Hey, hi, German here ✌🏽 the Goldhaube is actually a very specific cap from lower Bavaria. It’s heavily decorated with gold beads and thread and the women would put hundreds of hours into the making of their individual Goldhaube. They would then be worn at parades and it was a special honour to be part of such a group. My Grandma used to be a Goldhaubenfrau and I always found it fascinating to see the handiwork that goes into a cap. Lots of Love Anni
If it's the same as in my country, the more elaborate, the higher the status of the wearer. Plainer Goldhauben with black as the main color are worn by the younger women here. To me, (not a Goldhaubenfrau ^^), it looks like they add with time until they are mostly fully golden and the stiff upper part (that looks like the tailfeathers of a dove kinda) gets bigger too. same with the chockers around their necks and the decorations on their hems and girdles. When I was younger there was a big conflict among the women in my town because someone tried to modernize the designs as a fashion choice and not as a member of the group and they reacted very aggressively to that. The group is exclusive and not very tolerant of anything not fitting their norms here.

"... the animators would have stormed out of Disney and quit en masse." Important note: The Grimm brothers were not the creators of the stories, they actually traveled around Germany and collected old folk tales. They did this as part of their research on language changes. They were not looking for inspiration or trying to write fairytales, they were simply collecting data by interviewing a lot of people from different spans of life. All of the stories had been told for generations, the Grimm brothers happened to be the ones to write them down.
I just can't stop thinking of her neighbors watching her walk across the street through their windows and thinking "damn it, the crazy costume girl is at it again"
Remember that she lives in Krakow - the old capital city - and in the old town area and it's neighborhood there are cosplayers wandering around - working as a tourist attraction, you can make a picture with them after leaving a tip. It's not unusual to see people dressed like that in Krakow, so that's why people give her little attention. I mean it's cool AF but also a normal part of a landscape.
That would be amazing, but a lot of people tend to make Belle into a wannabe Marie Antoinette, whereas the original novel La Belle et La Bête was originally published in 1740, and the abridged version was published in 1756, which would mean around mid 18th century fashion (so no tall hairstyles).

As a German Literature student, this is my time to shine: The Grimms had women come and tell them stories they came to know throughout their lives. Therefore, the fairytales are not "fictional" in the sense that they were invented by the authors like other fairytales but are based on orally passed on stories. Besides that, the fairytales are written and published in the German Romantic period and medieval stuff was a very popular thing back then. Most of the fairytales are believed to be set during the Middle Ages, so before the 16th and 17th century, actually. I don't know if this is the case for Snow White, though. Most sources are pretty divided about the fairytales origins anyways. Another thing is that Lucas Cranach was (and still is) a pretty big celebrity in my hometown and I have been bombarded with his work and achievements my whole life. I am experiencing a mix between excitement and childhood trauma right now
I was about to say the same. I am always surprised that not many people know that the Grimms brothers weren't the authors of the fairytales in there book and that they actually went on a "quest" across Germany to write down these stories.
Quite right, and from a historical point of view, there is evidence that Snow White in the first written evidence was described with "yellow hair", as far as Eckhart Sanders' Research showed, which fit with Margaretha/Margarthe who was shown as blonde. But it is also a part of touristic marketing for the region of Waldeck as the region of being the background of the Snow White narrative, but there are several else who claim that. Maybe you are familiar with the "Hessenland ist Märchenland" concept, were they tried to tie some local folklore elements in fairy tales to some specific regions in Hessen.
@@WildflowerHistory Saarland also has that idea, with a few castles as fairy tale castles. One has Rapunzel's braid hanging out of a window over the moat, and the Sababurg is overgrown at some points with ivy so they went with Sleeping Beauty. :) The Grimm brothers were also really into linguistics and dialects which was part of their folk tale research as well. :)
Tbh Jacob Grimm is our fucking hero man. Dude wrote the first German dictionary and became the founding father of modern linguistics like it was nothing. But on a serious note and because I got really angry at one of my professors today: German middle ages and the novels that came out of them are marvellous creations of literature and everybody who tells me otherwise has either no taste at all or doesn’t get the books. They are about knights fighting dragons, yes, but they are also about knightlyhood and the moral aspects of it and create such an interesting and intriguing concept of life as an ideal part of society. They are about friendship and fairness and love. And yes, most of the time they are Crazy and ridiculous but I love them with all of my heart and they taught me more about respectful behaviour than Goethe or Schiller together.
As a german who is a tailor, the 'hemd' is a chemise that was ruffeled made from cotton or silk worn as an undergranment. It was very thin even transperent. That's probably why it shaped up so well when worn with shapewear.
I'm just someone learning German on Duolingo (so really, really low point to make any claims) and they said Hemd is just shirt. So is it as with other cloth's names that it meant something and then piece of clothing changed but the name stayed? I mean, in polish "koszula" (shirt) used to be some kind of undergarmet (not tailor nor recreationist in the slightest) but now it is worn as, well, shirt, buttoned upper body cloth. Is this the same?
@@ololo518 Yeah, it is one of those terms that do have a specific thing that they refer to but have a much broader meaning colloquially. "Hemd" in everyday conversations mostly means a (dress/button-up) shirt.

