the real joy of pauper is seeing extremely strong yet narrow hate cards from 30 years ago. destroy all auras at instant speed for 2? sure why not
Patrician's Scorn is a particularly nasty one since it doesn't slow you down at all but my favourite is Leave No Trace for being so good against Bogles and an interesting use of a pretty bad mechanic. Sometimes looking at Pauper sideboards makes me think Wizards used to really dislike enchantments XD

I submitted my own version of Presence of Guard combo, but I love to see the twist on adding red for card draw and impact tremors! Truly the community finds a way to always add new twists!
My version is abzan for discard, which helps against any answers they'll have for the combo. It also doesn't have to have the combo to win because it can beat down with beefy dudes like Putrid Leech and Gurmag Angler
4:30 Seems like Thoralf got his notes a bit mixed up here, since he hasnt actually seen any impulse cards at this point.

The enjoyment from watching mtg videos often comes from just the fun the people at the table are having. You guys have such infectious fun it makes all the videos so enjoyable! i am always partial to commander just because it means more players having more fun, but the 1v1s you guys do are fantastic to watch! im waiting for you guys to have the Professor on or vice versa!

I do have a beginner question tho. At the end, when thoralf was tapped out, and carl had assebled his combo, why did he wait for thoralf to untap to make all the tokens. Isnt the board more vulnerable in that configuration with removal and the like? Its not like thoralf could be holding up a wraith of god or something like that. (Not trying to be backhanded, I'm just very unknowledgeable and would like to learn more)
I noticed the same and would also consider it an error, also given the fact that Carl was aware of the risk of aura destruction at this point
I don't need to tap it there and it's generally good practice to wait till you the last moment for these kinds of things.in this case, I got punished by artifact removal. Which I earnestly did not expect to be in a user submitted deck 😅 I was poorly trying to play around echoing truths
@@CardmarketMagic oooh, I havent even considered that something like that would just wipe the board of 1/1s. There's so much to keep track of in magic! Damn, this game is hard!
Well were you did get punished, there wasnt much you could do except like wait until you draw a counterspell? Eh. You did say better to go for the win than to play too scared, when you have other options in hand.
Also of course looking at it with hindsight, way easier than in the moment. Better to keep to best practises when in doubt?

agreed
makes more sense (imho) to play around the serene heart that you've seen than a potential answer that you haven't seen. Especially since Midnight Guard + 1/1 isn't racing the oozes.
Maaannnnn sometimes I think some of these games are slightly stacked (Someone drawing into a win con the turn before they die happens alot) but then I see games with 5 islands and 3 mountains and nothing to cast for 3 turns.
All I'm saying is it's perfect.
The flood of Mountains and Islands in game 2 was so funny.

I love pauper. I'm still convinced it is the only format they can't break because it is the hardest for them to milk. They may prove me wrong someday but for now riding high!

Some Careful Studies might do that ooze deck good, to avoid more games where they brick on their many copies of Slime Against Humanity without drawing the right number of lands. It even puts extra oozes in the graveyard to make the tokens bigger!
I'd love to see more pauper content! I think that its a really cool format that i know hardly anything about! Plus there arent a lot of other places to find gameplay on youtube
The odds of drawing a spell pierce are in fact 100% when you cantrip at end of turn

This is why contrary to the general pauper meta, I like to run "actual" counterspells - counterspell/dispel/annul/blast- far too often you'll have a spell pierce / spike / metallic rebuke in hand which don't end up doing their job

Sweet games! I think the deck that lost was probably favored, but that's just the game sometimes! Also always fun seeing how janky mana bases can be in this format, it really hurts to run more than 2 colors!
I haven't played pauper for years. I had an awesome Kiln Fiend deck that got slightly less effective with Probe restriction.
That first game was great, i didnt see that comeback coming

I just played a pauper ooze deck about 4 hours ago, so this came at a perfect time. Mine was way more of a joke deck though, 30 slimes against humanity and mono green.

That first game was incredible
As strange as it may seem I really hate the slime card. If it was just tracking in the graveyard I would have no issue with it but that it tracks both graveyard AND exile is just nonsensical.
Although the second game starting with both player getting color screwed is hilarious.
I understand why they had it track exile for limited purposes because of collect evidence (even if the slime is stone cold unplayable there), but yeah it’s pretty goofy that you can surgical extraction the card for extreme benefit
i wonder if penny is a format y'all would be interested in showcasing , i love the budget on it. usually its less than 2$ for an entire deck!
The issue with penny is that it's just a MTGO format. As soon as you put it in paper, it breaks down (as the value of paper cards goes up the more they are bought). As we only do paper content, it's not really a format we'd like to encourage. It's really fun on MTGO though :)

Hey there. One piece of feedback, the annotations on the side are a bit hard to read. The font is a bit thin and maybe too small in general. Particularly on mobile. Great video though!

Decks cost 30 if you add the card values and that's it, but with all the shippings it's closer to 50, and if you plan on going to tournaments you need to prepare a sideboard, and that will probably have the elemental blasts. Which are like 3 or 4€ each in good condition.
And if you play black, Snuff out is 6€ each. And if you play Affinity, the white and red artifact lands are quite costly asswell (in pauper terms), specially the whites, Wizards, reprint pauper staples ffs

Small nitpick listening in the car the music was a little too loud in the mix imo. Just a touch, I want to hear magic not music. And think you should throw in a link to the deck lists, which you may have shown on screen but I'm listening and would be nice to check that out later.
