    Hi @Stephanie Davis!
    I wanted to thank you and also (hopefully) answer a question you posited during the video. So THANK YOU for putting out such fun, informational, -enabling- er… _enticing_ product reviews! As for your question about how people store their Inktense blocks, I hope the following is maybe informational for YOU, since you’re so generous in sharing so much with US. I don’t know if Derwent has changed anything since I bought my blocks several years ago, but at the time, the colors were identical EXCEPT I have a different turquoise color in the blocks than in the pencils. I got the blocks for covering larger areas, but I don’t like the feel of chalk pastels…something about that texture (and the very staining India Ink contained therein) made me loathe to using them “as-is.” So I grabbed a craft knife and some empty full size watercolor pans and went hacking away. I found if I cut them (by eye) to the lengthy side of the pans, I could fit two pieces of a single Inktense block in one pan (with plenty left over, too)! They fit snugly enough that they make a pretty uniform “flat” surface…especially once they’ve been wet with a brush a few times and the “seam” where the pieces meet gets glued together from the excess water/ink. I’ve never had any fall out…even when stored upside-down/sideways (albeit unintentionally). Depending on the container, I’ve had success in adding either magnets or even glue dots to the bottom of the pans, and was able to fit the entire line in a much smaller tin than their original home. I keep the original tin (along with all of the remaining blocks) high up in a closet, where neither child nor cat have found them yet. I’m curious about the Inktense paper…it’s intriguing to know it has the attributes of watercolor paper, but isn’t marketed as such. I hope you share your experience with it…this is the first I’ve heard of it! I’m also fascinated by your process of using the Inktense last; I’ve never tried that, as I tend to use it as the first layer so it won’t move/reactivate with watercolors/neocolors/pencils…but most of the colors ARE pretty intense and seem to be pretty dark to begin with, so your method makes a lot of sense, too. 😊
    We seem to have very similar taste in art supplies! I saw a video you made recently where you referenced your DS paints in a way that resonated SO MUCH for me. I’d love to know more of how YOU feel about what I have dubbed “PrimaGate.” 😡 (I’m going to watch some of your older videos to see if you talk about it in more depth, as it STILL really bothers me…not just the incident itself, but the manner in which it was “addressed.”) ART SHOULD BE FUN, and the fact that I couldn’t enjoy painting for some time after that whole situation was so frustrating! I turned to the Szmal line as a good substitute, albeit a bit more difficult to source. (Honestly, I seem to get orders from Jackson’s faster than I do from Jerry’s or Blick, but shopping their site is SO bad for my wallet…and I can’t maintain enough self-control to not buy ALL. THE. THINGS.) Have you tried “Misty Morning” in the Aquarius line? It might be my favorite; it isn’t a “clone” of another DS color, but it IS lightfast and has beautiful separation/granulation. I think Kim Crick has a video on making your own (which I’ve also done)…but I still picked up another pan the last time I ordered! 😂
    Thank you so much for your wonderful videos, and thank you for reading this entire novel of a comment. 😣 Looking forward to seeing more from your channel!
    Warmly,
    Danni

      Hi Danni,
      I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed the video. Thank you for all your tips. I purchased the Inktense Blocks, as I was told they were a game changer by a viewer. I thought they would be great for backgrounds, etc. I'm going to try using them sideways, for quick coverage. Thanks for the suggestions! I figured out they can be used in the top and bottom tray...that will work. Those trays are just so flimsy. I appreciate you taking the time to share so much, others may find it very helpful too. I haven't compared the Inktense paper to Arches yet, but I will be testing it later this month. I can't wait to experiment more with all of the Inktense products! I like to grab some of the pigment from the Inktense pencils at the end since they are so pigments, and I love using lots of fine detail in my artwork. ;)
      Haha, I love so many art supplies, I'm glad we have so much in common. I'm not sure which video you mentioned. It's been awhile since I talked about DS because I don't want to be negative...But, since you asked... I wasn't surprised the Primatek's were boosted, lol. I remember swatching Amazonite Genuine when I was new to watercolors, and thinking it must have a lot of Phthalo green in it. They just handled the situation so poorly, and I've been disappointed by both the plastic and metal palettes, to be honest. I feel so strongly that companies can make money, while being honest.
      I still love many of the DS watercolors, but I guess my relationship status with Daniel Smith is "It's Complicated" ;D Art supplies should bring joy! So, I haven't brought any of the drama to my channel...there are way too many amazing products to be excited about! Yes, yes and YES!! I'm so thrilled with most of the Roman Smzal and I love that he seems to be coming after DS hard. Lol Yes, I love Misty Morning, but I love so many of his colors. And Yes to the buying all the things, thank God for credit card rewards!! Thanks for all the love! Glad to have you here!

