Dear Guitarist. Please make more videos with Barrie! He’s such a great guitar player and a delight to watch and listen to.
Probably the best start to a new series. Brilliant idea!!!
I have a RUclips folder that I stash Barrie vids. He’s got some great interviews too just showing his gear. Too good!
@@chriswilliams-lilley3069abso-f**king-lutely!
Barrie is perfect for this, just a gentleman like Rory, so great to hear that vox too
Really appreciate Guitarist for the love and care that went into this video. Rory never gets the attention he deserves over here in America, so things like this are a treat.
I see Barrie playing, and I click. Very inspirational guitar player. I can't think of a better person than Barrie to demo Rory's guitar.
Exactly what I instantly thought 👍
Great to see Daniel taking (his uncle) Rory's heritage so seriously for all of us and posterity. Barrie, who I'd never heard, is a good choice to demo the set-ups: he admits he was not even familiar with Fenders so shows great objectivity as well as empathy.
Barrie is a what I think about when I think cool. Amazing player.
Barrie is one of my absolute favorite guitar players, along with Rory, so this video is an absolute dream.
What a delight! Love Little Barrie’s attitude and playing a lot.
He’s just the perfect player to give justice to this iconic rig, couldn’t have picked anyone better than him.
The tones are amazing, so natural, organic and rich and yeah, so reminiscent of Rory!
Tele sounds like a Tele, Strat sounds like a Strat, those amps are just perfect at amplifying those instruments in the most “high fidelity” way possible.
Thanks for making such a documentary.
Absolutely fantastic thank you Guitarist Barrie and Rory’s Nephew for showing and sharing his gear.
Absolutely love Rory and his music 🎸🎸🎸🎸
As someone who is (shamefully) only becoming aware of the genius of Rory Gallagher at the advanced age of 50something, thank you for the fantastic article in the mag and this great video.
Favorite RUclips video of the year so far! Little Barrie playing Rory’s rig!!!
Bravo Daniel and crew...You're doing your uncle proud....❤🇬🇷
Barrie, a very good guitarist and a gentleman!
"RORY ON"!!❤
Got to see Rory's 61 in person a few years ago. It always looks worn smooth on videos and most photos. But up close (as well as there being hardily any paint on it) almost every inch of it is absolutely covered in gouges and deep dings. Its utterly battered!
And that is not no Phony relic, honest Rory hard workin wear. and Sweat, I heard that is what did in the paint the most. LEGENDARY PLAYER
How does your comment say “4 days ago” when this video went up less than a day ago?
@@Patrick-fm5dk I got the link for the video from inside this month's Guitarist magazine. Maybe it was only available to readers, initially??
Well it was stolen at one point. Found in a skip or ditch. Needs verification. But heard this from a good source close to band.
@@chriswilliams-lilley3069Yes; heard the same story a few times. It’s true.
Rory greatest of all time most exciting guitar player I've ever seen and heard my idol I worshiped him was heartbroken when he died rip legend
This is so awesome! 🎸
Barry is such a great guitarist, Rory total Legend
Nice one David, couldn't agree more👍😎
Great to get these Interesting perspectives on Rory's rigs and so deserving of the 500th issue. At the same time, though, it's hard to see/hear anyone but Rory play that beautiful Strat.
This is wonderful. Thank you 👌🏼
Yikes, sends chills down my neck…love it…Rory was always beautiful and sweet or raw and smoking…he hooked me on Vox…and not being afraid to be a different!!!
That was some incredibly beautiful slide on that Esquire.
Thank you so much for not close mic-ing the amps!! I am constantly evangelising about that, as well as not using pedals, so this was great!
I thought, he uses the Rangemaster?
I agree about the close mic thing……
Do you know what mic that is?
I remember talking to Barrie in Belfast after a Little Barrie gig. We were chatting about Rory. Can't think of a more fitting player to demonstrate Rory's rig. Fantastic player and songwriter.
Thankyou for this. Really enjoyed the presentation and this shows how Rory's music evolved and how he evolved as a great guitar player. ❤ 🎸.
I played a Rory model in a guitar store here in NYC. The best Strat I ever played. It was orgasmic.
Massive fan of both Rory and Barry Cadogan so this on point. Kudos.
G'day, Barrie. Been a long time! VERY importantly, when Rory added the Twin he didn't use the Rangemaster through it. He went direct into the Twin and ran a cable from the parallel input of the Twin into the Rangemaster which was plugged into his Vox. That way he had the pure tweed Twin sound plus the distorted Vox. This has inspired me to take out my old Rangemaster, AC30 and one of my tweed Twins. (I've got three of them!) Thanks!
