If you look closely at the toe stitching, the SBs are double folded and double stitched, so that if you wear through the outer stitching, it’ll still hold together.
It's just such a shame it's near impossible to get SB dunks now. They might be worth the extra $10 but you also have to go through so much more effort or pay resale, not to mention new releases aren't as frequent. In New Zealand SB dunks practically don't exist

Pro SBs back in the day had more padding, thicker sock liner, and of course, the infamous fat tongue, on top of the OG designs. The new SBs in the 2020s look like the quality is subpar and incomparable, like comparing chocolate to dirt. Might want to look into Pro SBs, aka the original SB dunk from '04-'07 days.
I have many (too many) pairs of SB dunks and a handful of basketball dunks. I find the SB dunks to be infinitely more comfortable than the basketball dunks. I find that the basketball dunks feel stiffer all around. The leather is stiffer and the sole is stiffer and they take much longer to "break in" than a pair of SBs.
ik people have similar answers but the only different between SB bunks & regular dunks is that SB dunks or SB nikes in general are made solely for skateboarding while regular dunks are lifestyle/casual .

Certain types of foam tend to break down over time, that is, it reduces in thickness as I guess the air cells lose the air. Another common thing with foam is it reacts with material it is in contact with and appears to "melt". There is also the issue (not sure if it is the same as "melt”) where the plasticizers break down. Given the amount of foam in this style of shoe is there any way to measure the life of the foam or information available on the durability of foam? Alternatively, compare the new shoe insides with a worn shoe. My interest is your tests reveal the build quality and materials in new condition. Testing the impact bounce on a new shoe doesn't translate to the bounce quality after say a year of wearing. May be some test equipment that can impart a year’s wear in a shorter period. You have a most interesting channel.

I would love to see you cut in half Nike Sb dunk from Orange Lable - (maybe Dark russet) and see waht's your opinion on them. Nike claims its the best quality SB Dunks. Better materials and overall premium quality. After watching your videos I feel like it might be far from reality.
Rose Anvil beckuf up, because he just got any SB Dunk he could get his hands on, and went with those representing Nike's Skateboarding line when it's much more complicated than that. It's a no brainer SB Dunks are miles better than Sportswears. But QS and Orange Label/ISO SB Dunks are perfection materialized.
I was wondering if you've ever come across a shoe that varies depending on what size it is. I wear a US men's 13 and I find it strange they are the same price as an 8, even though the larger sizes use like 10%-30% more material. I think comparing kids versions of adult shoes to the real one would be interesting. Because they are like half the price and the largest kids and smallest adults are basically the same thing. Just wondering if corners are ever cut regarding across sizes.
Yeah like Jordan 1 highs they have men’s pairs that are size 5+ and they have gs pairs that are size 3.5-7. Should compare a men’s size 5 to a gs 5 and see the difference. Cus for whatever reason ppl will buy the men’s pair for a lot more $ compared to GS resale wise. Only noticeable difference that I know of is the height and the Jordan wings logo is bigger on men’s I believe.
My opinion on the “drop test” is that it should rank higher if the bar bounces back less- the opposite of how you rank it. If the bar is bouncing higher more energy is transferred through the shoe or the insole, meaning more is transferred to your foot. An insole that absorbs the energy from the impact would deaden the bounce back. Physicist over here.
I love how this man shows us how stupid it is to pay $500 just for the looks while the quality is awful and they cost Nike around 20 bucks to make them
i enjoy this videos sooooooo much! i've changed my mind about every shoe you've opened up When i go shopping i really test every material and try to think weather is worth the price or not
Love the vids keep up the great work! I think it would be really interesting to see if they're actually is a difference between the older SB dunks and the modern day ones. Just to confirm if all of those features that were originally designed are still kept consistent
I’m sure nike didn’t expect a person to actually buy their shoes and then cut them in half to show the masses the actual quality, when a leather expert critiques them. I’m actually so glad this channel exists, unfortunately he can’t and probably won’t ever get to every shoe, or the shoes I wear which is a shame, but still, I’m glad he can basically be the truth compared to the nonsense that sneaker heads say.
you should do a tear down on some replica dunks, jordan’s and all that to see what’s in there and see how much they cheap out or maybe even do better at. please 🙏🏼
They're hugely different. SB Dunks are made with tougher materials, and they have EVA foam as well as a Zoom Air unit built into the insole. I'm sure you cover this in the video, but I'm typing this prior to watching. The SB Dunk deserves to be a highly collectible Nike, because it's a really nice shoe in spite of the drawbacks of being a mass produced Nike. The "normal" Nike Dunk should be a $60 shoe that you can buy at any place w/ a Nike account. Seriously. You should be able to buy a "panda Dunk" for $60 at any "Shoe Show" or whatever....ANYWHERE. EDIT: That black/grey/gum bottom SB Dunk low is the shoe that I wear "daily" currently. I've been splitting mudholes in that shoe for a couple of months now. Holdin' up just fine.
Suede catches griptape and gives more lift for ollies and flick for flip tricks as well as being more durable. Zoom Air is more responsive than Air or Air Max, but less cushioned, and thinner for better board feel. Nice video!
Good thing about the SB dunks aswell is that is has the extra panel at the front 2 eyelets, that way you can lace it underneath the extra panel for added lace protection!
I think the difference when you rubbed on the board is due to the fact that in the first test you filled the grip's asperity with the rubber, reducing considerably the sanding effect for the 2 others.
I skate and always wondered if there was a difference between the two. Thank you for doin this and showin not just me but everyone else the truth about the SB line. Awesome cat too!
main difference is simply how flexible the sole is, for regular dunks you need a lot of structure and biility for the shoe to absorb impact in your toes, for sb dunks you get a flexible sole that follows the behavior of your toes while skateboarding, same thing with blazers, i have regular dunks for wear and dunk sb, because i phisically cant skate in them since they are too stiff.
Your knowledge of shoe craftsmanship and I guess shoe science? has grown exponentially since I first started watching your channel. Really cool to see.
Wouldn't less response from the bar drop be better? Wouldn't you want the insole to absorb yr shock and not bounce back. You should cut open FP skate shoes. They drop a bowling ball on their insole on top of q cement block and it doesn't crack but every other insole it breaks
would be interesting to see a comparison of leather soccer cleats, most company offer some sort of leather at various price points. also newer leather vs older cleat leather. there's a alot of content to be made centered around soccer cleats

