I still have Mahavishnu's Birds of Fire in original vinyl that got in the 70s. I think I was just starting high school when it came out. Man, the 70s was a great time for guitar in music!
I just purchased this wonderful instrument yesterday. It is a beautiful, magical, and extremely easy playing guitar. A perfect tribute to and for the Maestro, the master, John McLaughlin.
I’ve been a fan of Mr. McLaughlin since 1972. I’ve seen him live many, many times. Always an inspiring figure to me. It’s great to hear him playing some blues.
Thanks John McLaughlin and the PRS team for designing and producing this amazing instrument. John is one of the most versatile / stellar guitarists ever. I have admired and seen John in concert "live " several times since the early 70's as well as have many of his albums too. His musical contributions with Mahavishnu Orchestra, Shakti and his solo work are iconic. This guitar is truly a perfect match for John as he confirms in this short video. Love conquers all🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
That’s a beautiful guitar, if I start saving now, I should be able to afford one by the time I’m John’s age. Jokes aside, John is a legend and only PRS could build an instrument to match his legendary status. Well Done!
Same for me.This recording is still a reference one,John playing was very innovative. The music portrayed there brings a feel of communion with the musicians as a nice jazz recording should bring.A highly recommended vinyl adquisition. A must have for a serious music lover.
Dear John, I first heard the Inner Mounting flame in 1971. It blew my mind and cemented me as a "Jazz" musician for the rest of my life. I was lucky enough to have Al Di Meola as a teacher, which I only mention because that is how I became so Lucy as to meet you back stage at Carnegie Hall when you played with Paco, And Al. At the moment I play as my last tune before falling off to sleep "Lotus Feet" with Jean-Luc in Istanbul. It still amazes me how you can be the Fire at the head of a rushing wind, and, as in this tune, as subtle as a light breeze. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the many years of joy listening to your compositions and playing.
Pretty much that's the guitar I've been playing since 2013, one I built based loosely on a Private Collection instrument, except I put in a fixed wrap-around PRS tailpiece, use Seymour Duncan humbuckers, and the two extra toggle switches are three-way wiring switches for each pickup, allowing them to be operated in standard humbucker, parallel humbucker, and split coil modes. It's been one of my favorite guitars for the last decade.
Those pick ups are based on the 408, I remember Paul doing the Signature private stock guitars that hade those pick ups from like what, 2018? Dang that’s a long time ago and sir your guitar is based on the 408, congratulations on your guitar, and another job well done to Paul!
John McLaughlin is a True Teacher Master of the guitar. John is that peak atop that Mountain . Beautiful guitar. I know Santana and Demeola got there Signature PRS. John is a True Master . Holdsworth and Fripp are in there as well. PRS has there place and this Mclaughlin Model like Modern Eagle V really nailed it. That Mclaughlin Model is Speaking to me. Beautiful instrument.
Now patiently waiting for the SE version with the same switching possibilities! Given how well built and consistent those are nowadays there's no doubt PRS can pull it off! Thanks Paul :)
John is a legend. Not sure I'd want a HP filter switch. It may only involve a cap in series with the pickup. I use caps in parallel to create variable peaks, and sometimes a high-value cap on the treble bleed so I can get a slight bass reduction by rolling the V knob down a notch or so. One good thing about PRS guitars is the extra attention to stabilizing the woods b4 building. They also liberally use baked woods.
PRS makes an impressive guitar. I made the mistake of selling a dark cherry burst 2007 Custom 24 10 Top. I since replaced it with a dark cherry burst 2004 Custom 24 Artist package and a 2018 blood orange McCarty 594. Simply fantastic guitars. I’ve since made the EVH Wolfgang USA my main axe, but I won’t ever sell my PRS. They’re still in the rotation.
In the 1970s he was unmatched. The Mahavishnu Orchestra was Zappa on steroids, check out their live version of Dream and the unreleased tracks of Between nothingness and eternity, supernatural playing
Check out Tory Slusher. She plays a tele. John finally pronounced his name. Mcloff, not mclok. It’s all in the brain, and the fingers. The guitar doesn’t matter.
One of the greatest❤ But never had a good Tone, only once playing along with Santana in Montreux. Guess Carlos tweaked his tone😊 On acoustic John is a god!
Beautiful guitar. 200 lucky people. I recently took the plunge on a custom 24 wood library after saving up, a lot. Was considering a Gibson or Fender Custom shop, but thought I would go with the maker that's elevating the game. PRS doesn't get enough credit. The guitar is unbelievable. It practically plays itself, says in tune, has perfect intonation (as good as I've ever seen), sounds great, and looks amazing. Tele on steroids. It has low wind pickups, which is what I wanted.
i remember when PRS sent me my first CU 24 ($6K) i felt exactly the same way JM describes; you want to sleep with that instrument; exactly the same thing happened when i bought my second CU 24 ($3K); the quality in the craftsmanship is just second to none other guitar i have ever played; it speaks volumes about PRS that he would capture signature guitarists like JM and CS to show the perfection that an instrument can accomplish with love;
I've heard a lot of people mention that, my guess is that he spent most of his life abroad surrounded by ESL people which made him lose the British accent completely.
@silverwhip123 I'm always super curious about it, can never quite place it. I grew up going to international schools and it still baffles me. Certainly has a charm though :)
It is the classic international accent. But also keep in mind his Celtic heritage - you're not hearing just an English accent, but an exceptionally strong Celtic accent as well. So his accent is unique to him.
Why would anyone pay 15k for this when you can order these specs yourself from the PS? I have other similar private stocks, nice guitar don’t see the appeal.
Guardian Angel with Paco De Lucia and Al Di Meola Chiquito live with Paco De Lucia Face To Face with Shakti You Know You Know with Mahavishnu orchestra Trio with Joey De Francesco and Dennis Chambers Some good starting points if you'd like to know
@@spdcrzy: I have listened to This Moment many times and I still have no idea what you're going on about. There isn't anything that is noticeably out of tune on that album. The guitar parts sound great. Can you provide me with a track title and timestamp of a section that sounds as bad as, say, 2:43 into this video? That is simply an out of tune guitar; I've been playing for over 20 years - I trust my ears. Moreover, McLaughlin only uses standard tuning on his PRS guitars; he's even mentioned this in interviews ('I can only play in standard tuning. John McLaughlin is huge guitar and music legend!!! But if you're here you already know it.
Congratulations to John. He deserves the best guitar in the world and PRS has made him one.

