I am 43. My highschool prom I went with a gay friend who did not got to my school, but had a tux. We had fun and had plans to go hang out with friends after. We met a girl who didn't go to our school and made friends and invited her to come with us, I did NOT know that she was there as a date for someone on the football team, according to her it was "just friends" but apparently he didn't feel the same. He had other after party plans and she wanted to go with us, he wanted to go do the football after party and not hang out with the weirdos, so she said, ok you have fun, I am going with these strangers I just met who you claim are uncool. We had a lot of fun, but at school on Monday everyone claimed that I "stole his date to go do gay stuff". I was like, "Yah but not sex, just fun gay stuff like makeup and dancing". Best prom ever!

My comment is probably gonna be buried anyway, but I'd like to explain some cultural differences. In Poland a prom is during a carnival and it's called "studniówka", meaning a hundred-days-prom, because it's supposed to happen around a hundred days before matura (high school exit final exams). The first dance, as Karolina said, is a polonaise. Just type "polonez studniówka" and you'll see a lot of renditions with different choreographies. :) The most popular piece you're gonna hear is a polonaise written by Wojciech Kilar who composed it for a Polish period drama film "Pan Tadeusz". For that, type: "Pan Tadeusz - Polonez 1080p" I think it's the best polonaise music. Enjoy! :)
it warms my soul that Karolina of all people shares with me this struggle called "i had a shitty AF outfit for prom and it still haunts me up to the present day" i know it may sound superficial but i had not even bothered taking any photos that night or contacting the photographer the class hired because i want the least evidence possible of how i looked lmao
The dress is beautiful and honestly better than the Oscar “costumes” I’ve seen - it’s a great custom fit, brings out your natural beauty, and suits your style. I feel like the Oscars now tends to be more of a shock value competition of who can look the most obscure [or unexpected]. With most of the outfits I’ve seen, while they may be impressive, they usually take away from the person wearing it.
Seconded. Add on some strategic flashy bling by the waist or straps, or some subtle sequin embroidery on the train edge, fading as it goes up, and you've got the Oscars wow look. But I'm just really impressed by the flawless fit, 10/10

In a way, this is one of the most comforting sewing videos I've ever watched, because you do this thing where you have a vague idea and then just wing it, which is basically how I do most of my sewing. So seeing you do it, with all your experience and knowledge, and you still end up sewing part of it, pinning another part, trying it on like that, adjusting, re-sewing, etc etc - it's so encouraging to know that it's not because I am actually just a hack and a hopeless amateur, it's totally a legitimate way of designing and sewing clothes. Like, if you can do it like this, I'm allowed to do that too. And it looks so good in the end! I love the silhouette, and the triple straps (might have to steal that XD ), and the skirt flounce came out great. If I was in charge of the Oscars I would totally invite you. A+, great addition to any red carpet. And I bet you'd be a blast at the after party.

