Boarders went from shoes with protection to pumps (vulcs) and you can’t make vulcanised shoes much better. Nike sb insoles is what makes them a cut above other skate shoes.
Vans did an overhaul with their skate program about 2 years and upgraded all the "Skateboarding" models. It would be interesting to see you do a comparison between the non skate Vans and the new skateboarding line equivalent of a shoe model. IMO the new shoes are better quality and last longer but it would be cool to see a breakdown and if it's just placebo. Keep up the great videos!
The different skaters even have shoes Taylored to them, not just names slapped on shoes. Some you need to untie to have a hope of taking them off while the Kyle walkers are able to be slipped on easily.
On the Mids vans adding the tongue straps made them worth it to me, Im almost 40 so I don’t skate every day but I do feel like the Sk8 pros feel better and last a little longer
Since the regular blazers’ toe cap is not double layered, they come apart really quickly from skating due to the grip tape breaking the stitches, separating the two toe pieces. The single piece toe on the SB ends up being more durable since there is no stitching to break and the toe stiffener on the SB serves as an additional abrasion resistant layer against flip tricks. Long story short, I’ve found the SB’s toe section to last much longer for skateboarding compared to regular blazers.
This is true. Also cheap suede is much better than plastic coated leather. Also its a vulc sneaker putting roughout full grain leather would make it too stiff. Would take a shitton of time to break in. I would get a hole in the outsole by the time the leather would break in
You guys are absolutely right. Sometimes I watch this channel and feel like the dude just wanted to be negative coz it will get more views, instead of trying to understand the product and the consumer's needs better. It's a huge bummer that he seems to be always pretty much guessing.
I always wondered about the actual integrity of the patch... It's extra relevant for skate shoes to cut useless costs like that, the lowered cost doesn't necessarily surprise me. Many skaters experience very little difference between all the different kinds of sneakers and go cheap for the best money/durability ratio, a lot of it is just the positioning of certain parts, like when the laces stick out too much and get ripped apart. I'd figure if there was such a thing as skate shoe made out of a single piece of suede, that'd be perfect. The patch does look sick, though.
The removing of the patches on the toe, from the regular blazers to the SB’s, is definitely also a plus imo. Because you would instantly blow out the stitching if you were to skate the regular ones, and since they’re not double layered you would just have a hole going straight to your toes. Also, the plastic toe-stiffener is very durable against the griptape once you blow through the suede upper layer. I have skated two pairs of the SB’s and they have lasted very well when compared to many other skate shoes I have had. I really enjoyed skating them.
@@joe_ferreira I don’t know, I like them and I like that they are a little thin. My feet don’t feel bruised after skating in them so I’m satisfied with them overall
As a skater, I found this super interesting, and would love to see more skate shoes being cut apart to see what is a better skate shoe to invest in! Balance that durability and cost would be a great mini series to see.
I think you missed one thing. Skate shoes don't want an ollie patch on the outside that changes the amount of grip it will have against the deck (would necessitate re-calibrating your flick for kick flips). So what you are calling a toe stiffener might be the reinforcement of the ollie wear area if it goes over that far. Vans Pro skate shoes have that and call it the duracap. Also skaters would always like to get an extra set of laces in the box because those get torn up.
I've been skating in these for about a year now and really like them. They're comfortable and last a while. The softer suede makes it easier to move my ankle compared to the harder normal blazers (which I wear day to day.) Plus they look great imo.
Also the SB blazers are a bit lower so that helps easier ankle movement as well. But also I dont understand why thy didnt just use two wide rubber bands on each side like in low SB Blazers or SB Dunks or low so the dirt problem is out
Man this channel blew up like crazy I love it I loved it when you started out and I love it even more now and to see the sponsorship that you're getting and the amount of customers that are watching this is just unbelievable and I'm so happy for you!!!
I would love to see you get your hands on some late ‘80s vintage Airwalk Prototype 540s. They were my favorite skate shoes…toe caps, ollie patches, lace covers, padded collars, style. I remember them being bomb proof, but I was also a teenager then. Sometimes memory doesn’t match reality.
The blazer you are looking for is the SB Blazer ISO or orange label. These are skate shop exclusive blazers that GENUINELY have massively improved material quality. They have the best quality leather of anything Nike and Jordan (even if that isn't saying a lot) and have more padding; especially in the ankle collar. Please get a pair of these and review them. I think you'll actually be impressed for once.
