That chibson's maple top looks great, some chibson les paul finish sometimes a bit cloudy, maybe the lacquer or the polish? this one looks right, some say some the latest chibson got fert nips and nitro finish .

Honestly… people get very emotional about Gibsons in general, real or fake.. I found out by making a comment on another channel. I was very proud to have bought my first ever Gibson guitar. I was saying that I have many Epiphones and love them all, but, my New Gibson was genuinely a step up for me… JEEZ… the entire internet came at me!… accusing me of being a “cork sniffer”.. a “delusional idiot” .. a “gullible moron”… that I “clearly know nothing about guitars” …. Real eye opener, but, I’m old enough and confident enough in my own skin to not give a single fuck what some guy I don’t know wants to shout at me because they think I’m Bill Gates for buying a Gibson and saying that it was better than my Epiphones, which i do love. 😄…. Great video. 🙏
Yeah the comments section is tough old gig sometimes. Best thing about social media in general though, is that it's not a real place. Full of blokes who wouldn't dream of being rude to your face.
Even if you can’t afford a brand spanking new, two and a half thousand * add local currency * Gibson, there’s still a thriving “used” market for you to shop around. I don’t have the budget to drop a couple of grand on a whim, but I own a few excellent Gibson Les Pauls - which were previously owned, or used as demos
Excellent video and rant Paul! Spot on. You are a gent. Good to be reminded that there are real issues in the wold like human trafficking and Chibson guitars and the love/hate of them is irrelevant. I like the message of play what makes you happy.... I also agree about being kind in the comments...And I think I spotted the finished headless tele ...nice!! Tight like a tiger that one.
Chibsons are either really good or bad, just like the ones they copy. I’d buy one if I stumbled across a nice one. And there’s nothing wrong with your playing either! Nice chops!
First off, love the kemper 🤣 At the end of the day its the persons choice what they get My first bass was a cimar pbass(Ibanez’s squier if you will) the paint was flaked off the back and someone used a rattle can to try to cover it, got it at a pawn shop. Sold it on and regretted it People get too hung up on what others are doing, do what makes you happy
I’ve never been able to afford expensive guitars, I’ve had squire for years and Danelectro and I love them. It’s only this year I bought my first real fender but it doesn’t make me play more I still pick up my Dan and squire more often than not
I bought a Chibson as an experiment, to see if I could turn it into a half-decent guitar which, in short, I could not. Electronics were crap, so replaced with decent pots, wiring and switches, easy and cheap. Pickups were muddy crap, replaced with DiMarzios , easy and medium cost. Tuners were awful, like holding tension with cotton wool! Replaced with Grovers, easy and cheap. Put perhaps £350 into the guitar, not a lot in relative terms and the experiment was interesting so I don't mind. But, the things holding it back are the neck and frets. Basically, the frets are slightly too large, so force a back bow that cannot be tuned out (truss rod is also crap and does not work on a lot of Chibbies). If your neck is bad then it doesn't matter what else you put into a guitar as it will not intonate properly or have a decent action along its length. I could fix this, but that type of work has reached the effort point where my time is worth far more than the guitar I'd get out of it. The other thing to consider is that there's no resale in a Chibson, so you cannot later move it on. Whereas even a bottom rung Epi will have a buyer somewhere. I have 19 Gibsons (Les Paul, V, SG) from all eras, and you'll never be able to turn a Chibson into a Gibson, no matter what parts you upgrade, as they are fundamentally limited in a few key areas. Can they be made into a playable guitar? Somewhat, but for what you have to put into them to get there, you may as well buy a budget guitar from a known brand as you can at least move it on when you get GAS and you won't have to expend precious personal time bringing the guitar up to snuff. So, whilst there is intrinsically nothing 'wrong' with cheapo guitars, there just seems to be no logical reason for Chibbies to exist, they've not got brand cachet, and in price vs quality terms are undercut by other well known makes. My friend bought a bottom of the range Epi as a Xmas gift starter guitar for her son and asked me to check it out, I was impressed at what she got for her £250.
It sounds like you are on the 'got a really bad one' side of the debate. It does seem less common nowadays but like I said in the video, you never know. The one I have here has no such issues, and if you did ever sell it after upgrades, it's easy enough to put the original bits back on. I tend to agree with you though, I wouldn't personally but one. I also wouldn't judge another man if he chose to either though.
I've been a Tokai user since 1987. I was often asked why I didn't Fender or Gibson them - my response has always been that Tokai Japan is a legitimately excellent brand and I'm proud to use them AND if it hadn't been for the companies in Japan like Tokai, Gibson and Fender would not have been pushed to get their QC act together. Also Tokai made primarily for the domestic market and did change headstocks to differentiate for the export market, and Fender certainly did want them to build the Fender Japan series - but at the expense of Tokai surrendering their brand name which they refused to do - they make their own designs too! You're right - its not the Chibsons per se, but those wanting the logo for cheap - there are plenty of cheap excellent versions out there without Gibson on the headstock.
As someone with the crippling disability of lefthandedness, I was not prepared to pay the shitty handed fee that Gibson used to charge for the pleasure of buying a brand name. Instead I got a custom GS1000 from Gordon-Smith (back in the day of the original owners). Don't get me wrong, fantastic guitar, gigged in loads and 20+ years later it looks weathered and awesome. That said, as a casual house player now, nothing beats a 200 quid Cort GS250 strat copy I got back in 2001. Fantastic cheap and cheerful guitar.
I want a Zakk Wylde CHIBBY. Like you said as long as the neck is strait, frets are good, it intonates well, then it's a winner. Gotta keep Santa's elves employed too.
I love the art forgery world. It's almost unbelievable what they do...

