Floor Pan Replacement - Quick, Cheap And Easy

- In my opinion the worst part of any restoration is fixing old rusty floors. I've learned a few tricks over the years, so I figured I'd try to share some tips in this video.
The project is an old 4x4 Square Body but the principles translate over to basically any car/truck in need of repair.
Typically floor repair is one of the cheapest repairs you can do to a car. Most floor pans are readily available to make the job easier. Also since it will be under the car and under the carpet it doesn't have to look great. It needs to be strong, seal out the vehicles exhaust and be properly sealed to prevent further rust.
Let me know what you think of the video in the comments below.

Dan that is one of my favorite things ever. Fixing up an old pick up truck. And not to be a show truck. A fun beater with a heater. Keep it up. Thanks for the fun show.
Yeah maybe a winch and some decent tires. Then use it as it was intended
Thanks for sharing. Nice when the Mig serves as a bonus space heater in the Land of a 100,000 chills. Best to you and yours.

I always learn something new in your videos.. With floor repair I keep thinking..work from the top.. How can I weld this from above..overlap is ok. Just seam seal the heck out of it!😉
Yeah as long as its strong and sealed you should be just fine.
Not bad at all. Looks really good. Thanks for sharing. I hate being cold too. Just ask my wife. I say it all winter.
Your doing a great job! That truck is gonna be nice!

Great job with the floors. Love your comments -"cause I'm an idiot. Story of my life". Funny stuff. Sounds like myself.
Hahs thanks
Dealing with rust is no fun. Very satisfying when the repair is complete. Short time pain, long time gain. Floors look great.
I'm always dealing with rust haha
Just wanted to give you some insight on square body Chevy’s. I inherited an ‘86 from my grandpa. He bought it with 9,000 miles on it in ‘89. The floors rust out because the wing windows leak. The fix is either convert the window to a full roll up window (not an “original” repair) or order new window seals from LMC Truck or Brothers Trucks. They carry the upgraded window seals and locks that help keep water out.
Another thought, inlinetube.com carries replacement pre-bent brake line and parking brake parts. They are decently priced and the lines fit perfectly. I had to replace all the lines on my truck and it took about 1.5 hours to replace all the lines. They carry a large variety of years, males and models.
Truck looks great!
Direct fit my friend, cheers from wa
Yeah turned out pretty decent.
Nice job, looks good in flat black like always 🥤
DIYer tip on welding with gaps, metal coat hanger is your best friend. Use the same way as a tig filler rod. Cheap or free. People doubt the strength of it, I had to trail weld some camber adjusters on a rig a few yrs ago. All we had was coat hangers and some guy had a cutting torch. Long story short dude trail rigged for a couple more yrs and wrecked it pretty bad, everything else around the welds was torn or broke. Anyone else used coat hanger?? Great vids as always keep jamming away!
Right on
Yeah you got to love an old square body. they made it forever they must not use as much salt as they do down here in Iowa
Yes the floor pan for the left make life easier... Rights looking good... Keep up the good work..
The floors turned out great
Looks good Dan! You make it look easy. I need to do some in my '76 F100, keep procrastinating it....🙄
Is there a group of people hording steering wheel horn buttons in Manitoba...? 🤣
Haha I hope I find one

It's a sweet truck!! I picked up the 454ss yesterday and it died a half mile from my house. Thinking fuel pump.

Dan, I am afraid you picked the wrong place to live, if you don't like being cold. Lol thanks for the video and thanks for entertaining us
Nice touch with the hillbilly music.
nice work
Hey Dan, I bought floor mats for my 85 through LMC. They were "Husky" floor mats. Could have just ordered right from them. Anyway, they are great and your new carpet won't get wet at all.
Thanks for the tip! I'll look em up
few years ago the aftermarket offered body bushings that lowered the body, and a set that raked the body, by gradually reducing the hight of the
the bushings from rear to front.
Hockey Puck Dan brought me here
Looks Stock great job 🖒🇨🇦🇺🇸
Can't wait to get to work on me and the wife's k5s, I figured while I'm waiting to get a welder id go ahead and watch every video I could find, every little bit helps, nice work man.

Sweet! What you wrenching on?
Wassup nice old truck
Thanks
Nice work! Your very good at welding!
Man those floors look great! Now have you ever looked into fluid flim for the frame, I have used that for years here in Maine and man it saves the vehicle from rusting. Now they have what they call woolwax it comes in black smells great and makes the frame look new. I just did my truck in it, I bought a gallon off of Amazon cost 60.00 us dollars a gallon. Check it out, might be something to get into places around here charge 150.00 to 200.00 us dollars a vehicle. Oh and don't forget Gun metal gray color for the truck when you paint it lol!
Yup a little undercoating. Then I'll probably bar oil it. Try to save it the best I can.
Looks good ,floor work looks soled nice looking truck.
Looking good brother hope you got some brackets for the alternator and power steering pump
No ps yet. Gunna have to get creative
Sweet
every body mount I have taken apart breaks
The square body looks good
Haha yeah I lucked out on this one.
Yup👍👍
Well done, walking thru a muddy field comes to mind but you made it worth while. Nice and tight and installated!!
I agree with you Dan Rick and his guys at Old Time Garage do beautiful work . His former body man Dave is gone I guess there was a problem between them but they never said why he left. I don't know if you watch Coldwarmotors but he just did a custom metalflake paint job on an old van plus all the body work, what an artist he is.
Good job..good channel!
Nice fit Dan!
I would insulate behind the seat too dude. Total cab warmth. mmmmm nice.
Nice work I was nice watching how you did it need to do mine keep up with the filming it helps alot of us out thanks
