In this fifth lesson of our series on the Korean Alphabet Hangeul, we, Korean teacher Hyunok Jang and Korean learner Gerhard, introduce you to the 5 Korean double consonants. These explosive sounds are crucial for correct pronunciation and fluency in Korean.
We’ll guide you through the pronunciation of each double consonant, compare them to their single consonant counterparts, and provide practice examples to help you master these sounds. Double consonants are pronounced with more tension and no air escaping the mouth, resulting in a more explosive sound that fades away immediately.
We’ll also compare double consonants to their single counterparts and aspirated consonants, and demonstrate the correct way to produce these sounds using practical exercises.
