Kuru would then carry this bag of salami with him for the entire rest of the day. Find yourself someone who loves you as much as this man loves his salami.
This game has a deep lore. As all teams have their reasons for creating the group, each member has a description, hierarchy and personality. You can see how much love and care was put into having a more authentic street racing experience
Couldn't agree more, and when you go back to early PSX and earlier systems they release on it gets even better. The stories weren't just lore but past down and in between the developers over the years. It's kind of insane I'm 40 and it's so just coming together now
Hey everyone, it’s me (the editor) again! After taking some of your feedback from the Stuntman video into account, I’m once again curious to know what you think about the video! :)
The reason why Genki Games went with the car's chassis code rather than their actual names is to circumvent copyright laws. TXR3 had the car's actual names and had way lesser cars compared to their earlier games
Also, by using the chassis code, its much easier to identified which car manufacturer was and which car model they released. If they used the car's name, its much harder to identify because we barely can see the difference between year release and what kind of car models they have.
To the point of the "Type" naming system, it's to skirt around using non-licensed cars and having extremely custom looking machines for the bosses in game. What's great about it though is that you can basically just rename the car into anything after playing it. So you could give it the actual car name and not, say, "C39A" or "BNR34" or "JZA80". That was something lost with the later games when they switched to using licensed vehicles. The car roster became smaller, the visual customization became a bit more limited, and the boss cars became not as iconic as the ones in Zero.
Are these codes official from the manufactures or just Genki created them? I always thinked they were official since Option Tuning games from ps1, as the codes were always the same
@@G4bri3lBatista Yes. They are official. But I guess they never copyright them considering it skirted around copyright. Which is awesome for us as we got to have a large car roster and loads of unique boss cars.
It’s always good to see more coverage on the Tokyo Xtreme Racer franchise. It’s a great game that wasn’t widely appreciated at when it released. The games have a great car list, with lots of unique and obscure choices, especially in later races. in depth (if not confusing at times) mechanics, and challenging opponents with some cool cars to face. If you pick these games up, be sure to play with a guide on hand, as many things are not outright explained to the player. I really hope that more people get interested in these games and buy the new one coming out next year!
Have absolutely loved this series from day one. Literally every right l title they have is a gem in it's own way. TXR and 2 on Dreamcast. TXR0 and 3 on PS2. And all of the Wangan and highway games from PSX forward. Truly ahead of there time.
To the point at 18:43 As far as I know, the reason why the box art is almost identical is because Zero is an updated version of TXR2 with a newer story that takes place after the events of TXR2. Personally don't think its lazy when viewed from that perspective.
TXRZ was my first PS2 game when my dad bought me my PS2. I still have it and play it today. Complete with the blue and red memory cards and Sony controllers. I’ve dumped countless hours into this game. But I’ve never been able to beat it. I hope that the new game that’s gonna release in 2025 still keeps the real life highway system. Imagine what could be possible with today’s graphics. A day and night cycle, dynamic weather, shadows, reflections and so on.

I wonder if kuru will Pick up C1GP now that theres been a english patch made, genki's try at a track official racing like game, rlly fun imo (0 is still my favorite out of the main series and spin offs)
My favourite non-gran-turismo-type racing game. The definition of whole adding up to something bigger than just the sum of parts. This game is magic, you feel like anime character. And the soundtrack has to be among the best ever recorded.
I grew up on other games not knowing this series existed. I even managed to play the Import Challenge game but I was so young I didn't recall the name of it until YEARS later. Leading to me discovering this series and I just wanna say what an undiscovered gem. It keeps the fun of old racing games alive that I feel just isn't a part of current racing games.
Fast AI in straight lines is the reason why you need to buy a R32 GT-R asap in the game. Start with the Celica or the Lancer like you did, save all the money you can, buy the R32 (it's kinda cheap), sell the other car (less mileage = more value) and then continue to drive and tune your R32. And trust me, the R32 can carry you accross the whole game! Only downside is the more expensive tuning (because of high HP increase), and maybe cornering. I'm not sure the NSX can carry you that much... Another important car is the Viper, but you'll use this car mainly for specific wanderers.
About the "Drift version of it" aka Kaido Racer 2 in Europe, has been pointed as tedious... well, i cant defend how heavy of menus and reading that game is, but dominating the really well made physics, enjoy the lore and side histories, and mostly have a blast into such amazing and detailed tracklist and car list, absolutely pays for it. Its a top tier driving game on PS2, for sure.
Zero and Two have the same cover art because they are effectively the same game: Two was on Dreamcast, they upgraded it and released it on PS2. It got 28 new opponents and a couple of new features, but otherwise the content is the same (They're about 9 months apart in terms of release date).
Daaaamn i have been playing this for several hours in my ps2 when i was young, i was struggling in knowing the game's name, now i know it. Thanks to kuruhs.
I also played this on stream. As a kid, I never beat the last boss and I was able to do it 20sum years later. The last battle was honestly, the weirdest ever. He hit a truck going 200mph and it only took 1 race to win. The irony of the 240z crashing....
I love the game, but really hope there will be a clearer indication of what the wanderer requirements are in the next one (like directly in game) and some of the more ridiculous stuff won't make a re-appreance.
0:59 yeah TXR 2 and Zero soundtracks are really good It is easier to defeat Wanderers after defeating everyone else, thus unlocking almost all upgrades and cars (there is mileage upgrades in Zero) and the game can be completed just with the CE9A although the last bosses will be a pain 21:02 and I want Maximum Tune The NSX is King in C1 and maybe in Shinjuku Also, you can bring Wangan rivals to the C1 and destroy them there
Two things: Yeah, I guess in general I dig the City Street Racing over Mountain Drifting, so maybe when I finally get to try the TXR games I'll feel the same too. And yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah I also wasn't feeling Unbound's Drift Handling as much too. Edit: 20:48 perfect song choice haha
Have you read any of the Rival descriptions? Other than some of them being funny, it helps immerse you into the game as you know that there are people behind the over-the-top rival handles and cars.
he need to play C1GP Racing Battle. a japanese-only game from Genki where its just TXR but in closed circuit track. both C1 outer and inner turned into a closed track and osaka kanjo loop as well. it recently got an english patch its 90% done
TXR is returning next year, let's hope that the game doesn't end up a slop. Also yes those Wanderers are the reason TXR playtimes can go up to RPG levels of playtime total. Especially Funabashi Hooligan in 3/Zero-One if you're not aware of his requirement
Zero is the one game with the most obtuse ones. 3 As well but zero has some asinine ones like playing at a certain time in the PS2 clock and having a certain license plate. 3 has one where you have to stop and spam your horn at a certain corner. ITC makes it much better where people in the parking areas will tell you or give you hints about how to challenge wanderers. As well as them only appearing if the requirements are met or in the PAs hinting at their requirements.

This game can be fun, but gets tedious and grindy. Note engine unlocks via mileage so letting auto pilot drive your car overnight unlocks parts. You lose horsepower the higher your trip meter goes
This was an issue back in PS2 and Dreamcast era where you need to set autopilot when you win/lose the race by simply put controller down for at least 2 days to make extremely high mileage. Same things happened in Gran Turismo 4 Endurance race where they can have race up to 24 hours which killed the PS2 really fast due lack of cooling down (let it rest after few hours of playing). However, since we have Emulators, things are much easier and you can gain final upgrade for engines in just few hours by fast-forwarding to the limit.