That’s exactly my point. People who buy Chibsons want it to say Gibson on it. I don’t give a fuck about people buying a counterfeit, but it is letting one go, which is illegal. And I’ve known people who’ve been suckered into buying one once it’s gone into the second hand market.
I’d definitely get ripped off 😂, if i bought a Gibson I wouldn’t know the difference between a chibson or the real thing, so I only go for cheap guitars, I’ve got a nice Stagg les Paul type, it’s my favourite guitar, got it for free , also a Stagg Strat type which I’ve just done a relic number on it and changed the pickups etc ( cost me £20 originally) plus a couple of others, and I enjoy playing them ( albeit shockingly) ( only been playing two years) still learning about guitars, great video 👍👍🤠🎸
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on DIY kits that are available. Amazon, Solo, etc... Your videos have me wanting to make my first guitar, but I don't have many tools to work with...so a DIY kit is appealing.
My dream guitar is a Gibson firebird, however I’m a disabled veteran. At 57 years old and just starting my guitar learning journey I know I’ll never be able to own one and that’s ok. There’s an inspired by Gibson Epiphone firebird for 699 that I hope to be able to afford one day. Firebird pickups just sound so good to my old ears. So I can see why someone would look to chibson. I haven’t yet and don’t plan to but never say never.
I bought a Sammick ES-335 a long time ago in Australia and swapped the pickups to Gibson's and it was amazing. I didn't like the name on the headstock, so I sanded it down and just made it plain black. People thought it was a cool guitar and more importantly, I enjoyed it. I released it back into the wild and now someone else is enjoying it. Now I have 3 Gretsch's and a Ric 12 string.
100% agree with the fact that having Gibson on the headstock clinches the deal in many cases. I've considered in the past buying Epiphones (love the Adam Jones signature). The only reason I haven't is the fact that it does not say Gibson on the headstock. Just my take on it. Great video as usual, mate. Thanks for keeping the great content coming.
There's a couple of Chinese factories that will in the future be seen as excellent. These chibson factories will totally build a guitar to you're own spec.
Well said! Love a rant video. I like my Gibson Les Pauls and really lucky to have a couple of them. Mate of mine bought a Chibson Acoustic years ago...I'll be honest I played it and thought it was an amazing sounding guitar. The one thing I would say is that on first sight it looked like the real deal but once you took a closer look it became pretty obvious it isn't. 10+ years later he's still got it and he loves it.
I spent the 1990s working in a guitar shop, and a few things come to mind after watching this. First of all, you get a lot more guitar for your money these days. Even within the Epiphone line, the straight Les Paul they make now is way better than what they were making back then. And adjusting for inflation, they're no more expensive - about £300 then to £450 now. We used to sell the cheapest available starter packages at Christmas (don't blame me, parents wouldn't/couldn't spend the money), and I always did my best to make sure the £89 Encore Strat copies were playable. The likes of the Squier Debut Strats you can get now for about £110 are miles better. And don't get me started on how bad almost all practice amps were back then... Something that was true then, and remains true now, is that small incremental improvements in quality become exponentially more expensive as you move up the pecking order. A Fender Vintera Strat is about a grand versus less than £400 for a Squier Classic Vibe. The Fender Vintera is not more than twice as good as the Squier, nowhere near it, but people will dig that bit deeper into their overdrafts for those small upgrades (ask me how I know). For example, the nitro finish on your Tribute LP makes an incredibly subtle difference to the feel of the guitar, but to apply it results in a substantial hike in price. Even tiny things like the quality of the screws have a significant impact on the price by the time the guitar moves through the chain from the production line to the retailer. I read somewhere that every cost is roughly quadrupled by the time a product reaches a shop (don't hold me to that), so an extra £10 spent on a part at the factory means £40 added to the RRP. Ultimately, it comes down to how much an individual player is willing and/or able to pay for those incremental upgrades in quality. Enough of us are happy to spend the extra to keep Gibson, PRS, Fender at al in business. As for Chibsons, I'm agnostic. I wouldn't buy one simply because I don't have confidence in getting something worthwhile on my doorstep six weeks after ordering, no matter how cheap it is. I'd be interested in you expanding your comments on pickups. I've been dabbling with winding my own, and it's really shifted my perspective on that market. There's a lot of snake oil out there...
