I am aware that there are some other ways to cover up or get through this stage, but I personally did not want to promote anything on my channel that I wouldn't do to my locs. 😊 Feel free to comment any ways you all have dealt with this stage though.
Dear Black women, Let’s stop referring to our hair as “ugly” or “awkward” stages. I know it’s not a big deal but we should be careful about the way we refer to ourselves. There’s nothing ugly about us. Embrace all of it. I don’t have alternative language at the moment but it hurts to hear us referring to ourselves in this way. ❤️
I just got my installation two days ago on very short hair! I had traditional locs for over 15 years and also started short. I’m embracing this new journey with confidence and pride 🥰
I like the style with the cornrows on the side, I’ll try that look... I never call my short Sister locks ugly stage, I call them beautiful beginnings. 🥰 I will trust the process.
I’m almost one month in, and my sisterlocks got me looking like a plucked chicken. Yesterday was literally the first day I thought they looked okay. I’m hoping my first wash this weekend will make them look even better, but ultimately I know it’s really just going to take time. I am also optimistic seeing just how fast my hair grows in a month, so I think I might reach my modest length goal the first year.
I am about 6 months in now. I call it the Baby Stage.. I rock some version of a half up half down hairstyle everyday. I love it for what it is blossoming into. #trustingtheprocess
3 days and COUNTING!! I am so excited to start my NEW hair transformation journey 😍 I see beauty in the coming days .My expectations and hope is in the PROCESS and I expect PROGRESS and I believe that my end result will be BEAUTY for ashes...I had to get Biblical for a minute...ANYWHO I am excited 😁
As you should be! I am excited for you. That moment for me was up there with the birth of my kids. I knew something great was about to happen and I must say I wasn't wrong! Let me know how your experience goes. ❤
@@amberdenisetv1232 wow...this journey is truly life transforming...My hair has been Fried, Dyed and laid to the side for so many years! Its so refreshing to take a permanent break from all that.. what is so beautiful is the transformation that is happening daily..😆 I am so looking forward to days ahead..I'm one month in so far and I am taking pics each month chronologicaling my journey. thank you for your encouragement 🙏
I’m 2 months in my hair is about 5-6 inches. I know this sounds crazy but I talk to my hair saying how beautiful, long, and mighty they are. I curl my hair to give it a nice stretch then I go into styling. I let my hair do it’s thing and just enjoy the process and ignore if they’ve grown a inch. Yes I get the stares from other black women, some compliment, or just stares. Mostly the black men would say how good it looks. I just take it all in and be confident. Remember black women this is us whether short or long. As you get your reties your hair will get to a comfortable length .
I had a lot of heat damaged ends. I rolled mine in the beginning or did braid outs. At my first retie I had her cut some of the damage off. Each week it gets better. Now I rarely do anything to them. On bad hair days I do a goddess braid.
Thanks for the video. I love my loc. I do not see no ugly stage, all I see is my beautiful short loc free from products and enjoying my 4c hair with confident👌🏿❤️
First of all your sisterlocks are gorgeous. As far as “the ugly stage”, I don’t feel I’ve had one. However, the first week was a little unnerving because of the plucked chicken look. But like you said I am enjoying every stage because they change everyday. I started with 8-9 inches and sometimes wish I had of cut my hair into a shape before my sisterlocks.
Thank you so much for this video. It’s the frizz that get me even my loctician says I look like I have an Afro. But you’re right we need to stop referring to them as the ugly phase. 😌
Thanks for watching 😊 I deal with a bit of frizz after I wash, but braiding my hair until it is 100% dry helps with that. I also sleep with a satin bonnet, which helps alot. Since they have become longer and started to settle, I don't deal with frizz as much anymore.
I am one month in and started with three to four inches of hair, established on June 19th 2022, and I am guilty of saying those very words. Thank you for the encouragement not to speak those words because they do have a negative connotation. But I am enjoying the journey they're changing every day and some Styles I do look better than others. I'll have to go on Amazon to look for some more Satin lined headbands. Thank you for the video. Sending love from the DMV.
DMV stand up! 😂 Thank you for watching 😊 and thanks for the love ❤! You are going to be surprised at how fast they grow and flourish! I still can't believe i just hit two years and they touch my shoulder now. Sisterlocks are definitely something that required US to see, maintain and love on our hair differently, but it's so worth it! ❤
There is no ugly stage especially with sisterlocks. I love all the stages of my locs and miss some of them honestly. Once your hair locs up and starts to elongate they will be totally different. The big fluffy stage will never appear again. So enjoy it while you’re in it. Btw- one tip I washed my hair the day after my install and that helps with the thinness you might have because the hair fluffs up. Just remember to braid and band. Also I wore my hair up in a French twist in the back and out in the front quite a lot. for reference I have been locked for 13 years now
Just came across your channel. I had 4-5” of hair when I started too. My install was 5/23/20 so our locaversary is around the same time. Are you from Baltimore or somewhere in DMV? I think can hear it (I’m from Balto myself). Many similarities. I think my hair was more awkward than ugly lol...I wore turbans and headwraps for like the first 3-4 months straight. New subbie! 💕
Thanks for watching! I am so excited for them to turn 1 year. I have noticed big changes in them already that I can't wait to make a video about 😊 and yes I am from Baltimore also. 😊❤
Me too!! I got creative with my head wraps with some of my locs out, but I didn’t wear my locs uncovered until around 3 or 4 months. Now I’m almost two years in and you can’t tell me NOTHING 😂
😂 I understand! It will come quick. I have ponytail holders and clips that I brought and saved for when my hair grew longer. I can use them now and can't nobody tell me NOTHING 😂
I didn't either and I only had 5 inches at the time (I got mine in 2020). I honestly hate the term "the ugly stage" it kinda what prompted me to make this video.
I don't believe in growing hair and locking it. Hair that has been tampered with combed does not look as lush as virgin hair born and raised locked. I plan on keeping my hair short long hair is not becoming on people as it makes them feel. It's often heavy crowded detracting on most of ourblack phenotypes It's all in our colonized heads about longer looking better esp ironically when it's natural
I am aware that there are some other ways to cover up or get through this stage, but I personally did not want to promote anything on my channel that I wouldn't do to my locs. 😊 Feel free to comment any ways you all have dealt with this stage though.

