Hey here's an idea. Why don't you you do a Final Fantasy video centered around everyone's favorite Female characters. I think it would be quite popular to watch.
The scene is actually a very impactful scene as SPOILERS they’re faking there laughts that’s why it’s terrible laughter because Tidus is realizing he’s never gonna be able to go home and Yuna is fake laughing because at the point in the story she still thinks she’s gonna die soon
Tidus is easily top 3 may be #1 for me. People criticize him for not being a badass. He was a spoiled 17 year old sport star thrust into Spira and learns his father is killing whole villages/town. Later to learn he was just a dream/summon and will no longer exist if they stop Yu Yevon. He saved the woman he loves and Spira choosing them over himself as a 17 year old. The story flipped from Yuna sacrificing herself to save Spira to Tidus sacrificing himself.
1 tidus 2 squall 3 cloud 4 noctis 5 lightning Every other main character was ass I didn’t play 9 so idk about Zidane I don’t like the art style of 9 but maybe I’ll give it a shot
I'm so tired of people bringing up Tidus' laugh scene and taking it out of context. It was suppose to sound like that... I think there is only one RUclipsr who has actually acknowledged the laughing scene for what it was, ProJared.
Bringing this up when talking about FF10 is like bringing up sonic 06 when talk about any sonic game lol It's people buzz word when they haven't played the game
@@techbeef the story isn't really about him. He is basically you, the player, in the story. The main focus is Yuna and her pilgrimage, you are aiding to her story.
This looks more like a ranking of the most popular characters, not their personality and feats, if you were talking about those I'm sure as hell Vaan would be at last place
Y'all love hating on Vaan without giving a single explanation as to why he sucks beyond "because the internet said so". He's literally the most popular FF character in Japan. Y'all can act like you make up the fandom that matters.
@@DanielAyalaIchBin so? Just because a video game or movie character is popular doesn't make him/her a good character Besides that the most popular characters in Japan are 1.Cloud(don't get why he is unsympathetic and a big idiot even baret Im original ff7 has more charisma and is more sympathic) 2.Yuna (can't say anything about it stopped playing ffX after 30min) 3.Aeris (can understand this but to high) 4.Vivi(understandable) 5.Zidane 6.Solus Zos Galvus(don't even know who this is) 7.Tidus(same as yuna) 8.Lightning(understandable but belongs higher) 9.Tifa(same as lightning) 10.Zack(same as tifa and lightning) It's easy to find out just Google So stop spreading false information
It's just their opinion. I personally agree with you, but they only shared their opinions in this video. However, making Vaan the central protagonist is clearly inaccurate. Since we all know Balthier is the leading man, and his lady choice was better than the kid's too.
Same. I would switch either for Vaan tbh. No disrespect to the character but the more I look into FFXII’s story, the more he feels just there compared to Ashe.
I understand it is a personal ranking, it just makes me sad seeing Noctis and sometimes Lightning getting the axe just because their games where not as liked as the others (I love every main entry, except maybe for 3). It would be nice if the ranking considered also their characterization in the dissidia games, as characters like Firion had great moments there.
Sad to see Noct so low on the list. I love that guy, from his personality to his clothes. That game had me in tears twice. Prince Noctis Lucis Caelum, wished he had a better ending
Noct had a lot going on making his personality make sense while cloud was generally just being emo just because to everyone around him even after sephiroth defeat because his personality is largely the same in advent children
I 100% agree. He was without a doubt better than Vaan, Lightning, and Squall. Unfortunately I think not enough people gave FFIX the love it deserves and his Zidane's popularity probably suffers because of it.
i think zidane should be nr 1 or 2 tbh.. and noctis at 12? behind "characters" from ff 2 and 3? like cmon at this point the ff xv bashing gets ridiculous.. its not THAT bad like wtf? tbh its even one of my favs
I’ll admit there is room for error on this list, I mean everyone has their favourites and there are some strong contenders but I don’t think I’m being biased (he is one of my absolute favourites) when I say Zidane should at least be in the top 5
@@eddy5097 "optional" yes. But all but 3 are optional. But as far as character story, and arc, she goes from not knowing who she is at all, to questioning her own humanity, only to have her humanity stop her from going full Tidus. I'd say she deserves the 2 spot. Although I love celes as well, the makers of the game have clearly defined Terra (Tina) as the main protagonist.
FF4 story was so bad. Hello here is a new party member. Oh no they died, oh but they didn't now they are back again! Here is another new party member i wonder what will happen ..... So cartoonish it makes FF1 look like war and peace.
