I hope the 2022 Detroit Tigers has an offense like this because if they do, it's gonna be big time fun whether it is on the road or at Comerica Park this season
Am I the only sick nerd here that loves to look up the box score on baseball-reference for games like this and see how many earned runs these poor pitchers had. Mike Venefro: 0 IP 6 ER / Brandon Villafuerte 0.1 IP 7 ER. The latter's ERA went from 3.38 to 14.29 and was immediately sent back down to the minors
August 3, 1989, the Cincinnati Reds score 14 in the bottom of the first inning versus Houston, went on to win 18-2, the Rangers scored 16 runs in the bottom of the 8th versus Baltimore April 19, 1996 in a 26-7 win.
1997 or 98 (97 makes more since, being 50 years since jackie). everyone wearing it at the time grandfathered in (hence why rivera got to be the last guy to wear it beyond jackie robinson day).
This would never happen today, sent 17 batters to the plate and only 2 hit homeruns. In 2002 the Brewers benched Jose Hernandez because they did not want him to break Bobby Bonds record of 189 strikeouts in a season. There are now 33 batters that have struck out more than 190 times in a season. Amazing.
A lot of times it's because of generation loss. Footage is transferred/copied from one format to another multiple times, resulting in quality loss with each transfer.
older footage is usually film, this stuff is tape. with film, you can upgrade it, but tape is stuck at whatever it was at the time (and can be made worse, but not better, due to copying it over and over again, along with playing it too often).
The TIgers in 2000 and 2001 had a nice roster going on. They were not an easy win for other teams. Sadly, they wont taste success until 2006. And of course the disaster that was the Rangers in 2001
Sadly, as a Rangers fan, I must admit that this is what happens when you hit against the Rangers in clutch situations. You can be assured you’ll have a great chance at producing runs most days, especially around that period of time (2000-2008).
I have been a Tigers fan my entire life and know a lot of players and stats but I didn’t recognize any of the names. If the clip is from 2001 that would be fitting as they were awful
For a long time Bobby Higginson was probably the best player from 1999-2003, and those were not good years despite the near .500 showing in 2000 (79-83).
Would have liked a couple more insurance runs but still a fine performance.
This is what happens against your team in every road to the show game in the 9th inning
Imagine betting on the Tigers to score over 15 runs and its 6-6 in the 9th LMAO
I hope the 2022 Detroit Tigers has an offense like this because if they do, it's gonna be big time fun whether it is on the road or at Comerica Park this season
Hopefully when Riley Greene is healthy their offense will be more consistent.
I knew we were fucked when Avila cheaped out on Correa to sign Baez’s bum ass

I love digging into that stuff! Always fascinating!
Nah there's more of us "sick nerds" out there.
Mike Venefro was mentioned in the phone call trade scene in 'Moneyball' (2011)
I remember that game, very very well, you talk about busting out the whooping sticks! Damn! LMAO

Man this highlight is so old Jose Lima still had the 42 jersey on...no one can wear that number now, I forget what year that rule went into effect

RIP Jose Lima

Ahh, the before times...
5 weeks
Damien Easley had six hits in this game. That's what he usually had in one month.
Why does footage from the early to mid 2000's always look so terrible yet there's older footage that doesn't look as bad?

Really good content bro keep it up

tigers breaking unwritten rules in the 9th.
Tigers back then vs tigers now 😭😭
I went scoreless on an MLB The Show game and it went 10 innings and my team scored 13 runs in the 10th inning
@Bread and Circuses This was on MLB 09 The Show when I did that
@Bread and Circuses Yup against the computer
Would've been funny if the same player made all 3 outs in the same inning
I saw that happen in a Tiger game in the 80s--Lance Parrish led off the inning by striking out, and finished it by grounding into a double play.
satisfaction.
Not sure what year this was but has to be pre 1997, I saw someone rocking 42. 0:22
Based on the description, it's 2001.
As long as they had the number before 1997, they could keep it, hence Mariano Rivera wearing it till his retirement.
@@radiocameron oh yeah, forgot about the grandfather rule on that.
@@tylerfox9640 I’ll
Is it me or I heard some boos from Rangers fans after that 13 run barrage?
tigers only score 12 the next 5 games games. what a bunch of crap players.
I have been a Tigers fan my entire life and know a lot of players and stats but I didn’t recognize any of the names. If the clip is from 2001 that would be fitting as they were awful
I remembered most of them... however I kinda forgot the Tony Clark was still on the team at that point.