Congratulations
This vid is worth it just to hear John riff like he did on Right Off.
But the combination of his playing and amazing tone on “Right Off.” 😳 That was a one off - never to be repeated.
I’ve been a fan of Mr. McLaughlin since 1972. I’ve seen him live many, many times. Always an inspiring figure to me. It’s great to hear him playing some blues.
😎👍💓🇺🇸🎸 LONG LIVE PRS!!!
RELIC FREE SINCE 1985!
That is the worst abomination on the guitar industry in my opinion. I'd rather every company make pointy guitars again.
Hopefully some people realized John was intentionally playing quite basically, in order to showcase the guitar and not himself. That’s class.
Basic, but perfect.
He's rocker as well if he has to.
why does that even matter? who cares
I met John several times and I can only say the best about him. He is a wonderful person plus a musical genius. We should all just thank him.

I have been studying John now since 40 years.......John Mclaughlin is my guru.....who I am looking forward to meeting in person in October....
any chance you have or know where to find transcriptions for his track zakir?
John is legend. Congrats on the new Signature guitar.
It’s so great to hear Mahavishnu plugging straight into the amp again ❤
Really interesting to hear him playing unaccompanied. It's a gorgeous guitar.
Beautiful guitar. Inspiring guitarist. Thanks, Paul!
I love PRS guitars. I love John McLauglin's playing, his Devotion album is one of my favorites and I think it is brilliant.
Never mind scales or discipline...it's about 'flow state', becoming a conduit for the Higher Creative Spirit to flow through you.
The most legendary PRS artist!
Remember seeing John play at the PRS 30th Anniversary Concert at Rams Head when I worked for Paul Reed Smith. He was amazing to watch! 🎉
I was there as well!
looking forward to seeing him in a just a few months. Wonder if he'll be rocking this guitar.
@@nomnom112 I would say yes. Enjoy, he still is great live.
A piece as classy and masterful as its name sakes, John and Paul. What a way to bring back the collection knot inlays as well.
‘John and Paul’ collaborations seem to be magic in music, don’t they?

John looks so healthy at his age and still has the lightning fast technique

That's a cool selection of tones.
Beautiful guitar for a true Master!!!
What a beautiful guitar. Fitting for such a legend of a player. Bravo! ❤❤❤
Beautiful instrument! "Only" $15,000. Can't wait to see him with Shakti in September in San Francisco.
Yeah, sadly, I think the people who can afford it won't really play it. It'll mostly hang on a wall as a trophy.
He's got a great touch ... loved his work for ECM with Zakir Hussein and Chaurasia... i think it was Making music

I think 408s initially came in 2012 with the Brent Mason Collection Series IV. I'm lucky enough to have one - 408s are great!
Hmm, Mahavishnu John, what a great player!
Simply a king of guitar.

Awesome Guitar,Awesome Tone & An Awesome Guy!!! The Amp Doesn’t Sound Too Bad Either 😊
The greatest guitarist that nobody’s ever heard of….. awesome player and pedigree

I’ve always thought eq switches would be more useful then splits. Especially with humbuckers. So freaking cool!
❤Rosewood Ltd.& Singlecut P.S.-Phenomenal guitars❤!
Apart from the honest and full of heart remarks my Mr McLaughlin,
let's all agree that guitar is also fuckin' badass in the design!

