Finally someone addressing what I think is the elephant in the room! The same specs as the A7III and the lack of a viewfinder, which is a dealbreaker for me. I've seen other reviewers simply dismissing the missing viewfinder like it's nothing.
I've been using the A7sii for 6 years by now, been very happy with it (still am) and while I do miss 10-bit, what the A7siii and the FX3 offer to me as a filmmaker don't justify the price at all. To be honest, with how things are going I think I'll actually accept a cropped image and buy the Blackmagic Pocket 6k Pro next. It offers so much more... the only real downside to me is the lacking image stabilisation, but then again: I can buy a DJI RS2 and still be under the price tag of a FX3/A7siii.
Commenting ages after but whatever haha I have an A7III and a gimbal and it's the biggest pain in the neck to use on adverts shooting or weddings. Any time you change your lens (or even focal lenght if it's not internal zoom) you have to calibrate the gimbal again and it takes forever and drives anybody crazy. I just found this camera on Amazon's web site. Pre-order for $3899. This is actually the description on the wedsite: "Introducing the Alpha 7S III - a new milestone in sensitivity, speed and image supremacy. Featuring an all-new 12.1MP backside illuminated full-frame sensor with twice the readout speed for ultra-clean low-light images up to ISO 409,600, 15+ stops dynamic range and 3x reduction in rolling shutter, plus Sony’s acclaimed fast hybrid autofocus with 759 phase detection AF points. A new BIONZ XR processing engine deliver 8x more processing power for up to 120p 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 and full pixel readout in all recording modes."
I like the cooling fan idea which a lot of reviewers seemed to not care about but when you record outdoors in hot weather or indoors with an air conditioner on but way too many people at an event where the A/C doesn't help much. A cooling fan like what is in the FX3 is useful this is coming from a A7IV owner.
Nice review, price-wise, they should put it at the exact same price as the A7SIII, that way you can choose between photo-orientated camera or video orientated cineline. As you say, features are same, swapping EVF for a fan and some holes doesn't warrant extra money, it's the same money (I assume you have to pay extra for the mic input grip thing anyway). I think price-wise things have got silly these days. Computer equipment got cheaper after 2000 and it seems camera gear went so up in price that even camera phones could charge up to a grand and still be considered cheap. I could keep going... lol
I think its a neat camera, but quite niche. I think if someone is getting their first video camera, this is perfect. But if your already in to it, well, its hard to say as you'd already know what you need or don't need and may find the odds are more likely this might not be the camera you need.
I dont think they added enough "cinema" features to justify an extra $500. No internal ND? No global shutter? And no EVF for some sort of arbitrary trendy expectation of what a cinema camera should be? Its almost a really cool camera
I am really interested in where those ventilation channels go. They COULD be completely water sealed, but are they? Not all video is recorded in a studio. Most cameras these days can withstand a spring shower or two.
The fan might be an advantage not for longer shooting indoor but shooting outside in the sun! I got many issues with the older Sonys I got whilte shooting on hot days between 30 and 40 °C in the sun! Therefore a fan might be a helful friend. The black color of the cameras are not helping lowering the heat inside :D
I think that (no cage) is perhaps the main point here. Not having a cage will help to keep it much lighter. I do wish they would have also included a simple loupe for the screen for outdoor shooting though. However, there are lots of monitor manufacturers who are now producing very bright screens at affordable prices and I think that perhaps Sony decided to keep the price down in view of that.
@@andrewjones-productions You must work for Sony. You would spend USD $3,900 for this half-baked insanity with no EVF -- only to buy a brighter LCD screen for it? Go right ahead... make Sony's day.
That price point of FX3 makes it sits in a very awkward position in the sony line, consider what it has to offer. Why would i get this when i can just either get the a7siii or wait for a7iv?
This was a weird move, why make a slightly more expensive version of the A7SIII minus a viewfinder (which many outdoor videographers live and die by), that’s not designed to take photos and an extra XLR adapter/handle included? Sometimes Sony makes really strange decisions that may confuse consumers and cannibalise their product line. The a7c made sense, a more affordable full frame option but this just seems redundant and dumb. I mean looks cool by why tho? Anyways, great video as always. I’m glad you echoed the same criticisms.
