  • Well, as much as you can try to plan things, it's the small little oversights that will get you in the end. I'm glad I was able to find an alternative so fast otherwise I'm not sure what I would've done

    Great choice going with the NV3500 instead of the T5!! I have a 91 first gen S-10 with the NV3500 trans and built 400sbc putting down 400 or more ftlbs of Torque with a 8.5 10 bolt rear end with a locked 3:73 gear!! 4 years now I've ran it and it's held up great!! Definitely going to have to lock your rear end to get moving through!! Really enjoying your channel as well as the build!!

      Personally I'm thinking about doing a 400 in my 92 since it's geared real high(2.73).

    Before you get further along, I'd suggest you check your pressure plate spring finger depth. You might be bottoming out the slave cylinder which is why it wouldnt seat fully against the engine by hand. The 97+ nv3500's had a special pressure plate with shallower fingers than the external slave style. I know from experience. I installed the wrong clutch and it wouldn't engage fully because the release bearing was holding constant pressure on the pressure plate. I did a v8 nv3500 swap on my 93 in high school. For my crossmember, I plated the top of the tube like you were talking about with 1/4" steel and just torched a hole in the bottom of the tube just big enough to get a socket through to tighten the bolt. Just wanted to share some first-hand experience on the clutch before you get it running and find out the clutch slips because it isn't engaging fully. Keep up the good work!

    Cheapest I’ve seen a T-56 go for it a thousand dollars, it’s insane, it’s hard to build anything V8 on a budget🙄

    Ey you managed to overcome all the obstacles and that's great! Trans mount won't take you long.

    If you don't want to modify the cross member, you can slide the cross member back so the front holes in the crossmember meets the rear frame holes, then drill two new mount holes in the frame. When I swapped one of these into a G-Body, it gave me just enough room to allow the mount to bolt to the crossmember without any other mods.

    Shouldnt be this hard. I put an S10 T5 behind a 350 in a 66 Malibu. With an adapter,(to compensate for the long input shaft) and a short trans mount, it all fit fine. Repro 621 bell, Mr Gasket fork, Autozone ball pivot, 74 Camaro flywheel and pressure plate. Clutch disc was the only odd part, it had to be a 10 spline unit from an Astro van stick setup.

    I'm gonna try to pair an LS to my stock T-5 for my 95 S10, as long as I maybe tune the ECU for less power (within the T5 limits) I think it'd be ok...
    I originally was gonna try finding an LS4 so I could also use the stock metric bell housing, and try to build the starter mount and have the flywheel re-bored to fit the crank, but sourcing an LS4 nearby seems difficult. So I'll see if I can find a Gen3/4, use a BBC to Muncie bell housing (and a ford T5 to Muncie adapter plate) to use the stock T5...

    621 bell housing would have fixed your problem with the T5 but the NV3500 is a better transmission.

    Scored my ar5 with only 10k on it for $200. The adapter is gunna be the pricey-ish part. T56's the salavge yards are out of their minds. Seen 150k t56 for $4k🤣🤣 a new t56 magnum is cheaper then that. Love the bench-grinder, Somewhere there's a picture of that with a line through it.

    Simple and easy way to move the trans crossmember just scoot it back and drill new holes might not even have to since there was so many options for transmissions in the s10 lineup they had 4 speeds 5 speeds and the automatics

    Keep an eye open for someone parting out a Colorado or canyon. They use the ar-5 trans and fabbot sells the conversion plates to sbc bellhousing. They seem to hold up to power really well yet very affordable. I have u-pull yards here in mn that occasionally gets one in but you gotta jump on it! They only get $100 without the bellhousing, just an idea to look into

    Hey sir find a 96-03 s10 4.3 2wd single cab 5speed and you will have a nv3500 trans that will bolt to the sbc and 8.5 ten bolt rear that will bolt right it.. hope that helps, love the build.

      You can get the nv3500 out of the first gens with the 4.3 as well. And i plan on running the 8.8 ford rear end. I eventually want a t56 eventually but they’re about $1500 around here used so we’ll see how long I wait to get it😅

    G-force makes a gear kit for the T5. It'll stand up to the 400 torque if u decide to add more. I know your doing a slight budget build but check that out on Jegs. Be sure to buy the main shaft with the gear kit

    • @buckexp9243
      @buckexp9243 Год назад

      Also you can change the tail shaft on your T5 to the S10 tail, keeping your shifter in the stock location as the S10

    I pulled my transmission out twice in very short time with the engine and place it is not hard LOL I thought it was dumb to pull my whole front end off when I first ever did the V8 swap on my truck and I managed to set my engine and transmission in my truck without taking my front clip off lol it was hard but not hard as you would think and I did it by myself engine and transmission 700 r4 with a small block 350 motor I had to remove that water pump off the engine but it had the harmonic balancer on bottom pulley but it went in engine and transmission without taking out the fenders and radiator support

    why didn't you just get the right bell housing for the t5? I've seen monkeys organize better shit fights at the zoo.. why did you pull the engine and trans together? one more rant.. clean the trash out away from your wall and you would have 4ft more room to pull engines and not have to disassemble the truck.. my friend and I pulled a 2.5 4 speed out of an 87 s10, put a small block with a turbo 400 using the hooker short s10 headers and the advanced adapters mount and was running and driving in 4.5 hours..

    • @ak_strem7010
      @ak_strem7010  Год назад +3

      There’s no bellhousing for sale in my area, I’m also not made of money.
      Personal preference to pull the engine and trans out - clutch/trans oversight would’ve been even less fun left in the truck.
      Sure I could clean the stuff off my wall, it’s the only storage space I’ve got for that stuff currently, instead of moving it all I’ll take the extra time to pull the front clip off to make my life easier lol.
      Congrats you’re so super fast oh my god wow please let me bow to your intelligence and incredible fab skills for I am just a lowly terribly incapable young man on the internet wrenching and building garbage by himself while also trying to share it with the internet you’re so skilled oh my god please let me cater to your everlasting needs daddy sir

      I'm guessing you're the kind of person who has lost a lot of friends over time and has no idea why. There are so many ways to give constructive criticism or offer ideas without coming off like a straight up jerk. Just based on the way you talk I wouldn't expect you to be able to get work done with any expediency. I trust people who are resourceful far more than people who tell others to spend money and act like everything is available to everyone. This is a case of guess yo momma didn't teach you any manners. Nobody needs your negativity, we have plenty of that in the world.
