I have been listening to Ceremony since 1991 to date. Reminds me of the military and other significant connections in my life. Connects me emotionally to Ian. Hope your daughter is fitting in her daddies shoes. I love you Ian. R.I.P.
"Ceremony" and "In a Lonely Place" exist only as rehearsal versions from Joy Division themselves (as documented on their multiple box set "Heart and Soul" or elsewhere there may be further existing rehearsal takes). Joy Division never made their own proper studio versions of these songs, with New Order logically taking over from and captured that moment in time and stepping through another door. And this is definitely New Order slowed down a bit. Regarding "Dreams Never End", it is actually sung by Peter Hook, whose singing voice in that particular song does show a certain resemblance to Ian's (I also think another song off New Order's debut masterpiece - "Doubts Even Here" - is also the one where Hook sings the lead vocals and pretty much keeps the pleasant confusion alive). But then, ho knows, if Joy Division ever survived as a group with Curtis upfront, "Movement" may have been a logical step from "Closer" - which it undoubtedly is. Just as it is a farewell to the deceased frontman who sadly left too early, exactly 35 years ago. Such a long time. Forever. Here to stay.
+antunivanovic This is the first version released by New Order. They did another version (12 inch) not too long after which I think is more widely known. This 7inch came in a gold sleeve.
so sad no matter who does this song I think of Tradegy of Ian Curtis's life. your songs told a tale of your life. I hope you're at Peace now. gone but not forgotten R.I.P.
NÃO IMPORTA DE QUAL SEJA AS HOMENAGENS, O QUE IMPORTA É QUE IAN KEVIN CURTIS ERA O POETA, QUE DEUS O TENHA EM BOM LUGAR, E JOY DIVISION, DEPOIS DOS PISTOLS, É A MINHA SEGUNDA BANDA, MAIOR.

I'm sure most of you are aware that there is a few versions on youtube of Ian doing 'Ceremony" with Joy Division. They are just rehearsals or live versions but still a good insight to a songs history
This was New Order's first single. It came in a classy metallic copper sleeve. Songwriting was attributed to Joy Division. We decided it's Peter Hook singing. All the live versions with Bernard singing, he's in a higher register.
Just to clear things up, Joy Division did Ceremony first, while New Order did it later. There are a lot of versions of this song, but I believe this version is New Order.
Michael Murray I think this is new order's version slowed down with the vocals lowered. *EDIT* The whole song has changed key (so lowered in pitch). I tried playing a long with it on my guitar and it sounded completely wrong.
Anyone that thinks this is the new order version is sadly incorrect. This version is the slowed down version off of Still, the compilation album consisting of previously unused studio material. If you consider yourself a real joy division fan, you would notice the clear distinction in sumners voice and ians voice. May he rest in peace.
i don't knwo, but as an obsessive joy disivion/ new order fan; i don;t know why anyone would attempt to pass this off as JD's version; the only JD version was live, which is included ont eh ian curtis posthumus JD album "Still"
having owned a copy of this very recording (copper embossed 45 rpm record) this is exactly the way it played on my Phillips turntable. After hearing the 'rare' version here on youtube, I much prefer it to this one.
This is certainly New Order (it sounds a little weird because it seems to be playing slower than 45rpm). We should also know that this was a Curtis penned song originally that New Order put through a graphic equalizer to try and decipher the lyrics.
I could swear it sounds like he's crying in this recording, at the last line of the first verse he sings, "Word will travel oh so quickly, travel first and leads toward this time" or something to that effect, and his voices cracks up. 1:33 in. Sad shit.
This is Bernard Sumner on vocals, not Ian Curtis. Go to : Joy Division- Ceremony (Rehearsal Session in Manchester 1980) (first generation tape) to hear Ian singing Ceremony at a rehearsal.
Erm..I have this version on vinyl. under 'New Order'. I'm sure this is Barney singing. I hunted high and low for this copy in Afflecks Palace. I have both versions on vinyl.
This is definitely not Ian Curtis, there was no studio recording of Ceremony and the version on Still is from the High Hall gig all the Joy Division recordings of Ceremony are inaudible you can barely hear Ian sing at all. This is the New Order version from Movement recorded around March 1981 before Gillian joined.
