I'd like to just point out, for all the negative comments here.. Ayurveda is a 5,000 year old science. This means the interpretation is SO heavily linked to individual perspectives. One person's interpretation of the science is not wrong. Just because YOU have never learned it that way does not mean that it could not be true from an alternative interpretation and perspective. The Vedas were written in Sanskrit, which is widely known as a very hard language to properly translate. Keep an open mind and maybe think about leaving comments only expressing 'Ahimsa' or non-harming... duality is not the way of yoga or Ayurveda..
That's not how science works. Also, sanskrit is difficult but not a confusing language, it's also not mythology to leave upto interpretation. The only interpretation is figuring out ur body's dishes n subdoshas depending on the reactions, that's the most open mindedness one can have. To add to that there are a lot of fake Ayurveda ppl who in the name just make money by randomly making claims. It's not bad to be skeptic or tell someone that they might be duped by someone. As long as u r not name calling or being terribly rude.
All languages have a barrier of translation. It absolutely makes it confusing and left up to interpretation, based on the understanding of the translator. This is true for all languages, not just Sanskrit. Also, it is, in fact, how science works. Science is meant to be questioned and viewed in alternative lights and perspectives. It is meant to be tested under different circumstances and tried to be true. It can change. That’s how it works. That’s it’s beauty. :)
actually we dont eat according to our prakriti (doshic constitution), this is a common mistake people do. We eat to protect our agni and to guarantee the nutrition of the body tissues. Sometimes it is actually the vikriti, the doshas imbalances that will guide in what food one should eat. Hopefully you were discussing about imbalances... anyway, some of the spices you are avoiding can guarantee the quality of your agni, you just need to learn some techniques of preparing them to reduce the action that could harm you. ie: shunti, which is the dried ginger, it has so much less heat than the fresh one and you can use it. It will actually help to balance the digestive fire and the pitta imbalance when combined with some food. One strong rule Charaka acharya (one of the classic masters of ayurveda) speaks about is the concept of viruddha ahara, and this combination of fruits creating the smothie is a type of viruddha, or incompatible food to the body... the habbit of intaking it will def harm your digestive fire.
There is a lot of variation out there, we are not all carbon copies. Therefore, you need to test out for yourself as to whether ginger (dried and/or fresh) is helpful or not. Dried is more provoking, but even fresh could be too much. This is an individual exploration. Let us not make gods out of Ayurvedic teachers. I follow the dietary principles of Ayurveda, but do not follow anything else, yoga, pranayama, etc. having found the dangers therein. The only God I have is Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Maranatha.
‘Element’ is a more appropriate meaning for Dosha than energy. I’ve never heard Dosha described that way in nearly 25 years of learning about Āyurveda. 🤔
This looks delicious. I could totally see tailoring this with traditional Chinese medicine info about Yin/Yang and Qi type nutrition. Once you do a complete overhaul, I think it can get cheaper then $250 a week🤔. Good to also think environmental, sustainably and seasonal in your purchasing.
Love your video...hope you are still on track & feeling fabulous. Found you by searching 'plant based Ayurveda'. Definitely ordering her book. I am Kapha. Thanks for sharing...very helpful.🍂
I've recently stumbled upon the ayurveda concept, I've heard the word before, but never really thought about what it means or entails.... And from what I understand of modern society is, the worst society eats, the more society suffers... there are many of us who eat healthily, but if we think about it, in ancient times food wasn't processed, to pick one: there were no pot noodles. I cook all my meals from scratch, very often batch cooking - so you struggling with that is for me a classic modern day syndrome of society that is always on the go and convenience food is the answer to staying alive (or dying a little faster) However, I applaud you for not going on a complete guilt trip because you had something off the plan. I am also looking into how I can better my eating habits a bit further, hence the sudden interest on ayurveda. What I'm trying to gain is a better understanding so that I can adapt things to my palate.
You have a BEAUTIFUL energy! I love your style! Those meals look yummy! I know i have a LOT of Pitta too, i kept being told i told my games too seriously, i searched for perfection and wins, never finding complete fulfillment however. I did not get to completely relax most of my life. I know i enjoyed chocolate and mocca lots,so we have this in common (not that you mentioned chocolate, but you know what i mean). I tend to test either tridoshic or as Vata-Pitta (got Pitta Vata once, not yet sure of my type). This is a good watch, thanks for the video!
Coriander, cumin and fennel seeds pacify the aggravated pitta actually by their different qualities. It is good for stimulating the agni. They donot aggravate the agni but brings it to normalcy.
How do you know it wasn’t the placebo effect? What if someone prepared a diet for you and didn’t tell you what is was for and there was a control diet.
If you want to know everything about entire ayurveda, download a free pdf of Charak Samhita - a very old and long book. Now, if you want to know just ayurvedic diet - I recommend you, on youtube search - ayurveda by fit tuber He is an Indian who makes videos in English and you can follow him!
I will present before you one very simple drink which you can enjoy in evening - Boil water, Add crushed ginger And if available add tulsi leaves (tulsi is a plant native to India), it not a compulsion, This was the simplest thing I can tell
Even more simple is, Purchase FENNEL Seeds and after dinner, just take a pinch of it and chew it, it'll help in proper digestion. Enjoy! Do share your experience here!
Sweet potatoes and oat flour are for pitta dosha. The spices seem to be the problem, especially curry which usually has a lot of cayenne pepper in it. Maybe this is a recipe for another dosha and she decided to use it. Seems that the hot spices were what she was craving, like the garlic in the take out salad.
Pitta dosha(Anti inflammatory diet)type diet help for cancer patients.eat more cool food to fight body fire or acidity(Anti inflammatory diet)aspiashially cure hot flushes with cool food like barley, oats, fennel seed, ghee, coriander seeds and green cardamon, rose water ,Aloe Vera green vagies will help.
I am pitta dosha, but I also am a non-secretor of my blood antigen (Lewis antigen system) as is 25% of the population. This means I will get cavities if I eat anything with phytic acid, like all beans/whole grains/nuts/seeds. The phosphorus binds up with the magnesium/calcium in my system and flushes it all out....hence, cavities. The only grains I can eat are white rice, white wheat flour, popcorn, popped amaranth. No beans. Only nut I can have is coconut. The only seed is popcorn. But, I am making it work for me, regardless of my limited options. All things coconut are very cooling. Fennel/rose water/coriander are lifesavers. Here is one that has recently been saving my life: plantains. They are different than a regular banana. The virya is cooling. If you have any tendency to diarrhea which is common for Pitta dosha, I highly recommend plantains. They need to be cooked and can be used as a substitute for grains. Living at the equator, they are easy to obtain. Also, there are many varieties of potatoes and yucca here that are very helpful. One of my favorites is zanahoria blanca (arracacha or Arracacia xanthorrhiza) which has a very sweet taste. Another very helpful fruit for me has been Acai, from the Amazon rainforest. The world has so many plants that we have never even known about, but hold much for us. Disfruta!