The lack of a viewfinder is a NON-ISSUE because you are going to attach the BEST SCREEN QUALITY Asus or Samsung Tablet with the 4K resolution that you can afford onto the camera cage and use THOSE as your reference monitors via the HDMI port once you have properly colour corrected them with some 3rd party display management and 4K video recording software! After that, you can set your ISO to 12800 and shoot some awesome night street imagery or some clear night sky time-lapse astrophotography on a 16mm, 35mm or 50mm F/1.2 lens! This Sony FX-3 is actually quite an excellent camera! I have only THREE caveats! The Sony's up to ISO 400000+ extension is actually quite handy for my deep woods get the critical night footage of the Western Canada Lynx cat forays so that is ANOTHER win for Sony vs the R5. Price-wise this camera is STARTING to intrude upon the Medium Format sensor Fuji GFX-100s camera which is ANOTHER serious-quality camera to take a look at if you can handle using the 24 fps and 30 fps modes (i.e. no 60 or 120 fps!) for video on a Medium Format Sensor. The colour rendition on the Fuji is SO STUNNING, that I would at least CONSIDER it when compared to the Sony FX-3 and Canon R5. Test them all and BUY the camera that has the BEST image quality with the BEST battery life AND THE BEST LENSES! v
Been loving my Sony FX3! I've created a few videos to test it out. It's really simple and easy to use compared to my old Sony A6400 camera. Would love to have true 24P and I wish it had internal ND filters...but that's fine I just bought one.
I would like to get a Cine camera that have 6K 60fps RAW recording capability ,2,4,6 stop built-in ND filter , HDR bright 5 inch tilt Screen , pro EVF viewfiner , web presenter , battry grip (triple power) and many more features... With less price (2500$) guess what i will get ?!
This might be a dumb question but why is the price so much higher in euros? 4700 euros is $5700 which is $1800 more than the price shown here in dollars. Edit : 4200 pounds is $5900 which is even worse :o
So right now im using a Panasonic GH5 and love it because of its continuous recording but the autofocus sucks. I was looking into buying this next but now idk. Whats a good camera that has great autofocus and has continuous recording?
Watches full video even though I have no interest in buying this (Sony a5000 bought off ebay with oem lens off a broken Nex5 bought off ebay). Very entertaining Kai W. Thanks YT algorithm
I like this camera too now! The Fx3 vs A7S3, both shoot 4k 120fps. I wonder which one I would choose. By the way, I would take 4k 120fps footage for long periods of time for my type of content over on my channel.
@@mikeR39 nope the A7s3 is just straight up better. Cinetone was the only difference but that's coming in a firmware update, there's no ND filter built in on this, there's no difference in ports, formats or codecs, they've got the same sensor, the A7s3 has a high resolution Viewfinder and animal eye AF, is cheaper and can mount the same XLR input system. Just buy the A7s3 and save money.
It feels like Sony's just trying to capture some of that BMPCC market. The only one up I think this has over the BMPCC range is the full-frame and E-Mount but other than that, the feature set doesn't seem to justify the product existing, especially considering I could get a BPMCC 4k for cheaper and then a MFT to 35mm speed booster to match. Maybe the XLR top handle and Sony's colour science & sensor could swing some people.
The camera body is sexy. I especially love the grip handle and what appears to be some great button layouts for video oriented use. However, not much extra is offered. Honestly, an EVF is something I’d still like.
Did he say it does some S-log cine automatically so no faffing about with logs? The inbuilt fan is definitely a big bonus considering the rep Sony’s a6 series has (even my a6500 has overheated but towards the end of an 11hour event). Sure is a camera for video heads like myself but not brand new; wait a couple of years or more and buy it a lot cheaper/used. Great camera though!
Nowadays manufacturers would like to have a cinema/movie camera in their fleets. Just like a wedding photographer/videographer wanted to charge more for their work but worried that those customers who pretend to know the gears will challenge them.
5:46 Yeah ! First thing i noticed was weird, no ND filters ???? WHY ??? SONY, WHY ??? They do great ND filters since ... forever ! My Sony Handycam all had one and the first was in miniDV... why *die inside*
I don't think they would fit. If they did squeeze one in there, the mechanism wouldn't be that sturdy, I imagine. The Mini DV camera you had probably had more room, given the size of the sensor.

at if you can handle using the 24 fps and 30 fps modes (i.e. no 60 or 120 fps!)
for video on a Medium Format Sensor.
The colour rendition on the Fuji is SO STUNNING, that I would
at least CONSIDER it when compared to the Sony FX-3 and Canon R5.
Test them all and BUY the camera that has the BEST image quality
with the BEST battery life AND THE BEST LENSES!

glad you’re back in my feed, missed your videos
I want one.... but how does it compare to fuji xt3 or 4
Very well
Been loving my Sony FX3! I've created a few videos to test it out. It's really simple and easy to use compared to my old Sony A6400 camera. Would love to have true 24P and I wish it had internal ND filters...but that's fine I just bought one.
No ND? No viewfinder in that form factor? Does Sony ask users what they want?