I didn’t realise that the ISOs actually have more padding than the regular SBs. I’m skating a pair of the wolf grey ISOs now and I was thinking they look a little chunkier on me than other people’s SB Blazers. The leather on them is seriously top notch too. They’re my first pair of Nike SBs in about 10 years and I’m very impressed so far
A lot of brands have a 'regular' version and a skate version of their sneaker. Another interesting comparising video would be the Adidas Samba and the Samba ADV (skate) version. The shocking thing is that the skate version, which you would assume is made to last better, is €20 cheaper. Super strange when it's supposed to be 'better' quality.
I’d love to see you do more skate shoes. 😍 the New Balance 1010’s are the skate show I’ve been most happy with, ever. Love to see them or other premium skate shoes compared. Thanks for your content, love it!
Hi, I've been watching your channel for a long time and learned a lot about leather with your vids. I would love for you to cut is half the Globe Mahalo, another skate shoe. I've got several of them and they seem to be much better than this Nikes plus they are much more affordable. Cheers from Spain 🇪🇸🤝🇺🇲
Weston, if you haven't seen Air yet, you need to. Although there's not a lot of shoe content in the movie, it does talk a lot about the manufacturing principles used for the prototype Jordans. Very cool stuff. And it shows that even in the mid 80s Nike was super cost-conscious.
The Grant Taylor X Nike SB Blazer Mid would probably be the most comparable to the other Blazers you reviewed. They also seem more capable of holding up to the stresses of skateboarding than the regular Blazers.
Believe me when I say that a toe stiffener can do wonders I was skating in regular blazers a did a kick flip it landed on my big toe and I couldn’t skate for a week
I agree with a lot of the other comments in that i think full grain leather would be too stiff on a skate shoe since you need that flexibility and dexterity to control flip tricks. I also think thats why the sole is thin too, in order for you to flex your foot during those tricks. I do think that they should redesign the liner and the gussetted tongue though, and lower the price of the shoe since they wear out fairly quick in other areas.
I just learned about a shoe by Nike called the mayfly. It came out in 2003. And was designed to fall apart after one marathon race. If you can get your hands on a pair of those that would be super cool to see how it was designed to fall apart!!

Honestly as a skater, the ollie patches would just be blown up in less than 2 sessions, because of the stitching, and if they were made like the normal blazers would just be a failing point, other than that, its cheaper. I love them to death when skating but, theres not much difference between the blazer sb and the normal blazer, i guess would be nice having a month where u test other skate shoes, i would suggest the jolins 2, they have one of the best outlsoles made by a tire company, would be nice seeing how they compare to the blazers

I don't skateboard anymore, but I still think it would be an interesting series to cut apart skate shoes to see what is the best build or most durable, like was done with mocktober or the white sneakers series
In 2023, skaters deserve what the best technology can offer. Nike is - as usual - moking is. Real skating brands - like DVs, Emerica, Osiris, Vans, Es, Etnies, Emerica, Globe - are offering 10 times better since late 90s
you should have a look at the "nike air force 1 high alyx" its supposedly made of "high quality leather" retail price of the sneaker straight from nike was 440€ but now discounted to 400. just looking at the price i guess it has to have something special about it.
I am so addicted to watching shoes being cut in half. Really is the only way to find out what's actually in them. Would love to see a video on the Nike X Off White Terra Formas. It's a different shoe and claims to have 3 layers of foam. They're not expensive either
Love the channel and what you do. From the beginningI was thinking the SB Blazer Premium Plus. Probably the same results but some differences for sure. Thanks 🫡 👟 👞 🥾 👠
The SB blazer is the better blazer for skating. I was happy to hear the SB blazer has an extra mm of rubber outsole too because my last SB was the leo and the upper held up extremely well but I blew a hole in the rubber outsole rather quickly. These new SB's with the react insoles are amazing for comfort and durability but the outsoles on them are paper thin and blowout waaaaay before the upper ever will. So quickly that I just went for a blazer low Grant Taylor. Time for just a more traditional skate shoe this time.
Skated them I love the way they feel and look honestly compared to all the other skate shoes I’ve used such as lakai’s, vans, DC’s, New balances, and circas. The only shoes I would say I enjoyed skating aside for blazers are Emericas.
I would like to see you open up a Last Resort AB skate shoe. For years slate shoes have been made very cheap I think last resort has done a good job of upping the quality
My SB Blazers made it a month and then they started to come unstitched around the eyelets. And the best part is I didn’t even skate in them yet because I was on vacation.
Do ASICS new skate line! Specifically the pair with the weird cutouts in the side of the sole and the old school soccer/baseball tongue. That would be DOPE and much APPRECIATED. Especially since they just started a skate line.
