  • Wrongly convicted as teenagers for a crime that shocked New York City, the five men who came to be known as the "Central Park Five," who were exonerated by a jailhouse confession and DNA tests, are the subjects of a new Netflix miniseries. Correspondent Maurice DuBois talks with Yusef Salaam, Antron McCray, Raymond Santana, Korey Wise and Kevin Richardson, and with Ava DuVernay, director of "When They See Us."

    So the only reason these men are free and exonerated is because a KILLER had more compassion for them than the police.

      @@sparrowsknow8491 two things:
      1. Trump (just like Farstein), never backtracked or apologized. Even in 2016, when asked, he continued to insist that he wasn't in the wrong and that he still thinks the 5 boys were guilty in some way.
      2. More importantly: Trump's story is quite different from the, say, white women who were say out there picketing calling for justice or something. THAT is understandable. Trump spent an exorbitant amount of money taking out full page ads calling for these boys to be hanged...and this is important: WEEKS BEFORE THE TRIAL. The first of Trumps ads happened only 2 weeks after the arrest, long before the boys were on trial or actually convicted. Not to mention the case was always fairly flimsy, something you MUST take care to note when calling for death penalty. You can take back sending someone to prison, you CANNOT take back a death.
      EVEN if you believe that Trump was in the right to publicly call for execution of criminals (let's not go into a debate about the ethics of capital punishment): the fact of the matter is, he did so LONG before anyone had any right to "be sure of the boys' criminality", in any way. And even AFTER they were exonerated, decades after - he continues to double down on this and insist that he did nothing wrong, he won't apologize to these 5 men, and that he still believes they are guilty somehow (a position shared by Farstein, to this day, who still insists that nothing wrong was ever done).

    • @sparrowsknow8491
      @sparrowsknow8491 5 лет назад +13

      Tj H there is still compelling evidence against them. They brought up “not raping the woman” before the police had even found her. Why would they say that? The closing statements of the prosecution said that they knew there were other people involved in the actual rape that they weren’t able to find. Reyes was that person(s). The boys were not actually convicted of raping, but that they were complicit because they held her down and assaulted her. There’s still more to the story.

  • @ucheok4562
    @ucheok4562 5 лет назад +13247

      It's true he should not have told his son to lie, but notice he told him to lie AFTER talking to the police. The police might have lied to the father and told the father that his son could go home if he admitted to it. It is possible that the father may have been so terrified for his son that he told him to lie, thinking it would get him out of there and get him a plea deal or some kind of lighter sentence.

There are a lot of the same instances that happened in america like the scottsboro boys, or black wall street, where a lot of innocent young black men lost their life. And countless others that you wont hear unless you visit a local african American Museum. I did and took my son to one in texas, too many stories where they just killed anyone black, because of an alleged rape or even just a cat call. SMH.

When we finally had to sit down as a jury to discuss the case...I was the only one that sided with the person that brought the suit on...I remember one of the jurors said to everyone he was ready to go home so we should just agree on a side so he could leave....at that point I realize the legal system was broken...if this was a civil case...I can only imagine a criminal case being handled by inpatient jurors who just want to get on with their lives without considering the damage they may inflict with a bad judgment. Walter Castillo I completely understand you. I sat on a criminal trial and we all felt that the defendant was guilty but the evidence wasn't there to support it. There was one juror there who didn't even want to examine the evidence. She just kept saying I feel like he's guilty. We finally got her to listen to the evidence and she came around. We found the man not guilty based on the evidence. We found out after the trial that just about every bit of information that we said was missing was information that was not admissable. If we had it we would have convicted. I don't feel bad about that because I rather free an guilty person when all the pieces aren't there versus jailing an innocent person just because I fee like they did it and not based on evidence.

      Taken to the scene of the crime by a detective and a prosecutor the following morning, Wise said, “Damn, damn, that’s a lot of blood. ... I knew she was bleeding, but I didn’t know how bad she was. It was really dark. I couldn’t see how much blood there was at night.” (She’d lost three-quarters of her blood.)
      The police also had incriminating testimony from friends and acquaintances of the defendants.
      • Wise told a friend’s sister, Melody Jackson, that he didn’t rape the jogger; he “only held her legs down while Kevin (Richardson) f---ed her.” Jackson volunteered this information to the police, thinking it would help Wise.
      • Two of Wise’s friends said that, the next day, he told them, “You heard about that woman that was beat up and raped in the park last night. That was us!”
      Yeah. That poor guy that did a little time and then was given millions of dollars for holding a a girl down while she was beaten into a coma and raped repeatedly. What an inspiration.

      Ummm... don't beleive the BS. They are guilty as sin. DNA revealed there was a 6th attacker, not that the CP5 were innocent. They confessed to the whole thing and described things the cops didn't even know.

      hepwo91222 they were all forced to make up their stories and confess to a crime they did NOT commit! there’s a reason why ALL of their stories conflicted with each other. there’s a reason why none of their DNA was found at the crime scene. come on now, you really believe a group of 14-16 year olds who never got into trouble with the law before and did not know each other (except for Korey and Yussef) banded together to beat and rape a woman?

    They all look so unhappy, so broken. They'll never fully heal from this...it's 30 years later and they still hurt. I wish that one guy had made peace with his Dad though. His Father was not strong, but he was doing the only thing he thought would bring his child home. All these people and relationships destroyed for nothing.
