      Thanks Ethan. Unfortunately, I lost the transmitter back in May and haven't replaced it yet. We are still using the EZ Educator collar. Thanks again for watching and commenting! Stay safe and healthy!

      Thanks for the question. Yes, to both with the caveat that we are into winter now and the dogs don’t swim daily in the river.

    Is it an electric shock or a static shock?

    • @KettleHavenRanch
      @KettleHavenRanch  3 года назад +2

      Hi Krish. The collar creates the shock via an electric circuit that is controlled by the remote control unit. Petspy describes it as a "static shock". I do not. I was taught a "static" charge is an naturally occurring imbalance of electrons between two objects. Of course, I do not have a "PhD" behind my name, nor am I an engineer for Petspy. IMHO, the electric charge is probably stored in a capacitor, from the rechargeable battery and discharged upon command of the remote control unit. Thanks for watching and for the question!

    Does it shock dog if they bark on thier own an you dont have control on you???

    • @KettleHavenRanch
      @KettleHavenRanch  4 года назад +2

      This system is manually operated and that's what makes it great as a training collar. The trainer can choose the level of correction, from beep to vibrate and finally, if necessary, shock. There are other products on the market that automatically will shock in response to barking, but those are impractical for our application. We want ours not to hesitate to bark when encountering a predator. At the same time, chasing a barn cat or starting a dance with live stock results in immediate shock. The dogs learn very fast and after only a few shocks, you will rarely use that option again.

      @@KettleHavenRanch what number to you start at when shocking?

    • @KettleHavenRanch
      @KettleHavenRanch  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for the question. We started maxed out BUT that’s on 140 to 150 pound, thick , double coated Maremma Sheep Dogs. They learn super fast, I don’t think I’ve had to shock since last spring. A quick beep or vibrate ( we use two different systems, rotating every other day to recharge) creates an immediate response, negating the need for the shock. For a small dog, I’d start on the very lowest and move up as required.

      @@KettleHavenRanch I have an 8 -month-old king shepherd she weighs 80 pounds with very thick fur. I was starting the tone at 4 but I just wasn’t sure what umber to start with a shock. I’ve only had it about a week. Is 4 too strong of a shock?

    • @KettleHavenRanch
      @KettleHavenRanch  3 года назад +1

      We use the longer contacts and did trim fur a little, at first, to ensure good contact. Before trimming, make sure the contacts make contact through the fur. This might require it tighter than you’d think. I was told many times that I was to nice to them and the collar was too loose. Ensuring a consistent contact during training is more important, IMHO, then the strength of the correction. Try the lowest and slowly work up until you get an immediate response. Remember to work up from the beep as a warning before using the shock correction.

    I bought this and it's junk. The tone isn't that loud. The vibration works well. The shock doesn't work at all. My dog is sweet but extremely defiant and stubborn. I haven't tried it on her because I was going to return it since the shock doesn't work. I tried it on myself first. The sound won't detour her. She could care less. The vibration might stop her for a bit. But if she is bolting out the door and I can't catch her, she'll be gone forever. She's too fast for me. I've trained her the best I know how. This was her last chance. Petspy doesn't take returns but will send you a new piece of junk. I appreciate you're review but for me it was a bust.

      That's terrible! I'm sorry to hear you've had problems. We are still using both of the collars, every other day. Quite honestly, I've really been surprised both the PetSpy and EZ Educators are still working. I expected the collars to fail due to either water damage or battery failure. I agree though, the collars might not work for training a head strong dog, if you can't use the shock. Thank you for your comment and for watching!

      I highly recommend that you look up Larry Krohn on RUclips regarding e-collar conditioning and training. He does not teach them the things with the e-collar - he conditions them to know what the vibration means, he has taught them the behavior with positive reinforcement already, and then ,he uses the e-collar to perfect the wanted behavior. He also introduces the idea of using the sound as a clicker - so the sound would be like your "Yes"/marker word and then reward, rather than used as a negative.
      He has a very good book too for $10 on Amazon, it's a quick 62pg read and worth the time & money.