@@happyjonn9242 having played a million RPGs i can say you're 100% wrong You start in Baron you get betrayed by your Kingdom forced to hurt innocents your friend dissapears your girl almost dies you end up relying on those ppl u fucked over for help who fuck with you That's just the first little bit. It's a short game cause of presentation but Its starts around Baron and ENDS UP ON THE FUCKING MOON This game is the definition of epic and one of the blueprints for every RPG that has come out in video game form
Noctis is WAYYYY under ranked and under appreciated here. The entire story of him was amazing and so sad, yet he was an impactful character. I get it’s a newer Final Fantasy game and whatnot, but man, that character was great.
Yes i think too They said Clouds story was better im not sure but written yes but interesting same as Noctis ...Cloud should kill himself, he didnt lose Tifa
If they didn’t make his story so confusing or have a movie that showed the back lore he would’ve had more buildup. I didn’t like Tidus at first but by the end he’s my favorite of all games
I dont think i disagree with them on this. FF15 had the skeleton of a good story in it but it was overall rushed and forced. When the leviathan scene happened i thought why should i care if that person dies? they were in like 2 scenes, but they played it like a ff7 moment again. The crew was annoying to a fault especially with what happened to ignus and how they treated noctis after. Completely unearned and I wound up just telling them to fuck off instead of sympathizing with them. Which is a failure in storytelling. Noctis himeself is a weightless dud of a character. No characterization outside baseline empathy and a poser ps1 moody protagonist knockoff. FF12 also has a shit story but at least it had good gameplay. I cant even say that for 15. That game was so incredibly bad
I'm glad he is on the top. he is a great character, to be able to see the "inner thoughts and inner emotions of someone who may seem boring and distant...is amazing. He breaks the toxic stereotype of men being unable to express his feelings and insecurities.
@@DuskSunDawn I still want to know how he survived that ice strike to this chest. Even he was surprised he was okay, well, until the interrogation scene.
Yeah I agree, and I say this as a guy who likes Vaan as a character but, Vaan works as a outside observer and commentator on the story going on around him. Whereas Zidane actually takes a very active role in the plot of FF9 as his background is a direct cause of the plot.
Zidane is a great protagonist, and my personal favorite along with Cloud. A true leader, motivator, funny. Having him immediattely behind Vaan, who wasn't even a planned charcater, is nothing short of a joke. Terrible list.
Cecil is by far my favorite Final Fantasy protagonist. He goes through a lot of mess (and - in the beginning - CAUSES a lot of mess), but he atones and becomes a Paladin, all while remaining kind, but not overly idealistic. And his connection to the (seemingly) main villain, who I also like a lot? Epic stuff.
FF4 was the first RPG I’ve ever played. It got me into the genre and after playing tons of RPGs Cecil is still my favorite…all the characters in 4 were phenomenal though. I’m happy seeing so many people love that game as much as I do.
YES! Someone who gets it! FF1 was my first, but 4 was next, and I just loved that game. I also enjoyed 12, but I definitely rage quit a few times. 8 is another I really love due to the music, and Squall is epic. While I played 7, I just don't care much for it. Maybe because that's one of The Games Everyone Talks About or all the many remakes of it, but eh. I would take Cecil over Cloud anytime. And yes, Golbez is an awesome villain. But I do have armor bias. Hence he, Garland, and Gabranth being my top three villains from FF.
The further the list went on, more annoyed I got. Some of it is fine - but Zidane is waaaaay too low and below Vahn and Lighting? Just objectively wrong. Especially with vahn, vahn isn’t even the main character of his own game - how is he doing even above Noctis? Pretty disappointed by this ranking
I'm still working my way through the Final Fantasy games. But honestly, I think Noctis is really underrated. I think there are times throughout FFXV where he, like pretty much everyone else is the game, is a victim of some questionable and/or choppy writing. BUT... I actually think he is quite likeable. I have always interpreted his attitude less as "disinterested" and more as, "I'm reserved and awkward and I don't know what to say." While playing the game I found myself endeared to him because, based on his actions and his exchanges with his loved ones, I came to realize he's a very kind, compassionate, and passionate person who just doesn't express himself that well in words. But that's just me. I think my guy Noct deserves a little more love. To be honest, I'm also kind of surprised to see Tidus ranked so high. I love FFX, but I don't consider Tidus to be that great of a protagonist. For most of the game, he's a little TOO clueless and too disconnected from what's happening around him for my taste. And yes, I know he's supposed to be clueless because he's been thrust into a world he doesn't recognize --- but sometimes I felt his thick-headedness was a little bit much. Plus, I don't really want to go into detail now, but there were times I felt his character arc fell a bit flat.
Part of the problem in these lists is settling upon a criteria. Are they ranked by likeable character or by engaging story? Noctis has a lot of similarities to Squall imo. But Squall did undergo a little more character development and I also think giving us his stream of thoughts sometimes really helped understand him
Exactly n even when he goes all depressed he pops right back up n grows tf up n deals with it with an upbeat attitude unlike Cloud n Squall. How tf was Cloud number 1
@@lnsflare1 Sephiroth is one of the most iconic characters of the game world...if he isn't the most iconic one. He is like Jesus Christ, Michael Jackson, Madonna...hahahaha.
