- Abandoned Subway - Mentor, OH. Says it's temporarily closed but the "for lease" sign says otherwise. This was a former Taco Bell that was retrofitted and renovated for Subway.

There's a movie theater that's near me that is "temporary closed" since 1984.
We'll get it reopened for sure.

I miss going to older movie theaters usually in downtown areas that were built in the '40s and '50s.
I lived in Mentor OH from 2001-2004. I went to a few Taco Bell locations over that span of time. I'm almost certain I visited this particular former, Taco Bell location at least once. I moved out of Mentor in 2004 for Scottsdale, AZ for school. Mentor holds a small portion of my heart, as I made some cool pals there, and have a generally good time in Mentor High School which I left middle of the year my Senior year (2002/03) to finish up back in my hometown in North Central TX. I remember driving up and down Mentor Ave, Johnnycake Ridge Road, Heisley etc lots of memories during my brief stay in the tiny crackerbox town of Mentor. I remember seeing James Abrham Garfield's (20th US President) estate in town, and Great Lakes Mall on the weekends. I got a PT job at a Buffalo Wild Wings when I was 17.

Garfield's house used to have a nice tour around Christmas Time, not sure if they still do that.

This became a Subway in the 2000’s. Their drive-thru used to have a self-ordering touch screen kiosk but I’d say in the late 2000’s that went away as the company that owned the kiosk went out of business so they went to a traditional drive-thru with a speaker.
As for the closing, my guess is this store didn’t recover after COVID. That road sign was changed to that in 2020.
I feel like the self ordering kiosk would be easier for the employees.
@@catsarecute974 Oh for sure. Hell, as a customer it was easier for me to enter a sub exactly how I wanted it.
You have to go to the closed Burger King about 5 minutes away.
@@ryanmarek123the only problem is if you get a toasted sub, and add veggies on it, it didn’t ask you what vegetables you wanted toasted on it.
I forgot about the touch screen. I used to get lunch here everyday back then. It was super convenient but I remember it would only take one car with a multiple sandwich order and the line would be backed up to the street.
We have a very old school Taco Bell in Austin, Texas. It was relocated, and another restaurant took it over that is also now abandoned, but the restaurant never changed the building.
What would be so cool is if these restaurants had the option for the franchise owner to build a classic version of their 70's, 80's and 90's glory. I would love to go to a taco bell in that building style.

At Subway I get a meatball marinara sub, artisan Italian bread, onions, green peppers, toasted with salt, pepper and Parmesan cheese. But the boss sub is very good too. Also recently they got rid of mozzarella.
I remember at one time back in the '90s you could get a foot long meatball or pizza sub for $3. The other foot longs were around $5. I remember this because I was called a cheap date for buying the cheaper subs. I would also get the cold cut trio. Certainly not the healthiest options, but definitely some of the tastiest.😋🤤

I wish all subways had a drive thru
Back in the '90s a gas station here had Taco Bell and Subway inside and they had a drive-thru on the side. I remember them charging slightly extra on tacos and burritos like 20 to 50 cents extra on some items and they didn't have every item the regular Taco Bell had, but most of them. The Subway was normal with regular pricing. I called it Taco Bell Express because it was close to my work and convenient that I could go into the store and get any drink or extra snack I wanted with my tacos. Actually thinking back it was called Taco Bell Express or something like that and I've only seen a few usually off the interstate somewhere at truck stops.
Only used a drive through once, never again.

Here in Detroit, and Subway has been Closing Restaurants Permanently. What, Subway Restaurants that are still open, are not accepting coupons either. And, in the Detroit area, there is a Fast Food war going on, the $5.00 Meal Deal, it started with Wendy's $5.00 Biggie Bag.

I live very close to that place, I’m surprised that the ceiling fans are still spinning😮 & I do remember that it used to be a Taco Bell. we used to go to the Taco Bell in the 1980’s right after church ⛪️

I remember going through the drive thru there with my mom when I was about 8. I drove past there earlier today. This location’s closing I remember was very silent. It closed during covid and simply never reopened.
I assume this became a Subway in the early 2000s, as the Taco Bell down the street across from the mall is in an old Donato's that closed in the early 2000s and that TB was originally located here.

A subway taking over a Taco Bell interesting, I knew of a subway that bought out a smaller Tex-mex location. I guess for some franchises purchase big fast food locations, are a thing.

Good video. It was an old Taco Bell. I worked at one that style in the early 80s.
A couple days ago I got the spiciest sub I could have gotten, I got a Buffalo chicken sub, footlong, jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, toasted with extra Buffalo when it comes out. And it was super good. I sadly also heard they’re getting rid of Buffalo chicken also. But next time I get it I need to add Creamy Sriracha and Baja Chipotle because I forgot to add it on it last time.

I used to be a bus driver in lake county. It's sad but many places didn't make it through covid. It was sad driving around everyday seeing more and more places close down. The Wendy's right next to this went out of business due to the poor condition of the building and the owner not wanting to improve it so the franchise abandoned it. I used to go to the TGIF and Quaker Stake alot when I was a kid.
That was a Taco Bell that used to have a bell right where the Subway sign is located now on the roof, yet then it was a curved area on the roof, yet Subway altered it.

The Burger King is South of that Subway at the Exit of I-90 Eastbound. Next to a Red Roof Inn.
I moved into the area in 2009 and I’ve always known that location to be a Subway. I think we only ate there once or twice as we have two more subways between us and there plus the one inside the mall across the street is more convenient.
I hope it gets reopened and get A new remodel of the subway with new posters new sign new Restaurant
It closed because the location is next the Great Lakes Mall, and the owner raised the rent way to high.

They won some kind of civic award for the remodel job back around 2005. I think it was one of the first drive thru Subways.
Also, I believe it closed because it was difficult to get in and out of the lot and it always had low traffic because of it.
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought this was the Subway right down the road from me. Its a reformed Taco Bell that closed in the late 90s.
That train sounded like a high priority Intermodal (random guess: was probably I003)

I work down the street from there, I could SWEAR it was open like 5 or so years ago, and I never tried looking it up to see if it was opened
I used to work there a year or 2 before it closed. The Popeyes across the street was once a Wendy's lol.

It's weird seeing this recommended on yt. I'm from the area and I know exactly where this subway is. I've used their drive thru too. Still have no idea why it's closed and what they plan on doing with it. Also yes, I call it "menner" lol

The owner who leased this location was going to reopen it. He has 3 locations I know of but he was hiring, I guess he could not find the staffing. He had problems with staffing at other locations. He was hiring for this location on Indeed about 6-7 month ago.
The one in my area got condemned. Moment that happened, they bailed.
Everything is better in Mentor.

The fans are on because someone ripped out the pull chains so they are stuck on low speed lol. Replaced many of those pull chain switches.