Great video and channel definitely love your straight up talking about likes dislikes and the facts from your point of view how can you not trust a Luther!😆... Fulton Street beats sent me in here to check your channel out it's Awesome I can use some Luther tips I can use a lot of luthier tips lol" Fulton Street beats and The World Of Mattias they are awesome cats!! showing us the facts on so much hype I definitely trust them they do deep dives into Chibsons and many others they know Chibsons better than anyone if you ask me they get real deep into the truth for us.. if people don't like our logos they can all go pound sand it's my life it's for my enjoyment and the excitement of it all and it's my cash free country were I live well kinda!😆... Awesome channel I'm sure my repair skills will improve watching you do your thing.. My two OEM Chibsons out play and feel in comfort then most USA by far! I can get in-depth on them but nobody can handle the facts today and don't start with tone wood please we all can prove otherwise like how about Jim lill's videos 😆 or a guitar made out of crayons necks out of aluminum and so on its all to grab your hard earned cash and make the rich richer I'm building a Charley stratocaster two of them one alder one mahogany we will see if I get to different tones out the same amp and same identical electronics and neck...can't wait for that outcome I'm sure I'll notice just more sustain on one of them that's it 😆 only a deer can hear tone wood my one cheap poplar guitar has had a few pick up changes I got all different tones warm and bright and more look at my antichrist SG with China emg's I'll out sustain most guitars out there with poplar wood from a pickup change I don't even have to use a pick! 😆
Thanks for the video. From what you played, which is not crap by the way, I think all of them sound very good. The most important thing to me is how the guitar feels in my hands, especially the neck. I like satin or almost raw necks and hate glossy sticky necks. For me that's a deal breaker. I have an ebony Les Paul Studio and I am going to sell it and buy, possibly, an Yamaha Revstar. Lovely neck.😊
I agree with you completely. Life is too short to argue on the internet about guitars or anything else (never solves anything). You are wise Mr. Richards (also a wise-ass, which I enjoy immensely). I’m old enough to remember life without the internet, and to remember that people rarely treated each other in person like they do in a comments section. Much praise to you sir.
Thanks Paul for your insights. I agree, the EMG's do sound slightly better than the others, to be honest I don't mind the pickups in the Chibson too. I'm a builder too, as well as a Bass player. The number of mindless arguments I have seen about using and not using a pick on a Bass is ridiculous, just play what sounds right to you people. Merry Christmas to you and your Family mate, and looking forward to more builds next year.
Its true most people are after the cache of the name....which is fine with me....I'm not going to get bent because someone likes something I dont...Life is way too short for that kinda bullshit...I just want to make the best guitars I possibly can, so when someone picks one up and plays it there's a big goofy smile on their face ....thats what its all about at the end of it all....happiness....thats all that matters. Cheers Mate ! ( getting close to 10000 subs !!!! ) and all the best in the New Year !!!
As usual Paul you are spot on with your rant, I know it comes from years of experience and straight from the heart. I have always said sound is different for each person. And I wouldn't have it anyother way. Life would be boring if there was only one thing, one sound or one of anything. Except of course if it was me. LOL.
Not everyone wants a Chibson for the name on the headstock. For me, it was a combination of curiosity and wanting the right shape. Non-Gibsons just look wrong with the different body shapes and different headstocks, even the Epiphones. I bought a "Chibson" decal and covered the Gibson logo on the headstock with it. In my case, I compared a Chibson Greeny to an Epi Lazarus (converted to Greeny) and a Gibson Greeny. The chibson didn't really compare to the Gibson, but it was so similar to the Epi that I couldn't justify keeping the Epi anymore.
People listen with their eye's. Never,a truer word said. I've been a guitar tech for 30 years and as a young man it took me round the world but these days it's set up and replacements that pay the bills so thank God folks love a brand name. No idea how many replacement pickups, pots, bridges ect I've done for the worse in my opinion but it makes the customers happy so that's all that matters. Excellent rant bud.
My first guitar was a Yamaha ERG121, came as part of a starter set when I was 17. I bought a few more guitars early on... Ibanez, Vintage, LTD, couple cheapo knock offs (unknowingly)...A few years later, the girl I was with at the time bought me a Gibson SG Standard for my birthday. Beautiful guitar. But this is what I learned.... it doesn't matter what brand of Guitar I pick up... I'm never going to be Joe Satriani. I'm shite!
Awesome video - fun, informative and FUNNY! hanks for this cool look at Chibsons and for boiling it down to the basic truth about the guitars we choose to play! You rock! And I disagree with you - you're an excellent player, not just a great guitar maker!
as a person who just today received his first guitar i suppose you have to like/love the style or shape whether it was made in china or anywhere else you can get good or bad anywhere nice info Paul 👍
I’ve had a cheap shitey Les Paul style guitar for years, no branding on it anywhere not even fake branding , I sold some guitars this year to make room and that LP was the only one I kept and still play. It can sound awful it can sound fine and I like it and enjoy playing it, I look forward to making my own guitar too which I’ve already started with a big bit of inspiration from this channel