There's a lot of inaccurate information in this. Final Fantasy II was first released outside of Japan when it was ported to the PS1 in 2002. And Luneth, et al., weren't in the original Final Fantasy III. The FFIII characters of Luneth, Arc, Refia, and Ingus were created for the 3D remake.
I seriously feel that Zidane should be above Vaan. He was very engaging and also changed well throughout the story, whereas Vaan felt stale without much growth.
Zidane has better character than Vaan. He's funny, good leader, friendly and laid-back I also appreciate his character development where he conquer his insecurities and loneliness.
I know ff6 made an attempt to make multiple protagonists, but for me, Terra will always be the face of that game. Her story is among the most tragic and hopeful among any videogame character I've seen.
The one thing Noctis has though? That campfire scene at the end. I don't know if there's a more emotional cut scene in any game I've ever played. Of all the things that game did. That cut scene stuck with me.
I haven't finished 13 yet but I do like Lightning a lot. Her coldness hiding her true caring nature. I loved it. It also really came to light in her conversations with Hope.
13 is very underrated. The story from 13 to 13-2 and Lightning Returns is one of the best FF stories out there. I actually shed a tear after I completed the entire trilogy because I felt like my friends have left me. If a JRPG doesn't make me feel like that, then it isn't a good JRPG!
Cecil is my fave, I loved his Dark Knight form. His conflict was also just so emotional, especially since his brother was being controlled by a more powerful entity. But the ending scene during the fight made me cry, especially when Golbez says "Cecil...It must be you." and hands him the Crystal to help fight Zeromus.
I’m just going to leave this at: You didn’t play any of these games. Or listen to fan reactions to the games. This is entirely summed up in the one line about Lightning: “She became an instant classic.” Lightning was one of the most divisive characters in the series. The measure of hatred of her was huge.
And I'm going to sum up that you only listened to part of the side that you were on. She was also very popular, including an absolutely massive hit in Japan. Are you stupid or something? Did you think that they made a trilogy on a game that lost money? The only games that have out-sold the XIII series are the VII, X, & XII series. People let the vocal minority trick them into thinking that they are the majority. Plenty of people liked XIII. They didn't make the game into a trilogy out just because they wanted to. They did it because it was making them money.
Luneth and Firion barely qualify as characters since the story and characterization was pretty light in the early games, and yet you put them above Noctis? Come on! ~Sigh ~ Guess is a typical case of thinking that it's still cool to hate on FFXV... I would actually swap Lightning with Noctis, because as cool as Lightning was I think Noctis is a much more fun character, also swap Zidane and Vaan too while we're at it.
It's not cool to hate FFXV, but people are allowed to not like it. Every single character in XV grates on my nerves, I ultimately played the game on mute because the voice acting and writing were not great.
While I agree Zidane was greatly misplaced in this list, and they could have been way clearer on the criteria they were ranking by, but Cloud was iconic long before Remake. Although 7 wasn't the first FF released outside of Japan, it was the first one to really sell well (marketing had a ton to do with that) so for many people it was their definitive entry into the series. Although a bit of a mess narrative, Cloud's story of being a kid who desperately wanted to be a hero despite not initially being cut out for it was relatable in a way that few of the other protagonists can match.
why? I'm playing the remake and Cloud's not bad, but not that good either. He's average at best and the only reason people depend on him is for his strength, that's not enough to make him a true leader.
@@luispalacios8423 The events in remake correspond to the first few hours of the original game. Cloud's backstory and how it intertwines with the main plot is unsurpassed.
I sometimes forget that Squall was an extraordinary tactician. Also, the entire scene in space on the Ragnarok up until the Propagators? I sometimes forget how amazing that whole gameplay of trying to stop Rinoa and the cutscenes in space are.
I do kinda feel like FFXIV should be included, you’re character isn’t bland in the story, even though you make the character you see their emotions, and trial and tribulations. They grow from what you made into a character in their own right. That’s pretty impressive for an MMO and single player character creator game.
He used to be reserved and a bit of a loner until he found someone worth protecting. Definitely became Rinoa's knight in shining armor and are basically have opposite personalities. I guess opposites do attract.
@@TheOmegaDragon yep...I liked that he was also very introvert...and had alot of internal monologues... throughout the game he had to learn that ppl wanted to here what he was thinking.. and verbalize his thoughts
hahahahahaha Squall is a bad failed copy from Cloud and is prob one of the most hated characters in the FF universe. Cloud is by far the most deepest character. Squall is so poorly written.
Noctis should’ve been higher on the list. The story, the emotions he displayed, the burdens he carried really tugged my heart and made me feel for his situation. Born to defeat his uncle and die finishing off his family line…. It made me cry tbh
I've always preferred Squall to Cloud. Something about my protagonist becoming a part of the problem doesn't sit well me. But I wouldn't argue if someone prefers Cloud.