      Oh, that's great!! I was hoping to try watercolor as an underpainting for pastels. Thanks so much for sharing! Do you know if there anything close, that is more affordable?!? Haha, most of the time I'm using 600-800 grit sandpaper. It's the best I have found so far.

    • @Kyomiibrown
      @Kyomiibrown 2 года назад

      @@TheGypsyChic1 Standard sandpaper is ok but remember it won’t be archival.
      Unfortunately Pastelmat don’t do a test pack but Jackson’s DO a test pack of 7 full quarter sheets of various “sanded” papers which includes a sheet of pastelmat. The test pack also contains UART sandpaper, specifically made for artists, that can also take washes of watercolour, Inktense etc - though it curls a bit so tape it to a board. Tim Fisher 400 is also included and can take wet media etc. you even get a sheet of velour (dry media only.). The cost very good at around £10 GBP or $11 usd.

    Hi can i ask what does lightfast mean? I went to thr art store today and i was so confused with all the different types of items like different kinds of pastel or different pencil crayons by faber castell or derwent . its definately a learning process amd i need to research more. Im so glad i found your channel today and you show us how to use your items. Like the inktense bloks are new to me too

    • @TheGypsyChic1
      @TheGypsyChic1  2 года назад

      Hello, Sabrina! So nice to have you here! Lightfast basically means it won't fade in the sunlight. Many high priced art supplies are expensive because they use pigments etc which will stand up to sunlight and last 100 years or more. They also have fine print stating that is using museum conditions, so that will not be my home, lol. It is mostly important for artists selling their work. If you are a beginner, I don't think you need to worry about it. To me, it matters to justify the cost of the supply. Or if I'm going to use expensive paper, or hours and hours of my time. I also don't generally believe the "lightfast stars" of any craft/budget supplies. But, if you are beginning your art journal you can have a ton of fun and enjoy products regardless if it is lightfast. Feel free to ask any questions, I'm happy to help if I can. ;)

Lol Please let me know how your oiled primed lined works, etc. Ha, you are speaking a language I don't know...oil anything...I don't need to fall in love with yet another medium. LOL :D I hope you get all your Christmas wishlist items!

    When you return things to Amazon they just throw then out and those things often end up on open air trash disposals.

    • @Catsandcamera
      @Catsandcamera 2 года назад +6

      @@TheGypsyChic1 The definitely throw all sorts of things away not just perishables, I guess it depends on the quantity of that product or even the quantity of returns that day. If they've got pallets full of returns to process it's less time consuming to just throw the whole thing away. If your products just have superficial damage like a scratch to the packet it really shouldn't be returned because in the grand scheme of things the amount of time / effort / petrol / emissions & the likelihood of it just getting thrown away isn't worth getting a bit miffed about a scratch or crease that doesn't harm the use of the product in any way.
      Of course if you have genuine problems like leakage or breakage then for sure, make sure you get what your money is worth!

    • @shadowguard3578

    Pls dont tell me you said ur giving ur old set to ur daughter when u bought a new set for her for Xmas... that is so trashy.. unless she's like a toddler or very young? 11 and older and idk that just seems trashy especially since its not like giving her something used because of lack of money, that isn't trashy, but giving her ur old used set all because u like the names? And u bought her a new set especially for her + u already have tons of art supplies of much higher quality.
