This entire movie was kinda just a bunch of the best fight animators in the industry getting together and saying "but what if we just went really hard tho?" And then they did that, and it rules.
More Nakamura please. That man animated some of the most visually impressive scenes in animation in general. Inspired a lot of animators that are just as prominent today. Plus his style and animation techniques are easy to spot. I feel like more animation students should study his work. Also please do more well known Japanese animators like Mitsuo Iso, Koji Morimoto, Ichiro Itano, Yoshinori Kanada, Koh Yohshinori etc
I still consider this the best sword fight in anime. No phantasms or super powers. Just great choreography animated beautifully. It's almost sad how barely anyone reacted to this film. And they're mostly just reactions to the final fight. Also, for some mind-blowing animation in a different way, I suggest Hiroyuki Okiura, Toshiyuki Inoue, and Takeshi Honda. Their consistency and realistic physics+anatomy in films like Ghost In The Shell (1995 and especially "Innocence") or Jin-Roh. It's not flashy animation. It's grounded. And it's almost scary how good it looks. You'd be forgiven if you think it's all rotoscoped. Just pick up a few scenes from Ghost in the Shell: Innocence. I'm sure you guys will understand what I mean when you see the character animation in that film.
Agreed! It's really really well made. Happy that some of you guys agree and you appreciate even if it's not the most popular clip we could react to!! :D
At this point in the story there weren’t really any stakes, all of the Chinese fighters were dead and Luo Lang didn’t care about the kid, and would most likely have left him alone if he defeated Nanashi, at this point it was basically Luo Lang; “fight?” Nanashi: “ok”
If anything, this fight isn't for Nanashi, it's for Luo Lang. It's the culmination of his arc. Luo Lang has spent the entire film looking for someone worth fighting, and when Nanashi refuses the medicine, he realises that this is the fight he's been looking for. And then there's the small detail. The one that makes his reaction to Nanashi's refusal make sense. When he takes the hit to the cheek, he reacts to the tiny cut. When run through, he comments that this is what pain feels like. Luo Lang never took the medicine that the Chinese warriors were taking - Luo Lang always fought in a state where he could feel pain. That Nanashi, already wounded, refused the painkiller proved to Luo Lang that he was better than the warriors he'd been associating with. It proved what he'd suspected from Nanashi's previous exploits. Here was a true warrior. Here was a man worth fighting.
@@eruantien9932 yep I think Luo fully intended to die in that fight because that is what he wanted, his whole goal was to find someone who could beat him fair and square, which is why he was so quick to betray the priest as he was about to shoot Nanashi. Despite being the only two foreigners in the cast and being demeaned as devil or barbarian, they were the only two warriors with true sportsmanship and honor, despite their flaws (Nanashi killing innocents in the past and Luo just being a rather amoral person in general)
His life was still at stake. Moreover, Nanashi couldn't be certain about Luo Lang's intentions towards the boy either. The guy was chasing the kid for the whole film, and knew the boy was valuable to certain people. There was still a risk to the boy that Nanashi wanted to get rid of completely.
I watched this for over 10 times now and I still love it! Gorgeous animation and choreography.. and the story is beautiful! Favorite Action anime of all time hands down !
In case you didn’t know, Nanashi, the black hair character, uses many ways to keep his blade somehow warm, or at least not as cold as the other guy, that way it doesnt break mid fight due to how strong the guy he’s fighting against is, like it happened to his opponent as you can see at 2:41 and 3:09 and his chances of winning don’t go down. Instances where he tried to keep the blade from getting too cold : 0:33 2:37 This whole movie is a masterpiece, it’s sad to see it doesn’t get as much recognition as it deserves, so much that Studio Bones dropped the sequel to this movie because it didn’t do as well as they were hoping for
You are wrong though, Japanese sword are not meant to clash with another sword. According to Japanese swordsmith, this is why samurai must learn one hit kill to prevent sword clashing if not it will break apart. What you saw with every samurai movie or anime is wrong when they make Japanese sword clashed. Japanese sword is too thin to handle the force which is why Japanese samurai swordfighting is not complex until musashi kishimoto create dual wield style. Meanwhile if you look at blonde dude, his style is Chinese swordfighting which is very complex and can attack at any angle unlike Japanese samurai. I remember watching RUclips video when Chinese master use Japanese sword and looks how he use Chinese style using Japanese sword
I hope you guys could react to any Kyoto Animation work as well. They probably have the most consistent output in the anime industry in terms of production since they do everything in-house.
Something to take note on as well. The character in the blonde hair is Chinese and is distinctively fighting Chinese style with his sword while the other is using the Japanese style of sword fighting. 💯
If you watch the movie you won't said that. That blonde dude is Rome people who migrate to China, meanwhile our MC is actually redhead and presumely his dad is Christian monk who try to spread Christianity in Japan but got killed and only he survived