Ramza is my favourite he stays true to his soul but also willing to learn and develop. He is the perfect protagonist to me more so than a damaged hero.
I’d love a remaster, but I’d still want the turn based action. Some of those fights were so stressful and fun because you had a very real fear that a round was going to go really really shitty.
Ranking Noctis that low is bordering on criminal. xD "This character without any backstory and only handful of dialogue has more personality than Noctis"... Sure, buddy. I suspect the ranking is more about "my favourite FF-games ranked" than protagonists... Also, it's Seh-cil, not See-cil.
Wow. I loved Noctis. He’s better than Lightning by far and away. I think he’s too low. Looking at more of the list, I still stand with noct being higher. I can’t understand how he’s 2nd to last. His story is the only one I’ve ever cried for.
I appreciate your hardwork, ideas, editing, time and effort that you putI appreciate your hardwork, ideas, editing, time and effort that you put to make videos for us. A very big respect to you. keep up the good work :)
Zidane was a good character but he wasn't a great character when compared to Cloud, Squall, or Lightning. Zidane was just your standard knight-in-shiny-armor cookie cutter character who went from a care-free womanizer to a selfless womanizer. He had a breaking point in his life but his recovery was like a quick light switch and it didn't really offer him much growth. Unfortunately, the game didn't allow us to explore him any further. Honestly, I think Garnet/Dagger took his spotlight because most of FF9 was really about Garnet/Dagger finding herself, losing herself, and rediscovering herself. Zidane just happened to be infatuated with her and followed her around.
@@phillux1085 LOL no...you must’ve forgotten the game if you think Zidane is nothing but a cookie cutter knight in shining armor following Dagger around. What about the time when he followed Freya to Burmecia? What about his flashbacks regarding temporarily leaving Tantalus to find answers as to where he came from and failing to do so at Black Mage Village? There’s a reason why his identity and past was kept hidden until the end. What makes FF9 better than FF7 is that the game isn’t just about Zidane, it’s about the whole party more or less, whereas FF7 is Cloud’s story and everyone is there for the ride. What makes Zidane’s story so beautiful is that from the very start, he’s always there for his friends and helping those in need, and when it was his time to fall near the end, those that he had helped earlier came back to help him. His actions came full circle and it was very poetic indeed. Definitely much more relatable to your average person than that edgeboy Cloud’s memory loss bullshit.
Is this supposed to be a list of the best protagonists or just the most popular because there is no way Zidane should be ranked lower then Vaan, Tidus, Lightning or Squall.
Squall actually is a better lead. Zidane's story doesn't feel important until disk 3 and Garnet and Vivi seem like the true protagonists and get far better development
@@The810kid Zidane is important throughout the game though. He is instrumental in guiding all of the other characters through their own problems. Most of the characters' development strongly stems from Zidane's presence. Then it comes full circle when all of them help him in return when he tried to be on his own. That to me is the beauty of it.
I love final fantasy list and such and love the conversations. But to put LIGHTNING and TIDUS over Zidane? Really? Even over Noctis? I strongly disagree. Though your top 3? Yes I completely agree
Lots of ppl hate XIII. But no doubt Lightning as a character is divisive. Some people are in literal infatuation with her and Square marketed her well, despite the game being trash.
Yes. You're obviously letting your game preference here interfere when you're finding some major injustice with it. Lightning and Tidus should both honestly be higher. They are both major parts of two of the best written stories in the franchise; though you could really argue that Yuna is actually the protagonist of FFX. How much you like a game, and/or how good a game is does not directly coincide with how good a character actually is. You also have to remember that for Lightning, she has the advantage of being part of a trilogy; including essentially having an entire game where she is the only character of real focus on your side.
@@ofamily8180 it's the only other female lead in the entire franchise not counting the popular supports from FF7. And yes she was marketed well, I'll say what everyone else says she a female clone of cloud. This was the initial then she softens up but cloud too because the players became comfortable with them by then knowing their stories. I'll give her credit for being a badass and to the point but Terra is way better. It's a shame she was in 8 bit oldies for alot of new people not to know her or played her. I guess the "Tsundere" was pretty hot for weebos who wanted to get stepped on from "mature" women then the usual cutsey animu nice girls. (I think Yuna and Terra really good female characters and I can see Tifa being cool but it's a shame they're all supports.
Oh come on, people are still giving Tidus’ laugh flack? I know it was an awkward scene but that’s the entire point of it when realizing the context of the moment. Besides, it’s pretty wholesome when Yuna joined in. Still, I’m glad to see our boy getting respect now. Overall, great list but I wouldn’t put Noctis or Zidane over Vaan. I just don’t think he’s as prevalent as those two.
