It’s been said over and over here, but Barrie is such an underrated player, I’d love to hear more of him , such an inspiration. What an amazing right hand technique.
I discovered Barrie Cadogan thanks to this video. For the last couple of days, i've been doing nothing but watching his videos and listening to his music. What a player!
Hey, everyone at Guitarist Magazine, I am so, so grateful to you for the videos you've made with Barry. I've gone back to those earlier videos more times than I can count because they are so inspiring. Barry's an incredibly inspiring player, with such an incredible spirit, his playing always leaves me feeling like I'm back in my early teenage years, just discovering music and guitar. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
they picked the right guy to showcase these instruments , i hadn't herd of little barrie until a few years ago and love his style of playing , a true soulful musicman
Never come across Barrie before and what a great player & nice guy who is very knowledgeable. Definitely be looking out for him again. As far as the guitars go. whoah! As a lover of P90’s that was a real treat. Never ceases to amaze me how many sounds can be had with a quality pickup in beautiful guitar.
When you see Rory Gallagher's and Barrie Cadogan's names mentioned in a RUclips video you know it's gonna be good. Thanks to all involved for bringing this to us.
I have long admired Barrie Cadogan and his natural way to approach the guitar. I'm sure Rory would approve. Killer sounds and technic Barrie as usual. Thanks mate
I love Barrie’s insight and passion and touch. A real live 2024 modern day guitar hero!!! As respectful as those who came before his as Rory, Clapton and Greenie was, perhaps as creative and fluid and unassuming too. A great guy. Deserves all the great accolades and respect he gets
When I saw Leslie West come on stage with a Junior I was aware why the record sounded so good and live - WOOF! Barrie, you have great chops and a great six string.
That melody maker has bowled me over...killer looks and killer sound. Single coils on a Gibson is a marriage made in heaven. Barrie is such a great player ❤
I’ve been a fan for years but I’m more inclined to view him as unknown rather than underrated. Such is the price for following your passion on the fringes of the musical world.
Wow, Mr Cadogan, you're a one-man-guitar-army! Now, there's a few who can do that. What REALLY touches me is that I do hear music - at NO time do I hear technique. And THAT makes me stop, pause & listen. 1975 seems like a good year o.b. for guitar players (25 Jan here myself ;o)...I'll check out Barrie's site right away - oh, and fwiw (I'm just a guy...): I feel someone picked the perfect man to play some of Mr Rory Gallagher's guitars. THANK YOU for some minutes well spent listening!
So I have one of those melody makers. Mine is also a 63 and it identical to Roy’s…mine is all original bone stock. And yes it fits sonically in its on space. Sounds so good. It’s a total swampy blues machine. Killer video! Absolutely love it!
Totally used the right guy. Barrie is awesome and unheard of in a lot of circles. He’s always impressed the hell out of me. I’d like to see him get together with Jared James Nichols. What a combo that would be. Like the Junior the Melody Maker is a great, light electric. Underpriced right now. Buy one whilst you can. Rory just wanted the MM for slide. We need less crap and more talent. Anyone can sound good with a shit load of effects and crap. You can hook it up to a Blues Jr or a nice little Supro and get such great tones. Just bought a new Gibson USA Junior just for fun and honestly I’m using it more than my fancy, expensive LPs and Teles and Strats. It’s forcing me to use the tone and volume knobs much more.
His band Little Barrie are fantastic check out the older album King of the Waves opens with Surf Hell will have you grinning ear to ear. Get a good sound system and play it LOUD!!!
He was Liam Gallaghers guitarist in recent tours too. Which puts Liam up no end in my estimation. Barrie isn’t a young guy though, it seems he’s paid his dues and worked his socks off to get where he is. A great guy.
@@tc8066 I'm no LG follower. I leave that to the pedants who think bass isn't a long scale, 4 string, low register member of the guitar family since Leo amplified one in the early 50's. But thanks for the heads up.
I love Johnny Thunders guitar tone. He played juniors pretty much for his whole career. He had a gretsch for a year and seen him playing a flying v and a telecaster on occasions. Rory was the best electric blues player and acoustic player ive ever heard. He' was amazing really
What can i say. Barrie is a legit Guitar hero of mine. First became aware of him via his stint with Primal Scream. Very much their loss, as they are a lesser live act for him leaving. Barrie oozes class, when it comes to the geeeeetar ;)
I can well remember when Mountain put out 'Mississippi Queen', and people were stunnned to learn that Leslie West had performed that on a Gibson Melody Maker similar to what you have here. Granted, they were produced as 'student models', but the more astute pros knew what to do with them...
Aaaannddd, SOLD! Now Im discovering Little Barrie's music, so good. IMO think part of the rude sound from these instruments comes from Rory's old strings still being on the guitars?
Great sounding guitars.Great sounding Player.Really Enjoyed listening.Have a 61 Melody Maker hanging on the wall I got in 78.It'd take Barrie to make it sound that good.. Best Regards
Agree with all the positive comments. Great video. Also like the shout out about Johnny Carroll, a fabulous player on the London blues circuit. Best to see him live, not on RUclips.
Barrie is the ideal player to showcase vintage gear; the melody maker sounds fantastic in his capable hands.
Yep. The BEST 👏👌🎸
Agreed. 100%
Indeed. He’s got the proper swagger. Business.🎉❤.
Cue every guitarist now learning this new set of licks from Barrie. What a player.
I just thought the same
Man that is NO lie. Dood can play. Amazing.
boy is it hard to decipher those licks in these conditions...but I always try when its Cadogan stuff
no shit.......I've got about five down...haha
I had the same exact thought. ❤
I see Barry on this channel, and I click. I could listen to him play and talk all day! His passion and love for music are inspiring.
It’s been said over and over here, but Barrie is such an underrated player, I’d love to hear more of him , such an inspiration. What an amazing right hand technique.

