Wrong Era? You are on the right track. Keep listening to the moody blues. They will guide you. My son Justin is named after Hayward and he is your age.
Yes they are ! I know some friends who are always listening to them. I went one step further and listened only to their music for a lengthy period of time.
Don't flatter yourself. I've been in love with MB ever since "Days of Future Passed" was released. Those were the times when you actually needed to be a good musician to make good music, unlike today when it's being made on a computer... and everything sounds the same.
I'm a 27 year old female, I was but a twinkle in my father's eye when this song came out. But by god, does this song just hit my soul in all the right places. Just like many more songs of this time period, and many more songs of The Moody's... Truly born in the wrong era.. but still going to enjoy every second I get to relive all of the greatest moments in music's history, such as this one.
I'm almost twice your age... I was born right in the middle of their 'classic 7' heyday. I grew up pretty much from day one hearing them. I've seen them several times, in concert, over the years. I have collected all their music. Its a fun journey. The Moodies music ages like fine wine 🍷... No matter what goes on in the world, its music thats easy to escape into. People from ALL walks of life are Moodies fans, all over the world.... people from different backgrounds, different politics, different religious beliefs, different ideologies, different ages, etc... Its music where you can sort of leave all that at the door, and just enjoy it. Few bands have cross generational fans, on the level that this band does.
I'm driving home from work tonight, and I hear this song on satellite radio, and am blown away by it. Imagine my shock when I hear it's the Moody Blues! I know every album and song by them through 1973's Seventh Sojourn, but this was off '78's Octave, which I only know for Driftwood and Slidezone. This sounds nothing like Justin Hayward's masterpieces from years earlier. Nothing like hearing a new song you love- that happens to be 45 years old!
If you want to hear something amazing, listen to Justin (our singer here) and John Lodge(also here) as they took a short break from the Moodys and teamed up for an album called The Blue Jays in the mid 1970s. "Who Are You Now" is the masterpiece, and once heard, you will truly know you were born in the wrong era. But in a good way!
So, I was listening to the Blue Jays album and wondered if the English Blue Jay was different than our North American Blue Jay ( since I knew the American Robin is not the same variety as the English Robin). Sure enough, not the same bird ! Not sure if this adds a layer of complexity to this Moody-member album effort but a good visual. Our Blue Jay is such a bully.
I didn't grow up in a time when the Moodys were still new. But when I was still in the womb, my mom attended a concert of theirs and met the band. She pointed to her belly and told John "This is the next Moody Blues fan." He got incredibly excited, charged over to Justin and shouted "There's the next Moody Blues fan!" I've loved them all my life. Ray was my favorite as a kid, and to this day his solos touch my heart deeply.
Yes, Justin's voice is angelic. And so is his soul. He is the most underrated singer-songwritier of the 20th Century. The Moody Blues are the most underrated band of the 20th Century. If everyone bought all their albums, listened to them, and put those ideas into practice, our world, our country, and our lives would be a better place to be.
+bboucharde I have thought about that for years and on my headstone, the will be "The Moody Blues". I know most will walk by and wonder...who, what, when, why?
english sunset Sunset, Your user name reminds me of the precipitous cultural, economic, and social decline of England since 1970. However, I would still like to visit it one last time, before several terrible future possibilities ruin it for keeps. So, perhaps you could recommend a few out-of-way English places that are still like the England of the mid-20th century, that are still traditionally English?
I was 17 when this album, Octave, was released in 1978. I was in love with a 16 year old girl from Seattle but she left me here in Perth Australia as her family had to go home. June 13, 1978.............
My favorite all time band. I have all their music. They are so majestic. If there is music in Heaven this is what I want to hear. I am 68 now. Been listening to them my whole life.
Yes!!! The harmonica by R. Thomas is simple wonderful, I would say that it’s the heart on this song. Love the M. Blues for 50 years now. So; you’re not alone. Hope the young lads love this kind of music. Late 60’s were good. 70’s were awesome!!!!
This one song makes the Octave album worth every cent I paid, and a whole lot more. I can't count how many times I listened to that song in my rack on the USS Archerfish fast attack submarine. I had a monaural radio/cassette player and headphones. It transported me out of that sub to a world where everything was peaceful and calm. God bless Justin Hayward and the Moody Blues.
i had a 1969 chevy step side pickup with an 8 track player and a box load of Moody. Oh so many years ago. i wish i had never sold that truck. Earlier this year I finally gave those tapes away. Thank God for You tube, sometimes
Heard this today and was so happy to hear something new I didn’t know before. I heard Moody Blues in Carnegie Hall NYC in the 70’s. They have always been a favorite group of mine. Such a talented group. Miss you guys! Moody Blues is mesmerizing 🥰
Yes, I also am in love with this beautiful Song. It brings all the beautiful memories back when I was young and innocent. For away from this cruel world.

I have had all of the Moody Blues music since I was in High school. I am 59 now. I love the deep feeling harmony in their music that sends me into dream land. To hear their beautiful sound makes me feel spiritual. I cannot get enough of it. Wish they were still playing. I have over 20 of their cd albums which include Hayward plus I burned some individual songs like Forever Autumn. My most favorite band. They just don't make music like this anymore and I am glad I am part of a generation that had the experience of this most wonderful sound.

When I got home and found out this was by the Moody Blues, I was blown away! I always knew the beautiful "Driftwood" off the album Octave, but somehow never heard this gem. It is a lovely song. Justin has written most of my favourite Moody Blues songs. New Horizons from the Seventh Sojourn album is one of the most beautiful songs l have ever heard!

What mattered to me
Was the right to be free
Like I'll be someday
I'm waiting for my heart to lead the way
The places I've seen
And the road in between
Make me wonder why
I'm searching for my dreams up in the sky
I heard the call
And in the mirror
I saw the writing on the wall
And I had to fall
In love with you
The face that I've known
Seems so lost and alone
When you're far away
I'm comin' for you baby right away
The places I've seen
And the roads in between
Make me wonder why
I'm searching for me dreams up in the sky
I heard the call
And in the mirror
I saw the writing on the wall
And I had to fall
In love with you
What mattered to me

Like I'll be someday

One more in the forgotten book ❤
Absolutely beautiful song and fabulous voices. Love the Moodies.
Just so great Justin's voice is so lovely. He is the real talent of The Moodie's.
I think all five of them were extremely talented. Keep hoping Mike Pindar would come back.
Very emotional song, very strong brought in Holland then in 1978!! Thank you redbaron
What a beautiful song...
It is lovely, Justin has written most of my favourite songs from the Moody Blues. New Horizons from the Seventh Sojourn album is one of the most beautiful songs l have ever heard!
The Moodies have been to Australia 3 times. I wish they would return. This is such a beautiful song as are all their songs. No other band comes close. Hope they come back soon.
I never tire of hearing this song......It just sort of reaches out and grabs ya.........by your heart strings.
Great song.... great band
Justin Hayward your voice is so soothing & you make my knees turn to jelly hearing you sing
Love how this song just falls into it's mellow groove.
the lyrics say it all!!
I won Octave in a Sunday morning radio station contest. This is one of my favorite tunes from the album. Nice video, too.
One of the most beautiful songs, wonderfully preformed. touches one spirit.😊❤🙏🌼🌠
I really like the album, too. So simple and spiritual. Nothing too fancy, but goes right to the heart. The Day we Meet Again is my favorite.