Gonna agree with you on this. The point of the scene was actually a dark regrettable moment when remembered by Tidus. Yuna was contemplating her mortality seeing this place for the last time and Tidus tells her to laugh through her problems. It speaks to Yuna's character that she doesn't take offense to it and actually tries to painfully force the laugh not for herself but for Tidus. Non introverts don't pick up on dealing with pushy extroverts.
@@zeldafan2262 Think about it it was extremely forced in a way that is almost painful in hindsight. He is trying to force her to laugh to "cheer" her up and she is only laughing to try to forget she will basically commit suicide at the end of her journey. I think Yuna, throughout her Joueney was actively seeking any alternative to these thoughts no matter how strong she appeared on the outside. The laugh was hollow and only became real after they realized how fake it really sounded.
@@zeldafan2262 As Gabriel Williams have pointed out, that’s the entire point of the scene. It was meant to be fake and forced because Yuna asked for a demonstration. On top of that, there’s the dilemma that both characters are going. Tidus was clearly hamming it since they had a genuine real laugh right after words.
The biggest sin of this video is putting Vaan above Zidane. Vaan is literally just a discount zidane who has little to no character development. Everyone other than him and Penelo take the reigns of leadership in the group. The only thing keeping him out of complete obscurity is the fact that he has the best stats. Even Bartz is much better than Vaan also
Another point in Lightning's case: she is voiced by Ali Hillis, the voice of Dr. Liara T'Soni in Mass Effect. Also, Terra being half-Esper it is understandable she is so strong with magic, in fact, I don't recall any other character in the franchise in a similar boat to her (being half-Esper).
I used to be a cloud fan boy. After playing these games for a period of time. My favorite protagonist are Terra, Noctis and co, Bartz, Balthier and Sol.
Well I appreciate your video and like it but for me my favorite 10 leading character from final fantasy ( personal feelings I like compassionate leaders, open and strong) 1. Cecil- he is a paladin, he has a huge role, reliable and respectful and shows heroism 2. Zidane- he is funny, understanding and lively and supports the people around them to be better versions of themselves. 3. Tidus- he is a perfect light for the dark world around him and pushes everyone to move past trauma and have hope for the future and willing to sacrifice himself for happiness for his team and the world. 4. Terra- she to me is just like Daenerys Targaryen, magical family, powerful, wants to make the world a better place and wants to protect her adopted children. 5. Noel - he was kind and understanding and had great moral compass I wish we had a bigger cast for ff13-2 but I still like him. 6. Bartz - he is open and helpful and youthful he brings a refreshing leader aspect. 7. Cloud- he starts off Moody and bold but once he opens up he becomes a better leader and friend and is fiercely devoted to protecting those around him. 8. Lightning- she starts off rough but she is very kind and protective once you get too know her and seeing her open up and evolve too a better person is very satisfying. 9. Noctis- he has alot of pressure on his shoulders but despite that he will fight for his ppl with all his strength. 10. Squall- I think bc we know what's going through his head that makes us not see him a douche but he does grow he had a sad lonely life but learn to open too others and make a new family and find love and happiness but he I don't care for him much as leaders go than as a good character.
hot take: All these countdowns feature Cloud so heavily because 90% of the nerds "first" FF they ever played was 7. Yes they went back and played anthology and chronicles then tried to lie abotu it and say "6 was my first, but it was 3 when I played it." But fact remains 7 was usually their first, and they just nutswing from Cloud. As for 4, thats because 4 is the *other* FF that was HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE in Japan, and Weabs crave Japanese acceptance more than a dope fiend wants drugs. Noctis, and Zidane are too low Cloud and lightning are too high Squall and Tidus are disrespected with their placement. As far as character growth, they OBLITERATE Cloud's story arc. You know why people have a problem with 8? its because they wanted "FFVII-2" and didnt get it. 8 had the balls to be different. And people hate 10 because it took away the "world map travel" because they think every gamer wants to spend 700 hours searching every corner of every pixel hoping to find a knights of the round level something
I agree that Cloud, as a character, doesn't really score that high. But I must admit that 7, as a game, is one of the most iconic. A revolutionary graphic, the "Vader" of video game, a death of one of main character (not simply just party member), and so on. And when thinking of a character, I believe most people would (even if unconciously) count the game itself into account.
@@FurqanaFathuzzaman nope, not me. When I think of “Final Fantasy”, FF9 comes to mind, NOT FF7. Also when I think of characters, I think of Zidane and Vivi, NOT Cloud or whoever else there is. FF7 is NOT a Final Fantasy game to me. It’s a cross-breed of Metal Gear Solid and Yugiyoh with RPG elements incorporated into it. I don’t even think about FF7 when I think about “games” or even “RPGs” in general. In fact, reason it even exists to me is because stupid ass FF7 stans on the internet always bring it up every single time which takes the piss outta me, because I don’t wanna hear or talk about it. FF7 is one of the most overrated “things” EVER, and to this day, I still cannot fathom why ppl think there’s anything special about this game outside of nostalgia.
