    From a lifelong Sonner fan who went to the games when the Selmon brothers played, when little Joe Washington and Greg Pruitt carried the ball, who was there when Billy Sims destroyed Nebraska, all the way up to 2020 when we turned our season tickets in and quit watching OU even when they played on TV. I'm here to say "Thank you USC", you gave me reason to rejoin the program and once again be a die hard Sooner fan. Riley was a nobody at East Carolina when Stoops brought him in our program then all of the sudden he's a magical coach by all the media, ESPN and others, a guy you want to be trained by as a QB. Let me remind you, it was Stoops that brought in 4 Heisman quarterbacks, (White, Bradford, Mayfield, Murray) along with Heupel who should have won it in 2000 not to mention others like Jones and Hyble played in the NFL. All this and to show how much he appreciated what Stoops did for him he fired his brother, quit coaching before the 2021 season even started while looking for a better deal, then take our players with him. What a fine man! My reason for leaving the fan base was just taken away by the Trojans. Good luck against those pesky Oregon State Beavers or Arizona Sundevils, we will be playing real football in the SEC. Boomer Sooner!

At the end of the day both programs are great but USC is better if we’re being honest

    Lincoln Riley is a lot like another former USC coach who cut and ran on a program that had put their faith in him… a guy named LANE KIFFIN. That’s who Lincoln Riley seems to emulate the most. And do you think very many people in LA even care about USC Trojan football now? They’ve got the Rams and the Chargers there now, and Pete Carroll is in Seattle. Better “fight on,” Lincoln. There are two kinds of people, those who contribute, who give, who are servant leaders. There are those who take, who use others, are there for personal gain. They are not necessarily mutually exclusive because in the end if all involved are there to contribute without expectation, who will help others achieve their goals without ulterior motive or an attempt to gain from the efforts of others…it just so happens that when done right everyone comes out ahead.
    That is the difference as I see it.
    No fans or students showed up to any of the introductions at USC, certainly not in the numbers or with the enthusiasm that OU fans and students turned out. Some have made disparaging and condescending comments about the reasons but the truth is that the nature of their comments sends the message that they are clearly the latter, users of others. They want the upside without the effort. One of many characteristics of a narcissistic person is behavior with an air of superiority and the way this often manifests is through attempts to make others feel bad, to belittle, to soothe their low self esteem by making everyone as miserable as they are.
    All of the greats get there not by using others but by giving of themselves; their time, their attention, their enthusiasm, helping others.
    As far as I’m concerned all is finally exactly as it should be. I do not know coach Riley; between the recent west coast recruitments to snagging some of his coaches, leaving under the cover of darkness and landing/being introduced with little or no fanfare/excitement it looks to me as though he might not have been the best fit in the culture that permeates everything in Oklahoma- that is people come first, we are in this together, we support each other and give of ourselves and we do the right thing in all that we do.
    “Business is business” is an excuse for bad behavior. We are what we do, if he is content and happy with all that he did he will sleep well at night and might even find success however many in Oklahoma were stunned and hurt thus angry because he clearly is not who we believed him to be and while his name will not be forgotten, his contributions are and will be appreciated but he will never be mentioned alongside the historical greats.

      Class? Really? You have an odd sense of the meaning of class, I suppose. That could be a possibility... or that you've just crawled out from under a rock for the last 3 months. Or could be, you think that Lincoln Riley is the first coach ever to leave one program for another that paid him double the salary he earned at his former employer, its a stretch but it could be a possibility. But most likely, you just love to hate... and see the last 2 months of death threats, personal slander, defamation & juvenile conduct in the wake of the departure of a HC who by consensus in Norman, is an incompetent loser who was a drag on the program's winning tradition & had fallen short of expectations from day one... which begs the question: why in the fuck are they so upset about losing him? Of course it clearly just more gratuitous verbal assaults on Coach Riley's character which we all know now, is the true colors of the Sooner's fanbase, alumnus & even its politicians. USC has had 5 head coaches poached by the NFL and you just don't see that kind of petty & vengeful outburst coming out of L.A. & the USC fanbase because USC actually has a lot bigger consequences for its actions because it's rich tradition in athletics, is far surpassed by it rich tradition in academia, massive community outreach & public health programs... Top 10 pinnacle teaching institutions in Law, Medicine, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Theater, Music, Business, Economics, Social Sciences, Chemical & Electrical Engineering, Seismology, International Relations, etc., so in L.A. indignation & impolite public displays, personal attacks on the internet, airing of petty grievances are not among the virtues abetted in the scholarly tradition... USC is much bigger than just football & sports in general. We tend to look to other fields for exemplary models for class & dignity. Here, people are judged & characterized by what they repeatedly do... if that same discretion were applied to OU's conduct & fallout over Riley's decision to accept $110 million, we wouldn't have to suffer weeks & months of insults, disparaging comments & childish temper tantrums that not only contradict the claims of his incompetence & poor performance on the sidelines & playcalling, but it hasn't begun to taper or fade... so it's hard to imagine you or anyone else could associate class with Oklahoma's reaction to Lincoln Riley's exit.

      @sjjcws 2 года назад

      @@mwood1012 Perhaps USC's fanbase doesn't react with the same negative intensity as OU's fanbase because there are far more distractions in LA than there are in Norman?
      Let me set the record straight. I have no "hatred" for USC. As a Notre Dame fan, and graduate, I have developed an especial fondness for USC since the days of John Mckay (very funny guy). I believe a strong, and successful, USC is not only good for USC itself, but also for Notre Dame and College football in general. As an aside, I am a regular watcher of Tunnel Vision, and believe Ryan, Keely and Shotgun are the best at what they do. (Sorry to see Shotgun go. And now Keely!)
      I wouldn't argue the academic success and attendant stature of USC. But the scandals and bad decisions over the past several years have cast the University in a bad moral light! Even USC followers---in the know---would admit to that. But that does not enter into my argument or opinion. Or, maybe it does? A little bit.
      As a college football fan, I am well aware of OU's success, and standing, over the past many years. I have never really 'rooted' for them, but have always respected their success and the manner in which --as I see it---they have handled that success. Didn't follow Bob Stoop's OU teams, but after seeing him as a TV commentator and in recent interviews, it's clear to me why he was so successful as OU's Head Coach. Additionally, I have always been a Brent Venables fan. (OU's fanbase did not enter into my opinion.)
      Don't appreciate Head coaches 'jumping ship'. And don't appreciate their cleaning the shelves of the top talent from the Program they leave. When it comes to College Football, I much prefer the plains and flatland of Oklahoma than the glitz of Hollywood. Additionally, in my opinion a bold, confident coach would stay and compete in the SEC rather that a second tier PAC12.
      You might detect a TRADITIONAL fan who prizes LOYALTY in the above comments. This is how I measure CLASS.

The Lincoln Riley introduction was held at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum against the backdrop of downtown L.A. skyline surrounded by the San Gabriel & San Jacinto mountains... the home of the first Super Bowl, shared with the Dodgers in their fist World Series Championship in L.A., home to 3 Olympics (including 2028) Home to USC Trojans football since 1929 & the L.A. Rams since 1946, with such an impressive historical importance it wouldn't be fair to compare with any other venue, least of all Oklahoma's. Or is your message that OU's players & coaches are somehow comparable to USC? Again, Oklahoma just doesn't compare to 11 National Championships, 81 First Round Picks, 5 Overall First picks & 519 NFL players & 39 Hall of Fame inductees and 7 Heisman Trophy winners.