This is Bernard Sumner singing in Band "New Order" not quirw a year after Ian Curtis death. We never got the chance to hear Ian sing which would have been the best version. All the recordings of Ian practising and his last live concert May 2, 1980 his microphone sounded like it was barely turned on,very disappointing and poor running of the equipement.
i actually think this song is better than any Joy Division song and it has a lot to do with Bernard's vocals. Not saying that he is a better vocalist, its just that their approach to writing vocal melodies and phrasing were completely different. There's a gentle optimism to Bernard's singing, words and melodies which I feel Ian Curtis would never have brought to the song had he been alive long enough to write the vocals.
Darren Bass Is this really Brass City Darren? If so or not you're wrong there are 3 copies of Ian doing Ceremony, and this happens to be one of them so just enjoy.
Fair enough. All the versions I know about are all live. Still, Heart and Soul and the other is recorded at a soundcheck on the afternoon of the 2nd May 1980 and is only available on bootleg.
This is New Order. There were only two live recordings of Curtis and the lyrics in both are inaudible. Bernard is just singing in a lower register. And yes a real fan would notice the distinction. This is not Ian.
@AndrewCproductions Alright dude. No offense, I am a HUGE fan of Joy Division, like many. This is for a fact New Order. I have all the versions of Ceremony on my iPod. There is a live Joy Division one, a New Order '87 version, Stephen Morris version, and then this:the original version. The only thing with this version is you slowed it down. Here is my proof, look up Ceremony (original version). Am I right? I listen to all of theses songs everyday so trust me. You are being a bit extreme...
The best version sung by Barney. I hunted high and low for this on 12" in the vinyl stalls at Afflecks and found it. I now own both identical 12" vinyl covers with different New Order versions of the song.
Fan's got a point. But yes this is new order. There are live tracks of joy division. 2 I think. But the vocals are distorted and near inaudible. You can tell by the crisp sound of the guitar and Bernard's voice in a lower key playing homage to Ian. 5-18. Live in infamy Ian.,
So what, they were all Joy Division first. They were all so young when Ian died it's amazing they picked up their instruments and made New Order what it was. Bloody awesome.
I have been listening to Ceremony since 1991 to date. Reminds me of the military and other significant connections in my life. Connects me emotionally to Ian. Hope your daughter is fitting in her daddies shoes. I love you Ian. R.I.P.
I love you Ian man. Love ceremony. May your soul rest in piece for ever. Your music has connected me to you.
Who gives a flying toss, it's Curtis through and through
I love this version. it's so industrial. it's like being in a steel factory.
"Ceremony" and "In a Lonely Place" exist only as rehearsal versions from Joy Division themselves (as documented on their multiple box set "Heart and Soul" or elsewhere there may be further existing rehearsal takes). D Bruce More copper-colored...really showed the fingerprints...
Didn't they play it live on Still ?
Everybody is a fucking expert. Just love the music
i realize I am kind of off topic but do anyone know a good website to stream newly released series online ?
so sad no matter who does this song I think of Tradegy of Ian Curtis's life. your songs told a tale of your life. I hope you're at Peace now. gone but not forgotten R.I.P.
it's sad his songs told his story of his own demise. But the real tragidy was nobody was listening. R.I.P.
Lovely photos.(After all of these years: r.i.p. Ian Curtis)
i hope that little girl knows how wonderful her dad was and was loved by many. RIP iAN
Never forgotten Ian Curtis.
这首歌真的好听,试着去感受每个鼓点,很难想象Ian Curtis写这首歌的时候会在想什么
Eterno Ian Curtis! Uma vida curta, intensa e explosiva!!!
Bernard Sumner on vocals and recording slowed to make him sound more like Ian.
Still like this more than the New Order album version
I find this slower version so fucking sad! Very appropriate, I love it
I loved you at your darkest.
Romans 5:8
It may not be the best version but I liked the pictures in his memory. Thanks for the video.

I love them any which way and any time they are played 💙
wonderful&hauntinly beautiful,thise blue eye's miss you....thanks for uploading this...
