    I absolutely love your Meeden 5-drawer storage unit. Is it made with Cherry wood? It's stunning what ever it is! I like your lap table too, that's a very handy tool to have, to pick up and go wherever you want to relocate to indoors or out. You always have the best art supplies to drool over, lol! 💗

      Thank you, Cheryl! I love it so much, it is so beautiful and functional!! It is made from Beech wood with a Dark Walnut finish. It is stunning, and I have another one on my wish list. Thank you, I love that too! Aw, thank you!!! I used to regret that I wasted so much time crafting, since I love art so much more. But, I loved the crafty friends I made and now I've sold almost all my old craft supplies to purchase most of my beautiful art supplies...along with selling lots of others things and credit card rewards, of course! @@TheGypsyChic1 Stephanie, I bought a few items that I was happy to get a hold of, however it's not that much. I got a backup set of the 120 set of Polychromos for $140, which was a steal! I already had a 120 and a 60 piece sets, but at that price I was so excited to snag up a full backup set. I bought a bamboo Lazy Susan Desk Organizer that I put my Polychromos in by color order. It's so convenient having them sit next to my desk and just spin it to the color that I need to grab out from it. I bought the Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof White for the 1st time and love how opaque it is to cover up lines that I don't want in a picture when coloring. I would like to get the Meeden trays that you have. They are nicer looking than the blonde colored trays that I have seen.

      That is so awesome, Cheryl!! I'm the same way, I buy duplicates of my favorite products when I find a really amazing sale. I'm not sure I will ever find those prices of 2020 again, so I'm glad I did. It also helps me be less scared to use them if I know I have a backup. I really hope to get over that asap though! Your bamboo organizer sounds amazing!! Yes, the Dr. Ph Martin BPW is awesome. I did something to ruin mine, I'm not sure what I did. Ha, it went from working great to drying into flakes, and I never left it open? I'm so glad you found some wonderful supplies you enjoy!!! Thank you!! I really love them! 💗

    This was fun! I did enjoy seeing your favorite and most used supplies in 2023. My most used supplies are watercolors, and occasionally I use coloring pencils, watercolor pencils, and inktense pencils. I completely agree that art supplies bring joy. I also don’t collect anything else. I have collected a lot of A. Gallo watercolors since I purchased my first signature palette in 2022. I have put myself on a watercolor diet ie a no buy, until November 2024, but A. Gallo is my downfall. A. Gallo have some colors that are expensive to purchase open stock, but then they put them in a new palette and the price of the whole palette is tolerable (I still wouldn’t call it affordable but I can cope with the price), now I want to add it to my collection! 🫣🤭🤣

    • @TheGypsyChic1
      @TheGypsyChic1  10 месяцев назад

      Thank you, Shadow! We have the same faves!! ;D Yes, I went through my A Gallo phase, too. I'm not earning near the credit card rewards I used too, so I don't have as much of a splurge fund anymore. So, I'm not going to be buying as many supplies myself. I'm still going to go for the limited edition sets, or really good deals of my current favorite supplies. Yes, that is why I buy the Schmincke sets, the price is tolerable in the set. I can still rationalize it somehow! Lol. I'm just looking at it as an investment is future happiness. 💗💗💗

      @@TheGypsyChic1 you’re welcome! I agree a set of watercolors in a palette brings the price down and you get the palette as well. It makes the price bearable. Last year I bought the Jane Blundell Roman Szmal palette, some Roman Szmal half pans open stock, and then two Rosa Gallery 21 full pan palettes (one was the mono pigment palette and the other was a variety of single pigment and multi pigments). They were $23 each. Fortunately I used credit card cash back to pay for it all. I haven’t even opened them! This year so far I have less cash back accumulating and less buying. I keep on reaching for my A. Gallo watercolors, so my watercolor diet might not last but in my defense I’m only going to collect one brand LOL! BTW I forgot to mention your artwork beautiful!

    • @TheGypsyChic1
      @TheGypsyChic1  10 месяцев назад

      Absolutely! You found some great deals! Oh, I have that Roman Szmal palette and I still love it! I wonder if the RG will keep going up in price like Roman Szmal paints did? Do you look at the prices of Rosa Gallery palettes now and be like...I bought it for less than half the price it is now. Lol. Honestly, for most of my supplies. I think that is one reason my collection gives me so much joy. The great deals I purchased them at, and that they were technically all free! Yes, same for us. I'm not sure if credit cards have changed the reward policies or what exactly? We are not earning near the rewards anymore either. Luckily, I purchased most of what I wanted, as well as dozens of distractions along the way!! Your plan sounds good to me! I wish I could stick with just one brand! Kudos to you!! It is so nice to have an art friend who plays the game of get what you want, the smart way...for free!! Oh, thank you!!! It's taken me forever, but I'm finally not so scared to just create now instead of worrying if I'm doing it all wrong. 💗

