They became known as the Central Park Five. Donald Trump took out full-page ads in New York newspapers calling for their execution. Then, in 2002, their convictions were vacated after the real rapist came forward and confessed to the crime and his DNA matched. By then, the Central Park Five served between seven and 13 years in jail for the assault. The city settled with them for $41 million. But as late as last week Donald Trump still claimed they were guilty. We speak with Yusef Salaam, one of the Central Park Five, who writes in The Washington Post that "Donald Trump won’t leave me alone."

I am and my heart is heavy,I heard about it back in the late 80's but never really paid it much attention taking for granted they were guilty basically because I didn't follow the case but after they were found innocent after serving all that time well they got my attention now and knowing all the facts and seeing that Netflix movie it left me feeling not good at all.....as for the money they received yes they won the lawsuit but I heard one of the guys say they split 40 million amongst them the ones serving the most time incarcerated received the most however the lawyers and court recieved about 40 percent so they ended up with 2 in a half million something like that,right now I'm happy they are alive all seem to be in their right state of mind I imagine they struggle daily money can not erase what they went through, For their sake I'm glad Justice was served at the end

And don’t forget, they had to pay lawyer fees, then share it! Some of the men gave money to their parents, to recoup their retirement savings that they had used for bail money and other legal fees! Some have donated large sums to Innocence Projects, so others can get help!

To Yusef and the central park 5. In all your interviews please start to name the police, detective, district attorney and judge who knowingly and falsely put you in jail. They need to be judged in the court of public opinion for what they did to you guys. If you can't incarcerate them at least let everyone know how corrupt they were.

Maybe not in the movie, but Kevin mentioned in an interview once that a police officer did in fact ask him what happened to his face. When he told him that one of the other officers hit him with his helmet, he said the officer got aggressive and confrontational questioning him as if he was lying. I suspect that interaction intimidated him so much that he didn't bring it up again with other cops again. He seemed to catch on that they would protect their own and didn't want to hear anything about their colleagues doing some suspect mess.

Ok "the woman so badly injured will never be the same", what about the young men who were wrongly accused and cant get back their youth. Growing up in the prison system, being beat and abused but he feel he is justifiable for saying what he said about these men. My heart goes out to this woman and I pray no one will every have to deal with anything like this and I hope she is healing from this ordeal, but all the people who were victims and convicted in this case will all need help healing. Thank GOD these boys wasn't executed then later found out they were killed for something they did not do. My heart truly goes out to Korey Wise he got the worst end of everything. I am 56 and remember this like it was yesterday. You can't imagine how sick i felt when i heard that Mr. Trump was running for president. I beleived that the citizens of the United states would never let someone who so blatantly ignores facts become our comander and chief. I was wrong. Same on Trump but shame on our society.

They confessed to things the cops hadn't even known had happened yet. Witnesses had identified them as a group assaulting people at the park. People talk about their confessions being coerced but one of them confessed with his father present. DNA is also brought up as something that clears them, but DNA collection was in its infancy and the victim couldn't be examined in a morgue in a controlled setting because she was alive and the boys were in custody a while before their clothes were examined. One of the boys even had charges from a previous assault at Central Park. They all had scratches dirt, blood and some had semen on their clothes.

So basically, your "argument" is all speculation, or irrelevant to the case at hand. The fact remains, there is not, and never will be, any evidence that ties them to the crime. Salam was deprived of food, sleep, and water, for 24 hours before confessing. That sounds coerced to me.
Their convictions were rightly vacated in 2002, and the actual attacker was confirmed to have done it by DNA that same year. Donald Trump, because he is an egomaniac who is physically incapable of ever admitting when he is wrong, doubled down on his bullshit statements about this case. If I were one of the Five, I would sue that old racist for every penny he's ever made (inherited), for spreading false allegations about me without a shred of proof.

Everything I said was a fact. The boys don't even deny being in the park that night committing assaults. 2 of the boys by their own admission didn't penetrate the victim, but held her down and one dry humped her, which would eliminate 2 of the 5 from vaginal DNA, but aiding and abetting in a rape still gets you a rape charge.

I believe what will give the 5 innocent brothers a piece of mind is everybody involved in taking them down in the case apologizing or sacrificing something for them. Thank God she survived. Had she not they would have wrongly convicted them of murder, and Reyes would never have admitted guilt because the statute of limitations on murder. The statute of limitations for rape had passed when Reyes confessed his guilt.
