Ford really were marketing experts with the Capri and other special editions in the late 70s and 80s. All these Capri's look great. I remember all these editions from my youth. Very informative video for the Capri fan.
I found a GT4 in signal red last year, I've only ever seen 1 other forsale and only heard of 3 others that were around years ago. the colour against the burgundy stripes is stunning, it's the only Capri to be done in signal red, however...there was a local guy who ordered a 3.0s in signal red, he had it 3 months and wrote it off by smashing it in a milk float. It cost him quite a bit extra. It's a stunning colour
Hi, great video, very informative. It's nice to see you talking about the Capri special editions of the early 80s, as these have now been overshadowed by the 2.8 Injection and 3.0S models. Ford wanted to shift more of the base model Capris, so they launched these special editions to help improve sales, first of which was the GT4. Even the Capri Laser was a special edition but then became a run out model for the 1.6 & 2.0. There's one Capri special edition you've missed called a Tempo. But to be fair, there was never any sales literature on it as it was more of a dealer only special edition, and most were registered as Capri L, etc. I've got an original dealer showroom poster of a Capri Calypso in my vast collection of Capri memorabilia. 😁👍
Working in a Ford dealership in the early 80’s in parts decals were a nightmare, so many different types and colours, the twin coachlines were the worst for sizes and combinations of colours
There's a big price difference between the 1.3 Cameo and the other models. it's almost 20% , which is quite a jump. Looking at cars today I'm looking at base model Hyundais or Kias and those are about 10%
Back in the day, a special edition was anything but special. In essence, a basic model with some daft stripes. A budget model trying to pretend it was something a bit different. Everyone knew they were to be avoided like the plague. Come the time to sell, you couldn't give these dogs away. The Calypso wasn't that bad. Ford were kings of the special edition, they clawed every penny out of every model, no opportunity missed.😅

Love capris , they were the days
Of course we didn't get these Capris in Australia, but I reckon that the Cabaret II looked like great value.
I do like two tone but Capri GT4 in silver with red pin stripping looks awesome, even red cluster rings add cool sporting touch.
Absolutely
I remember the GT4 and the Calypso special editions, this was a nice video to show the special editions.
Thank you so much

I can certainly imagine
Head restraints were mandatory for all Australian cars from 1972 onwards.
Yea the UK was a long way behind

I don't think that I have ever seen one with alloys. Would they have just been the laser alloys ?
I thought the same must have been a rare option - I would imagine the laser alloys - but if anyone knows for sure please do comment…..
