Where Are The Asian Borders? (Part 3: North America)
Asia is the largest of all continents, covering an area of 44,579,000 square kilometres, that's 30% of the Earth's total land area. It has given rise to many of the world's first civilizations, and has long been home to the majority of the human population.
But have you ever wondered what actually counts as Asia? Where exactly are the borders? Do they sit nicely in between countries, or can a country be divided?
This video is part three of a three part series. We cover the specific Asian borders between Northeast Asia and North America.
In particular: Chukotka, Siberia, Alaska, Wrangel Island, Bering Strait, Bering Land Bridge, Diomede Islands, Russian Empire, the US purchase of Alaska from Russia, state boundaries or continental boundaries affecting the indigenous inuit people, St.Lawrence Island, St. Matthew Island, Pribilof Islands, Kamchatka, Aleutian Islands, Amatignak Island, Semisopchnoi Island, Commander Islands, state 180th meridian line (antimeridian), the International Date Line, the greenhouse effect and global warming.

Kento Bento 😂
Well yeah...
Nice vid
oh gosh i thought you had forgottwn about it
Kento Bento, hello, my name is Kai Bowman, I am one of your subscribers, I like the 2 videos where you uncovered in all 60 racist slurs for Asian people, can you please do a part 3 of 30 racist slurs for Asian people
IT’S ACTUALLY CONSIDERED A PART OF SOUTH AMERICA
If anything, Peru is also a part of Asia ;-)
North Korea isn't part of Asia, it is a part of Antarctica
Libya is now considered oceania
Niilo -
And Canada belongs to Africa.
Kosovo is Serbia land since 999999999999999999999 B. C.
You almost got me fooled twice in this video. First the fake ending in the beginning and then the South America thing at the end. 😂😅😅
I got momentarily fooled even _after_ reading this comment AND knowing that the red time tracker thing was nowhere near the end lmao.
hahahahhah

Or are we?

tongggggg
Hey! Vsauce. Michael here
Huh,beat
And neat
Or is it?
5:56 "...BUT this final stretch here is pretty interesting because it's actually considered part of South Am...just kidding! It's Asian!"
I was totally falling for it, nice one XD
I couldn't resist.
Hey! He exactly described who i am!
"South Am- Just Kidding! It's Asian"
Ha Ha..........

@@KentoBento lol nice one man you got me good
Alaska: The northern-most, eastern-most, and western-most part of the U.S. Huh...
Rom Koppel At least it isn't also the southernmost. That would be confusing.
Sparky Bolt ...but what if it is? **Vsauce music starts**
But what if north is south, and everything we know about directions is false?
**Vsauce music plays**
I think the easternmost is not valid. That wind compass direction definition should be seen starting from USA or Alaska - not by the arftificial east - west supposedly ending in the 180 meridian. Those 0-180 divides are man's mathematics - we should look at the continental masses here, with lenience towards countries and cultures when it comes to islands.
So: only the Westernmost and Northernmost. And MAYBE the easternmost part of Asia geographically, if some islands would be more naturally part of Asia instead of North America.
But the best to put the continental line between the countries. Just I wish the Diomede Islanders could visit each other now.

Dat South America part tho
Persian Mapper hello
Hello fellow persian, salam dadash che khābar
He actually got me, I was like "excuse me wtf"
Did you mean "North America" ?
as a part persian, i think iran is located in oceania
wow sucks that Big and Little Diomedes are separated by political boundaries.
ziljin AND A DAY
I live in us diomide but i see big
ziljin The soviets deported the people off of big diomede to create a military base
So where are the big Diomedians?
borders have separated people for too long already
The dinosaurs came into existence and went extinct when you finally uploaded this
and now, give it an other era, to make Asian Borders part 4, the post-human geography
so like 166 million years?
This person has an American, Canadian, Australian, and a British accent all at the same time wtf
He's Asian, that's why.
@@Drakonus_ LMAO
He sounds pretty Japanese to me. It’s a classic Asian accent
Too obvious he's Japanese, look at his name.
He said in a video that he was half Chinese and half Japanese
Too bad this series is over :(, was very intresting :)
Well there are 6 other continents.....
(Don't worry, 'Where Are The Antarctic Borders?' would only be a one-parter)
Please do it!
hahahahahahahahha
Would be nice! :o
Are you saying that you want the borders to be even more complicated?
This video is so good that even the sponsorship / ad entices me to actually want to try out Brilliant rather than just disregard it as an ad
meh. it's a poor video compared to the other two
I was alive when Kento Bento released the third part!
Desi Bloke I still am, buddy!
Almost thought he abandoned this series for a while
Otherwise how did you comment this
5:56 easily my top 10 anime betrayals of all time lol
Amazing job, I love the joke at 6:00 Unexpected plot twist! hahaha
Actually, it was REALLY dumb! This could have been done in a single, 5-minute, video