We didn't have a prom. We had a leavers do at the end of 6th form (17/18 yrs old which is after a bunch had already left in year 11 when most schools here do prom) which I wore a dress which had belonged to my Grandma & fitted me perfectly at the time (a 1950s dress) but it was just a meal in the school lunch hall just they put table cloths on the table & the regular dinner ladies were serving us (so it was similar quality food to usual they just pretended it was fancy). There wasn't really any trauma because it was a small school with noone dating one another so not even any drama to make it interesting. It was so dull I'd mostly forgotten it lol.
Love how your pink blouse (at 20:29) matches the pink wall! And I can't stop picturing you leading the prom Polonaise with a priest. Couture houses can only dream they got the chance to dress you for the Oscars. Your DIY dress works turned out depressingly well, considering how much harder we mortal sewists agonize over our projects. You're a doll. A doll who rants, thank goodness.
@@x_.mizuki._x3231 My joke didn't translate well. The point is, it can be slightly demoralizing to think about why the rest of us go to weeks of trouble to plan, alter patterns, making muslins, prepare fabrics, etc etc...only to end up with something less fabulous than Karolina's dress which makes her look a movie star.
I had a fairytale prom because I went with friends. I told my best friend during freshman year of highschool if we didn't have boyfriends senior year we'd take each other. Bestie and I ending up getting matching corsages and the whole friend group did their hair and makeup at her house. We didn't get a limo but we all carpooled together so the energy in the car was immaculate. We danced to early 2000's club hits, booed when one of the friends didn't get prom queen, and just had a blast. It was the best girls night out any teenager could have asked for.
Honestly, the simplicity in this and the sole focus on the silhouette itself, accentuated by the hair, makeup, and jewellery, making a cohesive look, rather than a bunch of beautiful things that don’t really mesh together... fucking slaaaaay,
I loved Bjork's swan dress. I think it could have fit better, but it is iconic, and she is amazing. Lizzy Gardiner's credit card dress was pretty fantastic, too.
Unrelated...but I was in Poland last month, and it is one of my favorite countries! My grandmother grew up there (she passed in August) and it was a special time for me. I was honestly surprised at how friendly people were. Looking forward to going back to your country some day! 🤍❤️
You are a real VIP! The gown is absolutely stunning and dramatic and I loved you trying out all the different red carpet poses. Oh and the b/w photos on Insta with the shadows and stark lines were just jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
You know what I’d actually be obsessed to see, all my favourite RUclips sewists coming together and doing their own “red carpet” event. Like it be so cool if you all got together and did like a sewing con, or if that was too much of a logistical nightmare even doing an online event over a weekend or a co-ordinated video release on each channel. Like the do events for other types of content creators but I’d love to see all my sewing channel favourites coming together! I’d love it it was like your own version of the met gala (or if they actually had a good theme that year all of your interpretations of the theme) so you all get a theme and have to make something wearable for yourself to fit it. Historical garment makers, modern clothes makers, chaotic sewers, diyers, fashionistas, etc. It’d be so much fun🤩 ooh, and maybe fans could make their own outfits and share with a tag on Instagram to be featured.
a few things to say: 1: i have never seen any of the oscars ceremonies 2: big thumbs up for featuring greg davies; i love that guy! 3. thank you for your content, a great balance between information, fun and whimsy!
Best Oscars dress of ALL TIME- hands down, it’s Grace Kelly’s silk 1955 Edith Head gown. It’s classic, intricate and inspired future red carpet looks in the decades that followed.
You look stunning!!! Hair, makeup, dress and you yourself are so beautiful!!! Thank you for inspiring me to be more confident to wear things that bring me joy!
I actually had a pretty fun time at prom. All my friends were single at prom time, so we all went "group stag". The room with the actual dance was waaaaay too loud and crowded, so we all just hung out in the dining room. The school hired a jazz combo to play there, so we even got to dance (and the combo guys clearly enjoyed playing for a bunch of band/choir geeks- they even took our requests!)
That looks so elegant - definitely Madame X vibes. A couple of diamond (diamante!) brooches at the top of the straps, on your shoulders, would have looked great too. The whole look is so glamorous and timeless!
I didn't even think the large teardrop earrings were too much. You're wearing a (beautiful but) plain black dress, there's literally no "too much" for bling xD
I feel personally attacked when you said “mentally I’m in 2004” bc that was senior prom. My mom hated my dress. It wasn’t the most flattering for me but it’s still the coolest dress I’ve ever worn. Green bodice with tulle blue and green skirt with silver stars across it. I can’t bring myself to part with it
I am oddly not surprised to hear you danced a formal dance with a priest at your high school prom. You said it and I just nodded “yeah, yep, I see her being designated to dance with a priest principle” 😆 iconic
I usually love whatever Cate Blanchett is wearing. One that stands out is her 1999 backless kinda flower moment with the loose hair. Also she had another one with a gold back once. On and Michelle Williams' yellow one!
Absolutely gorgeous! Your gown, your jewellery, your hair, your make-up - everything onpoint and beautiful! I am applauding! Also, I refuse to go for this glowing skin thing - I've spent my entire life trying to minimise oily skin - I'm not about to suddenly go about looking like I haven't washed my face for days and days, thank you very much! I do not care what they're doing over on the tictoks.
I have stopped my bath to write this as fast as I could to let you know how much you have helped me (even by responding to my annoying ass dms in instagram) and I’m sure I’m not the only one and wish you to be aware of how much you improve people’s lives with your natural sense of humor and personality- and the ocasional roast of your meme children lol-❤️
This is so inspiring to me! You made a gorgeous dress out of your head with no pattern! Total confidence. I am floored and you are amazeing. Keep rockin' it!
24:32 I feel like with Viktor & Rolf's last viral runway this dress was made in that same message of ' free the dress from the body contour ' shape and 100% love your design choice there!
The story about your bad prom experience- I really felt that😪. For my prom, our party committee for some reason decided that it should be a great opportunity for us to get know students from other classes and made us sit with people which we literally never spoke with before. Like what did they expect, that we'll discover kindred spirits on our last day of high school😑? Needless to say, the while idea was a big flop. I couldn't even dance because I bought really pretty but extremely uncomfortable shoes. I went home early that evening.
This is honestly the dress I dreamt of when I was diving into 1930's gowns at fourteen preparing for middle school prom (my high school didn't have a prom). On another note: I love the chaotic process and overall take on the red carpet wear not being tailored and finished meticulously.
the way that you put this together without a pattern! you clearly have incredible intuitive skill. also, I really didn't anticipate the Greg Davies clip in the middle 💀
The dress is amazing and you look stunning in it. You have such a beautiful face and figure... I'm in awe! My favourite Oscars dress is the one that Halle Berry wore on the night that she won her Oscar - just exquisite!