Not directly on point, but tangentially relevant and potentially interesting: I have a 2003 Gibson Les Paul Custom. A client gave it to me brand-spanking new (it still had that intoxicating, heavenly Gibson lacquer fragrance). At the time, it cost $3,000 US. Within a few years, the thing started buzzing all over the neck. I took out my fret rocker and confirmed that multiple frets were high (or low). Not sure how that happened -- the neck was still good and straight -- but it happened nonetheless. So I swallowed hard and gave this $3,000 guitar a fret-level-and-polish. More than 15 years later, it still plays beautifully. BUT I HAD TO LEVEL AND POLISH THE FRETS ON A GENUINE LES PAUL THAT COST $3,000.
You are a seriously funny bugger. I must say as a 17 year old I was dead against fender, it was the time of pointy super strats with outrageous paint and trem systems, as a 30 year old I wanted a REAL fender but eventually settled for a made in Mexico, close enough, another 23 years on and I couldn’t give a bigger about name, I like all shapes, tend to play a strat or Tele shaped object, mostly not my fenders and have no need for die hard brand loyalty. I agree not everyone can or wants to pay a premium, I’m not worried but for playability
There's absolutely no denying that a halfway decent Chibby can be turned into a lovely guitar with a bit of spit and polish and the right skills. I've seen that one and it's pretty as a summer's day and feels lovely. Just to play Devil's advocate for a moment, how would you feel if I started milling a bunch of gash guitars from my shed with Richard's on the headstock? Would you want to protect your brand? And how would you feel about the people I was selling them to for £75?
Couldn’t agree more. The only bit that made me angry was your friend finding knock off electrics, shame on the person that sold it to him. Keep it up Pabs, I like these little side vids.
I could possibly be the oldest viewer on here lol but listened to everything in your comments and have to say we'll said young fella fully agree to all you said for me it's simple if you want a chibson guitar buy one don't even try to justify it to anyone no matter how much twisting is done especially if they try the mines better than yours attitude it's probably not grow up ffs 😂😂😂😂 excellent video buy the way sir.😁
Thank you boss. I wasn't keen on releasing anything negative but it seems to be largely well received. Perhaps the internet has some room for common sense after all?
Back when I was a teenager, you could find a bunch of good Gibsons in pawn shops and music stores for practically nothing. I remember getting a mid-80s purple burst flying v that was essentially new at the time in trade for an '86 Charvel Model 3 (Japanese) that I'd spent a year beating the shit out of and only paid $400 in the first place. Now they're knocking them off in China. Had I been able to buy guitars like Warren DiMartini's crossed swords guitar or other then-famous guitars for a couple of hundred dollars back when I was a teenager in the '80s, I absolutely would have filled my room with them just because I thought they looked cool.
Great video mate... My two penneth... when I play live I have guitars worth over 10k and others under 150 quid. They are all relevant because I love them! What is on the headstock is irrelevant what comes out of the amp is what punters hear and when they come up me to afterwards and ask the reply is often "it's a piece of shit but it plays well and sounds amazing'... nuff said. acoustics on the other hand are a different matter :)
I had a Chibson, I put humbuckers in i made myself. Was the best guitar I've played until recently when I got a Harley Benton Les Paul. I've played real Gibson and they feel superior in terms of finish and build quality but play wise and sound there are plenty that compare imo and to my ear.
Jolly good video, Paul, I agree with most of what you've said--which is basically, don't get your knickers in a twist over other people's opinions. Having said that....here's my opinion.... My issue with Gibson is that they're no longer a guitar manufacturer--they're a lifestyle brand. They lean into their reputation for being expensive, just like Louis Vuitton etc and their guitars are, for a lot of people, more about showing off that they can afford a 'proper' Gibson Les Paul, regardless of whether it's that great of a guitar (it's not--you can get just as good or better for half the price). I've even heard of bands who insist their guitarist has to have a Gibson, they can't have a cheap guitar, even if it plays well, cos it doesn't look cool on stage. And that's all been cultivated by Gibson and their PR guys, leaning on heritage, exclusivity of certain models, keeping the price high etc in classic luxury marketing style. So, for me, if Gibson have deliberately cultivated that reputation and are, frankly, ripping off many of their customers, I get a sneaky bit of joy when I see someone stick it to them and say "I'm gonna get all of that prestige on stage by getting a Chibson, without handing over stupid amounts of money". In the old days, when I was a little more judgemental, I'd have frowned, but nowadays I chuckle and think "good for you" 😁
@@Milehousestudios 👍 But also "Early on in my RUclips career"....it was three months ago! Are you speed running it?! Can we expect a dodgy collab with Mr Beast and a crypto scandal in the coming weeks? 😅
I got an epiphone and I love it. I've got it secondhand back in the 70s and I still play it. It's a single pickup coronet and it's gucking ugly as sin because it's been all over the world and has about 2mm of red paint left.
