I like the more white dial of the 009 version and the subtlety of the pattern - saw it yesterday in person for the first time. Just beautiful.

Same same. Saw them both in person and while both are great, the 009 was better and just more special in person and on wrist.

I own both of them, and I definitely love the SD that the accuracy is so good. I'm going to sell my Hi-Beat White Birch.

Thanks for sharing this. Tried both today and the 009 just drew new in while the 005 was beautiful but different. The 009 felt like a timeless classic that could be dress up or down and got better the closer you looked.

Both great, but I prefer the SD for multiple reasons. The hi-beat of course has an amazing movement, but for me personally the spring drive technology is such an important part of Grand Seiko's DNA. That perfectly smooth sweep of the seconds hand is mesmerizing (I own two). In theory, the hi-beat has a better dial, with it's deeper cuts and that bit of sparkle, but I find the color off-putting in that the entire watch ends up looking essentially one color -- dial, hands, markers, case, and bracelet. I like the whiter tone of the SD version for sure. After all, I've never seen a glittery metallic silver "white birch" tree.... 🤔

Prefer the high beat. The relief texture on the dial is more visible.

I like the spring drive dial better. Not keen on the silver high beat dial.
The spring drive version is like an improved snowflake. Slightly smaller, more wearable, cleaner looking due to the power reserve being on the underside.

Saw both in person at the boutique, I really preferred the spring driver version for several reasons including the dial is white not silver, softer, more legible, the texture is more subtle and it has the power reserve on the back. I also like the movement better.

I went with the Hi Beat for its pure mechanical movement. I do prefer the silver tone texture as well. That said, you can’t go wrong with either one.

I would was hoping this video would show more detail. I have noticed the lighting is a bit bright in the reflection and you move very quick. Maybe you could put the watch on a lazy susan. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