Those Dunks SB look like better *BASKETBALL* shoes too! Zoom Air heal, better court feel in the forefoot, *AND* BETTER TRACTION!
I would love to see you cut in half Nike Sb dunk from Orange Lable - (maybe Dark russet) and see waht's your opinion on them. Nike claims its the best quality SB Dunks. Better materials and overall premium quality. After watching your videos I feel like it might be far from reality.
I have orange label Dunks and can confirm, leather quality is excellent.
People actually pay $200+ for the Pandas too, just because of the colorway.
I love how the green SB dunks are rendering the green screen
My guy is so dedicated, even his cat is made of leather
My opinion on the “drop test” is that it should rank higher if the bar bounces back less- the opposite of how you rank it. If the bar is bouncing higher more energy is transferred through the shoe or the insole, meaning more is transferred to your foot. An insole that absorbs the energy from the impact would deaden the bounce back. Physicist over here.
your cat is very cute and thanks for clarifying the difference between nike dunk and nike dunk sb
I love how this man shows us how stupid it is to pay $500 just for the looks while the quality is awful and they cost Nike around 20 bucks to make them
i enjoy this videos sooooooo much!
i've changed my mind about every shoe you've opened up
When i go shopping i really test every material and try to think weather is worth the price or not
Love the vids keep up the great work! I think it would be really interesting to see if they're actually is a difference between the older SB dunks and the modern day ones. Just to confirm if all of those features that were originally designed are still kept consistent
Am just happy we have someone who’s telling us what we been wearing and him cutting them in half is for research and I respect it
I’m sure nike didn’t expect a person to actually buy their shoes and then cut them in half to show the masses the actual quality, when a leather expert critiques them.
Nice video!
I love your honest reviews/breakdowns!! You got a new subscriber here 🙋 keep the 🔥 coming!
I was considering this too, flipping the board might be an option next time if the grain is the same both ways, or maybe alternate them very often
@@Gnurklesquimp Or make the test with 3 boards =D
You should compare the Jordan 4SB with a regular Jordan 4
The sbs are probably my favorite skate shoe, it’s unfortunate that they became collectible
i love the ripping of the leather. it sounds soo soothing
nike also makes a special kind of nike sb shoes called orange label and they’re made of higher quality materials
THIS this was what we all have been waiting for
Alternate take, for the bag. All of those pockets and stuff, take up space better used to allow you to carry more stuff.
Rose Anvil is the Vsauce of shoes
That zoom unit is the truth and the Jordan one's least that's the only ones I've had it but it is comfortable
Gotta get your hands on an OG era pair from 2002-2005. The quality was much better than the current SBs.
So much love for this channel
Ah yes my favorite watching people cut things in half that I can’t afford
Your knowledge of shoe craftsmanship and I guess shoe science? has grown exponentially since I first started watching your channel. Really cool to see.
I got a pair of sb on sale one time and loved them lasted 3 years. Awesome video.
Usually SB’s cost less than regular dunks 🫠
i would love to see a video on the nike X gore-tex collab. wanna see how much better the materials are.
This is sick, regular vans vs. skate line would be sick
Modest video of yours I’ve seen. There is a ton of value in this review and I’m def a sub .
I've been waiting years for a video like this! Skater for 20+ years , thanks for this
the man cold af, he just destroys all the sneakers he buys
Wouldn't less response from the bar drop be better? Wouldn't you want the insole to absorb yr shock and not bounce back. You should cut open FP skate shoes. They drop a bowling ball on their insole on top of q cement block and it doesn't crack but every other insole it breaks
would be interesting to see a comparison of leather soccer cleats, most company offer some sort of leather at various price points. also newer leather vs older cleat leather. there's a alot of content to be made centered around soccer cleats
Rose Anvil x Foot Doctor Zach the real ones of really inspecting "What's Inside" various shoes
Those green dunks are my favorite😭. I didn’t feel anything for the other shoes but this one hurt🥲
Are you planning on making a video on the air Jordan 4. It’s the most popular Jordan with sneaker heads right now
coming from a skater yes they are the soles are thiner to have board feel, they should be more duriable, and they are made for skaters
YESSSSSSSSSSSS i have wanted regular vs SB comparisons to shoes you cut in half like these or Vans I'm p sure I even left a comment in my sleep deprived state like 11 hours ago about it and I am super excited that it's something that you seem to be doing I am HYPED UP RN
Really hated to see the black fogs get cut. Great video. 👍
SB's FOR LIFE MY FAVORITE SHOE OF ALL TIME !!! amazing video !!!
Idk why I'm laughin on scraping the shoe on top of the board part 🤣
Oh thank you so much for making this video, i was contemplating earlier to see if i should go for a SB Dunk or a normal Dunk but the only videos i've seen on the SB quality was the Ben and Jerry's SB Dunk from you so i didn't know. This clears it out so much more i can't thank you enough, i was leaning towards a cheaper normal Dunk
Not all dunks have the same quality of leather some color ways are made with better material then others
Do the Jordan 1 lost and founds!!
