shoved down my throat for 15 days.
I've just bought the new record. I didn't know that the had a new one and when I saw I went kinda crazy xD It's a fucking art work, an amazing booking and the best cd of their career (ok, the 2nd best)
That’s the year I started in my Band The Hep Replacements. The 12th mans a coming. Seahawks win in 2014. Legion of Boom. I wrote that song and the Words
Soundgarden has always been known for adding well-chosen albeit offbeat, unexpected covers to their live shows -- but, yes, the Stone Roses would have been too unlikely a choice for them, even for a goof. On the other hand, covering the Stooges is a righteous move; I wish I could have heard that show live...
6:25-6:30 Chris closes his eyes hoping for atleast a proper outro .......and he looks he's thinking, ''thank god that sounds better than what he said before''
No because Chris Cornell wanted more money like a capitalist and not split equally like "a commie" because as a songwriter he thought he deserved more bucks than the rest of the band. His new found superficial Jet Setter lifestyle was pretty taxing then.
If it wasn't for Cornell audioslave would of been a commie band always whining about the government as he makes millions of dollars on government owned properties .
Kim's voice is so smooth and mellow. He should do audiobooks.
chris voice was smooth too, he should have sang
Is it just me or in every interview for years Chris has seemed full of life. My God I'm still so lost over this. My hero.....RIP Chris.
Michael Mannina yes, he was a lovely man. that's why it's hit people so badly, a kind gentle soul who I wish had asked for help
You got a point there, Walter :(
Absolutely thats why im still in shock after a year. I’ve decided to stop thinking about it because he’s always in my heart. Its been over a year and Im still in his circle of life after Chris Cornell.
Please Misguideme well I’ve seen one or two where he doesn’t seem full of life and you can see something is troubling him
@@waltersobchak926 most of his lyrics, now relistening to them, seem like a cry for help
kim thayil is such a fucking boss. blood on the valey floor and worse dreams are kickass songs.

Badmotorfinger, Superunknown and Down On The Upside are perfect albums. What a legacy!
let's not forget Louder Than Love.
Carl Puglisi come on, have you HEARD Ultramega OK?!!!! That bass line! those drums! that low growl... that album is heaven!
Not as familiar. But have heard a couple of tracks I liked. Where are all the good bands these days? I never realized what I great era the early 90's were until looking back recently & realizing the good that has resulted from the influence of this era is few & far between.

03:37 ... that little shake of the head and smirk from Chris Cornell.....no, no we aren't doing a few Stone Roses covers. God I miss him.
I love this; "function of age" lmao. Same age of Chris, so I can relate to that. Can NOT wait to get the new stuff. Chris has to be the best singer of his time. Never tire of listening to him sing.
Two rockers who have aged fantastically. Chris always looks so intense.
KIm always cracks me up during his interviews. I like his sense of humor.
Why don't you mention Chris's passing?
Man I Aint Sold Dat Let's see... pretty much every other video I've mentioned it in, I've mentioned it on my Facebook, my twitter, and IG. I think this is the first one I haven't said RIP in. I've probably said it 100+ times already. But thanks for making me look like a jerk does doesn't care. 😊
I wasn't trying to be rude.
I apologize for coming off as aggressive. 😞 That was not cool of me to do that.
I am bummed about Chris Cornell's death.
That was a cool interaction between you two. I'm not being sarcastic it's just rare to see that
It's incredible how sophisticated Kim is in person, but is a beast on the guitar on stage
Chris Cornell=Best. Vocalist. Ever.
Such down to earth beautiful souls that became legends. I remember when they were practically kids and were also constantly clowning around. Honored to watch them evolve over decades
Kim Thayil is the best character in the world . And has the heaviest tone in the world ..
got the new album as soon as it came out, put on "1,000 days before" and omg, it's Soundgarden. missed you guys!!!!
I Stand With Soundgarden ❤
1:15 oh his eyes what a piece of a art RIP chris
They were so good together. There was such harmony between them.
But Vicky thinks that the band members didn't care at all. What BFS!
Christopher gives me goose bumps at 5:53 !!!! He just lights up the room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you Christopher!🥰
agree with that, incredible to think he's the drummer for Soundgarden and Pearl Jam
I never get tired of watching these guys get interviewed. So fucking witty. They should totally do an AMA on Reddit.
I thought Chris would be the witty one (from his lyrics) but Kim is self effacing & absolutely hilarious.
Foghat Fool for the City...LOL
@EndofMusic That goes without saying. Giving my man Kim some props is all.