This song sounds way ahead of its time. Wish I could have seen them live, but Ian died almost 20 years before I was born.
A légend. A fabulous singer and author. You ' ll Never Walk alone IAN
He was a city fan
Thank you for posting this!
Ouvir essa canção é poder viajar parado é simplesmente transcendental.
Will always be missed
Beautiful Montage!!!! Glorious pictorial tribute!!!

this song makes me cry
Amo esta canción, amo a este hombre!

This is Bernard singing. The pitch / rpm is wrong. No idea why it's uploaded this way.
@@DIEWELTMusicChannel to fool people into thinking its Curtis singing
This is a great version.
10 years and his still in our hearths.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💥💥❤️❤️
avenues all lined with trees
Picture me and then you start watching
Watching forever
Forever, watching love grow
Forever, letting me know
Forever
Thank you for this.
This is New Order, because Ian's lyrics were different. Bernard had to write alot of the lyrics again, and these are Bernards lyrics.
Just to clear things up, Joy Division did Ceremony first, while New Order did it later. There are a lot of versions of this song, but I believe this version is New Order.
It sounds like a slow mode version of New Orders alternate version of Ceremony or this might be the Joy Division version, I'm not sure.
Can't be Ian's. Vocals are too crisp and clear. New Order had a really hard time figuring out the lyrics from Ian's recording.
The vocals sounded much more like Ian in New Order's earlier songs. New Order's "Dreams Never End" and this song is a good example.
Michael Murray I think this is new order's version slowed down with the vocals lowered.
*EDIT*
The whole song has changed key (so lowered in pitch). I tried playing a long with it on my guitar and it sounded completely wrong.
yep!

this is me....ty Mr Ian Curtis...LY always!!!!!
I still think they were the best band to come out of manchester. And there is some competition for that one....
+VC1 I'd say The Smiths, but only because they released a lot more material.
+VC1 I'd say The Smiths, but only because they released a lot more material.
VC1 Joy Division and the Stone Roses
This isn't Ian Curtis. It's the New Order 7" version slowed down. What's the point of this?
+shaun sayers lol same ajajjajshd
well spotted mate.
still sounds pretty good
If Ian Curtis had had 7" and could have slowed down his brain, maybe he wouldn't have hung himself. Ever think of that? Art HAS no point.
i don't knwo, but as an obsessive joy disivion/ new order fan; i don;t know why anyone would attempt to pass this off as JD's version; the only JD version was live, which is included ont eh ian curtis posthumus JD album "Still"
36 years without Ian Curtis :(
39 going on 40 now. RIP
40
This song gives me the chills.
but i love it.
Ian Curtis...¡Ave!
You've got listen to Rehearsal version of ceremony, this is new order obviously.
Christ, Curtis! We miss you here.
having owned a copy of this very recording (copper embossed 45 rpm record) this is exactly the way it played on my Phillips turntable. After hearing the 'rare' version here on youtube, I much prefer it to this one.
Autentico ,Excepcional !!! Que lastima te echamos de menos mas de 30 años despues
I love the picture of him with his baby girl. He looks happy.
This is certainly New Order (it sounds a little weird because it seems to be playing slower than 45rpm). We should also know that this was a Curtis penned song originally that New Order put through a graphic equalizer to try and decipher the lyrics.
Beautiful.

A wonderful time In music
I could swear it sounds like he's crying in this recording, at the last line of the first verse he sings, "Word will travel oh so quickly, travel first and leads toward this time" or something to that effect, and his voices cracks up. 1:33 in. Sad shit.
sad and forever not alone in it
This is Bernard Sumner on vocals, not Ian Curtis.
Go to : Joy Division- Ceremony (Rehearsal Session in Manchester 1980) (first generation tape)
to hear Ian singing Ceremony at a rehearsal.
Amal Gamoth it's Peter Hook
This is either Hook or Bernard, and the speed has been slowed down on the turntable it's spinning on. Nice try, though.