7 was my first game but I preferred Yuffie and Red XIII. Cosmo Canyon made me cry and Wutai was a lot of fun. X and XII are my favourites by far. X felt like a true ensemble effort, cast-wise. It was better-paced emotionally and story-wise in general. The ‘ending’ at Zanarkind was, first time I played it, a real shocker.
I still think Cecil is the best protagonist in final fantasy, him and Kain are among the best characters in the entire franchise. I'd put the protagonist of the first 3 and Vaan as the bottom 4 and Kain, Lightning, Cloud and Zidane as the top 4.
Noctis was a great protagonist y’all are bugging on here. Yeah he looks like a K-pop band member but he had some layers to him and we see him as a weathered adult towards the end. He was one of the more human main characters in the series. You can’t blame him for being jaded or disinterested in the beginning because people from wealth or royalty usually have these traits. Noct in general was very underrated imo. I would pick him over Tidus and tidus was great but he was annoying at times 😂
There's always a "The best final fantasy *insert category*" list here in youtube. Tbh its really subjective and more than likely people will always answer that their first Final Fantasy is the best. Just glad we got a ton of these games to experience their worlds, stories, struggles and celebrations.
for me, final fantasy x will always be my favourite game!!! Tidus was probably one of the most realistic ff characters of all time i really love him!!!
You pronounced Zidane AND Cecil wrong, but at least you said “Tidus” right. That said, it’s sad that you didn’t mention the characterization of the protagonists in other media. Especially in the DISSIDIA games. And personally, I will always love Cecil as FF4 was my first ever Final Fantasy. There’s also the fact that he was once a dark knight, but then became a paladin.
Ashe is the main protagonist of FFXII. The choices she is forced to make, her own ego being tempted by the shadowy Venat, it was such a good character arc. The scene where she finally faces her choice of cutting the crystal (and continuing the cycle of misery) or finding another path is brilliant. Vaan and Penelo were there. Wasn’t it the case that the developers thought people - basically men - wouldn’t want to play a FF game with a deep, conflicted, and kick ass woman as the lead? Not sure if I’m misremembering that bit.
Really? Noctis over that walking POV? At least Noctis is loyal to his friends. Vaan is practically a side character in his own game while Ashe/Basch/Balthier has more connections with the antagonists
Guys, do your research. Final Fantasy II first released outside of Japan in 2002 on the PSOne in the Final Fantasy Origins complication, nearly a full 2 years before the GBA release of Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls. In fact, the GBA release is an enhanced port of Origins. You guys are so busy rushing to launch videos that you constantly make mistakes and show a lack of professionalism and polish. I'd expect that from a lone RUclipsr who has to do every aspect of production themselves, but not from a media conglomerate with an entire staff of people working on these videos. Where are your fact checkers and script editors?
My personal list 1. Squall 2. Lightning 3. Noctis 4. Cloud 5. Tidus 6. Bartz 7. Zidane 8. Vaan 9. Cecil 10. Terra 11. Firion 12. Luneth 13. WoL This mostly stems from having started with the 3D era games and having not played the 2D games until well into adulthood.
Cloud, Squall, Tidus and Lightning are my favorites. Noctis had so much potential. Versus 13 Version of him was so badass and the whole game looked darker - sometimes even like a mafia style. But FF15 for me personally is the biggest disappointment in gaming history.
No way is lightning above Zidane, noctis, or tidus. She is so one note they tried to make female cloud but didn't even understand what made cloud who he was. She's an awful character.
Zidane is the most genuinely heroic. He can make a friend of anyone and risks his life for the villain in the end. Cloud has unfortunately been ruined by Square-Enix and morphed into something he was not in original FF7...a brooding jerkoff.
Lightning really stood out to me and I was VERY excited to see 13 receive not one but TWO sequels! Vaan is annoying so much of the time that I rarely had him in the party and always ignored his dialogues. Sorry not sorry.
I would’ve put Cloud behind Cecil and Terra because I think they are more compelling characters than him especially Cecil with his journey from Dark Knight to Paladin and Yuna should’ve been on the list cuz she was just as much of the protagonist of FFX as Tidus was.
your opinion .Japan did a world wide vote of beat ff character and cloud actually took the #1 spot in it. means majority voting Cloud automatically wins.
I mean, both Yuna & Serah should have been on this list somewhere since they said they were rating all of the canonical games and the sequels are part of it. They would get some hate for how high they would have to rate Serah though, on top of how high they had to rate Lightning lol.