Now i really understand why it takes so long to make these videos. Becaus They are so GREAT!!! Keep up the good work Kento
Teacher:The homework is not that hard.
The homework:
This video deserves more views than the other two for it's edits
Hah yeah they were made a year apart so the quality of my constantly-improving editing (and the mic quality!) was quite apparent.
Hmm... if you look closely (at a map or something) you'll notice that Asia and North America are actually on the same continental shelf...
Which means that the continents of the world drops to only two: Afroeurasiamerica and Australia.
Well, and also Antarctica.
Afro-Eurasia-America
Pangea existed billions of years ago, it's all one single planet, duh, lol.
Antarctica!!!!! # respect for antarctica
afroeurasiamericastraliantarctica
or simply : Pangaea
Are you serious
They sold Alaska for 7.2 million
about 116 million USD today... which is still pretty cheap
@@rifkinsa i don't think so. Because you sell something that's too much from you and you have a financial crisis.
@@hijisfriend9030 as far as i know it was used as a waste land by Russia though they earned some quick cash. At that point nobody knew about the oil reserve in Alaska. Which would make it pretty cheap for the amount of land but most of it is not habitable by human because of the harsh environments. Imagine if Alaska was still part of Russia, making Russia i believe the only country spanning 3 continents.
@@intenseowl1255 thanks for added some opinion
@@intenseowl1255 "making russia the only country spanning three continent"
the uk got territories on all seven continent
Yes!!! Been waiting for this!
Can you do this for every continent?
I always wondered the borders of Antarctica, they're so complex and disputed
@@Mauritanian1960 But what will you call it? Every direction is north. So it will be like
"the northernmost and northernmost and also northernmost and again northernmost part of Antarctica"
Fascinating stuff. Nice to see the end of the video series. Marathoned the whole thing since this came out.
I was acctually freaking out when he said "This part gets interesting as it is a part of south america" i was like "WHY did i subscribe to this channel".
6:07
"Hey! Vsauce! Michael here!"