I’m glad you also share a passion for art supplies but at the same time try to get the best bang for your buck! ❤️

    I'm with you on trying all the paints nd wanting to do all the colors! All throughout childhood, all I had was plain printer and construction paper, #2 pencils, and a small cheap 12 pack of crayola colored pencils. Even throughout my teen years that is all I had. I got to play with different media in art classes every year, but that wasn't many projects. Even during college and early work years I couldn't afford anything but a cheap sketchbook, #2 pencils, and a pack of crayola colored pencils. But about 7 years ago, I started to be able to afford a little more so I started with prismacolor, then india and acrylic inks, then watercolor, then gouache, then acrylic, then oil pastels and many other media. The only thing I have no interest in (YET) is oil painting. My favorite two are watercolor and colored pencils, and for those two media I indulge in different brands and different colors. And I am sooo grateful to have these things now, so I make sure to rotate and use it all and not waste it by letting it sit in the drawer unused because I know somewhere there are young people like I was whose parents can't afford supplies or who can't afford supplies on their own. I wish everyone could have access to art supplies because in addition to be fun, art is truly therapeutic !
    Anyway, thanks for sharing this video! I really enjoyed seeing the different media you love to use! It gave me a few ideas of things to try out 😜

      Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Sounds like we have a lot in common! I grew up very much the same. I was lucky in a way that I didn't really know what I was missing, other than Crayola markers, lol. I also figured out how to afford things I wanted about ten years ago. I'm so glad I am able to try different brands and see which work best for me. I also have no interest in oil painting, but I'll never say never. I do take very good care of my supplies, and in case they don't work for me. Like you said, I know someone else will love them very much! I agree 100%, art is so therapeutic and I have yet to work with any children who did not enjoy art of some kind. You are so welcome!! Thanks so much for watching and leaving such a thoughtful comment! 💗

    At the end when you show the drawers you are using for watercolors I was thrilled. I actually use the same type if system! But I made some changes. I actually pulled off the wood dividers on some drawers..not all...I have a ton of tins and so I put my watercolors in the bottom of a tin so I can easily pull those out to use instead of finding a space big enough for the entire drawer....I love it. I have on with an easel on the top and is has locks...I take it on the go...they are getting more and more pricey though 😢

    Why weren’t you allowed to use pencil crayons or crayons when you were a kid?
    What does “sizing is going” mean? I had trouble with a gouache being shiny and the company said it might be my paper sizing but my paper was pretty good and I hadn’t had trouble otherwise.

    • @TheGypsyChic1
      @TheGypsyChic1  10 месяцев назад +4

      My family struggled to make ends meet, so my parents didn't have money to buy non-necessities. We had very few toys, etc. We did have some crayons, but on school paper I didn't like that they left white gaps. I was picky then too, Lol! I still dreamed of having the 72 set of crayons with the built in sharpener though. I thought all my friends that had that were rich. ;D I think maybe my parents didn't want any of us to go into art, because they were afraid we would struggle too maybe? I'm not sure, and I don't want to make them feel bad so I've never asked. Maybe Crayola markers were really expensive in the late 80's? 💗
      Sizing is kind of like a glue coating that prevents watercolors from soaking into your paper right away. Which gouache were you using? Was it acrylic gouache, because that is the gouache that is more shiny. Here is a good article if you want to read more about sizing.

      @@TheGypsyChic1 I pick up school supplies for my friend’s daughter in the summer when those things go on sale for a dollar - but now that I’m thinking about it there probably weren’t massive sales like that back then - I don’t remember seeing so much stuff out like there is now when I was a kid in the 80s.
      Thanks for the paper explanation- I looked it up when I got a response from the co,pant on sizing but it’s one thing I can’t quite understand about art supplies. The glue thing helps!
      It was Stoneground Paint Co solid gouache - it’s a Canadian company. I really love them (I hate using tubes so I rarely use my Holbein gouache, pouring and dying it results in a cracking mess, and my jelly gouache dried up on me in a year). I just had a shine on one of the colors - when I asked the company about it they sent me a replacement plus 2 other colors free which was kind of shocking! If the new one still has a shine I’ll try on another paper. Thanks again for the explanation on sizing being off!

    The sizing of the paper might be bad! Bad sizing causes strange texture, dull colors, and the paint absorbs into the page instead of sitting on top-it can even go through the page to the back. Even on cheaper cellulose paper, sizing goes bad over time but can be restored! Holbein watercolor sizing liquid and Daniel Smith watercolor ground can be applied to resize and save the paper in beloved sketchbooks and sheet paper-both cheap, student grade and expensive professional grade. Teoh Yi Chie has a great video on how to tell when sizing is bad and how to restore sizing, and he explains much better than I could.