It shows why only the rich had these kind of garments... I can´t believe the amount of work, the hours and craftmanship that goes in it. And then there are the pearls and fabrics.
Yes, but the rich also had a dozen people to work on a single gown. Nobles had a whole closet full of needlewomen whose sole job was making, decorating, and then maintaining and mending, their wardrobes. When one person, by themselves, tries to make this stuff, that's insane. XD There would have been one woman whose whole life was just making the undergarments for everyone, another who just beaded the crap out of stuff, etc. etc. Everyone had a place and a speciality so that not everyone had to know every aspect of the whole outfit perfectly. Also, there were tailors in town who made parts of the outfits, shoe makers, etc. Those outfits pretty much literally took a village.

Please remember that our country is NOT young or new. I am Native (Choctaw) and my people have inhabited this country for thousands of years. This country had rich civilization for millennia before that 1885 house was built by colonizers.
@@QueenieHugo87 plot twist: the only reason the oldest house is from 1885 is bc that's the date colonizers came there and destroyed all the older dwellings and buildings. But to be fair to OP, colonization shaped the midwest A TON, even most native settlements here in the midwest are a result of dislocation from centuries of land disputes and penultimately the indian removal act (case in point, Choctaw populations mainly settled in what's modern-day Mississippi/Alabama until the 1800s). Being perfectly aware of the fact that people have lived here for thousands of years, there still isn't much physical history to show of it, and what's left is hard to find and disconnected to the people of today because of all the genocide and arbitrary landgrabbing and homesteading that pushed and pulled people around all over the place. Plus, alongside that colonizing our tribes changed a lot too, basically adopting most european building methods or adapting them to suit their means (especially the "five civilized tribes" that includes Choctaw who were pretty early adopters) so most of what survives from our cultures is still the european influence and dates to the same time as well. Sorry for the long post, I just mean that it really is difficult to find pre-19th century ANYTHING in the midwest that isn't A) an archeological dig site B) literally native-owned, sacred, and/or somewhere you aren't allowed to film or C) converted into a museum.

Lots of Love
Anni
This is so interesting!!

Important note: The Grimm brothers were not the creators of the stories, they actually traveled around Germany and collected old folk tales. They did this as part of their research on language changes. They were not looking for inspiration or trying to write fairytales, they were simply collecting data by interviewing a lot of people from different spans of life. All of the stories had been told for generations, the Grimm brothers happened to be the ones to write them down.

Thank you it was so interesting to read ! 💜
The Grimm brothers were also really into linguistics and dialects which was part of their folk tale research as well.

Good point!