I remember watching this movie ages ago. Amazing how it still holds up perfectly after all these years!
Yes, just goes to show how good craftsmanship and artistry doesn't age !!!

thanks for the reaction and this really thought through comment :D
oh hell yeah, definitely will look at ghost in the shell
I almost literally recommended this film lol, best animated fight scene hands down I have ever seen. The composition and camerawork is untouched.
Agreed! It's really really well made. Happy that some of you guys agree and you appreciate even if it's not the most popular clip we could react to!! :D
@Ono If it happened in my head, then it happened. I encourage you to change my mind XD

Such an amazing scene, the animation, the MUSIC, all of it, just **chef's kiss**
Glad people are reacting to this anime, its so so good
it is so overlooked tbh >o< but its so good
Their enthusiasm is so wholesome!
I watched this for over 10 times now and I still love it! Gorgeous animation and choreography.. and the story is beautiful! Favorite Action anime of all time hands down !
Agreeed!!! The choreography is so impressive and seeing that they animated it on paper still blows my mind
Oh wow, I'd never heard of this movie before. Thanks for introducing it to me, will definitely check it out. Great analysis as always!
Tbf it's a skip to the end kind of movie
Woah awesome I didn't know they had this kind of a channel nice
I recommend the final fight between Goemon and Hawk from the movie Lupin the Third: The Blood Spray of Goemon Ishikawa
Oh yeah we love lupin! Good suggestion, I'll put it on the list
Fun fact: if it's cold, like -10c/14f, swords do break quite easily
In case you didn’t know, Nanashi, the black hair character, uses many ways to keep his blade somehow warm, or at least not as cold as the other guy, that way it doesnt break mid fight due to how strong the guy he’s fighting against is, like it happened to his opponent as you can see at 2:41 and 3:09 and his chances of winning don’t go down.

Ohh, if you have not seen Redline, its worth reacting to that x3.
Still holds up!
Trueee!
I still want a reaction for The Rhino and The Redbill
I hope you guys could react to any Kyoto Animation work as well. They probably have the most consistent output in the anime industry in terms of production since they do everything in-house.
hell yesss, violet evergarden is in the works! stay tuned :D
I recommend you the work of Masahiro Ando and Masahiro Sato! They're great animators and are integral part of this movie!
thanks for the recommendation, will definitely check out :D
I remember the story being kinda mid but the music and fights being goated
My watching list of animes is too long. Now it's gotten even longer....
i feel this comment ugh
You guys should check out the final fight from the bebop movie amazing choreography in that
Something to take note on as well. The character in the blonde hair is Chinese and is distinctively fighting Chinese style with his sword while the other is using the Japanese style of sword fighting. 💯
The Blonde guy is not Chinese, and the other guy isn’t Japanese. They are both foreigners among their peers
If you watch the movie you won't said that. That blonde dude is Rome people who migrate to China, meanwhile our MC is actually redhead and presumely his dad is Christian monk who try to spread Christianity in Japan but got killed and only he survived
amazing
thank uu
Mave mmmmhhh still waiting for review😢
Mortality.... This fight is about mortality
Favourite anime movie 💯
Could you react to the Anime Gundam Unicorn scenes? The animation is superb.
I need bleach.. for reasons
i've no idea whats is going on but it looks so sad
btw thanks to Lena for the movie recommendation!
They seem a bit slow
willing to bet zero women were involved in the storyboard or animation of this epic scene.
1:30 I hate people that just react to random clips without see the rest of the film or series, i just don't get it
