I asked Peter Green in 1997 if he would like to play with Danny again, Peter replied ; " if I could I would have had him on stage with me tonight and everynight" Hi Barrie, I don't know you but I found this as I ve been a Kirwan and Green and kossoff fan since I was 15.(30 years ago😢) Very impressed by your playing and the faithfulness to the Kirwan green line up of your performance. Noticed you did oh well with Jim jones (I ve been a Jim fan since 1989); excellent work🙂👍 I will be researching about you and your work now👍🙂

They all have their own sound, their own style and all three are vastly overlooked. No frill all pure feel and soul. Great version of "Coming Your Way". Thanks for this interview.

I saw Danny K, with Fleetwood Mac, in Philadelphia, in the spring of 1972 (4/28/1972, Philadelphia, PA, Spectrum - West, Bruce & Laing, Spirit, Fleetwood Mac). I believe, Danny quit the band later that summer, in August I think. He would have been 22 when he left. They were touring in support of their “Bare Trees” album. One of the great Danny songs from the album and the show was “Child of Mine”. Give it a listen and you’ll understand what these two guys are talking about. Further, anyone wanting to hear how Kirwan sounded live, in early 1972, search YT for “Fleetwood Mac Live in Seattle - 1972 (audio only)”.
I just came across this and wanted to say that hats off to people like you, paying homage to amazing artists that are overshadowed by others. I’m a huge fan of the intstrumental Jigsaw Puzzle Blues (more so than Albatross) and eventually I learned it was 100% Danny Kirwan.
I love Danny Kirwan and know well the frustration of trying (and failing in my case) to match his vibrato. I just got the biggest grin on my face as these guys burned into this tune.
Very happy to see this. I have been a Danny Kirwan advocate for 5 years now. Fascinated by his vibrato, the variety of his songwriting, and his musical instincts. And how many have played his parts on "Oh Well" and never heard his name? I recorded a Fleetwood Mac 50th anniversary tribute, all songs from the beginning up to the departure of Jeremy Spencer. "Coming Your Way" was one I recorded, though that predates the inception of this project, and wasn't originally meant to be publicly available. I don't have drums, so the percussion is guitar, and you can occasionally hear that my fingers were getting tired from the previous takes on the bending. But I think it captures some of the spirit of the song. The other Danny songs I recorded were "Dragonfly", "Station Man", and "Although the Sun Is Shining", as well as imitating his lead work on "Oh Well".

All three of the guitarists in the first lineup of Fleetwood Mac, were understated, Danny Kirwan, Jeremy Spencer and Peter Green all equally genius on the guitar, Jeremy Spencer often played percussion instruments when he wasn't playing slide
Thank you so much for remembering Danny Kirwan and one of the best blues bands ever Fleetwood Mac ! What a jam band ! They could really play beautifully together and they had great tone ! Love their music and live recordings. Not a day goes by I don’t listen to Fleetwood Mac ! Thank you!
Boys. Well done. I am a confessed nut for the playing of Danny. As an individual he has his own way but his greatest influence was as part of a single instrument (Green and Kirwan as one) in the Original FM. Really appreciate your performance here. You played real concern for who is the guy. Whilst I admire your wish to respect the privacy of DK, we in the antipodes would really like to see a process not unlike the Splinter Group and how they eased PG back into performance. Can Blues Kitchen maybe run a Crowd Funding deal and get a few pound into old mate's pocket and we might get to see him play again. A joy to read so many other comments pleading for recognition of the guy who held FM together when they really needed it.
John Drum Hi John, I just read your comment and I’m sure you probably know by now that Danny passed away last June. I was a friend of Danny but hadn’t seen him for some years since he’d moved to Holland with his Dutch girlfriend. I knew Danny well for a few years from around ‘95. He was a happy fellow and not homeless as newspaper reports and his obituaries stated. He was living at his mum’s when I met him. Danny wasn’t crazy, he wasn’t an alcoholic, he wasn’t a drug addict... he was none of that when I knew him. He had changed a great deal from his younger days but he was comfortable in his own skin although he didn’t go around telling people who he was.. he was just Danny. A very humble and very funny man. For those who care for Danny and his music I’m happy to share my friendship with this wonderful fellow and the fact that he wasn’t in the terrible state the world believes him to have been in. I didn’t have any real knowledge of Danny’s music when I knew him... he downplayed it all and gave me the impression he was simply a side man for Peter Green. I didn’t realise he’d written so many great songs at all. There’s a million questions I’d love to ask Danny now but while I knew him i respected that he’d had a difficult experience (he told me about the Munich acid spiking incident and it was the first I’d ever heard of it) and I met Peter with him once backstage when he was playing with Snowy White (Peter and Snowy White certainly knew who Danny was). Danny was working (as an actor and extra/model) and under his own name. An incident in LA had necessitated Danny having his face reconstructed so he was all but impossible to recognise from his younger self. When I first saw those pictures of a young Danny I was amazed at how differently he looked. Danny played guitar round my place with me quite a few times, but always in fun and lots of laughing was involved. He was a very ordinary down to earth guy with a really interesting edge. Some have said Danny that was difficult to have a conversation with.. I couldn’t disagree more. We often spoke late into the night or into the next morning. I’d expected I’d bump into Danny sometime further down the line, but sadly it wasn’t to be. Exploring Danny’s music in depth since his passing has really amazed and inspired me. Our friendship was based upon humour, laughter and honesty. I’m so glad I knew this brilliant man. I loved Danny anyway for being Danny... I love him all the more now that I can appreciate the brilliance of his musical legacy. Danny was something else! He wasn’t the man so many thought he was... he was far more interesting than that. And much much funnier. Rest In Peace Danny, you Legend!
