I still have mine that I bought new in the 80's. Great camera. Works fine. When photography was fun. Nothing else to think about. Just shoot and have fun!!!
Lovely camera, I was able to get a mint condition late model year FM2/T from Japan. When all my electronic film cameras are dead this will still work perfectly. Hard to beat a fully mechanical camera.
Excellent as always, Jonathan; I possess the FM, but admittedly, the shutter speed is somewhat limited at 1/1000 sec; methinks I need to make an addition in the form of the FM2n. Thank you !
Been really enjoying your videos and find them to be very informative. I'm currently looking for the toughest Nikon 35mm body that has a reliable lightmeter - what do you reckon would be a good bet? Need to be able to survive being put in a bag thats constantly being banged around and sat on (not ideal, I know). Been looking at the FM2n but not sure if it would be a step down in durability compared to something like an F2. Thanks
FM2 for under 250 CAD, FE2 for under 350 CAD, FM3a over 1200 CAD. The prices on the FM3a has gone crazy over the past three years. I do agree the FM3a is the best of the lot but it isn’t 4 to 5 times better though.
Except for a few lenses that don't have a meter coupling you cannot use pre (non) ai lenses on the FM2 as they will foul the ai tab. The FM/FE you use pre ai as they have a provision to move the ai tab out of the way.
Some lenses with the non-AI coupling do still mount. You do need to be careful that the edge of the aperture ring does not exert excessive pressure on the AI tab. But with a bit of care and a common-sense approach it is possible to use them, albeit in a sub-optimal way. I’d only suggest doing this if using a lens very occasionally. For your day-to-day lenses, I agree, avoid non-AI and stick to AI and AIS. Thanks for commenting.
The Nikon FE2 is a nice camera but spares are no longer available. The FM2 is mechanical so repair isn’t usually an issue. Worst case scenario is you lose the meter - not the end of the world. Camera buyers beware. The truth you MUST know about older digital and film equipment. ruclips.net/video/Icpe8tJqOIg/видео.html
I like the FE2 better due to the better light meter, have both and use both. Batteries are cheap and I keep a half dozen in the bag. Usually have the FE2 loaded with colour and the FM2 with T-Max
I come to your channel after watching "Civil War " movie. This camera is a legend
Yes! Absolutely.

Agree 100%!

The FM2/T is a beautiful camera …. and becoming very hard to find.

Thanks - glad it was useful.
Always excellent! Considering getting one and this was useful. Cheers!

Probably a Nikon F4 or F5 if size isn’t an issue.
Fm3a all day!
I’m a big fan of the original Nikon FM, preferably in black. But they’re all fantastic cameras!

why not FE2 ???
Because if the battery is dead you only have 1 shutter speed

@holleyman1970 FE2 and FM2 are both great Nikons.
I've been told by a reputable camera repairer that some unscrupulous 'engineers' use cheap sound-proofing foam rather than the correct light seals.
Yes, I’ve seen all sorts used!
I miss the great ergonomics of the Nikon FM series cameras ... 🦘
Yes, agree! Thanks for commenting.