I can't wait for the Rory special issue of the magazine to hit the US!
Well, that was a truly heart warming thing to watch - and hear
Lots of info on the net about Rory . Saw him 4 times . Great rock & roll memory’s . My guitar hero . All original and he made no compromises ! His cd’s are missing a certain analog quality compared to his records ❤
Grateful to hear this amazing guitar
Brilliant you can hear that sound I loved rory never got to see him live my dad got me into him first album I had defender did it all backwards then got all the rest off albums afterwards 50 this year
My dad saw rory at the marquee with a ac30 on a stool said lodge and mean that's all he needed wow
Sorry he was load and mean taste days
Thank you for this video! So cool to hear Rory's gear.
thanks Daniel and Guitarist, this was amazing.
I could listen to Barrie talk about gear and music all day.
this is brilliant lads
Loved this….great background on his gear and interesting points of simple tone but used very effectively 😊👍
Barrie's like "Sorry, wrong super beautiful-arse chord there."
When Rory got the heavier drummer O Neil in and the gigs were big coming into the late seventies, early eighties he added the Marshall to give a heavier sound for sure, it worked.
Rory preferred the tele lead sound to the strat lead sound.
This is just brilliant!
I got a ac30 vox the hawk flynn amps rory pedal and a dy guitars Rory Gallagher tribute guitar deluxe 899 it's amazing
I have the Fender Custom Shop Rory strat , plugged in a Vox AC15HW1 , no pedal. But I know the Dennis Yau Rory Strat is awsome, and Flynn Amps amp and pedal are great for the Rory tones
25:53 Could have fooled me! This video was like a master class on how to use a Strat. ❤
Absolutely
Excellent! Saw Rory in Toronto Canada! Was my Guitar Hero. Thanks for this video.
that guitar is happy again
Wow. I’m sure that guitar woke up from a long nap. Hasn’t been played that good since Rory
Brilliant video, thank you 😊
Excellent ❤ love Rory🎉😢great program great more like this please
So much respect ❤
Barrie, with Rorys, set up a beautiful history lesson
Great ! The sound of Rory is still alive. 26:58
Thanks that was brilliant
Great video on Rory's gear....I would love a shot of his strat. 🎸🎸👍🙏
beyond amazing!!🙏
Rory seemed to be one that wasn't just overflowing in a creative sense but also understood very keenly what equipment would help him to achieve what he wanted to hear.
I saw Rory twice, both times front row center seat, at the Gaumont Theater in Ipswich England in 77 and 78!
I saw Rory live in 1977 in Belgium.
Barrie demoing Rory’s rig… you can hardly have a more exciting basis for a great video!
I saw this and became a child on Christmas Eve. SO COOL
Same here! My friends make fun of me for being such a fan boy of Barrie 😂
You can, they could have gotten someone more versed into Rory and who can play his stuff. Barri admits he can't and it showed.
Very interesting thank u❤and the guitars so so happy
I read Rory Gallagher and Barrie Cadogan on the same sentence, I click as fast as humanly possible and stop everything I’m doing.
apart from Rory I never heard that sound so good.
Barrie Cadogan is one of those players with the magic touch.
Love Barrie. So soft spoken, but a rip your head off player.
Fantastic!! Thank you and I suppose the Strat in this video is Rory's one...........❤...at least look and sound are very alike!
That strat may be the Fender Custom Shop Rory Gallagher replica.
@@gillesgenete9598 I don't think because Daniel Gallagher introduces Barrie Cadogan and Daniel owns his uncle's guitar
Fantastic to see the great man's gear being demonstrated. We often hear about how much of the the tone is in the fingers; interesting here, to my ears, the only tones Barrie gets that really evoke Rory, are when he plays slide.
Oh yeh what a delightful surprise
Brilliant
Sounds boss Barrie!
This is a very cool video! I amazing gear and tones. What mic are you using on the amps?
So right. I started playing a Marlin Slammer. With heavy strings. No pedals. So you go for sounds yourself. Muting and snuffed bends. If they are even a thing.
Thank you so much, as a Rory fan since the mid-seventies, I couldn't dream of a better choice than Barrie to make Rory's gear singing once again.
Speaking of this school I can never get a Fender to respond well to a Treble Booster, But lets say the dark channel of JMP50 Yeah!
Thanks for making such a great video. Barrie is a guitar player I could listen too for hours. Great knowledge of many genres and you can learn a lot from his playing technique.
That Strat and the combination of the amps and boxes definitely had a signature sound. I keep wondering what price The Strat's going to fetch in the upcoming auction?
Great video! But did Rory use the Vox and the Twin or only the Bassman on Irish Tour?
