My next watch will be the Hi Beat white birch. People don’t realize that there are $25,000 watches with in house movements that don’t look as good and aren’t as technically impressive. Grand Seiko could have charged $20,000 for this watch and people would have still bought it. Just under $10,000 is a steal. No wonder this watch won the Men’s watch of the year award at GPHG 2021.

GS have to be lower priced as the general public see them as ‘just a seiko’ and ‘ why would I pay thousands for a Seiko’ my local AD still has watches in its window it had a year ago, chatting to the salesman he was saying they just don’t sell, they sell 20 Omega for every GS, I’ve just sold one of my GS and it got nowhere near the attention my Omega did, far fewer views and took longer to sell.

Grand Seiko is still very underrated imho! And in that case I don't mean the watches itself but the brand in general. Dominik Maegli from Uhrsachen really highlights the importance of the brand and their history as well as craftmanship. For me GS is one of the few brands nowadays that are REALLY into making great products while still cherishing the past history and current principles of fine watchmaking. Thanks a lot for showing, Marko & Uhrsachen! The new SLGA009 is a great addition to the collection and thanks to the more subtle dial an instant reaction to the market.

  • @loweewolwed9834

One of the better videos around. Your footage is exemplary. When a Swiss watchmaker in the fourth generation praises a Japanese watch manufacturer and says it stands equal to "his" iconic Rolex anyone looking to make their first purchase really don´t need anymore proof. I´m a trained watchmaker myself (WOSTEP 2001-2004) and even though I´m currently not a practicing one I know what it takes to produce time pieces on this level. If you settle for anything but the immaculate, don´t bother.
On my wrist sits the (discontinued) Grand Seiko Heritage SBGR251. For me a perfectly sized 37mm case displaying the reliable, and in it´s own way, beautifully finished 9S65A with a 72h power reserve and a 100M of water resistant and know this...every single watch leaving Grand Seiko has been worked on with the same pursuit for perfection regardless of price. How many brands out there can say that and really mean it, stand by it and put it to the test. Very very few and GS is one of them. I whish you guys a prosperous 2022 as in sales trough the roof and tens of thousand of new subscribers.

I just yesterday bought the 009 SD at the Ginza flagship boutique. I went back and forth with the 005 HB. I prefer the 005 dial but the 009 won out for me at least based on uniqueness of movement. Both are beautiful and while I like lume for night legibility I see the beauty in the polished markers. Both watches, while striking and mechanical marvels, look and feel substantial.

Very well done Marko. As expected! I already have SBGA373 which is Spring Drive in original 44GS case and it is a beautiful watch. GS is at its very heart more special than Rolex, owners know that and it's why you buy GS. They are also, ahem, available... So I am more interested in the new Hi-Beat calibre which is its own fantastic thing. That said, the new SLGA White Birch I prefer for its more subtle aesthetic.

The 005 is imo too shiny when you see it in the metal, but the hi-beat movement is lovely. I still like my snowflake better but the 009 is my favourite of these two. Spring drive all day. The hi beat is beautiful but on wrist I much prefer the whiter dial of the spring drive, just a cleaner look that I think goes better with a variety of bands. Also the indices pop like jewels on the white dial whereas they get lost a little on the hi beat because the dial is more grey/silver. Lastly, spring drive, just can’t beat it. On that merit alone I’d go the SLGA009. The hi beat is having issues and a lot of people are having to send it in for service.

Hey man, love the channel. Thanks for the vid. The one thing I can’t stand is that ugly cheap plastic Presage minute chapter ring around the dial. When you see the lovey printing on a Snowflake, you just can’t live with it. The untapered bracelet is the next unbearable thing about it. All in all, close but no dice YET. Eventually GS will crack the code but they’re not there yet. I root for them though, they’re the first brand that can take away the Datejust market but they have to stop cheapening of a couple of easily fixed items. The GMTs are also a tweak away from being top dogs.

i smirk whenever i see videos comparing rolex and GS becos it is so stupid. Rolex is a complete entry level luxury with the best quality at its price point(retail price), while GS is still cutting corner on clasp and stuff which keep reminding ppl that they are just expensive seiko. Not mention the lack of variety like complications and lady watch models, and those rolex lookalike sports model. Long watch making history but focus on cheap and quartz watches. i wouldnt deny the fact that GS has better finishing on the case and hands, but i dont think they can even beat tudor/breitling/omega in terms of the overall quality and branding.

im annoyed with comments saying that "005 is too shinny" or "like the cleaner look of 009". Yes some ppl may truly think that, but im sure many of them just want to follow what other ppl said becos it is a newer model. Dont forget the crazy dial of 005 is what makes White birch stand out from the other GS model, and 009 probably wouldnt even exist without the popularity of 005.

Guy on the left was reading notes the whole time right? Felt awkward. Awesome watches tho.

Perfect watch, if bracelet would be tapered.... At least something to improve.

Great play on words in the name the place. To bad only German speakers will get it. But isn't there a bit of hate against Seiko/Grand Seiko in Switzerland... Quartz crisis and so on?

For it to really take off you need wealthy watch collectors to want them, not just kids. Completely take off the Seiko name on the watch, Just put "GS" would be an improvement. Really they should of named it something completely different like what Toyota did with Lexus.

SO, they decided to change a special stunning watch into a boring and common looking watch😮,
    and make it electrical.

Some of us prefer the practicality and technological aspects of the spring drive. Does not make it "boring"

@@AKhan.28 I agree, Spring Drive does not make a watch boring. Usually it is the dial.

@@mattilatvala4164 Yah I'm not a fan of how they toned down the "carving" on the dial of this new spring drive version of the white birch, although I do like how they've finally started to move power reserve indication to the back side. My main complaint still with GS is that the cases are still too thick. Hopefully they address this in the near future and manage to slim the cases down

I know GS fanboys hate the power reserve on the front, but it’s utterly pointless on the back, either put it where you can see it or don’t bother at all.