Did not get fooled at 1:45 but got fooled af 6:00
That last little bit about "belonging to South America" was hilarious; thank you for that.
Love the commitment you finish the asia border video!
The ad transition was real smooth.
It's here!!!!
This three part series was quite entertaining and informative. I was hooked from the beginning. I like your presentation and narration style.
1st like
I love this video ! So interesting and the explanation ist funny too !! I love it!!
6:28 Fun fact that picture is wrong because in fact Sweden and Finland both are rising faster than the sea level, meaning they will gain coastline while the rest of the world drowns.
Part 3!?
Great video!!!
Omg I've been waiting soo long... your awesome
I thought this series was goanna be another Doctor Who part 3 incident.
im from NYC. im going to get flooded. noooooooo. but also never want to leave nyc lol.
so is Florida and so many other coastal regions.... NYC, within 80 years, will be under approx. 1 meter below sea level, and we know how that plays out .. bye bye NYC
My whole country will be under water
Tanzimur Rahman
where are you from?
y Maldives
well it's gonna be under water within 30 years so you're the last generation of the island
I’ve been waiting for this forever
Finally, I’ve been waiting for this for months
you should put this on a t-shirt
1:44 I thought it really ended 🤦🏻♂️😂😂😂😂😂
I had wait long for part 3
I'm so glad this finally came out! I've been in suspense for about a year, lol
I feel sorry for the people of the Diomedes islands, being split apart as an after-thought by people they didn't know about (and didn't know about them) thousands of km away drawing a line on a map with no regard to the people on either side of that line.
WE DID IT GUYS!
We completed our journey!
Good one
Hey I just watched your videos all 3 parts didn't have to wait so long sorry for those other guys but that was a fantastic job I learned so much thank you keep it up please.
Took your damn time
Oh yes finally
love ur vids keep up the good work
finally part 3 is out
me never knew that Alaska can be America's easternmost state. 😅
btw, I find considering europe as a separate continent while south asia = a "subcontinent" is preposterous. but hey, it's europeans who've drawn the borders.. and they apparently don't want to be on the same continent as asians. 😏
regardless, thank you for the video, Bento! 😊
Kleco102 Yeah I have absolutely no clue how India hasn't imploded as a country. It is too different across the board. There HAS to be cultural clashes.
Kleco102
yup. I mean if they consider europe a continent, then south asia also deserves to be called a continent instead of a "subcontinent".
as for the reasons why, you've shown them in your post.
Kleco102
i actually think the so called "subcontinent" deserves to be called a continent not only for cultural reasons, but for geophysical ones.
I personally find it ridiculous how in the search of a boundary that geophysically would make sense to some extent, europeans finally decided to take the ural.
remember how the border shifted over centuries because it happens that asia and europe shares the same huge landmass. 😌
anyway, back to ural. compared to the Himalayas, or even to the central european alps, the ural is merely flatland.
you see how europeans were so desperate in trying to find a border that would separate them from asia, they resorted to ural "flatland" for lack of a better option. 🙊
Europe and Asia are mostly the same continent, except for the easternmost part of Russia which is actually North America, at least if we take actual geological features into account such as plate tectonics. Arabia is it's own shit place, Such is also India.
Did it really take so many months to make this part?
Not really. Main reason is 'Asian border burn out'. But I learned my lesson and won't be doing 3-parters anymore!
I love these videos
Good job kento
Finally!!!
Ghy201 for real
Jake Castino what
6:45 The Asia border makes sense until you get to the Middle East in the south west, look how far it sticks out west compared to the rest of Asia, there should be a split from the Caspian Sea down to the Persian gulf so the Middle East excluding most of Iran should be its own continent as it just doesn’t make sense geographically, culturally or politically that the Middle East (excluding Iran) is part of Asia. This new continent would be at the centre of Europe, Asia and Africa. Also culturally Middle Eastern people (again excluding Iran as they are culturally close to south Asians) have nothing in common with Asians, northern Middle Eastern people (Turks, Georgians, Azerbaijanis and Armenians) are culturally much closer to Europeans and southern Middle Eastern people (Arabs/ Afro-Arabs) are culturally vertically identical to North Africans and horn Africans and the Arabian desert is just an extension of the African Sahara so it makes no sense that the Middle East was decided to be part of Asia which it has nothing in common with, Australia was made its own continent so I don’t see why the same cannot be done for the Middle East (excluding Iran) it would make allot more sense.
U r by skin tone much closer to us south Asians than the Iranians.
Wooo episode 3.
OMG i subscribed
**vsauce intesifies**
There was absolutely no reason for this video the be presented in 3 parts, by the way.
Look at at the length of each of his videos, notice how they’re all past the 10min mark,,,,
Wait, shit this ones 7mins nvr mind,,,,
Well, it means that he could work hard on researching, scripting and animating one part, release it and only then start work on the next part, which keeps the content coming instead of having an even longer gap in his upload schedule than he already did.
MIND BLOWING
Very interesting series :)
6:35 the gay planet is attacking
I-Is this real? Am I in heaven?
Persian Mapper no
Thank you for making this video. I really adore geography. Abd this channel is like a heaven for me.
Hey you did good. I liked that
6:02 -ca YOURE LYING
We should use the Florence Meridian not Greenwich see: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_meridian
Zhu Bajie Agreed. Florence is an absolutely beautiful city. It deserves to be the center of the world
Watched all 3 parts...never thought it's this much
Finally it's here
Okay this was a hilarious conclusion. I wish the divide between Asia and North America was less political. As you said, state borders change. And the international date line looks convoluted af. I'm assuming the islands don't have much other geographically significant characteristics then. Such an interesting series!
I like chicken
I love this!
The last part! FINALLY! :D
I was waiting and wondering when part 3 would come
You should do a video like this but with different continents.
FINALLY, THIRD PART FINALLY
You are smart and funny. Thanks
After ages video came in
Finally! Dear goodness that took a long time
I waited sooooo long
lol, this was wonderful. I enjoyed this a lot. The whole part about Alaska was too funny... :)

Love the ending!!!

6:04 You actually got me
Very informative. I never thought about Alaska being a transcontinental state.
Eventualy we got part 3