Barrie is great, but Dom Martin would also be good demonstrating Rory’s gear.
Marcel Scherpenzeel or Davy Knowles could also have been excellent choices, that said Barrie did a great job and made Rory’s guitars sing again.
Ugh my slow-ass US book shops still don’t have issue 500 on the shelves. I hope there’s some new Rory content in this thing once I finally get it! Lol
and thats all he had was the vox just think about it all the bands that came later with all there amps, cabinets multiple pedals.Rory put his amp on 2 folding chairs his chord was mostly at its end when you watch there set.Taste was going to be no more its to bad it happened this way but in my opinion they kicked ass same old story is my favorite.Thankyou to Rorys brother and his nephew for preserving and continuing his legacy and i have no bad feelings about the auction i hope they get top dollar for everything.
I like Barrie Cadogan a lot but I do wonder why him over another guitarist with more knowledge of Rory and his playing style?
Same thoughts here, he even admits he can't play Rory stuff!
they picked the right dude to play this rig , don't know anyone who could do better, Barrie is a monster on the guitar , if he was in his prime in the 60's-70's he would of been a super star no doubt in my mind ..
I don't actually, I hoped to see some Rory licks brought to life but he admits himself "he can't play Rory", and it showed.
@@CookieMonsterJams rory did it his way ,i'm sure he'd be happy seeing some young blood following in his footsteps , not just playing some other cats music , and he did play some rory licks even though he claimed he couldn't ....
@@what1864 Sure, but there are literally way better picks of guitar players who are not only way more familiar with Rory's music but can also play it way better.
Why no mention of Rory’s use of the Hawk iii?
Barrie gave a great players perspective here.
What is the 19 inch unit under the Marshall?
Amazing dynamics from these setups! So much "cheating" now...
What were the settings on the vox at the beginning of
You can hear a lot of hum and noise, vox ac 30 has built in top boost on many versions.
Don’t forget the curly lead can’t believe you not using a curl lead 😮
That Ac 30?? Is a rock box!!!!!
Well at least its not Bonamassa trying to play them. So thank God for that.
I agree. 😂
😂Well said man, that would have been a disaster.
Joes good and a blues man of today. Barrie is the same, someone I love to listen to.
I doubt Barrie would agree. ; )
Trying to play them?
Wait... that's Rory's actual Strat ???? not a copy ???
Yes it’s his strat, not a copy.
yeah. It's a beautiful thing. Fender tried hard on those reproductions but that's a hard one to nail
WAIT, Mr.Owl has been watching & it dawned on him that the Guitar is in Fact ,Rory's. Hmn..
@@warwicksmiley I believe the electronics have been repaired, only one of the tone knobs used to work? was the reason I questioned it at first...
If you didn't know this was Rory's guitar...and it was a blind test...you wouldn't say it was anything special. It's another case of a magical musician, not gear.
🎵🤘👍✌️🎸
The Vox set up was sweet, The Vox/Fender Tweed set up was my favorite, the Marshall set up my least favorite. Just me own opinion.
Take a shot every time he’s says voice
Thank God for Barrie’s existence
Having fun?🎯
It doesent matter...., the tone was in his fingers...., but interesting though....
Another great video is Johnny Marr playing Rory's guitar. You can tell he's a fan having a go. ruclips.net/video/Yt0XlQ1uMDA/видео.html
Hahahahaha Marr looks lost here! It's embarrassing
@@teddyboy9116 Its a low blow to criticise a fan of Rory’s who is quite clearly just noodling riffs be learnt as a kid but when that fan is one of the most acclaimed British guitarists in the past 30 years, it’s your comment that comes across as embarrassing.
@sultanoftippoo3857 I'm a fan of the Smith’s always have been but that was crap by any guitar players standard considering he'd have had loads of practice before the video started shooting ie it was a planned demo.....mate its my opinion I'm entitled to it
@@teddyboy9116 well you must know more than me on how planned this was because he came across as someone who got invited to play Rory’s guitar at someone’s house and was trying to remember chord progressions and licks.
You are quite right though, you are fully entitled to your opinion (which I respect BTW - just thought you were being a bit hard on the guy) as I am in mine in thinking it was nice to see someone with his skills allowing himself to be videoed in a situation where he was simply having a noodle on one of his hero’s guitar not trying to impress anyone.
God, so serious...
So amazing, thank you Mr. Cadogan for test-driving Mr. Gallagher's famous rig.
I really can't imagine anyone else demonstrating this setup.
I don't think that's Rory s Esquire
No one who’s played the Tattoocaster has ever come close to what Rory achieved
Cheers.
Rory's best songwriting was with Taste, glad to see the band mentioned.