The Gibson headstock is no different than the million Stradivarius violins in the world. All you have to do is listen, and the tone contrast is immediate. For the price of one custom shop you can buy the entire Chinese collection, from the SG, LP, L7c, double neck & B.B. King 335 to the Johnny Smith copy.
Id love a chibson, id screw it up just as much as i have my gibson and make it unoriginal and my own :) Every geetar is there for a tinkerin 😈 The headless is awesome sir, you clever sod you ;) Bloody love this channel :)
I must say that this video is 💯 fact based. I myself like certain chibsons from certain builders. Not to resell, but rather to collect. My models are mostly signature models. Some could never be acquired if they were authentic. They are a great piece of rock n roll memorabilia. To have on the walls. But happen to play well also. There is a huge range of quality in the chibson range as they can be built by the lowest bidder. However, some can be simply outstanding, but also pricey entering the 6-7 hundred dollar range for all of the features we would expect on a high end guitar, such as a bone nut stainless frets, it's pots, orange drops, maple cap. Etc... but still couldn't be done here in the USA for that price. In the end, the name is just having what your guitar heroes represent. I mean, who would want an Angus young SG that didn't say Gibson? But also I have a James Hetfield OGV copy that says Gibson on the trussrod cover just like his. His was not a Gibson either. But the point is James guitar says it. It's a fan's guitar, nothing more. I love all guitars . Low end high end and everything in between. Some hate me for my Chibson's. Some love me for them. I say all guitars are just guitars. Don't get bent all out of shape over other people's things. You've hit the nail right on the head. This video was a very excellent look at the truth. In the end who cares? We will all play a d collect what we like. We are not all the same, but let's respect each other. Your brutal truth earned a subscription from me. Thank you for taking the time to voice your thoughts brother 🙏 . I felt at home watching your video.
Just checked out your channel... Fuck me your viewing numbers are astronomical 🤣 proof that the affordable guitar market is on fire. Looking forward to some of your videos over the holidays
@Milehousestudios Thank you brother. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and your family. It's refreshing to see an amazing real channel like yours in the vast sea of sellouts .
Ive been a gigging guitarist off and on for 40 years. Have owned and gigged a few top end guitars and stiil do, but you know what I get asked about most? The Fking cheap red Squier I used to play in the 80's and 90's Lol ....should have saved me money. lesson learned next time around!
Your spot on Paul opinions are like arsehole, everyone has one! and you'll never win an argument against someone how has already made their mind up. You are a legend in your own Naafi break 😄
19:30 “I’m a catch and release guitar collector!” Just brilliant! 😂😅 I have almost always bought my guitars (apart from the occasional interesting eBay cheapies), based upon their feel (neck profile, weight, and balance). Simply because, all of the mechanics and electronics, can easily be replaced. And let’s face it, the vast majority of guitars are cut and carved by CNC machines, so the chances of a dud, are pretty slim. I have a number of “cheaper” guitars, that I have easily turned into extremely “gigable” instruments. Sadly, corporatism’s strangulation of virtually all markets, the guitar and associated goods market being no exception, has led to Asian manufacturers resorting to selling forgeries, in order to recover some of the pathetic money that the giant corporates are willing to pay these makers. That said, I believe that, at least “low output” (eg Boutique builders), should be recompensed, by way of a small percentage of the purchase price. I understand that this would effectively be a tax, but wouldn’t you rather know that your tax will go directly to small and/or local builders. Love your channel, merry Christmas
Nothing wrong with your playing Paul! People will always get offensive about anything, which has been made worse by the internet. (God I miss the pre-internet days…) You are right though, the only thing people really bitch about is the name on the headstock. They don’t moan about Hohner, Mayback and Eastman (for example) making cheap Les Paul copies. Even PRS started as a former Gibson employee that decided to branch off and do his own knock off Les Pauls. It’s amazing what a name on a headstock can do. But as you say, who gives a toss. Guitars are there to be enjoyed, regardless of who made them. If you enjoy playing them , it is all that matters
Personally, as a fellow builder and lover of Les Paul's. I totally disagree with chibson, mainly because there are too many people out there who will sell them on as genuine to unsuspecting folk. If your going to make something, have a bit of pride and put your own headstock/logo on it. As for cheap Chinese guitars, my first ever kit build was one and it's a fucking great guitar. With upgraded p'ups and a good set up it sounds and plays as good as any of my genuine Gibson's 🤷🏼
Another excellent no bullshit video 👍🏻👍🏻 That’s exactly what’s wrong with the world, people just need to be nicer to each other and stop being dicks. 😊😊
That chibson's maple top looks great, some chibson les paul finish sometimes a bit cloudy, maybe the lacquer or the polish? this one looks right, some say some the latest chibson got fert nips and nitro finish .
Love a fert nip 😉