I like Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII. Cloud is also a newcomer character in SSB4 along with Bayonetta, Bowser Jr., Corrin, Dark Pit, Duck Hunt, Greninja, Little Mac, Lucina, Mega Man, Mii Fighters (3),: Pac-Man, Palutena, Robin, Rosalina & Luma, Ryu, Shulk, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer. Cloud is also a DLC character in SSB4 along with Bayonetta, Corrin, Lucas, Mewtwo, Roy and Ryu.
Final Fantasy 2 was first ported to the Playstation 1 with Final Fantasy Origins. Wow, really? You placed decoy protagonist Mr. "I'm just along for the ride" Vaan himself, over Zidane? Wow, it's almost like you never played any of the games.

Could you please try to convince people why Master Chief will NEVER be in Super Smash Bros.?
Shame that the Tidus-laugh-scene always get shown out of context since it's such an emotionally packed moment for Yuna and him.
I know right! I feel like anyone who talks about Tidus and then comments on that scene unironically hasnt actually played FFX
@@KinfolkGaming Agree so much. The entire point was it was cringe, and even the other characters think it was weird - that was the whole point.
The scene is actually a very impactful scene as SPOILERS they’re faking there laughts that’s why it’s terrible laughter because Tidus is realizing he’s never gonna be able to go home and Yuna is fake laughing because at the point in the story she still thinks she’s gonna die soon
@@justing4794 Yeah, that's our point.
The fact that the VA himself can joke about it shows it is a funny and awkward and “bad” scene in any context. Whether that was the point or not.

Agree I'm so fucking tired of this.
Bringing this up when talking about FF10 is like bringing up sonic 06 when talk about any sonic game lol

How is Noctis THAT low... he was a great character, there are far worse like Vaan that are a lot higher in the list, it makes no sense to me.
I agree. For me, Noctis and Zidane got so low in this rank it makes no sense.

I’m both disappointed and surprised that Zidane is so far down the list, I definitely think he should be above Vaan
I 100% agree. He was without a doubt better than Vaan, Lightning, and Squall. Unfortunately I think not enough people gave FFIX the love it deserves and his Zidane's popularity probably suffers because of it.

Yea

I like Garland a lot too
The further the list went on, more annoyed I got.
But Squall did undergo a little more character development and I also think giving us his stream of thoughts sometimes really helped understand him
Zidane from Final Fantasy IX is my favourite. He is funny, brave, selfless and always has high spirits, even in the bleakest of moments.

I’m glad Squall is honestly as high on this list as he is. A very underrated hero in my opinion!
Terrible videos
Zidane is seriously underrated. One of my favorites. Cloud has Remake aiding his #1 status though. Remake did a lot for Cloud and those around him.
Nah, Cloud would have been #1 no matter what because of popularity.

Zidane and Kuja are such underrated FF characters.
I do kinda feel like FFXIV should be included, you’re character isn’t bland in the story, even though you make the character you see their emotions, and trial and tribulations. They grow from what you made into a character in their own right. That’s pretty impressive for an MMO and single player character creator game.
Plus... "Warriors of Light" made the cut and represented the players. Why can't it do the same in FFXIV?

Or Cloud, Squall and Tidus either.
Absolutely nothing wrong with Cecil btw

They literally laugh for real at the fake laugh right after. It just shows ppl didn't understand that moment at all.
But it felt completely forced and unnecessary, i'm really starting to think that people are coming up with excuses about that scene tbh.
Without spoiling too much, FF14 does have a few people who are able to harness summoning using their own bodies.
But they’re not half-Esper/Eidolon.
I used to be a cloud fan boy. After playing these games for a period of time. My favorite protagonist are Terra, Noctis and co, Bartz, Balthier and Sol.
Well I appreciate your video and like it but for me my favorite 10 leading character from final fantasy ( personal feelings I like compassionate leaders, open and strong)
1. Cecil- he is a paladin, he has a huge role, reliable and respectful and shows heroism
I love FFXII, but I cant imagine thinking Vaan is a better protagonist than Zidane.
This is one of many reason why i love Playstation! So many legendary RPG games in sony consoles generation! ✌🏻😍
Always Love PlayStation
@@BigBossCQCLegend Yes me too! 👍🏻😍
hot take: All these countdowns feature Cloud so heavily because 90% of the nerds "first" FF they ever played was 7.
Noctis, and Zidane are too low
Cloud and lightning are too high
Squall and Tidus are disrespected with their placement.
Not a hot take at all, you’re speaking facts as far as FF7 goes.
As long as you cut out Cloud and Lightning it's not a bad list.
Just played FFXVI. In my humble opinion, Clive is Top 3 material.
My Top 10 Favorite Final Fantasy Protagonists:
#1-Cloud Strife (FF7).
#2-Noctis Lucius Calum (FF15).
#3-Lighting (FF13).
#4-Squall Lionheart (FF8).
#5-Tidus (FFX/FF10).
#6-Cecil (FF4).
#7-Firion (FF2).
#8-Terra (FF6).
