If I was in video production in the 90s, I would so wish to be making videos like this, sega’s western inn videos, or anything on late night cable. You got to do whatever wacky idea you wanted and just went with it.
I watched this tape over and over and over. Had it memorized. As I was watching this I could still follow along almost exactly. I used to watch the Zelda clip in slow motion, which on a VCR is going frame by frame. Best believe this had me putting in a pre order.
I remember seeing this in elementary school. Our teacher had us do a movie day where we could bring in a video tape from home and they would pick a few of them that we would watch. One kid brought this exact tape in and we ended up watching the entire thing as a whole class. It was unreal and awesome back then.
This's my favorite Promo VHS tape out of the ones Nintendo did back then. I remember me and my brother would watch this over and over even during the PS4 days just for the luls. It's one of those things that's so bad it's good. XD
Oh man you're missing out if you never played Mischief Makers!! It's so good! Total hidden gem on N64. Made by Treasure, i believe? The same team that did Ikaruga.
I'm so angry with you...first you open the package and then you're nice enough to make a video on it. You have some nerve pal. I mean, I haven't seen a VHS player in 10 years, you monster! (Thank you for posting this video).
One question...why did they have Sega in red?! That was a bit strange but the rest was perfect. The preorder cost was high for a game (even back then). Edit* thinking about it now it could be that Star Fox 64 cost more than 50 bucks. Back in the 1990's they had us put down 10% of the game but I don't remember paying 100 dollars for Star Fox 64. At any rate, by that point we were pre-ordering games and consoles on a regular basis. The very first game I ever preordered was Sonic The Hedgehog 2 for Sonic Tuesday. I got my Sega Saturn and Sony Playstation on 9/9/95. I tried to get my Saturn during the surprise launch but I couldn't find one. EB just happened to have Saturn's in stock when I was getting my Playstation so I got them both (I had to trade in a lot). I actually didn't want an N64 until I saw my best friend playing Mario 64 on his launch N64 on launch day. I jumped back in my car and flew to the store trying to get one and they were all sold out. It took me over 6 months to finally get one. ;)
I got mine from Nintendo Power. I think i had 2 copies of the Donkey Kong Country tapes with one of them having the "Toys R Us" logo on it
Oh snap. I might have to run to eBay 😂
I got this in the mail from Nintendo Power when I was a kid!! I watched it SO MANY TIMES!!
I can easily see why, it’s a national treasure
This tape felt like a fever dream version of a Nintendo direct😂😅
Lolol man I’d watch SO many more Nintendo directs if they were like this! 😂

90s ads were truly top tier, and so unhinged
I had one! Paused at 0:44 trying my best to remember whats on this, but can't at all. Looking forward to reliving this!
All vaguely familiar. The console wars were ruthless then

Maaaaaan back when pre-orders really meant something. I miss those days
@@HeyWhoInvitedZac Yeah, a golden Zelda OOT cart in this case.

Lmao I absolutely love this
This was very clearly the inspiration for that scene in "A Fox in Space" episode 2.

I miss that era of filmmaking so badly lol
@@HeyWhoInvitedZac I miss the 90's in general.
Uhh YA! It was awesome! I remember learning about THE RUMBLE PACK as soon as I got the VHS.
Absofreakinglutely. The rumble pack was OP
wow I had this video as a child and it even convinced me to buy Star Fox but I didn't remember a second of the video.
I flippin LOVED starfox64 too

Correct. Mischief Makers was actually pretty great, I remember wanting and getting it before I knew what it was really about. "Cerberus Alpha"
I’ll have to check it out!! If you know anyone who has it complete in box I’ll buy it from em 😂
@@HeyWhoInvitedZac I do, but not sealed, box Very beat up
I’m a nerd for sealed media but thanks for putting this out there :)
My pleasure!! I am too, but I think I’m a slightly bigger nerd for reliving old media first hand 😂
Sega is doing an Elwood Blues / Dan Akroyd impersonation, I think.
I can see it
I got mine through Nintendo Power and must have watched it dozens of times. 7th grade me was the perfect audience for this. 😅
Dude 33 year old me is STILL the perfect audience for this 😂😂
I wore this tape out as a kid and asked for Starfox so damn fast....
I can 1000% see why
Unsurprisingly, it was released early in Japan first. This was a summer release in the USA but wikipedia says it was June 30th, 1997
Oh nice!
haha old 90s vids are hilarious, it looks like my home movies
Right?? Great times hahaha
I have mine somewhere. It was so fun back in the day. 😊
The good ol days
Pretty saw also came with a UK Nintendo magazine, I had 4-5 promo tapes at one stage. long lost
This is why I love eBay! Lol

The preview for this just said “I’m so angry with you” and I was like oh nooooooo hahaha. Thanks for watching and commenting, my friend!!

I do miss the days when pre orders were a huge deal lol. That’s such a cool story!! I love hearing tales from the 90s gaming scene- it was so much fun
I got a DK64 one and a Banjo Kazooie one.
I’m on a mission to collect alllllll of these that I can. But my VCR broke so I gotta find a new one first lol
I had this!!!
Hell yeahhhh that’s sick, I’m jealous!! I never had them as a kid but hey, I got it when I’m 33 😂😂😂
I actually got this, I think I got it from Nintendo power
That’s badass. I never got these as a kid and I feel like I missed out!
I got the Pokémon one.
Check next weeks video 👀👀👀
Every video game in the 1990s had a promotional tape, why is this so surprising to you?
Sheeeeit I never got mailed one! I just think they’re neat :)
You seem like a fun person
To bad sony did beat 64 lol
