Never would have thought you would come to Buffalo to start a journey. My backyard. Didn't stay long enough for a tour of wings. I get it, work trip. Interesting on the Reds and Greens with switching on the ICW
So happy to see your channel. Have been viewing your videos for weeks now and will always refer to them for your great tips, advice & trips! Keep it going. Glad you survived the hurricane.
Great instruction! We have 40+ years experience on more than 10 different boats, but the learning never stops and it’s always helpful to watch videos like this and think through the motions and maneuvers in our heads to stay fresh. New subscriber. 😊
We're on ICW between St. Augustine and Daytona. We've run aground three times...so far...in a shallow draft bowrider. Very shallow where you least expect it. Red, green - stay between.
Great vid Capt!! Myself and my wife have been watching for the last few weeks. Algorithm threw one of your videos my way and I like the way you present yourself and the content. We’re learning a bunch from you. Got a ten year plan… we just bought a tuxedo shop from her Daddy and she’s the tailor and I rent the tux’s and suits. Gonna save, save, save then buy one and cruise. I grew up going to the boat every weekend with my folks. My Pop always had a boat. He had a 1953 40ft Elco that felt like a super yacht because I was so young. Spent many a summer weekend at Nappatree Pt, Watch Hill R.I. Really appreciate your channel and thanks for the tips.
I grew up on the Great Lakes. My dad started boatiing in the summer of '81 with a late 60's '38 Chris Craft Commander and in the spring of '83 he upgraded to a 1973 '42 Uniflite. Chris Craft had twin gas engines and the Uniflite had twin Cummins diesels. A world of difference and we both much prefered the power, longevity and reliability of the Cummins. The Uniflite was way up in northern Michigan (we're in Cleveland, Oh) and he took our marina head mechanic with him for the trip. In the spring of '83 my dad had much to still learn and our marina mechanic was a godsend and purveyor of more marine & boating knowledge than anyone else. Sometimes you need someone who's got vast experience and a Captain to help.
That wind picked up on ya there. Great vid.. tricky conditions, new boat/owners. Ive been debating a 40ish foot purchase... a Sedan Bridge,(Sea Ray 42 or Meridian 391) but if i ever had to single hand it, it could be tough. Might restrict me to calmer days.. an Express Cruiser might be a better fit (boat will stay in Lake st clair and the great lakes.). Also.. considering gerting some sort of captains license... Im sure there are already YT videos on that. 😊
I’m on Lake St Clair too. I progressed from jet boat, to 26’ Express, to 35’ Express. Contemplated a flybridge style boat, but decided against due to single-handling concerns. The 35’ Express is manageable (not that I haven’t had a few close calls docking).
I’m a first time subscriber. It was interesting and fun to watch. Good job having patience with the future loopers. You may need to return to Ohio for a fresher course in the spring. Good job though!
Yeah I hold a six pack used to run charters on lake Erie. I know what you mean I can't count the number of times I pulled up to a gas dock had some summer part-time kid handling lines. Yikes! This guy will be fine if he goes out on calm day no wind and does a little practicing he'll figure it out. Twin screws a lot easier to handle than a single once you get used to them. Nice job Great video
Keeping you and your community in our prayers with the upcoming storm. We were suppose to head to Trade Winds in a few weeks but got an email yesterday from the resort they are closed. Hoping to still make it down to check out a 455 Cruiser to bring back up to Southwest Michigan. Currently have a CC381 in Benton Harbor, MI.
In 1998 , was on lake Superior. Motor yacht. Nice day for sure. Out of nowhere the weather changed. I didn't know if the captain of are boat would make it back. She let us live. Never again. They are seas not lakes.
I guess no one wants to talk about the obvious issues with captain and his first mate, to be a first mate you need to be a proactive person and the captain in training need to follow instructions or they will be on the statistics book, sorry dont mean to be harsh but that is the reason too many accidents on the water, perhaps they will need a second set of hands.. other than that captain you maintained your cool and your professionalism, i know captains they would have been yelling and screaming at those poor customers. Good Work!!!
I’ve taught many to drive twins. So pick it up right away others never get it. I had one that didn’t know port from starboard so I started telling him left and right and he didn’t know left from right. He never did get it and sold the boat.
Do you ever reprecision boats the Houston Texas area? Clear Lake Texas, Seabrook Texas, Texas City Texas, Galveston Texas. Are all an hour or less from where I live.
No reason they can't. Ypu watched 1 video of them learning. Reps make you better. And it tales a good amount. Crazy to judge off the first time. Nerves get better with experience. Which let's you think more clear.
No offense, but I kinda felt bad for the guy. You never know though, sometimes when your alone you learn lessons quicker than with an instructor. As long as you mitigate any damage, some folks learn better that way. 8) Peace --gary
He is going to be ok after some experience, at first he should not be going out on windy days. He can find a buoy to work on close quarter maneuvers on, nothing to hit that way. She needs to learn to be pro-active and get in a rhythm.
It has to be soooooooo internally frustrating to try and teach what comes so naturally to you and obviously completely foreign to them. The first sign is the complete lack of timing. This is for every one of your videos like this.

Shelly should be wearing a life jacket when walking around deck
I boat in Florida all the time. I learned something from this video with Red on the dirt side. Thanks

Nice fueling station. Our local is just cement and pilings. The fuelmasters are terrific, thank goodness.

Great job by all. To the new owners , enjoy the boat. Congratulations.

Red right return, return starts on the ICW in Brownsville TX

Enjoyed your video… great instruction! Thanks for sharing.
My home town, Ashtabula, Ohio!!!!

I don’t see this ending well. They need a lot more experience with that boat before attempting a 6k mile journey.

Too much boat for that first mate….hope they have grandkids that want to go
love the content! very educational. please more when you have the time. safe travels brother.
Buffalo to Ashtabula is a very simple run. I'm surprised he needed someone.

Man looks like yall going to catch it again this year ! Coming from a south Louisiana guy I feel for yall over there in Florida !
Have fun on the loop!

Dock masters at both stops didn’t help matters. But good example that the captain has to be prepared for those situations.
Nothing worse than them having the line , then letting the line go. Capt has to always watch and never assume.

on lake erie.... thats concidered a sunny day.....lol
Leaving Dunkirk in the opening scene. I was just at the Dunkirk Pier and saw the Argo (it's always there) last weekend.
I’ve taught many to drive twins. So pick it up right away others never get it. I had one that didn’t know port from starboard so I started telling him left and right and he didn’t know left from right. He never did get it and sold the boat.
ahh....good old erie pa.... my hometown
Not sure if you are back in Tampa prepping boats….Im over at Twin Dolphin Marina….

Thanks. I learn so much from your training videos. I need to get more b@lls with my own boat. SGI and Tampa.....
i like your videos now i understand red right return simple, i always boated lake erie
No offense I don’t think they gonna be able to handle that boat once you’re gone probably gonna be just a dock sitting boat

You filmed this last week, didn't you? I was at the outside bar with my gf when I saw you guys back out. Small world!
No offense, but I kinda felt bad for the guy. You never know though, sometimes when your alone you learn lessons quicker than with an instructor. As long as you mitigate any damage, some folks learn better that way. 8) Peace --gary
You’re only as good as your 1st mate.
Presque Isle Peninsula, not island,

Has anyone taken a uscgaux safe boating class ?
What brand and size boat?
It was a 40’ President after cabin
