- I just purchased my 2nd Grand Seiko in a month's time, the White Birch (SLGH005)! So I wanted to put out a video explaining my obsession with this brand and give you my initial impressions for this fine timepiece.

What a stunner. The macro was great but still doesn't do that dial justice compared to in the flesh. Fun comment on Sanjay, just don't start flipping right after a review and you're good.

Congrats Toran on acquiring the White Birch. I expected you to get one but honestly thought you'd wait to get it from Sanjay when he decides to flip it! Ooo -that's a nice watch. I really want that movement - just not sure which watch. This Birch is very tempting.
This grows the longer you wear it. Simply stunning watch and the dial does amazing things in different light conditions….especially under moonlight, which really captivates what the designers were going for in the white birch forest story.
The movement ticks away about exactly +8 seconds per 24 hours, I hope it would be better than that but the high beat 80 power reserve with 100m water resistance is a package that can’t be argued with for the price.
It has replaced a 10 year old Submariner as the favorite day-to-day watch.
how do you feel about dial legibility? Essentially you got silver on silver hands on silver/white backdrop so the contrast isnt the greatest. Doesnt it blend all together when you're outside? That's what holding me back but I havent been able to check it out outside.
@@Translation-in-Malaysia I get your point. Personally I haven’t found any difficulty as tue polished hands and hour markers reflect the light in a totally different way to the dial.
The dial effect doesn’t shine and is subtle in contrast to the shine of the polish.

@@Translation-in-Malaysia only problem I have with the watch is that it ticks too fast thereby gaining about 15 seconds per day.
I put that next to my Spring Drive and it’s a little disappointing. However others have reported a better time keeping range so I think I’ll get mine serviced under the warranty….and resurface a 10 year old Submariner that was replaced as my day-to-day watch by the White Birch…it’s a lovely watch to wear.

Do you still have the White Birch? Any issues with the accuracy?
I swapped it for the Spring drive edition of the white birch, but no issues with accuracy after over a year of ownership
movement issues put me off

All you're doing by buying GS is supporting misaligned bezels in their poor-man watches.
Do NOT buy Grand Seiko new
..or any other brand for that matter. Apart from Rolex

Sanjay's insidious agenda has infected me as well and I am now looking at buying a Grand Seiko from an AD knowing full well of its toxic resale value! Grand Seiko needs to send Sanjay all the swag they produce if not give him an exclusive release announcement or watch.