Danny has moved on but his music will be discovered for many years by the true seekers. I hope one day someone does a really good and true documentary about the early Fleetwood Mac. The Chicago sessions especially. They touched the flame and were a part of it not just influenced by it. Mick Fleetwood said when they first started the sessions the old blues guys were a bit skeptical for awhile until they got into the playing and then they realized these British white guys were the real deal and authentic. Very strange how that works but it does. At the emotional level, the working class Brits experienced many of the same things as some of the black artists such as feeling like second class citizens to the upper class. So I think that comes out in their playing.....the emotion. RIP Danny...your spirit lives on in the music you helped create. Thank you.
Danny Kerwins playing was so “Passionate and Emotional” that he would often be “Crying” during Performances….“Danny was Emotionally Fragile…I often found him to be Crying while playing his Guitar”….(Peter Green)……You “Both” have Captured Danny’s Emotional Playing….
There are so many Fleetwood Mac tunes I always assumed had Peter Green playing solos. Years later, I found out it was Danny Kirwan (thank you Internet!). Kirwan is one of my favorite guitarists/singers/songwriters from that period.
When I saw them in 1970 they did an extended jam on Rattlesnake Shake with the 3 guitarists playing a wicked groove together that went on for 10 minutes.
I've been a Little Barrie fan ever since I got a track from them on a Guardian suplement CD when I was at uni 16 years ago. They've since merged with Primal Scream (a bit) and this video is a prime example of why. Great stuff.
I discovered danny through the Beat Club Dragonfly video. Ive been hooked ever since. Such a sad story behind the man but at least we have what we have.
Really good FM sound!!! Danny and Peter would be so proud of your dedication and countless hours of practice!!! Nice job!!! All the best from a fellow music lover!!! 👍🎶❤️
In 1970 at age 14 I discovered the LP, 'Fleetwood Mac in Chicago'. Not only did it turn me on to a great band in Fleetwood Mac and blues in general, but it also paved the path of discovering the musicians who actually created this amazing genre of music and a lifetime of enjoyment. The lads here do a great job with Danny's tunes and I'm really glad to see the interest in this great band, and in one of the best guitarist's of the time.
They have just uploaded a new one today!! Check it out on RUclips: The Blues Kitchen Presents: Barrie Cadogan & Joe Hollick 'Something Inside of Me' [Fleetwood Mac]. Thank you Blues Kitchen!!!!
These guys really showed a real passion for this type music. Wish they could write some new stuff and do it/perform it. Record it today. I think the early Mac is really not given it's due. Future Games and Bare trees were great albums: Kirwan and Welch, great team with the Mcvie's, mick f. Just forgotten because of the huge financial success that came after. The peter green who actually formed the band, gets some recognition, but not like it should.
I just totally lost my shit! Now that Danny has passed, maybe someone could put together a decent collection of his music from across his career and raise some money for mental health clinics or something. Or a tribute album. There are tons of band who would jump at the chance. One thing the really struck me about Danny's work was its sheer variety. Sunny Side and Something Inside of Me from the same guy? Trinity and Dust? A world class songwriter on addition to being a great player.
Great playing! I played in a blues band in Arizona in the states and honestly both the other guitar player and I were substantially more influenced by Peter Green and Danny kirwan and Jeremy Spencer that Clapton. Page & Beck i listened to a lot. But The old Fleetwood mac was just special. The stuff they did in Chicago with Otis Spann is my favorite. Well my baby is a country girl... anyhow my questions for the gentleman that's playing the non reverse Firebird. Where did you get your strap what brand is it I really like it's very good looking sorry I'm always looking for another strap for another guitar
In other words, Peter Green and Danny Kirwan weren't keen to adopt the "star" stamp that all the others did. They were (are) ordinary folks and preferred to stay that way. What a bizarre choice for this day and age!! And maybe that's why they were so good at playing blues, the music of the common folk. In my mind that's why they are so criminally underrated, they never wanted to join the star system
Spot on, that's so true! and BTW funny you should say that because that's the deal with Barrie Cadogan as well, every word you've just written about Kirwan & Green is how one would describe him.