A magical Master and guitar
John, ever pointing to the Supreme
Love the guitar... it's gorgeous... 408 vibes... but that watch!!! Vintage AP flex and a custom private stock PRS. what a legend!
You can buy the watch or the guitar. But you can't buy those ears !
Beautiful guitar beautiful tones.
I hope someday I will have my own guitar which is PRS guitar, I will claim it ! even though I can't afford it now but soon
About time. Well deserved, John.
Pretty amazing
If you’d done a Rick Mitrantando signature, you’d have sold out in a day. Please PRS, get with Goose, he’s played your Hollowbody II for years.
That amp sounds fucking immense.
The dynamic range is pretty impressive.
So signature musician aside, what separates this guitar from a Pauls guitar made in private stock with different inlays?
It has a whammy bar.
It's like Kenny Werner philosophy...both John and Paul.
John's nephew is a Berklee trained bass player, and he's very very good.
Magnifico.💰💰💰💰💰💰
Beautiful guitar... but where is the other neck?
The other neck is John´s neck🤣
LOL 🤣
A great soul.
In the 1970s he was unmatched. The Mahavishnu Orchestra was Zappa on steroids, check out their live version of Dream and the unreleased tracks of Between nothingness and eternity, supernatural playing
I like them as well.
AP Royal Oak? Nice...
I’m going to sell both my kidneys to be able to afford this😊 I’m looking forward to it!😊
Just sell one. You want to be around to play it. 😁
Paul, if you make a guitar like the one you gave to Tom Bukovac I’ll buy my first prs guitar.
Is that AP Royal Oak?
Check out Tory Slusher. She plays a tele. John finally pronounced his name. Mcloff, not mclok. It’s all in the brain, and the fingers. The guitar doesn’t matter.
The best guitarist, according to the late Jeff Beck and Chick Corea.
where can i get one?
Shakti and Bitches Brew.......both have expanded music to new realms
Halo beautiful bravo
How much for a double neck ?
That would be a Stradivarius of the future ! John is fantastic , many thanks and happy listening .
❤❤❤❤
One of the greatest❤ But never had a good Tone, only once playing along with Santana in Montreux. Guess Carlos tweaked his tone😊 On acoustic John is a god!
@Dwoed Even Carlos' tone is pretty ragged these days.
So what happened to the Godins that Mr. Mclaughlin used to praise to high heavens?
No need to play those when you’ve got a guitar like this.
Guys, make an SE version of this and I'll have one !
LOL 🤣
I agree with your philosophy 100%! And Paul’s guitars are amazing!!
guitar god
His Carvin guitars are even better! 🤑

For $15k, not many are going to be able to afford it.
He was playing Zakir, also I thought he was playing Godin guitars.
This guitar is fantastic! Unfortunately, not having learned to play will be a frustration that I can only reverse in another life (if I have one).
Nonsense -- start right now !

It’s basically a private stock Paul’s guitar.
10AAA flame top.
Is that 15000 pesos?😊
Another $20,000 PRS
just what everyone needs
Ah yes a signature guitar only a select few people will be able to own.
But, that's exactly the point of a "signature": unique, one of the kind, played (and owned) by the guy who KNOWS how it's meant to be played...
Amazing player, living legend, most confusing accent 😂 it is somehow british?
I've heard a lot of people mention that, my guess is that he spent most of his life abroad surrounded by ESL people which made him lose the British accent completely.

Good to see a PRS without birds!
Like seeing a Fender with dots or a Gibson without blocks?
@@bluzzjazz yes, why not?
Still has all his hair.🥹
He's the Alan Watts of guitar playing.
Why would anyone pay 15k for this when you can order these specs yourself from the PS? I have other similar private stocks, nice guitar don’t see the appeal.
(1) You might be a JM fan.
(2) Can you get those inlays from the PS ?
This guy gave guitar lessons to Jimmy Page…. Enough said…
Never heard of this guy but he plays ok
Guardian Angel with Paco De Lucia and Al Di Meola
Chiquito live with Paco De Lucia
Face To Face with Shakti
You Know You Know with Mahavishnu orchestra
Trio with Joey De Francesco and Dennis Chambers
Some good starting points if you'd like to know
With that watch he can afford three of these guitars.
Shame it sounds slightly out of tune in this video. :( Love McLaughlin though.
It's not tuned to Western scales.
@@spdcrzy: Ah yes, it must be that out-of-tune Eastern sound that PRS wanted to showcase in this video.

If I may be so bold, John; lose the Jazz 3 pick and try a Dunlop Stubbie. It's way better for economy picking etc.