Yeah the comments section is tough old gig sometimes. Best thing about social media in general though, is that it's not a real place. Full of blokes who wouldn't dream of being rude to your face.
I think most people argue about guitar stuff to avoid the most terrifying thing to them: practicing.
Beautiful bit of wisdom there. ❤️
Yes! Thats so true. Hour after hour fighting with yourself, practicing. Its easyer to comment on someone, then comment on yourself.
What a refreshingly straight forward, honest, low BS video.
Good one!
Cheers mate

My first bass was a cimar pbass(Ibanez’s squier if you will) the paint was flaked off the back and someone used a rattle can to try to cover it, got it at a pawn shop.
Sold it on and regretted it
People get too hung up on what others are doing, do what makes you happy
I’ve never been able to afford expensive guitars, I’ve had squire for years and Danelectro and I love them. It’s only this year I bought my first real fender but it doesn’t make me play more I still pick up my Dan and squire more often than not
Because they're familiar and you've got history. it's amazing how much more important that becomes as we get older
The history is almost as much fun as the mystery.....
Seriously brilliant, my friend! So many existential points!

I've always said, "It's not the guitar, itself, that matters; but rather, it's what you can do with it that makes it special" ~
Weird....I heard the same analogy used for cocks....
I love my Gordon Smith guitar, so much nicer to play than a Gibson thanks to the fat bastard carve
I want a Zakk Wylde CHIBBY. Like you said as long as the neck is strait, frets are good, it intonates well, then it's a winner. Gotta keep Santa's elves employed too.
@@PopeyeFPV you can buy my epi 🤣 it's on eBay right now 😉
@@Milehousestudios Noooo! It's gotta say Gibson on it! 😂....I bet your EPI is a better guitar for sure though. 💯
Love this! Can you imagine Leonardo and Rembrandt getting all verbal about the brand of paintbrush? It's all in the PLAYING. Errr... or the painting!
That's absolutely the case. It's shit, but also, completely out of our control at this point. Educate your friends and be kind to everyone. X
Rather than buy a chibson, buy a cheap guitar by east coast or antiquity and if you want to mod them. Love your videos btw dude!
Cool, thanks! The cheap guitar market in the last 10 years has really gone insane. The youngsters are spoiled 🤣

