Like a lot of Rick's regular viewers I'm about the same age as Rick. As I was listening to this countdown, it just occurred to me how lucky I was to be alive and listening to all of these songs when they were released. There's not a lot of great things about getting to be this age in life, but it really is a blessing to be able to think back about the times in your life when these songs were first popular on the radio.

Going through my late father's cd's, I came across one he had written, titled "Best rock ballads". His choices were the following:
Child in time by Deep Purple
Send me an angel by The Scorpions
Feels good to me by Black Sabbath
    Heartbreak station by Cinderella
    Edie by The Cult
Soldier of fortune by Deep Purple
    Belladonna by UFO
Believe in love by The Scorpions
Dying for love by Black Sabbath
Stairway to heaven by Led Zeppelin
You make me feel by Bonfire
    November rain by Guns'n'Roses
When a blind man cries by Deep Purple
    Nothing else matters by Metallica
You could say that it brought to me exposure to artists I at the time hadn't even heard of and got me interested in going through the work of both the ones I just discovered and others I thought I knew. So I thought I'd share it.

Rick tends to excessively reward the bands who are assholes and block him for posting their music. I don’t get it. He should be telling them to fuck off.

Probably one of my favorite Who songs. Not sure I would classify it as a “ballad”, but then again, everyone has their own definitions. To me, it is almost TOO epic and explosive to be considered a ballad. It seems to be a ballad to one’s own self, of being able to accept and embrace love. Personally, I always think of a ballad as a song that reaches out expressive love to another. But hey, that’s just me!