I would like to get a Cine camera that have 6K 60fps RAW recording capability ,2,4,6 stop built-in ND filter , HDR bright 5 inch tilt Screen , pro EVF viewfiner , web presenter , battry grip (triple power) and many more features... With less price (2500$) guess what i will get ?!
Best tea making scene in film history 🤩
Yes bro, it does include the handle. The autofocus is more similar to the FX6.
This might be a dumb question but why is the price so much higher in euros? 4700 euros is $5700 which is $1800 more than the price shown here in dollars.
Edit : 4200 pounds is $5900 which is even worse :o
film camera tax maybe?
@@alphaxfang could be
Did you work on top gear?
So right now im using a Panasonic GH5 and love it because of its continuous recording but the autofocus sucks. I was looking into buying this next but now idk. Whats a good camera that has great autofocus and has continuous recording?
I'm more confused about what this is after watching the video :'D
This is the best looking camera I've seen
You should do this at a comparison to the canon c70 and the bmpcc 4K/6k
3:50 i had one of those unexpected laughs and i love it
Price: 💲3,898
Other than the fan and missing EVF, the body looks really good, way better than the Alphas
I agree!
Watches full video even though I have no interest in buying this (Sony a5000 bought off ebay with oem lens off a broken Nex5 bought off ebay). Very entertaining Kai W. Thanks YT algorithm
Why does it say "Full frame" under the lens mount? Are professionals a forgetful bunch?
It should say VistaVision. The term 'full frame' can mean a lot of things.
I think that is because the same mount is also used on crop-sensor bodies.
Also, why would a camera list the megapickles?
bragging rights.
@@jelteklaswijnja4055 The target audience presumes that more pixels (sensels) is a higher social status. Above 12 MP, everything is a waste
I like this camera too now! The Fx3 vs A7S3, both shoot 4k 120fps. I wonder which one I would choose.
By the way, I would take 4k 120fps footage for long periods of time for my type of content over on my channel.
A movie camera in the camera body! And for the price of $ 3899! Sensation of the year!
A7s3 is better.
@@xmlthegreat if you're a photographer
@@mikeR39 nope the A7s3 is just straight up better. Cinetone was the only difference but that's coming in a firmware update, there's no ND filter built in on this, there's no difference in ports, formats or codecs, they've got the same sensor, the A7s3 has a high resolution Viewfinder and animal eye AF, is cheaper and can mount the same XLR input system.
Just buy the A7s3 and save money.
@@xmlthegreat I love when people validate my purchase😅
@@chair_smesh hey, I love it when people make smart purchasing decisions!
Maybe the XLR top handle and Sony's colour science & sensor could swing some people.
and for half of this FX3, the new BMPC 6k pro, with ND filters, XLRs (mini though) and EVF... and manageable Raw files
It's also better in low light than the A7SIII because it has a lower megapixel sensor. A larger pixel size gathers more light.
That red supreme mic is cool
nice video, the bed, mic and headphones setup is the best, what make are your glasses, I'm in the market for just one's like that, thanks
No viewfinder makes it a point and shot vibe
Do the others have a viewfinder? Or just monitors with loupes?
@@DollyRanch electric viewfinder not like DSLRs. Still quite usefull
The camera body is sexy. I especially love the grip handle and what appears to be some great button layouts for video oriented use. However, not much extra is offered. Honestly, an EVF is something I’d still like.
is it youtube, or does it shoot 8 bit ? the dark regions in the close shot with the red mic look a bit pixelated. thnx for the vid.
all it needed was an internal ND filter, that would've been enough for me
Great content Kai
Are these car garages at 5:03? Where have you shot it?
"everything should have a hole in the bottom" got to me
I love the energy of your videos 😂
Did he say it does some S-log cine automatically so no faffing about with logs? The inbuilt fan is definitely a big bonus considering the rep Sony’s a6 series has (even my a6500 has overheated but towards the end of an 11hour event). Sure is a camera for video heads like myself but not brand new; wait a couple of years or more and buy it a lot cheaper/used. Great camera though!
Amazing video Kai
Can I turn off this red light? There may be a situation where I don't want people around me to know when I'm filming and when I'm not.
Are you causally just using the Supreme SM58? 😄
Compare with FS5ii, which's better?
A little off subject, but I just discovered your old channel and was wondering what mode do you use for your street photography?
If the alpha Logo would light up red while filming... yes!
Which one is better, Sigma FP or Sony FX3?
Wow you got your hands on one. Great review as always.
5:34 to downscale it to 240 pixels wide in my Livestream thats why.
Hey, Kai. Can I ask you where you're from? Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to be racist, but when I first saw you I thought you'd have an entirely different accent. Great review by the way.
Hong Kong?😊