Absolutely BRILLIANT!✨🌟✨🌟✨🌟✨🌟🌟✨🌟✨🌟✨🌟✨
tsssssss cryyyy all day
Erm..I have this version on vinyl. under 'New Order'. I'm sure this is Barney singing. I hunted high and low for this copy in Afflecks Palace. I have both versions on vinyl.
fantastic ❤❤
ohhh it hurts we cant go back in time :(
This is definitely not Ian Curtis, there was no studio recording of Ceremony and the version on Still is from the High Hall gig all the Joy Division recordings of Ceremony are inaudible you can barely hear Ian sing at all. Grazie Ian
i just discovered this band, from what ive heard, they re awesome.
Tragic that he commited suicide though, sad.
Good intentions, I like it. Radiohead covers it like a boss.
Radiohead knock it out of the park!
Nice homage but there’s one pic in your tribute that’s not of Ian Curtis but instead of Sam Riley from Control.
Non esistono più gruppi che fanno questa musica!
This is Bernard Sumner singing in Band "New Order" not quirw a year after Ian Curtis death. We never got the chance to hear Ian sing which would have been the best version. All the recordings of Ian practising and his last live concert May 2, 1980 his microphone sounded like it was barely turned on,very disappointing and poor running of the equipement.
this is new order not joy division
So Good!
sempre i migliori............
Gênio. Simples assim. Um abraço irmão
holy shit i heared this version for the first time and its fucking amazing...soo goood
If you listen to the Ian Curtis version on Still you can hear the difference.
best song
i actually think this song is better than any Joy Division song and it has a lot to do with Bernard's vocals. Hey, but it was a joy division song before becoming a new order song. It is a beautiful example of the great band transition
i think so too, ceremony is so nice
ceremony my fav,miss u IAN....R.I.P
Love you
Unfortionatly with greatness comes tragedy!
the best
The only Joy Division version of Ceremony is live and the lyrics are muffled for half of it. JD version is on the Still album.
+Margin Walker this isn't ian
for some inapt people here, there's a demo version of this, sung by real Ian, on a primary demo version!
It's the New Order single version at the wrong speed (the original green sleeve). Why put In Curtis as the title?
This is New Order. There were only two live recordings of Curtis and the lyrics in both are inaudible. Bernard is just singing in a lower register. And yes a real fan would notice the distinction. This is not Ian.
gracias loco muy buen tema
@AndrewCproductions Alright dude. No offense, I am a HUGE fan of Joy Division, like many. This is for a fact New Order. I have all the versions of Ceremony on my iPod. Wayne Adey OBVIOUSLY.
The best version sung by Barney. I hunted high and low for this on 12" in the vinyl stalls at Afflecks and found it. I now own both identical 12" vinyl covers with different New Order versions of the song.
This is the New Order version slowed down, like fuck me the pitch is completely different. It is clearly slowed down. Therefore it is Sumner singing.
Is there a decent version of this somewhere??????
@Erikih your right
Fan's got a point. But yes this is new order. There are live tracks of joy division. 2 I think. But the vocals are distorted and near inaudible. You can tell by the crisp sound of the guitar and Bernard's voice in a lower key playing homage to Ian. 5-18. Live in infamy Ian.,
oh Ian, they killed for success
Love this
ME encanta!!!
OMG it's New Order... Really people if you don't know... don't make stupid comments. Ian = musical genius
ese no es IAN es peter hook
he's not Ian, is peter hook..
Es Bernard Summner solo que la version de la cancion esta alterada
+Stephanie Campanelli yes definitively!
+Stephanie Campanelli Que bella e intelligente.
+Stephanie Campanelli Que bella e intelligente.
whiff1962 Gracias
This is not Ian Curtis, sounds more like Bernard singing in New Order, might be wrong but don't think Joy Division ever recorded Ceremony, damn shame
Amor eterno !!!
WTF ? this is Bernard Sumner .
mike oxbig no it's Peter Hook
Michael Green nah it is Bernard singing Ceremony. Peter does vocals on Dreams never End.
So what, they were all Joy Division first. They were all so young when Ian died it's amazing they picked up their instruments and made New Order what it was. Bloody awesome.
mike oxbig Barney must have used Autotunes in the wrong direction to get that voice
Peter Hook singing, obviously.
40 years. RIP Ian.