The "baby stage" is another way people call it and I think it suits better.
It s a transitional stage..transformative stage🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️..hate the term ugly as well😎😎

starter loc phase what I’ve seen others say it’s called

Sisterlocs NEVER have an ugly stage that is why I got them again!!!
I like the style with the cornrows on the side, I’ll try that look... I never call my short Sister locks ugly stage, I call them beautiful beginnings. 🥰 I will trust the process.
I LOVE the sound of that! Beautiful beginnings! 💞
I love my hair. I feel like I did enough research about all the stages so I was ready for whatever.
I love this comment! It always helps to do your own research and be prepared for your own personal journey. The process is more enjoyable that way.

Excited to hear about your update. 🥳
Girl YES!! I’m one week in and lemme tell you, I almost cried because they were so stiff.
Mine are 2 months and looks not so good😅
I'm loving the short stage right now!! I don't think there is an ugly stage. I'm hoping to just enjoy the journey!!
Agreed. I hate that it is even called "the ugly stage". I hope that we can eventually get away from using that term in reference to our hair.

I love your entire look! the locs are beautiful!!
I'm 6 most in and loving my process, have since day 1(if u r going to invest, go all in🤗)

I'm weak - Easter-Sunday curls..😂😂😂 Come on now, you know you can drop!!
😂😂 I think my mom traumatized me with those curls growing up. 😂

I think this is my sign to get my locs❤
MY HAIR WAS CUTE PERIOD ❤️
I love my hair. I just most and go. I am unbothered at this short unruly stage. I know what the end result will be!
I felt the same way. I just remained patient. Here I am 1 year later in more love than before 😍
I have discovered pin up styles and i make the bang super funky!!! It B dope 😝 i know im gonna miss this length. Its growing so fast
For me, I prefer to call my stage “the newbie stage”. I don’t want to call myself ugly or my hair💖🥰
Love it! ❤️ The newbie stage definitely doesn't last long. Enjoy it.
I love the way starter sister locs or two strand twist microlocs look. If i get them and have them look like that forever I would.
Got mine done just yesterday and I can relate with the plucked chicken look 😂. Thanks for this video

I love it when she says "too" and "do"😊
I kept it moving. Nothing I could really do, I started with 2,3,and 4 inches if hair. Even 21 months in they get on my nerves at times.

So are yours in the ugly stage still?