#9-Zidane (FF9).
#10-Warrior Of Light (FF1).
Care to explain?
Wack list
There's always a "The best final fantasy *insert category*" list here in youtube. Tbh its really subjective and more than likely people will always answer that their first Final Fantasy is the best. Just glad we got a ton of these games to experience their worlds, stories, struggles and celebrations.
Damn my boy Noctis at 12?
Yeah, man. He's at least top 5 worthy
Totally for most he is 1
for me, final fantasy x will always be my favourite game!!!
You did noctis so dirty. He is not that bad
Vaan over Zidane is the worst thing I've seen so far this year....
Top Tier: Cloud, Cecil and Zidane.
Bottom Tier: Lightning & Vaan
Dude, Noct is so underrated.
I am surprised my boy Cecil made it to top 2, I always liked both him and Kain, they are my favorite chars. Specially if you play FF4 After Years
I thought they were going to leave him out completely…person who made this list must be in his 30-40s 😂 Cecil will always be goat.
I have such fond memories from several of these Final Fantasy games and I would play them again in a second if I could. Great video.
Why can’t you? :)
@@DeionDashing---I no longer have the Playstation councils that I used to play them on.
Cloud is just so iconic
Great list! I grew up with FF6 the most and Terra is my personal #1. Her identity crisis was what drew me in amongst the cast.
Lightning will always be my favorite. Her back story and character development is amazing. 2nd is definitely Cloud. Then imo Vaan. Vaan is so cool.
My personal list
1. Squall
2. Lightning
3. Noctis
4. Cloud
5. Tidus
6. Bartz
7. Zidane
8. Vaan
9. Cecil
10. Terra
11. Firion
12. Luneth
13. WoL
This mostly stems from having started with the 3D era games and having not played the 2D games until well into adulthood.
*CHAOS!!!!!* (My favorite FF protagonist is Jack from Strangers of Paradise. Because he wants to kill Chaos.)
I personally would put Cecil over Cloud. He lost his kingdom, his girlfriend, his best friend and the world was out to get him.
Cloud, Squall, Tidus and Lightning are my favorites.
Noctis had so much potential. Versus 13 Version of him was so badass and the whole game looked darker - sometimes even like a mafia style. But FF15 for me personally is the biggest disappointment in gaming history.
This list is insane...
Not just bad, it is insane.
To be honest I like his brother Rex's design much better.
Although Cloud and FF7 is great no doubt but something about Squall and FF8 with its music and atmosphere is just so iconic
XII was so disappointing, Basch should have been the lead. They rewrote the story because they needed a pretty boy
We're gonna look back and call 15 underrated. Man, Noctis under 2 and 3 just bugs me. I really liked him
I would’ve put Cloud behind Cecil and Terra because I think they are more compelling characters than him especially Cecil with his journey from Dark Knight to Paladin and Yuna should’ve been on the list cuz she was just as much of the protagonist of FFX as Tidus was.
your opinion .Japan did a world wide vote of beat ff character and cloud actually took the #1 spot in it. means majority voting Cloud automatically wins.
I would put all 3 of them at number one because I like all three of them equally, and 4,6 and 7 are my favorites FF games
I mean, both Yuna & Serah should have been on this list somewhere since they said they were rating all of the canonical games and the sequels are part of it. They would get some hate for how high they would have to rate Serah though, on top of how high they had to rate Lightning lol.
Squall, Lightning and Cloud are probably my top 3 favourites
The weather gang!
Regardless of what you think of final fantasy 13 as a game, lightning is an awesome character
The only character I didn't want to stab by the end of XIII was Shaz and I'm 90% that was cause I would be sad if his Chocobo was homeless.
FF13 is just objectively bad… FF fans are just mad that they have a very bad mark on them so they make excuses
@@gamerforlife3946 I never said FF13 was a good game, because it's definitely not, but I just thing lightning was one of the only good things about it
@@jimmyjeff1777 Oh if you talk about that then yes that’s opinion based lol…
@@gamerforlife3946 it is my opinion, I don't like the game but I like lightning as a character, if you don't agree with me that's completely fine
All respect for this list goes went out the window when Vaan was ranked anywhere other than dead last.
Balthier was the leading man and Tidus should win the award for most annoying
"Just the big ones here" *spits in Zacks face*
Well...it's nice to know where you stand.
Cloud is also a DLC character in SSB4 along with Bayonetta, Corrin, Lucas, Mewtwo, Roy and Ryu.
you kinda talk like a robot
let's Admit it Cecil is the best protagonist. the only reason Cloud won the top spot is because he is in ff7. No Hate Though
Final Fantasy 2 was first ported to the Playstation 1 with Final Fantasy Origins.
Wow, really? You placed decoy protagonist Mr. "I'm just along for the ride" Vaan himself, over Zidane? Wow, it's almost like you never played any of the games.