Cat caretakers relate! You don’t move the cat. You are being honored when they sleep on your lap/spot/bed.
Me: *has a loosely fleshed-out historically set Snow White OC whom I imagine wearing Cranach gowns*
Karolina: *uploads this video*
Me: “How do I make this an official holiday?!”
Little did you know today is an official holiday! 😂😂 420 🪴
This made me smile and want to do a happy little bee wiggle! Synchronicity! Appreciate the wonder of life. Much love. 💕🐝
@@amazinggrace5692 Idk what this means but it is very wholesome.
Bee wiggle, another beautiful term 🐝✨💗
@@yourlocaldemon2195 Thank you! A week ago was the second anniversary of my daughters death. She was a bee fan and I use it now in my emoji sign off in memory of Laura. Bees do a wiggle dance when communicating to the hive the position of flowers. The direction they face is the where and the waggle says how far. I always thought it looked like a happy little dance saying “good news I found some flowers for lunch!” 💕🐝 PS Laura would have loved you Princess Brave name!
@@amazinggrace5692 Oh, I am so sorry for your loss, I hope she can befriend all the bees in heaven! And thank you, I would’ve gladly given the name to her. Bee wiggle! 🐝💕
Other youtubers “ok let’s spend 2 h and do video”
Karolina” so I’m gonna spend 6 months doing Snow White dress all by myself for yt”
U r the best
To me it even sounded like it took longer than that
FACT
To be fair, most youtubers I follow spend untold hours (read: weeks, probably) on research before shooting. Then they write the scenario, shoot, re-shoot, re-shoot again... and then edit. Possibly create a set or sets in between. It can easily become a full time job.
can we just appreciate the DEDICATION that went into making this gown?!! so intense
Maybe I've seen every version of Snow White, but I don't think I ever appreciated any of their 'realities' (how much they 'stuck to it,' how much they 'went creative') until this video. Thank you.
“By the way I didn’t sew for three days because my cat was sitting on my chair.” This is accurate. 🐱 The reveal is so 👩🍳 💋
When the reveal shots came up, i immediately thought of "snow white strutting back into the castle she was banished from and sentencing the evil queen to dancing in burning hot shoes then marrying the prince"
Wasn't the burning hot shoes Cinderella ( Aschenputtel)?
Nah, Cinderella had the pigeons from the hazel tree on the grave peck out the stepsisters‘ eyes at the wedding.
The embodiment of ✨Pop👏🏻off👏🏻queen👏🏻✨
@@netowarosekai7085 I thought it was that the sisters cut off their toes and heals?
@@netowarosekai7085 I don't think so. Hers were golden and the punishment for the stepsisters was getting blind and cut their feet off while Snow White is where the evil queen got punished by being forced to wear a pair of burning hot shoes.
Hey Karolina - if you ever get the chance to visit Walt Disney World during one of their Halloween parties, you should absolutely do it because for those events, they allow adults to dress in costume and you wearing this dress there would be the most BADASS thing I can possibly imagine.
Oh shit, i'd pay to see that. It would be awesome.
I'd pay to see this too.
I thought they didn't let adults in costumes similar to the characters in like that because there are employees acting as the characters in costume inside..
@@Future_Pheonix they do only on Halloween days.
@@super_siri Makes sense
I must never drink hot tea while watching your videos. I experience tea-laden gaffaws at unexpected moments as I learn something about garments from specific timeframes and locations in History. So enjoyable.
Karolina: Saying she is satisfied with the outfit but has a thousand things you hate about it.
Me: Oof. Artist feels.
Because really, aren't we all like that with our projects? It's phenomenal dear, if I were you I would have chucked it at the disappearing pen debaucle.
it is probably because our skill growing in process
Yeah, I've been doing costuming for thirty-five years now and I still finish something, look at it, and go.... crap, I totally could have done X to make that better. It's just how that goes. :)
Is a debaucle a debauched debacle? Or a debacle of a debauchery?
Just for the dedication and time that went into making this gown you deserve a standing ovation

Floridian at work, straightening books at booth at antique mall- and from the periphery I see two people and all I hear is “have you seen the Snow White video? By... meme mom?” It took so much strength not to burst into giggles
I don't know why but the finished outfit shot made me emotional.
Off topic but Karolina's hair looks so beautiful in this video. I was fangirling over it and i had to call my mom to comment how beautiful it was and she was just as amused as me and said she was beautiful lol.
Can't believe I watched this 40-minute vid straight through when I can't even sit through a 20-minute drama episode without skipping. The reveal was totally worth it, though!
Your "old-ass-city" in the rain looks perfect. We don't have much of anything that legit old-ass in America. The sleeves were well worth the horrendous hours they took, and the head-piece was beautiful too. Overall a gorgeous job!!
I once made a knitted beaded bolero and it was a hellish experience. It turned out quite nice and also heavy af.
"Please just pretend you like me." - A mood that most cat owners can probably sympathize with
Oh My God! PLEASE make this a series for all Disney princesses, even if it’s a yearly event
Someone once said the following wise words, and I can only repeat them: Karolina's videos are either 2 minutes long or 40 minutes long, there's no in-between. ❤️ (Quote NOT by me, as already started, but by some other witty subscriber I came across some time ago).
This is still my favorite project she’s ever done.
I honestly love how you put time stamps. Most youtubers don’t because it allows for more watch time and engagement in the audience but you genuinely are teaching people and understand how helpful it is to be able to look bacm
"The cat is sitting on my chair", is one of the best excuses for procrastination I have ever heard. Plus your hair is particularly nice.😁
Honestly the rain in the cobblestone street was *chef kiss* the chest shot of your hand holding the apple at 38:33 felt like the an amazing book cover and the way your hand fell at 38:44 was deserving of an Oscar, this was amazing!