Yeah, we can't help liking nice things, even when we know they're not better 🤣
I’d definitely get ripped off 😂, if i bought a Gibson I wouldn’t know the difference between a chibson or the real thing, so I only go for cheap guitars, I’ve got a nice Stagg les Paul type, it’s my favourite guitar, got it for free , also a Stagg Strat type which I’ve just done a relic number on it and changed the pickups etc ( cost me £20 originally) plus a couple of others, and I enjoy playing them ( albeit shockingly) ( only been playing two years) still learning about guitars, great video 👍👍🤠🎸
Thanks for the comment as always boss. The Stagg sounds perfect.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on DIY kits that are available. Amazon, Solo, etc... Your videos have me wanting to make my first guitar, but I don't have many tools to work with...so a DIY kit is appealing.
There's one coming up in the new year
@@Milehousestudios Sweet! Looking forward top it!
I'm not sure t'internet is ready for this sort of empathy and common sense, great vid as always.
Cheers mate. Merry Christmas
There's a couple of Chinese factories that will in the future be seen as excellent. These chibson factories will totally build a guitar to you're own spec.
It'll certainly be interesting to see where they are in another 20 years for sure
The only thing that concerns me about knock off anything is the crooks that try to pass them off as the real deal. Buyer beware applies in that case.
I agree with this. Once they’ve changed hands a few times then the origin becomes a little more vague and honest people are getting scammed
One should NOT care about Chibsons. Milehouse Knobcasters, though? Those are dope as hell :D
Great vid full of wisdom. Love the headless tele with the Allan Holdsworth vibe
Well said!
The pick up market is the most criminal market in the guitar scene by a mile. The prices baffle me.
Fact: they are counterfeit garbage that can’t even be sold to your friend legally…
Lol!!