Prepare ingredients rather than meals so you can pick and choose and make different meals when you feel like it. I’m pitta/ kapha and not allowed to eat tomatoes, or spinach. Good luck 🙏

Ohh you westerners makes things very complicated... It supposed to be simple - for example if you have Pitt Dosha.. you just have to avoid spicy, packaged(with preservatives) and, stale food... you can simple boil rice and lentils with tiny bit of salt and pepper and eat it with yogurt..
Just when I think it's selfless, out comes the book plug. 🤔🤨😔 I don’t think you finished all the food that you bought before it went bad. Yeah that’s right I’m a pitta also lol. And yes I am still eating that hot and spicy crap. I am a man but I can change if I have to, I guess? 🤣😂🌏🌪🔥🌊✨🕉☯️☮️🙏🔱

As mentioned u r all the doshas, u need everything to work in balance n health... anything going out of balance causes stress on the body n mind We all think n dream, we all r anxious, we all get frustrated n angry, we all r at peace n relaxing n caring for others
Wow. Leave it to YJ to dumb down Āyurveda after decades of doing the same to yoga. This is unhelpfully superficial and disappointing given the truly excellent Āyurvedic practitioners out there who could have really brought more insight to the topic.
Susan Hopkinson thanks for the feedback! I would argue that this approach actually makes the topic more accessible to more people - those who may not already be well versed in yoga or Ayurveda and young people. Accessibility is how we change the work and bring this beautiful ancient wisdom to more people around the world.
As someone who is overwhelmed with all the information, this was way easier to understand. How can you expect anyone new to even comprehend it when it's not dumbed down? High and mighty much?

Ayurveda is a ten thousand year old system around the time of treta yug.
I always find it funny when people say they find it a chore to make all their meals by themselves ... What do they normally do?
Well, that’s me. I don’t like to cook and I work A LOT . I don’t have kids so I usually cook just on the weekends.

Yes, food that is still edible but at the end of it’s life.
Yogurt increases pitta dosha because its sour and acidic ...unless sweetened but still not recommended for pitta aggravated folks