Being an American I was late to the game on Barrie. He’s quickly become one of my favorites.
Epic display of tone! Love the Badass wraparound on the '58!!
they picked the right guy to showcase these instruments , i hadn't herd of little barrie until a few years ago and love his style of playing , a true soulful musicman
I watch a fair bit of guitar videos, I think this is the best one with how the guy works the guitar. Cool stuff

Barrie Cadogan is SO underrated, killer player!!
Really sweet, Barry pulls the beauty out of those classics. Just love those growls. Effing brilliant.
Every second of this video is GOLD!
A true guitarist and a gentleman. No bullshit. Just class
What a fantastic player. His slide stuff sounds so good 👌🏼 Big respect
One pick up
One Tone
One volume is all I need! Absolutely love my Eastman junior, what a great player 👊
Barrie is an amazing talent. Soulful chops!
What a great player and great guitars. Thanks.
All beautiful guitars!!! Thanks for showing them!
Barrie is thee man! Knowledge, respect and unreal talent! Could listen to him ripping on the gutbox all night!
Little Barrie is always great.
Really enjoyed this little gem…. Stayed for the tasty playing, lovely most refreshing touch and dynamics
Finally someone who play Rory's guitars great
I'd listen to an entire album of Barrie playing blues/r&b and slide guitar. Hes a fantastic player worthy of demonstrating these awesome instruments.
Never heard a melody maker sound so good
So great to see Barrie doing one of these again, he's so versatile.
A nice old Melody Maker and a class A tube amp:
$5k.
Your whole evening of comprehensive and classic tones all in 2 pickups and 4 knobs: Priceless.
Never heard anyone making a melody maker sound that good
Check out little Barry live etc
Leslie West
@@larrypower8659 he was more of a Les Paul Junior guy no?
@@YannplaysguitarSaw him twice playing a Melody Maker. It’s in the hands, anyway.
@@larrypower8659 nice!
I could listen to Barrie all day
Man, Barrie's touch and feel are killer. I love his unpretentious and expressive playing.
Lovely guitar and tone, would've loved to have seen Rory playing this guitar. 🙏👍
I like how he frequently changes his picking hand position. Gives it an interesting change of dynamic/tone.
One of the best guitarists in the world today far as im concerned
That was delightful.
Brilliant playing and video!!
Holy sh*t what a player. !!! Killer
Love this guys playing. To me, it is very musical, meaning music is the main priority in his playing
When I saw Leslie West come on stage with a Junior I was aware why the record sounded so good and live - WOOF! Barrie, you have great chops and a great six string.
I feel like I'm watching out-takes from Crossroads festival.. just... blissful. Thank you.
That melody maker has bowled me over...killer looks and killer sound. Single coils on a Gibson is a marriage made in heaven. Barrie is such a great player ❤
Bsdically same guitar as the Epiphone Olympic apart from the logo.
Nice Work! Peace & Love! WooF!!🐶🐶
Man, that slide guitar sound is amazing!
Good to hear these guitars played with a sweet blues feel, as they should!

That right hand technique is so smooth
Fantastic playing
Love a Barrie video:
“Probably going to embarrass myself here”
Proceeds to nail the technique perfectly. Consistently one of my favourite players
Those chops!! 😮
Barrie! I'm a huge fan✌️
Magical- 'do you mind if I just play for a minute?' !!!
Wow that guy gets some killer tones!
What a phenomenal player!

My buddy Mark, who I met on lake Atitlan guatemala introduced me to Rory and his sound. He passed away recently.

God Barry is a tone master.
Nice sound!
Melody maker sound fantastic!!
Some kick a$$ playing going on here on some historical Les Pauls
Lord that tone!!!
This guy can play
Barrie has sold a few Melody Makers right there!
His right hand is really something.

Brilliant
u gotta have a les paul jr once in ur life 😃
It would have been quite a treat to hear Lightning Hopkins mess around with one vs a strat like he played later in his career.
Barry always delivers!
Guys at Guitarist, could you please let us know what amp the guitars have been played into?
@@Yannplaysguitar it’s an old tweed Gibson Explorer.
@@guitarist thanks a lot for the answer. That thing sounds fantastic
@@guitarist those are killer amps. I love all those “twill” gibsons
And just like that, the prices on the vintage melody maker market shot up, as well as the Juniors of course!
Barrie Cadogan you are the man! When you playing the Barras?
I met this guy at Guitar Center in Nashville, he had a Jazz box Gibson he needed a case for. He and his buddy were nice. Didn’t know who he was.
..... wow.....R.L Burnside..Hendrix and Barrie himself in that first improvisation......my fingers hurt, but I'm going to steal them all....haha
that les paul junior is the perfect electric guitar
i saw Rory live
62 Epiphone Olympic+ 62 Kalamazoo model 2 tube amp sounds the same, that is, if that dude plays em! Thank you !
Wow!
Seymour Duncan made or still makes drop in Melody Maker pickups that are overwound a bit and really sound like P90's.
Wow what a sound Barrie, which tuning is it in slide at 21:00? Greetings from Düsseldorf 🎸🎼👍😎
If you like this , watch Barrie playing a 59 through a cheap Epiphone tube amp , proper talent imo 👍