I posted this on the last blazer video as well, but you should find a NikeLab Blazer Studio Mid. These are the best. Your hunt for the perfect blazer will be over.
I have a pair of SB Blazers cause they were on sale for 54 euros near me. Basically 40% off They're all black I'm a size 44.5 EU or 10.5 US and they only had size 44 and 46 so I got 44 They're cozy and fit really well actually.
I think the best Nike Blazer is the one that you design on the ID store. For any shoe that is a custom design, they seem to use better material as you are paying a bit more. They do this with several sneakers such as the AF1, Dunk Low, Dunk High, Blazers and 95s. I have pairs of both Nike Dunk Low and Dunk High, and the material seems to be a bit better. Try using the Nike ID store to create your own shoe and cut it open to see if the materials is better.
I would really like to see you guys cut a foamposite in half, and do some more of the very weird nike soles like the nike ispa road warrior, the nike mmw 004, and sacais crazy soles
Apart from the OG sneakerheads, not many know the fact that the SB in Nike SB actually stood for Sandy Bodecker, and not skateboarding as many would have been led to believe.
So happy I got Mason silvas sb blazer actually ok normal leather for Nike anyway. 70uk well spent. Probably suade with s plastic coating i prefer full suade tbh. I saw masons shoes he skated and they were wearing pretty well tbh, so who knows. Definitely thicker than the normal junk leather.
The king of BLAZERS is really a queen... "Goddess of Victory" Blazer Phantom Mid is hands down made from the best materials. Theres more padding in the sole, the leather is top notch... people have slept on these.
You did the comparison! Very interesting to see that the shoes are virtually the same on the inside. Owning both sb and non sb's, I feel a difference in their day to day wear and when skateboarding. SB blazers have kind of a cult following and I know a lot of skaters who religiously skate them. I find the non-sbs to hurt my feet. The SB versions feel stiffer and have a wider heel/toebox.
The inner gusseted inner booty I believe not only to act as a moisture wicking layer but also keeps the tongue centered while also securing your foot to prevent it sliding/shifting around.
I really enjoy your show and it is very informable. I would like to see a show that would look at different kitchen work shoes . I am a chef and I have tried many different bran's. I currently weatr a Keens bran and love them. I have used them for the past 5 years. I think that it is very important for kitchen employee to wear proper footwear. I appreciate your time and I hope that you would agree with me
Not a Blazer and not skate boarding shoe, but you should check out the Ride Concepts Vice Mids. Made specifically for mountain bike (dirt jumping and slope style) but would work great for skating.
Thin skateboard shoes are always a balancing act between trying to have as much board feel as possible and durability. The most popular skate shoe for like a decade was the Nike sb Janowski model, which was notorious for falling apart in a few good sessions, but most agreed they felt better than anything else. Doing tricks in things like those big chunky dvs shoes you showed is quite a bit harder and those shoes took forever to break in. It think from the outside looking in skate shoes can seem silly since all of the popular ones are suede socks with a 5mm rubber sole, but the vast majority of skaters would rather buy new shoes every 2-4 months (2-3 weeks if you’re real skate all day everyday kind of dude) than sacrifice any advantage in a hobby that is very difficult and fairly dangerous. It will be interesting to see what this generation of skater’s knees look like at 40 after jumping down 15 stairs with slippers on though.

Nice Bayside shirt! Hope you keep doing more skate shoes
please compare the jordan 1 zoom cmft to regular jordan 1 highs pls
the SBs feel way better
There is leather SB blazers too, and Grant Taylor 2s are half canvas
You did the comparison! Very interesting to see that the shoes are virtually the same on the inside. Owning both sb and non sb's, I feel a difference in their day to day wear and when skateboarding. SB blazers have kind of a cult following and I know a lot of skaters who religiously skate them. I find the non-sbs to hurt my feet. The SB versions feel stiffer and have a wider heel/toebox.
Could you look into the Australian work boot brand “Oliver”
Looks are fantastic ,but I’ve never had a pair of shoes that hurt my feet as much as SB blazer. I did enjoy to skate them.
Made specifically for mountain bike (dirt jumping and slope style) but would work great for skating.
is the durometer of the rubber the same between both shoes???????
Review the EKN Liana: truly revolutionary design and comfortable beyond belief.
Good video
I haven't purchased a Nike shoe without air tech in a very long time. The Cortez will be my only exception.
Review the New Balance 990v2 Salehe Bembury! It’s such a wild shoe and the suede is wild cork insole and nice looking “leather” my favorite shoe