MasterBluesRockGuitar I was a friend of Danny’s from the mid nineties. Danny was very humble and down to Earth. He didn’t even mention it when he was inducted into the rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It may have pleased him but not enough to mention it. Danny cared enormously about Peter, he didn’t give a shit about fame. Danny got to see Peter get a lot better and start playing again. I met Peter with Danny backstage at Shepherd’s Bush empire and watched from the wings with Danny as Peter played with Snowy White. Today everyone seems to want to be famous. As you say it’s really refreshing to encounter those who don’t care. Danny was the epitome of that kind of man. Didn’t give a shit.
@@LeonDonnelly23 a shame it didn't get Danny in the mood to jump in...the CDs are nice, but at 55, never got to see the original FM lineup...consider myself damn lucky to have caught Peter when he came to NYC with his Splinter group...always thought, one day, just maybe, the original lineup would go into the studio once more...😢😢😢...one for Peter, Danny, and from a different era/style, Bob Welch..

R.I.P... Danny Kirwan...
Damn... spot on with the jam. Very cool
There are so many Fleetwood Mac tunes I always assumed had Peter Green playing solos. Years later, I found out it was Danny Kirwan (thank you Internet!). Kirwan is one of my favorite guitarists/singers/songwriters from that period.
Could you name some please,?
@@ashutoshthapa6936 Coming Your Way from The Play On is one.
Yeah i already knew that one , and also like it this way and temperature's rising too
Could you name some more please?
A lot of the guitar in The Green Manalishi is Danny Kirwan too.
When I saw them in 1970 they did an extended jam on Rattlesnake Shake with the 3 guitarists playing a wicked groove together that went on for 10 minutes.
Amazing! I love to hear this guys playing "Dragonfly" by Danny Kirwan and Fleetwood Mac :)
I wouldn't mind hearing them do Trinity...🤔
I've been a Little Barrie fan ever since I got a track from them on a Guardian suplement CD when I was at uni 16 years ago. They've since merged with Primal Scream (a bit) and this video is a prime example of why. Great stuff.
I discovered danny through the Beat Club Dragonfly video. Ive been hooked ever since. Such a sad story behind the man but at least we have what we have.
I just stumbled upon this. This is fantastic! Thank you for keeping Danny’s spirit alive!
I agree 1000%. Thanks very much.
Absolutely love this I've gone back to watch this at least 15 times wish there was more!
Oh Lordy Mama! This is one blinding cover. Well done boys!
Really good FM sound!!! Danny and Peter would be so proud of your dedication and countless hours of practice!!! Nice job!!! All the best from a fellow music lover!!! 👍🎶❤️
A very very nice tribute. Thank you!
Peter and Danny were the best duo guitar lot of the whole bunch
Bravo!!! Thank you for this.
This is the 5 or 6th time I have watched it.. such a good good video, and performance to honor the great Danny Kirwan !!
They have just uploaded a new one today!! Check it out on RUclips: The Blues Kitchen Presents: Barrie Cadogan & Joe Hollick 'Something Inside of Me' [Fleetwood Mac].
Thank you Blues Kitchen!!!!
Nailed it!
Thank you for producing this video. Fantastic work 🙏👌👍
I sure hope someone showed this to Danny before he passed??!?
These guys really showed a real passion for this type music. Wish they could write some new stuff and do it/perform it. Record it today. I think the early Mac is really not given it's due. Future Games and Bare trees were great albums: Kirwan and Welch, great team with the Mcvie's, mick f. Just forgotten because of the huge financial success that came after. The peter green who actually formed the band, gets some recognition, but not like it should.
RIP
I just totally lost my shit! Now that Danny has passed, maybe someone could put together a decent collection of his music from across his career and raise some money for mental health clinics or something. Or a tribute album. There are tons of band who would jump at the chance. One thing the really struck me about Danny's work was its sheer variety. Sunny Side and Something Inside of Me from the same guy? Trinity and Dust? A world class songwriter on addition to being a great player.
Ugh. So good. ❤
this is great - good music.
Great rendition gentlemen
London live show.. greeny was incredible !
Great job!
The Vibrato Kirwan demonstrates on Ah Well is jaw dropping.
Rest in Peace Danny Kirwan.
Amazing git sound especially the 335?What kind of amp did you use sounds fantastic?!
Where did you get your strap what brand is it I really like it's very good looking sorry I'm always looking for another strap for another guitar
i came upon this vid re reasearching d kirwin for god knows how many times..not researching mr blues kitchen
Then Play On my fave LP, Coming Your Way my fave track - since 1970. Thougt this was a bit fast though!
These guys are good
Pity he is no longer around RIP Danny.
Danny master
Saw him many times.
An overlooked twin guitar duo Kirwan / Greene