I love a Revstar. Good choice
I agree with you completely. Life is too short to argue on the internet about guitars or anything else (never solves anything). You are wise Mr. Richards (also a wise-ass, which I enjoy immensely).

Thanks Paul for your insights. I agree, the EMG's do sound slightly better than the others, to be honest I don't mind the pickups in the Chibson too. I'm a builder too, as well as a Bass player. Great minds and all that....
Perfect summary, rock on 🤘🎅🤘🤶🎄🍻🇦🇺 there's not much sound difference between them.
Great rant! A lot of fun.

That was a good dose of common sense....................... now get back to making sawdust please! Thank you for all the great build videos.

I'm shite!

Music to my ears, pun intended. X
And you wouldn't be alone either. She does sound nice. Isn't it more alarming that a 2003 guitar is 20 years old. Doesn't sound right does it 🤣
I could care less about the name on the headstock. I just like the way the guitars look.
They are things of beauty
You are a seriously funny bugger. I must say as a 17 year old I was dead against fender, it was the time of pointy super strats with outrageous paint and trem systems, as a 30 year old I wanted a REAL fender but eventually settled for a made in Mexico, close enough, another 23 years on and I couldn’t give a bigger about name, I like all shapes, tend to play a strat or Tele shaped object, mostly not my fenders and have no need for die hard brand loyalty. I agree not everyone can or wants to pay a premium, I’m not worried but for playability
That's it exactly. If it does it for you, that guitar is meant to be. Thanks mate.
…lovely “I Could’ve Lied”!!!
That whole album is world class ❤️
There's absolutely no denying that a halfway decent Chibby can be turned into a lovely guitar with a bit of spit and polish and the right skills. I've seen that one and it's pretty as a summer's day and feels lovely. Just to play Devil's advocate for a moment, how would you feel if I started milling a bunch of gash guitars from my shed with Richard's on the headstock? Would you want to protect your brand? And how would you feel about the people I was selling them to for £75?
🤣 Imagine thinking my name would add value...

@Milehousestudios Haha possibly 🤣
They're undoubtedly art, as well as tools. It's just fucking cool
Very true....£10k? Ho lee fuck. What are they?
I had a Chibson, I put humbuckers in i made myself. Was the best guitar I've played until recently when I got a Harley Benton Les Paul. I've played real Gibson and they feel superior in terms of finish and build quality but play wise and sound there are plenty that compare imo and to my ear.
To everyone's ear if they're being honest. I must try a HB.
Preach Milhouse! 100% facts!
In the old days, when I was a little more judgemental, I'd have frowned, but nowadays I chuckle and think "good for you" 😁
'Good for you' is a wonderful frame of mind for everyone that realises. Thanks for watching sir.

Great video
They are now making counterfeit red special guitars, yes, Dr Brian May guitars. No idea how good tgey are though
Do you think they're oak like his?

19:30 “I’m a catch and release guitar collector!” Just brilliant! 😂😅
I have almost always bought my guitars (apart from the occasional interesting eBay cheapies), based upon their feel (neck profile, weight, and balance).
Cheers Tony. I've often been described as low out put 🤣 Mrs Richards can be very harsh
Nothing wrong with your playing Paul!
People will always get offensive about anything, which has been made worse by the internet. (God I miss the pre-internet days…)
You are right though, the only thing people really bitch about is the name on the headstock.
That's it in a nutshell.

That was a little factory, lol
Personally, as a fellow builder and lover of Les Paul's. I totally disagree with chibson, mainly because there are too many people out there who will sell them on as genuine to unsuspecting folk. If your going to make something, have a bit of pride and put your own headstock/logo on it.
As for cheap Chinese guitars, my first ever kit build was one and it's a fucking great guitar. With upgraded p'ups and a good set up it sounds and plays as good as any of my genuine Gibson's 🤷🏼
Well said fella
Lot of sense said in this video mate.
A rarity I'm afraid 🤣
Another excellent no bullshit video 👍🏻👍🏻
That’s exactly what’s wrong with the world, people just need to be nicer to each other and stop being dicks. 😊😊
Amen brother
Mine does not have the gibson on it and all I needed to do was adjust the actioin.
Bootiful outcome
Testify! 🙏😂
Have a chibson , and plays gr8.
Very familiar story for sure