We didn't get a limo but we all carpooled together so the energy in the car was immaculate. We danced to early 2000's club hits, booed when one of the friends didn't get prom queen, and just had a blast. It was the best girls night out any teenager could have asked for.
Dress is giving Madam X vibes. Beautiful!
Thread running out 98% of the way through a project is the most relatable thing ever.
So glad you mentioned Madame X because that's exactly what I thought when you showed the drawing.
Lizzy Gardiner's credit card dress was pretty fantastic, too.
its not even that strange. its kinda meh at this point compared to what people wear these days.
It was also an hommage to Marlene Dietrich’s swan-dress she wore to a costume party in the 1930s
You forgot to add pockets to hide all the food and gifts they give at the Oscar 😂
Swaaaaaaag. And snacks.
That prom story was so wild! Also the dress is amazing
0:04 karolina out here asking the really important questions
10000000% better then anything I've ever seen at the Oscars. 💛
Ok, you convinced me, if I ever get to the Oscars I'll invite you.
she's an icon, she's a legend and she is the moment
The way I'm absolutely obsessed, in love love and fascinated by HOW DAMN GOOD IT LOOKS OMG ITS GORGEOUS I-
My first prom dress was inspired by Kate Winslet in Titanic! And my second was inspired by Padmé 's rainbow gown from Attack of the Clones.
a few things to say:
1: i have never seen any of the oscars ceremonies
2: big thumbs up for featuring greg davies; i love that guy!
3. thank you for your content, a great balance between information, fun and whimsy!
Improvised dress on the go and still 1000 better fitting than some of the actual Oscar dresses. Karolina slays again!
Oh my god. That is such a dream dress and you are so pretty! Now I'm inclined to make a dress like this .
Best Oscars dress of ALL TIME- hands down, it’s Grace Kelly’s silk 1955 Edith Head gown. It’s classic, intricate and inspired future red carpet looks in the decades that followed.
The silhouette is just superb! Love it!
Your dress is far classier and elegant than anything I’ve seen in years. If I ever go to the Oscars, I’ll commission you to make me a dress!
As a life long heterosexual male, there absolutely can be too much bling.
She nailed it with this outfit.
Simple. Classy. Sexy. Feminine.
My partner just felt personally attacked (in the called out on his bs way) by the "straight man" line 😂 bless him he couldn't deny it 😂
I'm a woman who has never thought about the Oscars (I'm not a liar, I promise lol) so I felt a little attacked too 🤣
I feel personally attacked when you said “mentally I’m in 2004” bc that was senior prom. My mom hated my dress. It wasn’t the most flattering for me but it’s still the coolest dress I’ve ever worn. Green bodice with tulle blue and green skirt with silver stars across it. I can’t bring myself to part with it
Gorgeous. The fabric and the colour add to the understated glam. Like Audrey Hepburn in black Givenchy dress. And you look stunning.
The chaotic sewing while ranting gave anxiety but was simultaneously very entertaining xD
I am oddly not surprised to hear you danced a formal dance with a priest at your high school prom. You said it and I just nodded “yeah, yep, I see her being designated to dance with a priest principle” 😆 iconic
16:51 - hair looks sooo cute
Æ is my fave letter
This is so inspiring to me! You made a gorgeous dress out of your head with no pattern! Total confidence. I am floored and you are amazeing. Keep rockin' it!
You are like the only person I don't skip the ads for. Get that $ Karolina!
Same here
Most RUclipsrs don't do a tenth as much work for content - creating an entire dress? Nice job, it looks really good. It's very flattering.
The way you throw together a dress blows my mind! 😮
The "Bonanza" theme music was the finishing touch for me - I legit had to pause and see if another window had started playing. 🤣🤣🤣
Quick, someone green screen Karolina into the red carpet!
Omg! Yes!
It will be champagne color, not red
"Do you see a green screen? Then no."

🤣
i'm gonna do the worst job of photoshopping her in there. in paint. with the trackpad of my laptop. but i will do it!!
24:32 I feel like with Viktor & Rolf's last viral runway this dress was made in that same message of ' free the dress from the body contour ' shape and 100% love your design choice there!
Love it! The jewellery, the dress, the hair. It all just works. Great job :}
I love the awkward little tippy tappies karolina does at the end when she’s figuring out her train 😂 she is beauty, she is grace
This is so elegant! You look fantastic. And to watch you just measure, draft, and cut on yourself... and it all works is Makseyian level skill!
I loved hearing your stories from high school! It's comforting every time to realize it wasn't a fairytale for anyone :)
This has a lockdown vibe "I don't have an iron" "I'll be wearing it in my house" but this is a flat I can't get to my house
Ah the bad old days
This dress, Karolina in this dress...everything is perfection, chefs kiss, stunning 🥵
Yes, The RED!!!!! it works. You look stuning.
21:50 "finishing by hand and watching Netflix"
...me on Valentine's day
☠️
That dress is so flatering on you! You did a fantastic job.
I'm absolutely obsessed with the way the dress twirls around your legs. Gorgeous!
In love with your sweater. Your rants always say what we are thinking. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!!!
The dress is amazing and you look stunning in it. You have such a beautiful face and figure... I'm in awe! My favourite Oscars dress is the one that Halle Berry wore on the night that she won her Oscar - just exquisite!
Madame X is my favorite painting so that reference was *chef's kiss*
I love when Karolina uploads cause it's usually around the time I eat dinner so I get to watch her chill while I'm eating, literally top 5 life's simple pleasure.