CC sure is aging well!
Agreed! Saw them last year at the joint in vegas. Was blown to fuck away!He is a very very good drummer.
Wow decent guys lol they both r so real
Kim actually has a deep, beautiful voice. It will be interesting to hear him sings. =D
chris face at 0:26 he looks really surprised at the mention of his name
I think it was calling them "the guys from Soundgarden" that got him just like any regular band. He was quite an egotist I think
Chris's reaction was like "Do you know who the fuck you are about to interview?, Iam not just a guy. I am Chris Jesus Cor fucking nell!"
Totally agree... 'The greatest grunge band is back! and i'm here with them! It's fucking Chris Cornell!!! I can smell him!' could be much better...
they are not getting older it seems!
RIP Chris
Soundgarden & Pearl Jam do not age!
My opinion is i think Chris was kind of shocked at the introduction. The interviewer called them 'guys from Soundgarden'. I dont know, I think that intro could have been more heart felt for such legends in the music world.
Chris Cornell and Kim Thayil, check that title video.
I was hours away from death Jan 5th 2012. 4 months in hospital, wished I could die later after. 6 bypass heart surgery, a unrepairable Aeorta and a 10% chance of survival and 3 stomach surgery's. damn! That's intriguing-Chris was such a chameleon...I've seen those facial expressions when he was being interviewed with Kim in 1990!
rip chris cornell
Can't wait for the new album anymore...
I've just bought the new record. I didn't know that the had a new one and when I saw I went kinda crazy xD
It's a fucking art work, an amazing booking and the best cd of their career (ok, the 2nd best)
I totally agree with this statement.
haha chris on the olympics
Chris' WHAT THA FUCK IS GOING ON face on 0:26 - 0:30 is priceless...
That’s the year I started in my Band The Hep Replacements. The 12th mans a coming. Seahawks win in 2014. Legion of Boom. I wrote that song and the Words
Totally agree
Chris is fired up for the concert. Not so much there for the interview.:)
I want Kim to do a podcast or something
Cool! I got the album too !!!! I love "Bones of Birds"
I just heard from somewhere that Kym is actually an Indian, is he?
Kim Thayil has family roots in Kerala, a state of East India, though he was born in Seattle and raised in a suburb of Chicago.
disappointed they didn't get Eddie Vedder to appear at the Shepherds Bush Empire recently to do a rendition of Hunger Strike
look at the video response- i found a rusty cage proshot video
"We are doing a few Stone Roses songs."
"Really?!"
"No."
Ha!
3:33 😁 The mini head shake afterwards wouldn't have happened when he was younger.
Rip us a cord Kimmy Thayil!!!!!!! Merry Christ mas from Justin n Wifey
Is that Billy Joel or Kim Thayil?
;-)
I don't think the interviewer understood the whole pole-vaulting thing.
THAT PURPLE MIC LOOKS LIKE A GIANT DRUM STICK :)
They don't look like the best buds they used to be in the 90''
Kim Thayil looking a bit like Dr. John the Night Tripper.
Constant pissing down 🤣 Irish people can relate, in colder seasons.
6:25-6:30 Chris closes his eyes hoping for atleast a proper outro .......and he looks he's thinking, ''thank god that sounds better than what he said before''
When I'm tired of feeling black spread the wings upon your back
lol whats up with your user name?
3:32 Are you really? : / lol
Chris Cornell looks oddly high on....life. Hopefully. ;P
I’ll pole vault Kim any day.❤️
*senior
Kim Tile
what do you mean by commie trip?
Chris about olimpiks 😂😂😂😂😂 bit lazy, my love
If Kim had sideburns, he'd look like a Hasidic Jew.
3:36 haha
lol
I will not erase VICKI. She deserves 64 million
What are you talking about?
Chris Cornell is Robert Downey jr
Baked interview
Chris quit Audioslave because he was tired of Morello's commie trip.
No because Chris Cornell wanted more money like a capitalist and not split equally like "a commie" because as a songwriter he thought he deserved more bucks than the rest of the band. His new found superficial Jet Setter lifestyle was pretty taxing then.
deadstar44 no because VK pressured him into getting more money, it was all about the money for her
If it wasn't for Cornell audioslave would of been a commie band always whining about the government as he makes millions of dollars on government owned properties .
I love how Jewish Kim Thayil is
under grownd right, except for the whole being from India thing ...
Look at that beard. Kim is old now :(
Chris looks bummy
SoundGarden is good, but I like Audioslave better!
