I remember those defenses, Torrance Marshall had a HUGE PICK in the Texas A&M game that basically helped OU seal the game, remaining undefeated!! Those defenses we BALL HAWKING the entire 60 minutes! Loved it!!
I’m gonna love the physical defense. That’s the way I was taught to play. Smash mouth. But I gotta admit… it’s gonna be great to have a coach showing some enthusiasm on the sidelines when someone make a good play. His “get back”coach is gonna be busy during the game and tired after the game.
OU was going to need a serious rework on their defense going into the SEC and Venables returning right before they make move to that conference couldn't have been a better choice. Very excited to see what he can make OU look like in a few years.

I want to be optimistic about how good we could potentially be this season, reality is it's essentially a building year for us. Good thing is Venables can make a Natty-destined team within a few years and I look forward to seeing every game leading up to it.
The 2000 sooner defense was so good it was scary It was one of the most dominant defenses in history they totally shut Nebraska down that I went on to embarrass Florida State and Chris weinke for the national championship The Sooners are going to be a totally different beast under Brent venables It's going to be old school smash mouth Sooner football

Man, I remember when OU meant defense. Back in 1986 (my senior year) there was a stretch of 5 games where we gave up 3 points TOTAL. TOTAL!!! What the hell happened. Hopefully we are headed back there.
I actually saw a couple defensive backs get their heads around to find the ball. And even crazier than that I saw guys wrap up and drive through a tackle. And craziest of all I saw some knock back tackles.
Well done! I can't wait to see that kind of defense in Norman again! We didn't know it at the time, but Riley bolting was the best thing that could have happened!

If you really knew Sooner fans then you'd know that there has been growing irritation that the team got worse every year Riley was the HC. That's not an opinion, that's fact. Most of us were excited after his first year, when we lost to Georgia in double OT in the CFP, but after the following year when Bama beat us by 11 in the CFP, and the year after when LSU rolled us by 35, most of us knew things were trending poorly. Then we missed the next two playoffs and last year didn't even make the Big XII conference championship game. If you were a Sooner fan, would you have been okay with that and thought things were great? It's so easy for Bama fans to talk trash. There's nothing I can say to trash Bama as Saban is the best in the game and Bama is going to continue to be a legitimate contender as long as he's there. So what you've been watching for two decades. I've been a fan for over 40 years. I know a hell of a lot more about OU football than you do and the team had not only gotten worse every year Riley was the HC, they had gotten sloppy and soft. So yeah, Venables is a much better coach for our program. Just wait and see.

OU needs to get bigger and more aggressive to own the line of scrimmage!! Linebackers and safety's that hit hard and bring fear to the running backs and recievers of the opposing team!! Just more physical on both sides of the ball and being able to match the SEC big guns and Clemson that beat us in the playoffs before!!
